Main Leads

Oh Joonyeong

  • Always Save The Boy: Saves Woojin from getting bit by a zombie at the last second.
  • Badass Bookworm: Incredibly intelligent and now has superhuman abilities, which are made use of when needed.
  • Blessed with Suck: Hates that becoming a hambie now leads to him craving human flesh and worries greatly about accidentally hurting Woo-jin. Also, superhearing is incredibly painful when it has to be.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Loves Soowi greatly and wants to protect her more than anything else.
  • Happily Adopted: Is absolutely thrilled when Lieutenant Song offers to take in him and Soo-wi.
  • Manly Tears: He's got a lot of reasons to cry.
  • Official Couple: Confesses his feelings for Woo-jin and they become this.
  • Promotion to Parent: After both his mother and father die, he's all Soowi has left and worries a great deal about how he's supposed to raise her when he's still so young himself.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After becoming a hambie.
  • You Killed My Mother: After Gwinam kills his mother, he kills Gwinam.

Jang Woojin

  • Armoured Closet Gay: He was extremely secretive about his sexuality thanks to a bad experience he had when he was in middle school. He is very aware that his society is not accepting of other sexualities and has only told his older sister. After Joonyeong asks him out, he eventually does tell his friends and becomes a lot more relaxed about it.
  • Artists Are Attractive: Is a very good artist, and quite good-looking.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Joonyeong.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Was sexually harassed at the age of fifteen by a group of boys who tried to hold him down and kiss him, though he always managed to fight them off, and knew that his parents and other adults would be unsympathetic towards him, so kept quiet.
  • Hidden Depths: His art skills.
  • Patient Childhood Love Interest: It's not specified when Woo-jin developed feelings for Joon-yeong, but I'm Slipping and Falling (and Falling and Falling...) does make it clear that he's liked him for a while now.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Joon-yeong manages to save him before he gets bitten.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: From watching his crush brutally kill Gwi-nam to assuring Joon-yeong after they overhear Captain Ahn to crawling into bed with him after meeting Eunji, he has no hesitation when it comes to Joon-yeong's hambie status. After his anxiety attack, Joon-yeong notes that Woo-jin is the only one who does understand him the way he needs him to.
  • The Unfavorite: His parents preferred his older sister for her archery skills, leaving him to fade into the background.

Joonyeong's Family

Oh Soowi

Park Seongmin

  • A Day In The Lime Light: Has an entire chapter dedicated to her and her backstory leading up to Joonyeong's birth, including her relationship with her daughter's namesake.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Part of the tragedy is that her and her husband were so loving and one of the reasons their deaths were so damning for Joonyeong is because he relied on their advice so much.
  • Friendless Background: Had no friends until she met Soo-wi's namesake.
  • Good Parents: Her and Taehyun were very loving and instilled good values in their children.
  • Mama Bear: For both her children. Dies to protect Joonyeong.

Lieutenant Song Kangdae

Other Kids

Choi Namra

  • Badass Bookworm: Like Joonyeong, the top of her class and harboring hambie abilities.
  • My Beloved Smother: Resents her mother for being this in the past but is forgiving her.
  • Birds of a Feather: Her and Joonyeong strike up a friendship seeing as they are both the only hambies in their group and have to deal with the fallout of their biological differences.

Yang Daesu

  • Sad Clown: The goofy friend, who is also often belittled for his weight and grades by his family and friends.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: Woo-jin doesn't know it, but Dae-su discovered his art account a while ago, meaning he knows about his talent for drawing.
  • Ship Tease: Hasn't gotten together with Hyo-ryung but they are getting a lot closer.

Nam Onjo

  • Shipper on Deck: Wants Joonyeong and Woojin to get together.
  • Team Mom: Is the character the most protective of the kids after Joonyeong.

Lee Cheongsan

Lee Suhyeok

  • Everyone Can See It: No one needs to be told about his and Namra's Relationship Upgrade. The prequel shows that Woo-jin knew that they were a couple by the time they were on the roof despite being one of the only characters unaware of Cheong-san's feelings for On-jo.

Seo Hyoryung

  • Nice Girl: Quite sweet, though feels uneasy about making friends with the other survivors after previously being friends with Nayeon. Her Christmas presents for the other kids are just lovely.
  • Ship Tease: With Daesu.

Shin Jeonghoon

Jang Hari

  • Big Sister Instinct: Towards Woo-jin, just like in canon. Their backstory here includes her stopping a group of older boys from harassing him. However, this is deconstructed as it's her trying to keep from hurting him that fuels her decision to keep their parents' deaths a secret, which ruins their relationship.
  • Heroic BSoD: With no prospects for university or getting on any professional archery teams, and with her brother no longer talking to her and seemingly hating her, Ha-ri takes up smoking.
  • Stoic: Is quite reserved in her emotions, especially in comparison to her brother.

Park Mijin
