Awesome / The George Lopez Show

Go To

  • In "Girls Night Out", Marisol's abusive ex-boyfriend Junior shows up at the plant to harass her. When George gets involved, the guy tries acting tough and intimidating. However, George is completely unimpressed and simply has him thrown out of the plant.
    • Also George calling out Max's troop-leader Mr Dugan for his bigoted and ignorant right-wing views and kicking him out of the troop.
  • When Carmen finds out that her boyfriend Jason has been cheating on her for a month, she calls him over to take his old belongings back. When he arrives, Carmen walks in carrying a box of his belongings while wearing a VERY revealing outfit. Jason is heavily distracted by her sexy outfit, simply repeating he's "never seen that outfit before". Carmen shuts him down with this line-
Carmen: I just want to let you know, if it doesn't work out with Cindy, and you want to call me… (throws out the box) don't. Now that you know what you're losing, go to hell!
    • Jason can only silently leave as she slams the door behind him — then declaring how good that felt for her. Angie applauds her actions, saying she finally stood up for herself with Jason.
  • George's dad heavily badmouths Benny in front of him, thinking George will agree — and honestly, that's a fairly reasonable expectation. But George takes exception because Benny, for all her faults and all the awful things she did to him growing up, still did her best to take care of him as a single parent, something Manny never even attempted to do. The ensuing argument ends with George punching his dad in the mouth, telling him off as he cowers on the floor, and storming out.
  • One of Benny's coworkers makes a joke about her relationship with Randy, so she kicks him in the crotch and pours her beer on his head.
Bob: What are you gonna do? Grab a step stool and pour that beer over my head?
Benny: No... you're gonna come down here.
  • When Veronica flirts with George's boss to make his life hard for him until he caves and gives her her inheritance. George turns it around on her with this one quote:
George: I can handle all the work Mel gives me... but you can only tease him for so long.
  • Doubles as a Funny Moment, but there is the time George zinged Benny's mom once she was out of earshot during the episode where we get to see how much of a monster she is.
George: Damn! I think some flowers died as she walked past.
  • Angie has an absolutely perfect one after Benny makes a crack about her. Benny, having gonorrhea, gets this response:
Angie: *wiping tears* That hurts, Benny. But it doesn't burn.
    • And the minute a horrified Benny turns her back, Angie does a victory pose.
  • And speaking of Benny pwning, we have this exchange:
Benny: Did you think of that last night when you were spooning with Ernie?
George: Look, that was an accident! (Benny gets a Flat "What" look on her face) But at least I can keep a man in my bed! (Benny looks enraged) Yeah! When Ernie gets up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, he comes back!
  • George hallucinates what his life would be like if Benny was a loving mother. Once he wakes up, he ends up back at the house talking to Angie about how it made him a better person and says something like this;
George: I could be the kind of person who'd just let her break my golf clubs, but instead I'm the kind of person that goes into her car and takes this. *Pulls out a steering wheel while sporting a huge grin*
    • He then reveals that Benny is getting her trip to Reno and will get her steering wheel back once she replaces his clubs. When Benny asks how she is supposed to do that with no car George brings up an instance where he was injured as a kid and repeats her words about it to her: "Not My Problem!"
    • The whole incident that started the episode winds up being one for Benny, shockingly. A work contest has a trip to Reno as a prize and Benny is certain she is going to win only for George to announce Gina as the winner. Benny angrily confronts George, who implies that he rigged the contest so she would lose, and threatens him only for George to balk that "there's nothing you can do to hurt me now". Cue broken golf clubs.
  • George gets one even earlier in "Curious George". After discovering that Carmen is alone with a boy in her room, George talks to the boy alone and makes a point of saying that he's always watching, scaring the hell out of the kid. When George leaves the room and the kid collapses on the bed, George yells for him to get off the bed. Cue the boy jumping up, completely freaked out, and frantically looking around the room.
  • George burning the check he was going to give to the school for a field trip after the obnoxious teacher refuses to admit the field trip wasn't a necessity.
  • Benny bashing in Zack Powers' skull with a wrench. It happens offscreen, but you can hear the little twerp screaming and Benny rushing in excitedly with a wrench in her hand. Don't deny it, Zack totally deserved it.
  • An awesome moment for George. He and Angie go off to his sister-in-law's funeral where he has to endure his Obnoxious In-Laws who still see him as a cholo, and goes off to eat hors-d'oeuvres. Then we see Claudia's video will, where we see who will be chosen as Veronica's trustee.
Claudia: The person I chose has worked hard his whole life, and knows the value of money. Will Vic Palmero please step forward?
[Vic steps forward with a smug smirk]
Claudia: Okay. Now bend over and kiss George Lopez's ass, because I pick him.
(everyone turns around and looks at George in shock)
    • Made even funnier by George's immediate reaction.
George: In your face! You heard her, Vic! KISS IT!
    • It is even more awesome when you realize that Claudia considered George to be a better role model than her father-in-law or any of her other in-laws.
      • Claudia even has a small smirk on her face, knowing everyone in attendance will be wanting her money. Not only did she leave everything to her daughter, but she left the keys to it to the one man everyone in the family makes fun of. And not just out of spite either; she recognizes George's hard work is something to be respected. She knows she got them good.
    • From the same episode, George not only gets Vic to admit George is the better father but he also records it as a new ring tone.
  • When Veronica's Con Artist Disappeared Dad, Ray, returns after she gets her inheritance, he convinces everyone that he has changed his ways. George is the only one to hold out on him until he comes up with an apparently legitimate business proposal that he wants Veronica to work with him on. All seems good and happy... until Ray tries sneaking out with the money his daughter loaned him for their planned business. However, he's quickly confronted by George, who reveals he was waiting for him to do just that and he had already canceled the check. And just to be extra cautious, he signed it with a fake name. George then delivers a "Reason You Suck" Speech to Ray and tells him to he wants him to get out of Veronica's life. He also comes up with a plausible reason just to ensure Veronica doesn't get her heart broken by the father she thought she had in her life again.
    • Angie gets one just after Ray does as George asks.
Angie: (While smiling and adjusting Ray's tie) George told me everything. You disgust me. (Tightens his tie to choke him)
Ray: Look, I've had a lot of women try to choke me. You're gonna have to do a lot better than that.
Angie: Gets a look that says, "Oh really?" and tightens his tie even more.
      Ray: (Strained) That's better.
  • George is in fine Papa Wolf form when Veronica moves back into the house and brings with her an emotionally unstable ex-boyfriend who is also her dean. He slams the door in the man's face when he divorces his wife to be with Veronica, turns on the sprinklers when he's crying in the backyard when Veronica refuses to take him back and does what he can to drive the guy away. When he breaks into the house to see Veronica, George punches the guy in the face and has an offscreen fight which is all but stated to be completely one-sided in George's favor before the cops arrive. The line from Veronica's previous appearance sums it up pretty well:
George: As long you're in this house you're under my wing.
    • After the fight, where George's new plasma screen TV is destroyed, he denies Angie the I Told You So that Veronica deserves. He instead forces her to hand over a diamond bracelet she got from her ex-boyfriend (who ended up stalking her and breaking into their home, resulting in the destroyed TV) so he can replace it.
  • Carmen gets an Offscreen Moment of Awesome in "Girl Fight" when she punches out Piper for bullying her and calling her a slut. Piper tries to intimidate her by pushing her, but Carmen holds her ground and fights back. When she comes home in a disheveled and bloodied appearance, George and Angie ask her about the blood on her coat. Carmen remarks that it's Piper's, having gotten a broken nose from her punch. George and Benny are both instantly proud of her for being a "scrapper", with Benny even calling her "champ".
    • George also gets one for intimidating Adam into admitting he was the one who started the rumor about Carmen.
    • In the same episode, Angie gets one after Carmen is suspended for defending herself in the fight she was dragged into by her bullies. Having spent the whole episode planning to write "a strongly worded letter" to the school over Carmen being bullied, she immediately decides to take direct action after finding her daughter was wrongly suspended.
Angie: Okay, I agree, this Rango's got a history with you and maybe he even thinks that he can still bully you, but he has never messed with me before! He is gonna fix this and fix it now!
George: Wait, don't tell me you're going back to the website.
Angie: To HELL with the e-ppointment! When my baby's hurt, I go medieval!
  • In "Trick or Treat me Right", Benny refuses to stop demeaning George, so he handcuffs her to the fridge and gives her an epic The Reason You Suck speech.
  • In one episode, Benny mentions how she was once kidnapped by a trucker as a teenager and held captive in his truck for weeks. When asked how she got away, she says she snatched a chance to knock him unconscious with his thermos... forty-seven times.
  • In “Landlord Almighty” Carmen demands to be treated as an adult by her parents, having "proven" she can take care of herself without their help. George decides that if she really wants to be treated like an adult then okay — he's going to be her landlord and she's going to do real-world things on her own, like pay rent and bills. At first, it works according to plan since Carmen begins struggling to work and also pay her bills, but then her “friend” Taylor comes by and asks to be her roommate so she has a place to crash. For a while, it actually goes well for Carmen as Taylor pays her bills with her modeling gigs. But then Taylor's Toxic Friend Influence kicks in and things begin to head south for her when Taylor spends her money and steals her clothes. When realizing she doesn't have any other options, Carmen threatens to run away again if her parents don't cave in to her demands.
    • In response to this, it's Angie of all people to tell her to go get her bag then. This shocks Carmen and believes her mother, who usually caves to her and is on her side, was bluffing. Angie states that she isn't, saying how having her be gone all night at random parties was no different than her running away. She tells Carmen she needs to know where she is and that she's safe — if she can't do that then she can just leave. This makes Carmen decide to follow their rules again. Goes to show that Angie can be a badass, especially toward her own kids when they push her too far.
  • In "Meet the Cuban Parents", Angie finally gets sick of her father demeaning George despite having made her happy and given her a good life for years. She tells him she's sick of playing mediator and the stress that comes with his visits because she knows how disrespectful he is to George. She tells him that he can either respect her husband or leave. Vic is visibly stunned at this and says that while he thought George would ruin Angie's life, he hasn't. Sure, he says it through clenched teeth — but it was a start that Angie appreciates.
  • "Fishing Cubans", Max (under Benny's suggestion) has a fake birthday party just to get free presents from the special ed kids. When Angie finds out, she furiously grounds him and forces him to give one of his own toys to each kid who spent money to buy him a gift.
  • In “Trouble in Little Paradise” at thanksgiving, the Lopez family has moved to Colorado to start fresh. But it's quickly revealed that the "safe and traditional" town is riddled with rebellious kids who are so bored, they get into trouble to entertain themselves. Carmen shows up at the table drunk, and Max is revealed to have his first hickey. The parents and other adults blame the kids and tell George and Angie their kids are out of control and they need to be better parents, but George angrily points out how his kids didn't do their activities alone — Lil Bit was the one who gave Max a hickey and her brother gave Carmen the beer that got her drunk. Carmen admits how all the kids in Colorado drink, hook up and get in trouble since the adults don't bother to control them, with the brother even being in a street gang. George and Angie realize that Colorado is actually worse than LA and decided to go home, calling out the Colorado town for being hypocrites and in denial about their own messed-up families.
  • In "Trouble With Ricky", Ernie gets couple. First when he chews Ricky out for the dangerous stunt he pulled, and when he decides to adopt Ricky after learning about his bad home life. Proving that while Ernie is a bit of a goofball, he can be a responsible adult when he puts his mind to it.
  • In "Team Leader", George gives Ernie a pity promotion while doing his work for him. When Ernie finds out, he tells off George for treating him like a baby brother and says he'll sink and swim on his own. Despite George's disbelief, Ernie actually manages to meet a production deadline using his own assembly line expertise. The icing on the cake is Ernie forcing George to follow through on his promise of dressing up as a cheerleader at the bar with a smug grin on his face. It is one of the few moments where Ernie gets the last laugh.
  • In "Sabes Quake", when a huge earthquake happens, Carmen is separated from her family, being upstairs but gives a terrifying scream for her father's help. George doesn't hesitate and quickly goes to her room to protect her from the first shock. He then goes to carry Carmen Bridal Carry when she's too shocked to move.
