    The Angel (SPOILERS)

Angel/Cherub

As Cherub
"My dear friends... to hear your voices after so long... it is a gift beyond measure."

Little is known about this being, who Doorman and Nin report to. Forge seeks to aid her.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Her objective is to gain the power of a Great Wight, the same as other antagonists, yet Àngel is convinced only she can use it for good, despite there being no obvious proof that she really is different. Made less ambiguous later, when she reveals she's just been stringing Àngel along.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: One of her powers seems to be bringing these to life, which Doorman uses to furnish the Slanted Manse.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She's kind and friendly with Ángel, but once she's alone, Cherub immediately begins insulting him and calling him a pawn.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": Doorman calls her "master", but she says she neither deserves nor desires the title.
  • Fusion Dance: "Angel" is actually a Spectral Fusion between Cherub and Àngel.
  • Light Is Good: According to Doorman. Actually a case of Light Is Not Good as she is a manipulative spirit seeking absolute power for her own purposes.
  • Manipulative Bastard: She seems to have the ability to alter the emotions of people and make them feel calm, which she uses to control Ángel and keep him from questioning her plans, seeing him as nothing other than a lowly pawn.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Her appearance is something of an angelic mix between a spaniel and a Bedsheet Ghost.
  • Our Angels Are Different: Is referred to as an angel by Doorman. How accurate this is remains to be seen, but she at least has ethereal speech bubbles befitting of one. She also apparently has a multitude of feathered wings. She is actually a small doglike spirit with wings.
  • Painting the Medium: Her words are rainbow-colored, and her speech balloons have wings on them.
  • Powers as Programs: Her spirit power lets her accept power from other spirits and then loan it out, with the amount she can accept and share being proportional to their connection to her. Forge, for example, was only able to loan enough of his pyrokinetic powers to heat tea because his loyalty to her was entirely from selfish motivations.
  • Traitor Shot: Once Ángel leaves her alone, Cherub has a sweet expression and recounts how kind he is, only to suddenly switch to a deeply smug grin and reveal she only sees him as a pawn.
  • The Voice: She's talked to Doorman and Nin over the phone, but has not appeared yet, apart from some wings. Chapter 8 finally reveals what she looks like, both as a fusion and as a spirit.

    Doorman

Doorman

"I am always willing to assist... a true agent of justice."

A friendly spirit and mentor/friend of Isaac who is currently hiding out on the outskirts of town. Has some kind of history with Max's spirit and Forge.

    Nin

"Please. I make my own darkness."

A bunny-like spirit and associate of Doorman. Has the power to multiply herself.

    Forge

Forge

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/forge_cast_3799.png

"We burn the present for the sake of a better future and are surprised when all it holds is ash!"

A humanoid poltergeist who resembles a medieval blacksmith with an anvil for a head and an oven for a chest.
  • Ambiguously Evil: He can speak the cursed language, and he certainly isn't adverse to killing, but it's implied he isn't happy about it and doesn't think very much of Spender abandoning his students just to fight him. It's also shown that he was working with some sort of angelic entity.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: To Spender. "What's your excuse?"
  • The Blacksmith: What he is themed after. He's also an actual blacksmith.
  • Black Speech: Knows at least one cursed word. This is a very big deal, as the Cursed language is learned one word at a time, one for every atrocity the spirit commits.
  • Broken Bird: A rare male example. He hints towards some tragedy in his past that turned him from an idealistic "hero" into the bitter and disillusioned warrior he is now.
  • Burning with Anger: Small flames erupt on his head during his argument with Spender after Spender implies that the well-being of his students is secondary to saving Mayview.
Spender: Mayview is my greater good. It's every person I love and have loved plus ten thousand more, and protecting its future is my purpose. Everything else is secondary.
Forge: "Mayview" is on that train right now, fool.
  • Bird People: What he appears to be on observation. Note the way how his armor resembles feathers and how his face appears to be just a beak. Even his feet look like those of a bird. He's likely a pheonix due to his fire powers.
  • Death Seeker: Strongly implied, as he stays and fights Spender despite being told how dangerous he is and gets angry when he thinks Spender isn't as strong as he thought.
  • Demonic Possession: Possesses Johnny to escape death and enter the town.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: His main power appears to be control of metal, as seen when he shapes a long strip of it into a huge axe.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: He points right at the reader at the very end of one page, with the alt text reading: "It's pointing at YOU, reader. They know you're peekin'."
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He's very easy to provoke.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: After Spender defeats him via Portal Cut, his upper half appears as a skeleton while his lower half looks the same.
  • The Juggernaut: Both incredibly tough and single-mindedly devoted to his goals.
  • Knight of Cerebus: His appearance, along with the pixhellhounds, marks when the comic goes from a (mostly) lighthearted comedy to a darker ongoing plot.
  • Meaningful Name: As is common with spirits. Forge is able to reshape metal using his fire powers, and is a master blacksmith.
  • Mind over Matter: Is a strong enough poltergeist to move a giant hammer made of physical matter around.
  • The Needs of the Many: He goes on a rant against this sort of behavior, making it clear he had this mindset in the past.
Forge: We burn the present for the sake of a brighter future and act surprised when all it holds is ash!
  • Not So Stoic: He has his moments in his fight with Spender.
    • He goes from calmly discussing his viewpoint to screaming in Spender's face on how The Needs of the Many mentality is flawed and questioning how neither of them could see that in time.
    • When Spender explains why he stayed behind to fight Forge instead of rescuing his students from the out-of-control Ghost Train, he states that protecting Mayview is his number one priority, prompting Forge to burst into flames and state that "Mayview" is currently on the runaway train.
    • He has a much larger one when Spender has beaten him, proving to not be ready for oblivion.
  • Playing with Fire: He can release fire from parts of his body, such as breathing it or covering his hand in it.
  • Stealth Pun: He's a Bird person with Heart Symbols; a Lovebird.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Has this reaction to Spender abandoning the runaway ghost train to fight him, despite being responsible for said state of affairs.

    Muse
A spirit who betrayed the group to try to seize the wights power for his own. See his folder on the activity club.

    Hiphop and Switchswatch
Flipflop's sworn brothers, they met each other in Baxborough and journeyed together to find the peaceful wight, Polaris. Hiphop is a frog and Switchswatch is a chameleon spirit. After their teacher was captured, they went on to search for him, eventually meeting Doorman in Mayview. They tried to help him free his friends from Francisco Guerra, but they were quickly caught.
  • Uncertain Doom: While Switchswatch was captured alongside Flipflop, Hiphop supposedly managed to get away. Though, Flipflop mentions that Switchswatch could have managed to slip away, saying that she's resourceful.
  • Visual Pun: Hiphop is a frog, an animal that hops around, and he can make music. Switchswatch is a chameleon, a color switching animal and a swatch is a color palette used by visual artists.

    Other spirits
Candlepin, Facade, Quiz knight, and Fearsay were all members of the group before the first three were 'eaten' by the witch and the last defeated by the Activity Club.
