Fansville is an advertising campaign for Dr Pepper that portrays a city where (mostly) everyone is a fan of State's football team. Despite the supposed idyllic existence, there's still trouble afoot. The Fansville series of commercials are an omnipresent part of any weekend of watching college football.
Fansville contains examples of:
- As Himself: USC quarterback Caleb Williams transfers to State in the 2023 campaign.
- The Cameo: Several examples, including:
- Brian Bosworth as the town sheriff
- Eddie George as a doctor
- Les Miles as the one who stole the Playoff trophy
- Ray Wise as a ticket seller
- New Name-Image-Likeness regulations allowed USC quarterback (and 2022 Heisman Trophy winner) Caleb Williams to feature in 2023 ads.
- Career-Ending Injury: The Grillmaster suffers a sprained arm, leaving him unable to grill.
- Cranky Neighbors: Who moves into Fansville? Referees. And they're flagging everything.
- Experimented in College: Played for laughs. The whole experimenting in college was not risqué behavior or les/bi flings... The mom drank other sodas.
- Like Father, Unlike Son: The main couple's son doesn't like football and doesn't want to go to State. Instead, he decides to go to Coastal (which doesn't even have football) and play lacrosse.note The next season, he returns to visit his parents only to find that they have adopted State's star quarterback as their own.
- Porn Stash: The main couple catches their son with soccer magazines under his mattress. Played for laughs.
- Shout-Out: The end of the 2021 campaign sees the characters experience an existential crisis as they worry about what happens to them during the "off season." The camera switches to the outside of the house then zooms out to reveal that Fansville is inside a snow globe.
- Show Within the Show: The commercial that plays right after one of the State fans finally is able to log on to his streaming service is "Fanstown presented by Dr Pepper."
- Staging an Intervention: Inverted. The sheriff, the husband of the main couple and The Grillmaster's wife intervene because The Grillmaster isn't distraught after State's devastating season-ending loss.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: A young woman from Fansville falls in love with a young man who happens to be Tech's mascot. Later, another couple has to break up when Tech moves to a different conference due to realignment.
- Stock Scream: When Face Paint Guy falls into an open manhole, the Wilhelm Scream plays.
- The Rival: "Tech."
- Wedding Episode: The Grillmaster and his girl get married. Joe Theismann is present as the color commentator and events such as the bouquet toss and garter toss get extra competitive.
