Character sheet for Discovery Kids' Flight 29 Down
Titular Character THE MAIN KIDS: The seven survivors who remain on the beach for the majority of the season. Their struggles and relationships make up the main part of the show
Cody Jackson
Played by: Johnny Pacar
- The Ace: Levelheaded and physically fit, Jackson learns to fish while on the island with rather unorthodox lessons. He also has the ability to keep the peace between the more hot-headed of the group and break up the rare fight
- Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: This sums up the basis of Jackson's and Melissa's relationship, when he pulls away into his own head, she is always willing to try and coax him out
- Big Brother Instinct: Towards everyone in the group to some extent (espially in Hotel Tango when he protects the camp from Captain Russell) but especially towards Lex, seeming to have formed a bond with the youngest crash survivor from the first day -this incudes making sure Lex is safe and making sure his voice and opinions are heard.
- Chick Magnet: Attracts both Melissa and Taylor over the course of the series.
- Combat Pragmatist:In Holtel Tango, he rushes up to a delusion Captain Russel from behind and holds of him by total surprise
- Deadpan Snarker: At times, he has a very dry sense of humor towards his fellow castaways
- Hidden Depths: While he starts off as a silent loner with a shady past, Jackson proves to be a capable leader, a talented musician, and a thoughtful friend
- Meaningful Name:The name Cody is primarily a male name of English origin that means Helpful. From the Irish/Gaelic surname "Ó Cuidighthigh" which means "helpful." Jackson means "God has been gracious". Given his role as a leader and provider, it fits.
- Missing Mom: In his video diary, Jackson mentions that he hasn't been allowed to see his mom for a long time by Foster Services
- Mr. Fanservice: Left a lasting impression on young girls who watched the show...as well as two young ladies in it.
Daley Marin
Played by: Halle Hirsh
- Promoted to Parent: Keeps an eye out on her much younger brother at all times on the island -comforting him, fussing over him, and the like.
Eric Mc Gorrill
Lex Marin
Melissa Wu
Played by: Kristy Wu
- Betty and Veronica: The Betty to Taylor's Veronica.
- Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Melissa tends to wear this color at her strongest points later in the series when she has more maturity and grace. It's the color she wears when she puts down Taylor for getting closer to Jackson knowing how much she likes him. Its's the color she wears when asking Jackson to define their relationship, and where she starts to wonder if Daley's democracy is a good idea. It's also the color she wears in Hotel Tango when she promises Jackson she will be there for him back home -but only if he wants that.
- Love at First Sight: The moment she first saw Jackson when he arrived at her school, the girl was a goner, absolutely smitten with a big ol' smile on her face (and who could blame her?).
- The Idealist: At the beginning of the series, she is fully confident that the group could work together and that Daley's democracy could also work...yeah.
- The Ingenue: Has shades of this, especially around Jackson in the flashback to Harwell, when she shyly tries to be his friend
- Is This What Anger Feels Like?: Has had a few moments like this later in the series -I mean, for such a formally happy, optimistic character, it's chilling watching her lay into Eric and Taylor when the former nearly drowns the both of them, and the latter gets a little to close to Jackson.
- The Medic: She tends to be the one to comfort and treat her fellow castaways when they fall ill or are injured
- Meaningful Name:The name Melissa derives from the Greek word mélissa, meaning "bee," which was taken from the word meli, meaning "honey." This is very fitting, considering her sweet nature.
- Virgin in a White Dress: Again in the Hartwell flashback during "Regrets", most poignantly in the last scene, when Jackson accepts her offer to come on the trip, Melissa tends to wear a lot of white shirts and blouses. This fits with her innocent nature before the crash and creates a contrast with Jackson, who has had a much more difficult life that has left him cynical. He tends to wear black/darker clothes.
Nathan Mc Hugh
Taylor Hagan
Lex Marin
Played by:
- Expy: Like Piggy from Lord of the Flies, Lex acts as the Voice of Reason and he's a pretty smart kid.
