NCIS Field Office, Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam

Field Agents:

Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant

Played By: Vanessa Lachey

  • Action Mom: Jane's a (divorced) single mom of two kids. She also leads the NCIS team in and around Hawaii from Joint-Base Pearl Harbor Hickam.
  • Amicable Exes: With her ex-husband, Daniel. While there is some tension between them over the breakdown of their marriage, the two are still very close friends and make a great team parenting their children together. So close, in fact, that Jane is on the shortlist for babysitting Daniel's newborn son with his new wife, with no hints of any jealousy between the three.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Jane's an American of mixed race. In one episode, her kids asked her if other Americans asked her about where she came from because of her facial features/skin.
  • Fair Cop: She's a pretty NCIS officer. Highlighted in "Gaijin" when she tells Captain Milius that some parts of the public think she may have appointed to be the first female SAC to run the Hawaii office because of possible personal relations from the US Navy's INDOPACOM command due to her pretty face.
  • Hero of Another Story: Jane used to be with the CIA, doing anti-terrorist investigations before joining NCIS.
  • Informed Attribute:
    • The episode "Paniolo" Jane is shown being able to ride horses like a pro.
    • The episode "Spies, Part 2" mentions that Jane can speak Tagalog.note
  • Military Brat: Jane grew up in Japan when she was young since her father was stationed there under US Forces Japan command.note
  • Omniglot: Is known to speak Japanese and Korean aside from English. In the second season, she can speak Spanish.
  • Parents as People: Jane tries to be there for her kids, as well as to have a social life in Honolulu after her divorce. Most of the time, it gets jumbled up due to her NCIS duties. Alex, in "Legacy", does support her having a social life if she wants to see someone outside of work.
  • The Leader: In charge of the Hawaii Field Office's team.

    Special Agent Jesse Boone

Played By: Noah Mills

  • Action Dad: Is married with one daughter and one son. He's also an ex-police officer from Washington DC before he moved with his family to Hawaii.
  • Omniglot: He can speak Italian aside from English in “Run and Gun”.
  • Number Two: In charge of the team whenever Jane's not available.

    Special Agent Lucy Tara

  • Action Girl: Another female in the NCIS Hawaii team who puts up a fight when needed.
  • Old Money: Lucy's family is from an oil family background.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: The shortest member of the team, though this doesn't stop Lucy from taking down suspects both larger and taller than her.
  • Twofer Token Minority: Lucy Tara is a female, person of color (her actress is Emirati-American) who is shown to be very attracted to Kate.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Ironically for a navy cop, Lucy is afraid of water and so has absolutely no interest in swimming or surfing etc despite living in Hawaii.

    Special Agent Kai Holman

Played By: Alex Tarrant

  • Badges and Dog Tags: Formerly with the Marines before his discharge and his recruitment into NCIS.
  • Hero of Another Story: Kai's been deployed on numerous assignments while in the Marines, including his deployment in Japan as hinted in "Gaijin".note
  • Naïve Newcomer: In terms of being recruited into NCIS, he's been assigned recently to work in Hawaii.
  • Token Minority: He's the only NCIS agent in the Pearl Harbor team who's been fully raised in Hawaii (Native Hawaiian) before he joined the Marines.

Support Personnel:

    Ernie Malik

Played By: Jason Antoon

  • Amazon Chaser: Ernie had some female acquaintances in college, and one of them happens to be currently an HPD detective he had feelings for.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Ernie seems a bit socially awkward at first glance, but he's one of the most brilliant anti-cybercrime hackers/engineers.
  • Disappeared Dad: Ernie reveals that his Mom threw out his Dad, a serial cheater, when Ernie was seven. Despite Ernie's Dad living only two miles away, he never visited Ernie and later moved to South Carolina without any contact with his son until his death.
  • Has a Type: Ernie's type of woman he likes is an Action Girl who happens to have Geeky Turn-On qualities. Lucy calls Ernie out for having a certain type after he shows an infatuation with Jessica Knight in the NCIS crossover episode T'N'T.
  • The Smart Guy: In charge of searching the internet far and wide for information the team needs.
  • The Snark Knight: Has a very sarcastic view of some ideas/terms that his teammates use in the field. It's a good thing they put up with him.
Ernie: Luck is a human construct designed to give meaning to random acts of chance and in turn, comfort us in a universe that is inherently chaotic.
  • Voice with an Internet Connection: Ernie relays info to the team from the Pearl Harbor office most of the time.

    Norman "Boom Boom" Gates

A Marine who Jane knows. He works with NCIS, serving as its explosives specialist.

  • The Comically Serious: With Kai, which is later revealed to be both Boom Boom and Bam Bam messing with him.

    Bam Bam

Another NCIS explosives specialist.

United States Indo-Pacific Command

    Captain Joe Milius

Played By: Enver Gjokaj

  • Jurisdiction Friction: If there's anything remotely connected to the Department of the Navy (including the Marine Corps), it's likely that he'll stand his ground and not allow anyone to investigate on grounds of national security.
  • Shout-Out: Daniel refers to Joe, who is played by Enver Gjokaj, as Captain America. Gjokaj previously starred in Marvel Cinematic Universe television series Agent Carter, appearing as Daniel Sousa who in the show worked alongside Peggy Carter, love interest of Captain America.

Federal Bureau of Investigation

    Agent Kate Whistler
  • Action Girl: Initially a Defense Intelligence Agency caseworker, she completes the FBI academy in Virginia and is now a probationary agent. "Stolen Valor" puts her in the field for the first time, and she's able to put up a fight when her cover's blown.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Seen regularly in a suit due to her FBI job and more than able to handle herself with a gun.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Is very uptight in the first episode and seems to be being set up as an officious character who will block the others at work with her dedication to her own job but is quickly revealed as Lucy's love interest and soon significantly defrosts, though not totally.
  • Hidden Depths: Straight-laced uptight Whistler loves to surf and once sang Adele at a work party to win Lucy back.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In the pilot episodes, she rips into Jane for allowing Lucy to read up on unclassified reports from the DIA because it can ruin her chances to getting a good conduct in case she needs to renew her security clearances. Truth in Television since even with the slight mistake that is not your fault, there are chances that the person reviewing your work will potentially put accidental negligence into the review. This can be used against you, depending on how lenient the checks are.

Family

Tennant Family

    Alex Tennant

  • Career-Ending Injury: Alex is set to go to college due to his baseball talents, only to suffer a serious leg injury during a game which permanently halts those plans.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Or what Mommy hates. Alex's season 2 girlfriend, Cassandra, is older (21 while Alex is still in high school) and more relaxed and unconventional compared to Jane. Jane is not happy when Alex chooses to take a gap year instead of going to college, due to Cassandra's influence.

    Julie Tennant

Holman Family

    Wally Holman

  • Greasy Spoon: Runs a local eatery, which features throughout the series.
