Panic in the Sky!! note

"Stealing is what thieves do best. Even if it’s a person’s heart."
Kaito Kid

Detective Conan: The Lost Ship in the Sky is the 14th Detective Conan Theatrical Film in the franchise. It was directed by Yasuichiro Yamamoto, written by Kazunari Kouchi, produced by both Masahito Yoshioka and Michihiko Suwa and scored by Katsuo Ono. It was released on April 17, 2010.

The latest Suzuki corp. challenge to Kaitou Kid turns deadly as the dirigible meant to be the stage to trap Kid becomes a floating fortress as mercenaries from a terrorist group hijacks the ship with everyone still on board. Even worse is that this group has possession of a recently stolen bioweapon and appears to be planning to use it against the population of an entire city by releasing it in the sky as the dirigible passes by. Conan, Kaitou Kid, and Heiji Hattori must uncover enough of their nefarious plot before time runs out and find out if there is something far more sinister to their plot.

The Lost Ship in the Sky provides examples of:

  • Big Bad: Seeming freelance writer Takamichi Fujioka is the ringleader of the mercenary group posing as the Red Siamese Cats.
  • Call-Back: The previous film and its events are mentioned.
    • Ran notes that Kaito Kid has disguised himself as Shin’ichi Kudo before.
  • "Die Hard" on an X: It's Die Hard...on a blimp! Even to the fact that the fake bioterrorism plot and airship hijacking is to disguise the actual goal, which is to steal valuable Buddha statues in Nara City.
  • Handsome Lech: With Depending on the Writer taking effect, this is what Kaito Kid becomes. He’s still a Gentleman Thief like usual, but he’s willing to exploit his resemblance to Shin’ichi Kudo to attempt (and fail) to steal a kiss from Ran and to grope her butt.
  • Immediate Sequel: This is set not long after the previous film, Detective Conan Film 13: The Raven Chaser.
  • Kick the Dog: When Cat-M discovers Haibara is communicating to Conan with her Detective Boys badge, she immediately seizes it. However she proceeds to slap Haibara to the ground which was unnecessary and pointlessly cruel.
  • The Plague: Everyone eventually believes that a rumored plague has made its way onto the blimp and was infecting passengers, but in reality it was a hoax by Takamichi Fujioka and conpany.
  • Thrown Out the Airlock: After revealing he disarmed the initial bombs, the Red Siamese Cat leader throws Conan out of the blimp’s window in frustration.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Cat-M slaps Haibara to the ground after she confiscates her badge.
    • The terrorist leader immediately throws Conan out of the window of a blimp hundreds of feet in the air.
    • In the finale, Fujioka shoots Conan above his left eye and on his right arm with his pistol.
