Heroes of Mimoto City

Jõtaiders

    Mikai Fushimi/Jõtaider Mimoto 

Mikai Fushimi/Jõtaider Mimoto/Dark Dragon

The main protagonist of Jõtaider. A girl who spent the last 10 years trudging through life without emotions. An encounter with Golden Freedom lights a spark that reignites her emotions, but also gives her a Jõtai that becomes a belt that allows her to turn into the heroine Jõtaider Mimoto. Mikai is positivity personified and tries her best so this extends to the people around her, even if it can leave her a bit naive and gullible.
  • Alliterative Name: Dark Dragon
  • An Ice Person: In her Frost Wolf form she utilizes ice powers.
  • Animal Motifs: Each of her forms is based on an animal. Flame Lion is a lion, Frost Wolf is a wolf, Blast Eagle is an eagle, Earth Ursa is a bear.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: “Henshin” to transform, “Chou Henshin” to switch between forms.
  • Emotionless Girl: At the start of the story she has spent most of her life just going through the motions without emotions, because they had been sucked out of her by Cepha ten years prior.
  • Henshin Hero: Uses a special belt to transform into the armored Jõtaider Mimoto while shouting “Henshin”, checking all the boxes.
  • Mythical Motifs: Mikai’s stronger armors are based on mythological creatures. Light Unicorn is a unicorn Dark Dragon is a dragon and Chimera is a chimera.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: at only 140cm she might be easy to underestimate, but she’s a capable fighter as Mimoto.

    Hiro Fukano/Jõtaider PAWN 

Hiro Fukano/Jõtaider PAWN/Jõtaider KING

Atlas Grimwald’s personal secretary, who under his orders also works as the company-sponsored heroine Jõtaider PAWN. Initially she acts hostile towards Mimoto due to the inexperienced heroine reminding her of her own failures, but they quickly grow closer and consider each other partners. She always tries to act serious to hide her dorky hobbies.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Quilin calls her “Hiro-nee” because she was used as basis for her human appearance.
  • Anger Born of Worry: The reason why she’s so hostile towards Mikai in the early chapters. As Mikai reminds her of other girls she led into their doom in the past, she doesn't want to see her meet the same fate and rather wants her to abandon being a hero.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: “JOUCHAKU”
  • Dark and Troubled Past: During the last ten years she was directly involved in the three biggest tragedies that hit Mimoto City, the Luna Descent, the Native Awakening and the Prime Resonance and each took its toll on her.
  • Emotionless Girl: During the Arc 2 climax Quilin permanently suppresses her emotions so she can safely use the KING armor.
  • Emotion Suppression: During the Arc 2 climax Quilin permanently suppresses her emotions so she can use the Jõtaider KING armor without risk of the darkness in her arm affecting her.
  • Chess Motif: Jõtaider PAWN and its various forms are based on chess figures.
  • Henshin Hero: An artificial one sponsored by a big company, but one nonetheless.
  • Not Quite Back to Normal: After absorbing Dazzling Star’s hand to gain some of her powers, her own arm doesn't go back to normal after the fight due to having been infected by the Darkness.

    Saki Himitsu/Jõtaider Kanzei 

Saki Himitsu/Jõtaider Kanzei

The President of the Student Council, and a girl that wants nothing more than to keep her fellow students safe. She and Mikai become fast friends, until she learns of her secret identity. Believing these powers to have fallen into the wrong hands, she joins Golden Freedom and becomes Jõtaider Kanzei, enforcing her own, more extreme version of justice.
  • Animal Motifs: Jõtaider Kanzei takes clear inspiration from the scarab beetle and the jackal.
  • By The Power Of Gray Skull: “Henshin”
  • Dark and Troubled Past: The Luna Descent happened on her birthday and she could only watch her whole family and friends be turned into Lunas and disappear, almost sharing the same fate if Hopper hadn't saved her at the last moment.
  • Face–Heel Turn: She starts out as a friend of Mikai’s, but after learning of her secret identity she ultimately ends up joining Golden Freedom in the belief that she'd make a better hero for the city and ends up clashing with Mikai multiple times.
  • Henshin Hero: She sees herself as one at least and does start to come around later.
  • Morph Weapon: She can reforge her staff into any kind of weapon during fights.
  • Multi-Melee Master: No matter which form her weapon takes, she can properly wield them all.
  • Not Brainwashed: She ends up joining Golden Freedom entirely of her own volition, because they promise her the power to protect those she holds dear.
  • Scarab Power: The Jõtaider Kanzei armor is clearly themed after the scarab beetle and a scarab symbol appears on the Jõtaijin she controls.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Her betrayal of Mikai by revealing her allegiance to Golden Freedom is what starts Mikai’s fall to despair, as engineered by Kimiko.

    Minami Kazumi/Jõtaider Ouroboros 

Minami Kazumi/Jõtaider Ouroboros

A white-haired girl who can often be seen hanging out with the student council. A former test subject of the Prime Resonance, the event left her unable to move her legs. When offered a Jõtai, the Prime Darkness resting within her body took over to claim its powers, turning into the sadistic Jõtaider Ouroboros, a perfect fusion of the powers of Jõtai and Darkness, whose only desire is to devour everything.
  • Animal Motifs: Jõtaider Ouroboros is themed after a snake.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: “Shinka.”
  • Gratuitous German: She likes to use german names for her attacks, like “NACHTGEWEHR”.
  • Having a Blast: Jõtaider Ouroboros’ poison explodes some time after making contact.
  • Symbiotic Possession: While Ouroboros initially only controls her body for its own goal, they quickly strike a deal and form a proper symbiotic relationship. Minami helps it satiate its hunger and she uses its powers to be able to walk and achieve her own goals.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Becoming Jõtaider Ouroboros and attacking Mikai is one of many betrayals that end up furthering Mikai’s fall to despair, as engineered by Kimiko.

    Hayato Koizumi/JõtaiKiller Hayato 

Hayato Koizumi/JõtaiKiller Hayato

A childhood friend of Mikai, who has grown to despise Monsters for what they did to his mother. Alongside Ero he’s one of the JõtaiKillers who use the Hopper technology to remove the Jõtai-factor from Jõtaijin and prefers to wield a pair of chainguns in battle. Due to the tough guy persona he puts on he’s very easily flustered.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: “DESIRE UP!”
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Has a small role in the “Gekijouban” chapters, but isn't introduced into the main story until way into the second arc.
  • Fantastic Racism: He’s grown to despise Monsters and Jõtaijin for turning his mother into a plant monster ten years ago. After meeting Yuuki and the others he’s starting to come around on the Monsters at least.
  • Multi-Ranged Master: The Pride medal allows him to summon many kinds of gunßtype weapons and he can wield them all.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Him deciding to openly go against Mikai and fight her ends up aiding in Mikai’s fall to despair and therefore Kimiko’s plans.

    Ero/JõtaiKiller Ero 

Ero/JõtaiKiller Ero/N-Eroheim

Haruhi’s mechanical daughter, also known as the Hopper System 2nd. She usually wears a mix of goth and ganguro fashion, talks in innuendos and doesn't seem to take things seriously. As one of the JõtaiKillers she gives Hayato access to the Hopper System that allows them to remove the Jõtai-factor from others and use it in battle.

Battle Companions

    Chimera 

Chimera

A being that appears in Mikai’s head as she recovers her emotions and becomes a heroine. Quickly she becomes an older sister-figure and spiritual guide to her host. An apex predator from old times with mysterious origins. She's directly tied to Mikai’s powers and her appearance evolves as Mikai unlocks more abilities.
  • Hybrid Monster: As Mikai unlocks new forms, these are usually reflected by Chimera gaining some of the respective animal’s traits.
  • Mythical Motifs: Very obviously based on the mythological chimera.

    Huanglong 

Huanglong

The onboard AI of the PAWN armor, who supports Hiro during her missions as a Jõtaider. Appearing as a holographic copy of Atlas, he often has to play the voice of reason to the more emotionally-driven Hiro.
  • Benevolent A.I.: Despite being the AI of the PAWN armor, he genuinely looks out for Hiro and make her job easier.
  • The Four Gods: He represents Huanglong, the Yellow Dragon, often appearing as a yellow-colored hologram.

    Ouroboros 

Ouroboros

An artificial Prime Darkness created by Atlas Corp during the Prime Resonance that bonded with Minami. It feels a constant hunger that can only be sated by feeding on the Darkness. When talking to Minami it takes on the appearance of her mother Rena Kazumi.
  • Animal Motifs: Usually takes on the form of a snake.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While initially presented as just a monster born from the Darkness that just wants to feast, with the arrival of the Prime Darknesses its goal quickly align with the other heroes and mellows out a lot during that time.
  • Symbiotic Possession: While Ouroboros initially only controls her body for its own goal, they quickly strike a deal and form a proper symbiotic relationship. Minami helps it satiate its hunger and she uses its powers to be able to walk and achieve her own goals.
  • Trapped in the Host: During the Prime Resonance it bonded with Minami and spend all this time hiding and sleeping inside her body, taking her ability to walk as an unintended consequence.

Mikai’s Closest Friends

    Yumeko Watanabe 

Yumeko Watanabe

A girl from Mikai’s class, who after being saved by Mimoto and learning her real identity, takes an interest in Mikai and becomes her first real friend. She wants nothing more than to see her friends, especially Mikai, smile and tries to help them whenever she can.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Despite her best efforts to prevent their plans, her releasing Spider from confinement ends up being one of the biggest contributions to Mikai’s fall into despair, as engineered by Kimiko.

    Tsubasa Sato 

Tsubasa Sato/True Hero

A boy that figures out Mikai's identity, quickly becoming her friend as he teaches her more and more about the things that interest him, while also letting a few of his more perverse ideas slip by, because Mikai can't really understand them. He develops a crush on Hiro after she saves his life.
  • Badass Bystander: Surprisingly often does he get the chance to actively jump into a fight and help Mikai in some ways.
  • Nerds Are Pervs: He's a stereotypical nerd and the story doesn't hide the fact that some of its villains elicit certain reactions from him. He usually channels his perverted thoughts into his writing.

    Agatha Anemone 

Agatha Anemone/Hana Mizuki

A plus-sized rich heiress attending Mimoto High. She can be very stubborn and has a short temper that often leads to her throwing out her fists. Agatha has a hard time getting over her first bad impression of Mikai, but soon they develop an odd friendship.
  • Alliterative Name: Agatha Anemone.
  • Anger Born of Worry: There are many ways to get her angry and worry about her friends is one of the most consistent ones, particularly when it’s for Alyssa.
  • Badass Bystander: Don't expect her to sit still when a villain attacks. Most likely she's going to fight off minions on her own with her fists.
  • Battle Aura: She gains one as she unlocks her latent magical girl powers.
  • Combat Hand Fan: As Kazutora’s geisha minion Hana-chan she uses those while fighting.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": She doesn't like being referred to by her birth name, Hana Mizuki, particularly if her mother Kazutora is using it.
  • Heroic Lineage: Her mother Minerva is revealed to have been a magical girl fighting the Darkness in the past.
  • Meaningful Rename: At some point in the past she changed her name from Hana Mizuki to Agatha Anemone to show the disdain she feels for her mother Kazutora.

    Yuuki Shimo 

Yuuki Shimo/Passion Punisher

A member of the student council and hall monitor of Mimoto High.. A yuki-onna who despite her cold powers is filled to the brim with infectious PASSION and ready to defend her friends at any time. As the Jõtaijin Passion Punisher her ice powers massively increase to the point she can freeze the hearts of others to permanently keep their hearts full of passion.
  • Alliterative Name: Passion Punisher
  • An Ice Person: As a yuuki-onna she naturally has ice powers.
  • Badass Boast: Gives one in State 27 when showing off her new fire powers against her corrupted friends.
    "Fighting against ol' Genbu... She showed me that I can't just rely on my icy power. But she knew that I had something within me. Something that's much stronger! MY PASSION! AND WITH IT BURNING BRIGHT, YOU'LL HAVE TO FACE THE CHILLING COLD AND THE RED HOT FLAMES! NOW COME ON, TSUBASA! AGATHA! AGATHA'S MOM! LET ME FREEZE YOU SOLID AND BURN YOU FREE FROM THAT BASTARD'S INFLUENCE!"

    Saeko Suikumo 

Saeko Suikumo/General Spider

The youngest member of the student council. A girl with long, purple twintails, who’s always trying her best to help those around her. She's content with being at the side of her fellow student council members.
  • Alliterative Name: Saeko Suikumo
  • Animal Motifs: Spiders. She has spider Monster heritage, her last name contains the japanese word for spider, during the confrontation with Azami she's turned into an arachne and this isn't even going into the fact she's General Spider.
  • Criminal Found Family: She was found and adopted by D’Or and Rose and joined Golden Freedom to repay them for that.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: After she lost her parents during the Luna Descent she was taken in and tested on by Atlas Corp due to showing adaptability to the Darkness. She ran away, which led to Minami participating in the experiment that would later be known as the Prime Resonance, while she herself was found and adopted by D’Or and Rose.
  • Happily Adopted: After losing her parents during the Luna Descent and running away from Atlas Corp she was found and adopted by D’Or and Rose.
  • Meaningful Name: Her last name contains kumo, the japanese word for spider, which hints at her monster heritage.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Her reveal as Spider is one of the first betrayals that start Mikai’s fall into despair and their final confrontation as Spider is what finishes said fall.
  • Walking Spoiler: It’s hard to talk about her without revealing her second identity as General Spider considering Saeko herself doesn't contribute much to the story before this reveal.

    Momiji Atsuhi 

Momiji Atsuhi/Habakiri/Murakumo

A young female student and ignis monster, who hopelessly crushes on Tsubasa, occasionally bordering on stalking. A Jõtai ring turns her into Habakiri, a machine-like being who can turn others into swords to chase her love with.
  • BFS: As the Jõtaijin Habakiri she can not only turn others into big swords, she can turn into an even bigger greatsword herself.
  • Expy: One look at art of her Jõtaijin forms is enough to realize she's based on the Murakumo units from BlazBlue, particularly Nu-13.

Atlas Corp

    Atlas Grimwald 

Atlas Grimwald

The leader of Atlas Corp, the company that controls most of Mimoto City. Despite his small size he always projects an aura of smug superiority. With a will strong enough to have tamed the Saint Beasts he dreams of one day ruling the whole world.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He may be the only character smaller than Mikai herself, but you certainly shouldn't estimate his combat capabilities.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: He doesn't even try to hide how much it irks him to have to work together with Golden Freedom and especially D'Or to fight The Darkness.

    Byakko 

Byakko

One of the Saint Beasts working directly under Atlas Grimwald and formerly known as the White Tiger of the West. The head of the IT Division, she's the youngest and smallest of the Beasts and comes with a short temper that usually needs milk to be quelled.
  • Elite Four: One of the four Saint Beasts serving solely below Atlas himself.
  • The Four Gods: Obviously represents Byakko, the White Tiger of the West.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She may be the youngest and smallest of the Saint Beasts, but she's still a Saint Beast and therefore very powerful.
  • Stock Animal Diet: Of course this cat loves milk.

    Seiryu 

Seiryu

One of the Saint Beasts working directly under Atlas Grimwald and formerly known as the Azure Dragon of the East. The head of the Biotech division and a woman who usually cares more for scientific advancement than ethics, she keeps to herself at most times.
  • Elite Four: One of the four Saint Beasts serving solely below Atlas himself.
  • The Four Gods: Obviously represents Seiryu, the Azure Dragon of the East.

    Genbu 

Genbu

One of the Saint Beasts working directly under Atlas Grimwald and formerly known as the Black Tortoise of the North. The eldest and physically strongest member, she may look old, but is nowhere near as soft as her appearance might suggest. As the head of Construction she often contributes with her own two hands.
  • Elite Four: One of the four Saint Beasts serving solely below Atlas himself.
  • The Four Gods: Obviously represents Genbu, the Black Tortoise of the North.

    Suzaku 

Suzaku

One of the Saint Beasts working directly under Atlas Grimwald and formerly known as the Vermilion Bird of the South. Elegant and beautiful, she has the final say in matters relating to products produced and fashion distributed. She has a mild perfectionist streak that has come to bite her before.
  • Elite Four: One of the four Saint Beasts serving solely below Atlas himself.
  • The Four Gods: Obviously represents Suzaku, the Vermilion Bird of the South.

    Qilin 

Qilin

A high-ranking scientist at Atlas Corp, who works directly with the Saint Beasts on the company’s most important projects, most importantly by developing the PAWN system. She enjoys teasing her coworkers, particularly Hiro.
  • Affectionate Nickname: She calls Hiro “Hiro-nee” because she was used as a basis for her human appearance.
  • The Four Gods: She represents the Qilin that's often depicted alongside the four gods. Fittingly her role in the company is as one of very few outsiders working on the same level as the Saint Beasts.
  • Heel–Face Turn: She’s eventually revealed to have been one of the Lunas attacking during the Luna Descent (specifically the one that was subdued by Atlas himself) and turned human by removing her darkness with their technology.

    Nanako Tachibana 

Nanako Tachibana/Titan Woman

One of the younger Tachibana siblings. She has blue eyes and chocolate-hued soft and fluffy hair. Rather young for an Atlas employee, she was taken in by the company after her father decided to cut her off for not living up to expectations, which is why she feels personally indebted to the company.

Through the experiments of Seiryu she was turned into Titan Woman, a faceless being of liquid metal decked out in logos to fulfill her purpose of being a living advertisement for Titan Cola.
  • Expy: Titan Woman is one to none other than Advertising/Pepsiman.
  • Eyeless Face: Titan Woman's face is almost entirely devoid of features.
  • Sigil Spam: All of the drones she creates of course also carry the Titan Cola logo.
  • Symbol Face: The only features her face carries are her lips and the Titan Cola logo on her forehead.

    Rena Kazumi 

Rena Kazumi

A woman working for Atlas Corp and the adopted mother of Minami. With long braided, white hair and red eyes, as a Monster she has the power to move between shadows. She was heavily involved in the Prime Resonance project and vanished during its tragedy.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Makes a short appearance at the beginning of “Gekijouban”.
  • Posthumous Character: She presumably died during the Prime Resonance a couple of years before the story started.

Golden Freedom

    Charlotta D’Or 

Charlotta D’Or

The leader of Golden Freedom and distributor of the Jõtai rings. Her goal is to break the control Atlas Corp has over the city and set everyone free. A master schemer, she always stays calm and tranquil, even if things don't go exactly as planned. She acts like a mother figure to the other members and is the wife of Rose. Her cover identity is of the Atlas Corp doctor, Charlotta.
  • Criminal Found Family: Her and Rose are married and Saeko/Spider is their adopted child.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: She doesn't even try to hide how much working together with Atlas Corp and particularly Atlas himself irks her.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Her genuine goal is to free the city of Atlas Corp's control and allow people to live their free-est lives, even if she has to force innocents into becoming Jõtaijin and have them rampage. Despite that, as Doctor Charlotta she actively helps anyone affected by Golden Freedom's schemes.

    Rose/Baroness Bat 

Rose/Baroness Bat

The right hand woman and wife of D’Or. An affectionate vampire monster, who genuinely tries to improve the lives of others with the use of Jõtai, despite her sultry appearance. Her cover identity is of Mimoto High’s principal and Doctor Charlotta’s wife, Rose.

    General Spider Major Spoilers 

General Spider

A member of Golden Freedom. Dangerous and (supposedly) charismatic she follows the group’s goal to create more Jõtaijin and cause chaos, though she's also prone to quickly lose her composure if things don't go her way just a little bit. She's the one to give Mikai the Jõtai that lets her become Jõtaider Mimoto. Her real identity is Saeko Suikumo.

    King Cobra/Ichiro Tachibana 

Ichiro Tachibana/King Cobra

The only male member of Golden Freedom. Extremely lewd and with an innuendo at every opportunity he’s only with Golden Freedom, because they allow him to do what he wants without any responsibility. He mainly uses his Jõtai to create more “cute boys”.

His real identity is Ichiro Tachibana. A man in his twenties who usually appears in a black suit with red tie and well-combed black hair. He’s known as the poster child of his family and heir to the Tachibana Foundation.

Mimoto High

    Mumei-Chan 

Mumei-Chan/Legatus Lupus

A social outcast who’s constantly overlooked. Due to nobody having bothered to learn she’s accepted to just be referred to as “Mumei-chan”, due to eye-covering bangs. Alongside Mikai she's offered a Jõtai, turning her into the Monster Legatus Lupus, a canine warrior made of marble. After her defeat she starts to make an effort to help other students that were turned into Jõtaijin.

    Hachiro Tachibana 

Hachiro Tachibana/Sleepy Sheep

The ever-tired eighth son of the Tachibana family, Hachiro (or Tiro as his friends would call him) just wants to relax and get through life without worrying too much about the responsibility that fell on his shoulders. A tiny nudge from King Cobra, and the Sleepy Sheep became real, allowing him to snooze away with the caveat of everyone he cuddles up to becoming a sheep pawn. Following his defeat he keeps the wool and an even bigger need to sleep.

    Yua Hokori 

Yua Hokori/Queen Pawn

A green-haired happy-go-lucky girl attending Mimoto High. After being turned into a pawn by Cheer Champ she refuses to go into therapy and instead indulge in her developing pawn syndrome, leading to her walking around in a latex bodysuit and being rather submissive to others, particularly Jõtaijin.
  • Brainwash Residue: After being turned into a pawn for the first time she refuses to have her Pawn Syndrome treated and rather opts to indulge in it. This manifests in more submissive tendencies and she often volunteers herself to be turned into a pawn by a close Jõtaijin.
  • Casual Kink: Deciding to indulge in her Pawn Syndrome rather than treating it, she often can be found walking around with a full body latex suit under her normal clothes.
  • Happiness in Slavery: She actively indulges in her Pawn Syndrome and leaps at the first chance to be brainwashed into a loyal pawn any chance she gets.
  • Magic Kiss: As the Pawn Queen she turns her victims into fellow pawns by kissing, the kisses leaving obvious marks on each of them.
  • Weak-Willed: Her Pawn Syndrome makes her weak towards the mind control of Jõtaijins, not that she minds though.

    Kokoro Akaijin 

Kokoro Akaijin

The valedictorian of Mimoto High. Following being turned into a pawn by Glory Chaser she refuses to go into therapy regarding her developing pawn syndrome and i stead believes to be able to suppress it solely with her willpower, even if it usually fails in critical situations.
  • Brainwash Residue: After being turned into a pawn for the first time she refuses to have her Pawn Syndrome treated, believing she can suppress it through sheer force of will. This manifests in more submissive tendencies and a reluctant enjoyment of being turned into a Jõtaijin’s pawn.
  • More Hypnotizable Than He Thinks: She thinks she can combat her Pawn Syndrome with pure willpower, but every time she makes eye contact with a Jõtaijin she's proven wrong.
  • Weak-Willed: Her Pawn Syndrome makes her particularly easy to be brainwashed into a pawn.

    Mina Magatsu 

Mina Magatsu/Glory Chaser

One of the school’s star runners, an intense inferiority complex made her accept a Jõtai, turning her into Glory Chaser, a being that can absorb the powers of others to strengthen herself and fuel her own ambitions.

    Rika Nitta 

Rika Nitta/Cheer Champ

Mina’s best friend who's fine with supporting her from the sidelines. Her insecurities lead to her becoming the Jõtaijin Cheer Champ, granting her a massive, muscular body, which she solely utilizes to strengthen her allies from the back with her cheers.

    Aimi Sasaki 

Aimi Sasaki/Mama

A delinquent at Mimoto High. With her high willpower she transforms failing students into members of her gang in order to improve their lives. Having been abandoned by her own parents, she sees her gang as her children and fears for their futures. This is taken literally as she's turned into the Jõtaijin Mama, giving her a more mature body and making her unable to ket go of her children.
  • Charm Person: Her strong willpower gives her the power to turn others into loyal minions long before she got turned into a Jõtaijin.

    Nanae Harada 

Nanae Harada/Mudbath

The middle member of the ganguro trio and a cat girl. Wanting to be her own person while staying friends with the others left her stuck in an identity crisis Cobra makes use of. As the Jõtaijin Mudbath he covers others in the mud his body is made out of to leave them in blissful happiness.
  • Gyaru Girl: A member of the ganguro trio, even if the makeup was initially just superficial. After being turned into Mudbath the tan becomes permanent.

    Ichika “Dekaicchi” Dekako 

Ichika “Dekaicchi” Dekako/Tithoth

A tanuki girl with an unnaturally mature body who knows how to take advantage of her big breasts to lure other students into situations she can blackmail them for. As the Jõtaijin Tithoth she appears in the garments of an egyptian priestess that do little to hide her modesty. With her even more massive melons she hypnotizes her victims into becoming her “dear mammaries” and worship her bosom.
  • Big-Breast Pride: Has the largest breasts in school and loves the attention they get.

    Kotaro Kaeshi 

Kotaro Kaeshi/Flipper Fox/Derriere Devotee

A friend of Hayato’s who’s obsessed with watching boys being turned into girls. Cobra turns him into the Jõtaijin Derriere Devotee, an ass-obsessed male nun who spreads the love for the Divine Derriere.
  • Alliterative Name: Kotaro Kaeshi, Flipper Fox and Derriere Devotee.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Despite his interest in watching boys turn into girls, his dialogue as “Flipper Fox” indicates him having a crush on Hayato.
  • Canon Foreigner: He was originally created for the non-canon Gaiden story “Flipper Fox”, but the author enjoyed his character enough to also include him in the main story.

Teachers

    Katsuo Maki 

Katsuo Maki/Head Teacher

Mikai’s homeroom teacher, who lost his wife and daughter. While Mikai reminds him of his daughter, he holds a grudge against Hiro for being involved in the incident that took his daughter. These regrets lead to him accepting a Jõtai ring of D’Or to become Head Teacher and turn his class into perfect model students, who are set on the right path.
  • Chess Motif: The Jõtaijin Head Teacher is clearly themed after the king piece in chess.

    Erina Godeliva 

Erina Godeliva

A teacher at Mimoto High who is usually responsible for the Remedial Class. A pink-haired harpy Monster with equally pink wing arms. She has a reputation across the school for being awful at her job and bemoaning her lack of a love life.
  • Old Maid: She often bemoans her lack of a love life at her age.
  • Stealth Pun: State 6 has her eat a christmas-themed cake, a Christmas cake you could say.

    Kaoru Fushimi

Mikai’s mother. Due to worrying about her daughter's emotional state for the last ten years, she's happy to indulge her daughter as long as it keeps her happy. She's a very dedicated gamer. With a Jõtai she's turned into Dictator M. A dangerous fighter based on one of her favorite games, whose “Psycho Power” allows her to copy and counter the skills of her opponents.
  • Expy: Dictator is an obvious clone fighter of M. Bison, right down to the “Psycho Power”.

    Alyssa Winters 

Alyssa Winters

A childhood friend of Agatha who because of her depression locked herself up in her own home and barely takes care of herself. Using a Jotai given to her by Bat, she gains a plumper appearance and more maternal attitude, even if she still barely leaves her room.
  • Mess of Woe: Her apartment is a giant dirty mess when we’re first introduced to her, reflecting the depression she has fallen into.

    Azami Mizutani 

Azami Mizutani/Inebriated Maiden

A girl who wants to become a maiden at the local shrine. After being refused, a Jõtai turns her into a large oni, but instead of causing chaos she's content with protecting the shrine and drinking her sake. Because of this she's considered one of Spider’s two big failures.

    Yu 

Yu

A dark-haired boy who has been tending to the local shrine as part of his family's duty since he was young. Somewhat unwillingly he trains Azami to be a shrine maiden. Through sheer discipline he's able to suppress the corrupting effects of a Jõtai he willingly puts on, turning him into an oni in geisha-style clothing and makeup.

    Kouta Ban 

Kouta Ban/Kolorful Inkster

A perverted young man, who dabbles in street art. Thanks to Cobra he becomes the Jõtaijin Kolorful Inkster, who traps his victims in the paint he’s made out of to release their inner perverts.
  • Animal Motifs: Kolorful Inkster is based on a peacock, with his attention-grabbing colors and the long peacock feathers.

    Haruhi Kaneko 

Haruhi Kaneko/Hopper

Formerly Atlas' right hand woman as well as a member of Golden Freedom, who has been very close to Tsukiko. She developed the Hopper technology, which she harnessed herself through her own Monster heritage. After the Luna Descent she left both groups and has been researching the Darkness and developed the new Hopper Systems.
  • Animal Motifs: With her villain name and powers she carries the motif of a grasshopper.
  • The Atoner: Following the Luna Descent she's been trying to find ways not only to bring back Tsukiko but also prevent the Darkness from attacking again.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Over the last years she came to the conclusion that the Jõtai-factor is what attracts The Darkness and has been working on ways to remove ift from people, even if it comes with heavy aftereffects.

    Akemi Hokori 

Akemi Hokori/Dazzling Star

Yua’s older sister, who doesn't approve of her pawn indulgence. An actress in the local theater who rather supports others than be the main role herself. This changes when she's turned into Dazzling Star, a Jõtaijin made of ruby, who traps Mikai and her friends in an endlessly looping theater performance.
  • Canon Foreigner: Her first appearance was in the Gaiden story “Cosmos Virgo” before she gets a canon introduction in State 13.

    Yuuka Shimo 

Yuuka Shimo/Frozen Feeling

Yuuki’s younger sister. A yuki-onna like her sister and more traditional and soft-spoken than her. The advent of The Darkness turns her into Frozen Feeling, a ghostly monster in search of someone who causes a giant blizzard.

    Sanko Tachibana 

Sanko Tachibana/Showrunner

The third child of the Tachibana family and the older twin of Shiro. As the eldest daughter she still carries a lot of responsibility and proudly looks up to their oldest brother for guidance. As a form of payback, Lumiel turns her into Showrunner, a ditzy clown trapped head-to-toe in red-and-black latex resembling a ring leader.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Has this dynamic with her twin Shiro. Due to her additional role as the eldest daughter she has many responsibilities and tries her best to appear the part.

    Shiro Tachibana

The fourth child of the Tachibana family and the younger twin of Sanko. As the third son he doesn't carry many responsibilities and it shows in his more casual and down-to-earth attitude compared to his sister. As a form of payback, Lumiel turns him into Troubletamer, a ditzy clown trapped head-to-toe in blue-and-black latex resembling a beast tamer.
  • The Beastmaster: Troubletamer appears as a beast tamer and in his circus show he tames some former Jõtaijin still featuring animal parts.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Has this dynamic with his twin Sanko. He doesn't have many responsibilities and therefore is very lax, bordering on lazy.

    Oyabun Kazutora Mizuki

Agatha’s mother and the owner of Yoruhana, a geisha-themed nightclub that offers all kinds of special services. A shrewd woman with connections to the city’s underworld. Her relationship with her daughter is strained due to her high absence.
  • Evil Matriarch: Agatha’s mother and a big figure in Mimoto City’s underworld.
  • Evil Parents Want Good Kids: She genuinely wants Agatha to follow in the footsteps of her heroic other mother instead of her own.

    Colonel Michael Fushimi

Mikai’s father and acting commander of the Sanctuary Battalion, a military force protecting humanity from the Monsters in the vast wilderness. Currently he's part of a joint mission to hunt a Monster known as Manticore.
  • Action Dad: Mikai’s father and a soldier protecting Mimoto City from monsters.

    Minerva Anemone/Commissar Eclipse

Agatha’s mother and under the name Commissar Eclipse the Commander of AEGIS. Clad in red and black and wearing an eyepatch she transforms her soldiers into drones to increase their efficiency, but leaves them some independence. Currently she's on a joint mission to hunt a Monster known as Manticore.
  • Action Mom: Agatha’s mother, a soldier protecting Mimoto City from monsters and a former magical girl fighting The Darkness.
  • Eyepatch of Power: She wears an eyepatch over one of her eyes. If it fulfills any purpose is yet unclear.
  • Fallen Hero: She once was a magical girl fighting the darkness. An unknown event left her broken and unable to continue this line of work, so she became a soldier to still help in some way.

    Setsuna Kaname/”White Angel”

An old classmate of Hiro who left Mimoto City in order to pursue an international career as the idol known as “White Angel”. She has long silver hair and blue eyes and enjoys teasing Hiro about her nerdy hobbies. Her desire to share her real songs with the world and not what producers force her to manifest in her becoming the Jõtaijin Idolizer, a metallic angel, whose many speakers make her songs reverberate through the heads of her listeners.
  • Compelling Voice: As Idolizer her voice can brainwash her listeners and turn them into loyal pawns.
  • Mass Hypnosis: With her mind-controlling voice Idolizer is able to turn the entire stadium into obedient pawns.

The Darkness

    Cepha 

Cepha

A monster from beyond and one of the Prime Darknesses whose only goal is to suck all the existing willpower up into darkness. She was responsible for the events that are known as the Luna Descent and the disappearance of Tsukiko Tsurugi. Nowadays her mental state seems to be deteriorating.
  • Expy: The author confirmed she's taking major inspirations from Precia Testarossa.

    Kimiko Namishi Major Spoilers 

Kimiko Namishi/True Mimoto

A mysterious girl who appears one day at Mikai’s side claiming to have been her best friend during her emotionless time. Her positive attitude belies the fact that she seemingly knows more than she lets on.

In reality she's the manifestation of Mikai’s stolen emotions, given form by Cepha as a Luna. Her goal is to have Mimoto devoured by the Darkness while in the process destroying Mikai, the empty vessel she believes to have stolen her life.
  • Manipulative Bastard: She spends the first half of the second arc subtly manipulating Mikai into falling into despair and believing that everyone is against her.
  • Remember the New Guy?: She just suddenly shows up and introduces herself as Mikai’s best friend from before she regained emotions, who had distanced herself from Mikai so far to not impede her recovery. The characters are just as surprised.

    Lord Lumiel 

Lumiel

An envoy creating monsters for The Darkness. With his silver tongue he manipulates others to move according to the script he created for the perfect showdown. He often has to play the straight man to the more eccentric Primes.
  • Only Sane Man: He often seems to be the only Prime whose main focus is the destruction of worlds and only focuses on personal objectives on the side. This is exaggerated in side stories where his exasperation upon the zany antics of other primes is always used for comedy.

    Overlord Helheim

An agent of The Darkness. A giant mechanical dragonoid whose mere presence forces most down to their knees and acknowledge him as their Overlord. His Virus allows him to turn the people around him into loyal robotic kobolds. The only interest of this boisterous monster is in fighting strong opponents.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: He’s three meters tall, very loud and will face any challenge head on.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: After his introduction Overlord Helheim The X feels the need to point out that the X is pronounced “cross”.
  • Losing Your Head: Many fights end with him being reduced to just a head while his body repairs itself.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Overlord Helheim The End features an additional set of arms, each equipped with a different weapon.

    Neoheim 

Neoheim/Neoheim The End/N-Eroheim

A robotic “daughter” Helheim created to counter the Jõtaiders. Either appears as a bulky mechanical snake or a copy of Kanzei with a draconic head. She just wants to fight at her father's side and make him proud.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: She may have only been created by Helheim to counter the Jõtaider, but he still genuinely considers her his daughter and she just wants to make him proud.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Neoheim The End features an additional set of arms, each with its own weapon, just like her father.

    Tsukiko Tsurugi/Jõtaider Shadow Major Spoilers

The heroine of ten years ago, Hiro's sensei, and a woman who's satisfied when she sees the smiles of those she helps. It's why she took up a more supportive role inside Atlas Corp during her time, and why she's left a mark on those that she's interacted with. Despite her casual attitude she’s very perceptive. After coming into possession of a Jõtai she can don the Jõtaider Shadow armor and fights injustice using it.

After ten years of having been gone from this world she returns not as a friend, but as a Luna, featuring the same pale skin and tentacle hair and a completely gray armor. But while it may not be beating, the heart of a hero may still be in there somewhere.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: After ten years in the Darkness she has been turned into another Luna and it shows in much more unhinged mannerisms.
  • Face–Heel Turn: In the ten years she was trapped in the darkness she was turned into a Luna.
  • Henshin Hero: She can transform into the armored hero, Jõtaider Shadow.

    Impersona

A being of pure darkness that in its normal form appears dressed like a thief. It has the power to steal and copy the identities of her victims and even take the appearance of people from their memories.
  • Face Stealer: She can take on the appearance of any victim that's trapped in her darkness.

    The Lunas 

Luna

Cepha’s adorable daughters. Those who are subjected to Cepha’s powers turn into them. During the Luna Descent large masses of inhabitants turned into these and disappeared into the darkness.
  • Clone by Conversion: Cepha’s powers can turn anyone without a strong will into another Luna just by having them look at the darkened sky.
