Patalliro

The ten-year-old king of Malynera.

• Animal Motifs: Patalliro is associated with three animals: a cat, a cockroach and a monkey. His face resembles a cat's muzzle, he often behaves like a cat (to the point that sometimes he meows), he also interacts with the Super Cat. Patalliro is called a cockroach by other characters, such as Bancoran, for his vitality: despite numerous assassination attempts by the International Diamond Syndicate and other enemies, Patalliro is still alive. In addition, Patalliro uses a fast running technique, which he himself calls "the cockroach running". As for the monkey, it's mostly a joke about Patalliro's ugliness, although sometimes this comparison is used for other purposes, such as references to Journey to the West.
• Big Eater: His breakfast alone could feed a small country.
• Brilliant, but Lazy: He's actually a genius, he just has no motivation to exercise it.
• Cheshire Cat Grin: Patalliro’s default look is a toothless version of this.
• Children Are Innocent: Averted. His Highness is everything but innocent.
• Disappeared Dad: His father dies not long before the series begins, promoting him to king of his country.
• Enfante Terrible: His caretakers and protectors, and enemies, can attest to him being a nightmare to deal with.
• Everyone Has Standards: There are enough moments where he will drop the comedy and act in a serious manner, as seen on the Heartwarming and Tearjerker pages.
• Expressive Hair: His Highness's head occasionally sprouts flowers—usually when he's embarrassed.
• A Father to His Men: As much as he harasses his men, he does look out for them and provides for them when they have trouble.
• The Gadfly: Enjoys poking fun of nearly every single member of the cast.
• Identical Grandson: He is one, and he will have one. Apparently all the kids in his family look the same.
• Jerk With A Heartof Gold: As much as he plays around and bothers people, where his friends are in serious trouble he will go out of his way to take care of them.
• Lovable Sex Maniac: Has a bad habit of groping people no matter their gender (though he mostly goes for guys). He also makes numerous sexual innuendos, taking advantage of the fact that he is only 10.
• Missing Mom: His mother is alive but her poor health makes it so that she can't live in Malynera with her son.
• Obfuscating Stupidity: Plays dumb to avoid responsibility.
• Royal Brat: Is in running for Trope Namer.
• Royals Who Actually Do Something: Despite his infancy and hyperactive nature he gets enough moments to display his competency and responsibility in authority
• Shapeshifter: Though played for laughs, he is able to turn himself into a miniature version of whoever he wishes to imitate.
• Ugly Cute: Just check out pictures of him online. It’s a miracle he gets descendants.

Jack Bancoran

Voiced by: Kazuyuki Sogabe

England’s best secret agent, his mission is to protect Patalliro.

• Affectionate Nickname: Maraich calls him "Ban".
• Badass in a Nice Suit: Usually wears a black suit.
• Berserk Button: He has a particular hatred drugs and drug peddlers.
• In-Universe Nickname: Maraich calls him "Ban".
• Ladykiller in Love: This is mainly a trait of his stage show version, but after a song where he boasted about all the "pretty boys" he's gone though he meets Maraich and falls head over heels in love and, in contrast to his manga counterpart, remains faithful to the younger man.
• Last-Name Basis: Everyone calls him Bancoran.
• Not So Above It All: Eventually is pulled into Patalliro's various hijinks.
• Not So Stoic: Is downright shocked when his past lovers come back to haunt him in Episode 43.
• Only Sane Man: With all the zany hijinks going on around him he has to be this.
• Parental Substitute: Whenever he's not bickering with Patalliro like they're brothers, Bancoran occasionally acts like a father figure to the young king.
• Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Pale, dark-haired, and irresistible.
• Really Gets Around: His list of ex-lovers would take up pages.
• Selective Obliviousness: He often resorts to this to preserve his sanity.
• Smoking Is Cool: Bancoran smokes and uses this to increase his charming appearance.
• Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Bancoran is a tall brunette, with whom young men fall in love at first sight. It was for this that he became known as "Bishōnen killer".
• Tuxedo and Martini: Bancoran is a handsome British super-agent with a long list of love interests.
• Vitriolic Best Buds: Becomes this to Patalliro. The two of them exchange barbs and putdowns back and forth, but will stand by each other in serious crisis.
• What Beautiful Eyes!: Lined with blue mascara, and said to resemble those of a tiger.

Maraich Juschenfe

Voiced by: Toshiko Fujita

An assassin who was sent to kill Bancoran and Patalliro, but ended up falling in love with Bancoran and changed sides.

• Berserk Button: Goes out of his mind with anger when Patalliro calls him Radish.
• Clingy Jealous Girl: Boy, rather, but that’s the only difference. Bancoran fears getting caught cheating on him with good reason.
• Conflicting Loyalty: The first episodes that feature him have him torn between his loyalty the International Diamond Syndicate and his love for Bancoran.
• Darkand Troubled Past: He got orphaned, then tempted into a car by a guy offering candy, who then removed his clothes… and that's before he was trained to be an assassin.
• Fiery Redhead: A temperamental redhead.
• Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Often described as attractive and has hair that goes past his waist.
• Mr. Seahorse. He got pregnant, twice, without explanation. The first time ended up a miscarriage, the other one was a success.
• Parental Substitute: While he bickers a lot with Patalliro, on occasion Maraich acts like a mother to him.
• Professional Killer: Worked an assassin for the International Diamond Syndicate.
• Sex–Face Turn: With Questionable Consent, this is how Maraich joins the party courtesy of Bancoran, as he himself says he "successfully persuaded him◊" to leave The International Diamond Syndicate.
• Took a Level in Badass: Inverted. Maraich becomes decreasingly useful as the series goes on. That said, he's still not someone you want to mess with though. Despite his growing effeminacy and occasional carelessness he still knows how to escape and then mop the floor with any thugs who cross him.
• Wholesome Crossdresser: Maraich always wears high heels and was also voiced by a woman seiyuu. Although the extent to which he can be called "wholesome" is debatable.
