The Sorceri are species of enchanters and enchantresses. They are among the physically weakest of the Lore and are related to the House of Witches but don't bring it up, they're very proud.
Tropes shared by all Sorceri
- Death Activated Super Power: Inverted, they can steal a witches power by killing him/her.
- Fantastic Racism:
- Absolute mortal enemies with the Vrekener because of their genocidal attitude. The Vrekener kill "evil" Sorceri as adults but take in children, separating siblings so their minds are more easily turned. They brainwash the females to be like theirs-biddable and grave, the exact opposite of their true nature.
- Not fans of demons. Any kind of demon, as they are more staid and thus have polar views on life.
- Do not like witches or people bringing up the fact that they're related.
- Mage Species: Their culture is focused on merriment and enjoyment. They are vegetarian and drink sweet wine. Because of their physical weakness they wear elaborate armour around their chest and neck.
- Red String of Fate: Averted, they don't believe in fate don't believe in fate and don't have a particular fated mate.
- Our Souls Are Different: Their culture holds their root power as being their soul.
- Vain Sorceress: Their relative weakness made them obsessed with elaborate armour and headresses for protected, but it's turned into more of vanity and obsession with gold.
- They are born with a power that is their 'root power' which can be lost to another. Someone who loses their powers becomes an Inferi, a mindless slave. A stolen power can be taken during intercourse.
Sabine
Queen of Illusions, Queen of the Rage Demons and Mate of Rydstrom.Tropes:
- Defecting for Love: Starts off actively working for Omort and the Pratus. At the end of Kiss of a Demon King she's working for the Vertas passively and actively aiding Tornin's best interests.
- Big Sister Instinct: To Melanthe. She kills the leader of the Vrekener and dies multiple times herself starting at the age of twelve all to protect her sister. The reason that they was in danger from the Vrekener? Their parents were evil and Sabine didn't think she was old enough to protect Lanthe on her own if they left.
- Mysterious Backer: To Bettina, for the reader who doesn't find out she's Bettina's patronness until the end.
- Names to Run Away From: Sabine manages to clean out an entire bar after someone recognises her. Including the bartender.
- Technical Virgin: Her sister refers to her as the Queen of BJs.
- Vain Sorceress: Even more so than other Sorceri, thanks to her mother.
- Virginity Flag: The tablet that signifies Sabine's Sanctuary on her body breaks after she does the deed.
Lanthe
potential Queen of Persuasion, MelantheTropes:
- The Bus Came Back: Recalled from Kiss of A Demon King to Demon From the Dark where she looks after Ruby while Carrow is in the hell dimension.
- And then gets her own story with Dark Skye.
- Childhood Friend Romance: With Thronos, who refers to them as childhood sweethearts after he snarls at her in anger in The Order's facility. Carrow is surprised.
- Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: She admits this to herself and realises it's probably why all the Sorcerers she sleeps with steal her power.
- Really Gets Around: Even she admits this, and suspects its because she desperately wants to be loved.
- Suspiciously Apropos Music: Don't Fear The Reaper plays on her iPod at night while she's scared, she tries not to take it as a sign.
- Thinking Up Portals: Her secondary power, can only be used once a week but is one of the best portals seen in the series.
Bettina
Princess (later Queen) of Abaddon, Kingdom of the Deathly Ones AKA Bettina, Queen of Hearts. Bride of Trehan Daciano.Tropes:
- Arranged Marriage: As the prize for winning a Forced Prize Fight to the Death.
- Conveniently an Orphan: Her mother was killed by Vrekener and her father died of sorrow. Leaving her demon uncle as regent and her godmother Morgana in charge of her. This meant that she eventually promised them an arrange marriage for safety.
- Heart Is an Awesome Power: As the Queen of Hearts this is a literal power, she can stop a person's heart in their chest.
- Literal Metaphor: Queen of Hearts. Not because of her beauty, but because of her ability to stop people's hearts.
- Marry for Love: She tried this with Caspion, later actually achieved it with Trehan.
- Pass Fail: She presents as Sorceri, being more fragile than most and both she and her subjects at first considered her more Sorceri than Demon.
- Rebellious Princess: Went badly. She went to the "real world" and was attacked and had her power stolen by a group of rogue Vrekener in New Orleans. So traumatised by this event she agreed to an Arranged Marriage for her own protection.
- Summoning Artifact: Bound to an amulet that can summon her, and is part of the prize of winning her as a Bride.
Morgana
Queen of the Sorceri. She is both the Queen in the magical able to control all Sorceri and use their powers way and in the royalty way.Tropes:
- Heart Is an Awesome Power: Queen of the Sorceri also means she's the most powerful Sorceri to control other Sorceri. And their powers. She can control any Sorceri and use their power as her own while controlling them.
- Parental Neglect: Subverted, as a guardian to Bettina she seemed very neglectful, even calling her freakling[[note]]A jab on Bettina's halfing status[/note]], but she actually cares for her and want the best for her. She just tries to push Bettina into standing up for herself.
- Royal Blood: She's the Queen of the Sorceri, as in the monarchy queen.
- The Rival: La Dorada, Queen of Evil. They're opposed and she isn't sure which of them would be able to control the other first.
- Token Evil Teammate: Nix made a deal with her so she's aligned all Sorceri loyal to the Vertas, grudgingly.
