"Close your eyes. We'll always be together."
Played By: Mirelly Taylor

"My love. We are already together."

The wife of Richard Alpert.

    Father Suarez

Father Suarez

Played By: Juan Carlos Cantu

"I'm afraid the devil awaits you in hell. May God have mercy on your soul."

A Catholic priest at a prison in Tenerife, Canary Islands.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Suarez seems nice enough, bringing Richard food and getting ready to take his confession. Then he shows his true colours.
  • Corrupt Church: He's as corrupt as they come, taking advantage of his standing in the church and influence on others to make himself some cash in the slave trade.
  • Greed: He condemns prisoners to a lifetime of slavery just for a few pieces of silver.
  • Hate Sink: There is nothing remotely likable about him. He is cruel, smug, condescending, and self-righteous, all of which is thinly masked by an insincere aura of fatherly compassion.
  • Jerkass: He tells Richard in no uncertain terms that he's going to hell no matter what he does and even seems to take pleasure in destroying every shred of hope Richard was clinging onto.
  • Karma Houdini: There's no comeuppance for this asshole, unfortunately.
  • Posthumous Character: He's obviously dead by the time of the series, since he lived more than a century prior to it, although we don't know the circumstances of his death.
  • Sinister Minister: Corrupt, cruel, greedy and willing to lie about Catholic doctrine to fool Richard.
  • Smug Smiler: He can't wipe his big stupid grin off his face as he's condemning Richard.

    Jonas Whitfield

Jonas Whitfield

Played By: Steven Elder

"This man is now the property of Captain Magnus Hanso. Hope you don't get seasick."

An officer on the Black Rock, a ship owned by Magnus Hanso. In 1867, the Black Rock docked in Tenerife, Canary Islands, where Jonas bought a number of men to serve as slaves, among them Ignacio and Ricardo.

  • The Alcoholic: It's pretty clear from his disheveled state that he has a drinking problem. On the commentary for his episode, even the actors and writers point it out.
  • Asshole Victim: It's hard to feel sorry for a slaver who murders his 'property' when the going gets tough.
  • Character Death: The Smoke Monster bursts through the Black Rock, grabs Whitfield, and lifts him off to his certain death.
  • Evil Brit: If being involved in the slade trade wasn't enough, his evil is proven by his murder of the surviving slaves.
  • Jaded Washout: He's a former military officer, but now he's a disheveled, bored-looking man doing grunt work for Magnus Hanso.
  • Jerkass: He treats Richard like any other piece of 'property', showing no sympathy or basic human empathy whatsoever.
  • Posthumous Character: Whitfield is killed hundreds of years before the events of the series start.

    Ignacio

Ignacio

Played By: Izzy Diaz

"I see the devil! The island is guarded by the devil!"

A slave aboard the Black Rock, a ship owned by Magnus Hanso. In 1867 while chained inside the ship, he met and befriended Ricardo, a fellow slave. When the ship was hit by a storm, Ignacio saw land nearby, an Island, and as the ship came closer, he saw an enormous statue and screamed that it was the Devil.
