The Wall and Beyond

The great barrier separating Westeros in the south from the northern lands of the wildlings (or Free Folk, as they call themselves), protected by the brotherhood of the Night's Watch.

    open/close all folders

The Night Watch

An ancient brotherhood that watches the Wall and make sure nothing from the lands beyond it crosses into the Seven Kingdoms. While they used to be a respected order of knights, nowadays it's seen as a dumping ground of criminals.
    Jeor Mormont*

Lord Commander Jeor Mormont

The leader of the Night's Watch and former ruler of Bear Island. Surviving his canon fate, he prepares to face the Others.
  • Defiant to the End: Surrounded by wights and facing off against two Others, he prepares to go down fighting. Fortunately, intervention by Steve saves him.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Is perfectly willing to toss aside the Watch's centuries of animosity with the wildlings in face of the war with the Others.
  • Spit Take: He and Benjen do this in unison when Steve reveals that Lann the Clever was a dwarf.

    Benjen Stark

Benjen Stark

Ned's younger brother, and First Ranger of the Night's Watch.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Arrives with Steve just in time to save Jeor's group from the Others.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Despite his loyalty to the Watch, he's also very invested in what the Starks are up to.
  • Spit Take: He and Jeor do this in unison when Steve reveals that Lann the Clever was a dwarf.

     Maester Aemon

Aemon Targaeryn

The Maester of the Night's Watch, and oldest nonmagical man in Westeros.
  • Living Relic: The 3rd son on Maekar Targaeryn, and quite old, since that's 4 generations removed from the current game of thrones.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Since he's blind, he doesn't have an immediate reaction to the shock of Steve Rogers being unveiled. It takes Steve gently guiding Aemon for him to understand what happened.

The Free Folk

Known as "wildlings" south of the Wall, these are the people who live in the lands beyond the wall. Due the growing threat of the Court of the Others, they seek to cross the Wall into the Seven Kingdoms.

    Mance Rayder

Mance Rayder, King-Beyond-The-Wall

The elected king of the Free Folk, and a former member of the Night's Watch.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Like Jeor, he's willing to set aside the animosity between his people and the Watch in light of the Others' return.

    Ygritte

Ygritte

A Wildling warrior woman and one of Mance's lieutenants.
  • Action Girl: One of Mance's best fighters.
  • Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like: Doesn't quite enjoy being saved from the Others by Benjen, since he's a Black Brother.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Hates being called "lady", even if it's just because she's a woman, since in her mind a lady is a pampered woman who just sits around and does nothing all day.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Red Skull tries to turn her into a host for Sarkissian (AKA Viper and Madame Hydra in the comics), but Ygritte is able to turn the process against them and becomes a friendly Other like Steve.
  • Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance: Ygritte has some... interesting reactions to how different the Free Folk were in the Dawn Age.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: Curses like a sailor, all the time, much to Steve's annoyance.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Mance, sticking by his side regardless of danger or how she feels about his decisions.

    Lord of Bones

Rumlow aka Lord of Bones

A Wildling chieftain who wears a suit made of bones.
  • Body Horror: After being transformed, it appears that Crossbones has the bones become part of his body and not just an armor.
  • Composite Character: As going by his name, he's a combination of Rattleshirt the Lord of Bones, and Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones.
  • Dem Bones: As noted, he wears a suit made out of bones.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: He gets turned into a thrall by the Red Skull and he relishes his new power.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Does not like being called by his name instead of his title.

    Tormund Giantsbane

Tormund Giantsbane

A Wildling leader and one of Mance's closest allies.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: A big guy and pretty damn friendly when he likes you.
  • Crossover Relatives: While there's no indication of him having siblings in canon, here he's Rahne's older brother.

    Rahne Wolfsbane

Rahne Wolfsbane

Tormund's sister, who can transform into a giant wolf.

The Old Gods and their Servants

While long forgotten by many mortals, the Old Gods are still quite active, and now moving their servants and powers to protect the people of Westeros.
     The Old Gods
  • Adaptational Heroism: The Old Gods of canon were...not nice. A spiritual force, but one that asked much in blood and danger. Here, though not necessarily benevolent, they seem to get along with the Faith of the Seven (the Norse gods), and even when forgotten by much of Westeros, fights to protect all on the continent.
  • Voice of the Legion: When they speak to Jaime, they use voices of both sexes and a variety of ages.
     Bloodraven
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: The Old Gods know that Bloodraven's own self interest will eventually turn him against their plans, but he's the best teacher for young Bran, so they need him alive as long as he helps them.
  • Wild Card: The other servants of the old Gods don't trust Bloodraven too much. Given his backstory, that's more than understandable.
     Mantis
  • Cheerful Child: Seems to still have the childlike joy of Rhaenys as part of her character, and loves smiling.
  • Composite Character: The result of a Child of the Forest merging with Rhaenys Targaeryn.
     Summer
  • Composite Character: Summer the Direwolf also has aspects of Cosmo the Spacedog with how he can interact with others.
