The Raven Chaser provides examples of:

  • Advertised Extra: The Black Organization play a role throughout the film and make up the climax, but for the bulk of the film they are not really there.
  • Big Bad: Kazuki Honjou ultimately was behind the various murders and even attempted to guilt Mizutani into taking the blame and committing suicide. However he is beaten unconscious by the Black Organization Agent Irish who takes over his role as the main antagonist. And then he's promptly disposed of by Gin and associates, who takes over for the final confrontation in the film.
  • Big Damn Heroes: After being exposed as the true culprit, Honjou deduces that Conan came alone and attempts to kill him with his knife. Superintendent Matsumoto appears and disarms him with his gun. Except it's not Matsumoto at all...
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Despite his poising of him being this franchise’s Inciting Incident, a career criminal like Gin cannot recall who Shin’ichi Kudo even is.
Gin: I’ve done away with a lot of people. How could I possibly remember them all?
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Honjou is usurped as the film’s Big Bad by Irish then the Black Organization themselves.
  • Dodge the Bullet: When held at gunpoint by Irish, Ran chuckles because she realizes she can dodge a bullet from a pistol. She is correct.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Conan won’t permanently stop the Black Organization or even find out their identities and they will not discover his.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Inverted. Unlike the main series so far, Conan remembers he can use his glasses to eavesdrop and listens in to the police conference at the beginning of the movie.
  • From Bad to Worse: Matsumoto handily defeats Honjou who made an attempt on Conan’s life but Conan accidentally used his sole tranquillizing dart on Mizutani. Unfortunately, Matsumoto turned out to be Irish, an agent of the Black Organization.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Honjou Nakao was thought to have been pushed out of a packed elevator in a burning building and left for dead. In reality, she was a Nice Girl who let everyone else go on ahead at the cost of her own life.
  • Non-Protagonist Resolver: Irish, the film’s true antagonist goes up against Ran then Conan but he is ultimately done in by Chanti.
  • Rank Up: Yamamura was promoted to the rank off Inspector before the events of the film, to both Kogoro and Conan’s disbelief.
  • Save the Villain: Despite what Irish had done to Ran and himself, when he is shot the first time by Chianti, Conan attempts to get Irish to safety.
  • Taking the Bullet: Megure takes a stab from Minoru’s girlfriend Risa to protect Detective Uehara and states to Yamato that he couldn’t let another officer get hurt in his prefecture.
    • In the film’s climax, Irish uses his dying body to shield Conan from Chianti’s bullets.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Honjou chides that Mizutani ultimately lacked the courage to kill those behind Nanako’s death, Conan promptly calls him out.
    Conan: That isn’t courage! It’s merely self-satisfaction!
  • Villain's Dying Grace: Irish repays the favor Conan gave him with his life and tells him to not give up defeating the Black Organization.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Honjou attempts to murder Conan when he is exposed. He fails, but his assailant Irish (disguised as Matsumoto) does deliver an off-screen Curb-Stomp Battle to physically 7-year-old Conan.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Irish knocks out Detective Uehara (along with everyone else) and doesn’t hold back against Ran during their fight.
