Der Film Part 3: One Last Chance

Before I begin, here's a public service announcement. If you'd like to leave a comment on a liveblog, DO NOT include any apostrophes in your message, or it will fail to show up. Apparently, the admins have not gotten around to fixing this mistake, possibly because of how few people comment on liveblogs these days.

Suddenly, Miho sees something- a sign for a Boko museum. She's incredibly excited to see Boko, and after a bit of fooling around with the animatronic, who's apparently as weak as Italy's 10th Army, they notice that no one's there. They go on some rides and watch Boko getting beaten up by other animals, at which point Miho and another girl cheer him on. Boko summons all his strength and the power given to him by his fans... and goes down in one hit. Miho has to explain to everyone else that the fact that Boko loses is apparently the main selling point for the character.

Inside the gift shop, Miho sees what's apparently the last Boko, but she's told that it's only a selling strategy (That said, since no one's around to restock or even ring it up, one has to wonder). Of course, the mysterious girl also believes it, too, and both her and Miho make a grab for it at the same time. Miho lets go first, promising to come back later (although given her circumstances, it seems less likely for her to come back at all). Saori accuses the girl of being an Ungrateful Bitch when she leaves without saying thanks, but Miho says she's just shy.

Anzu meets with the MEXT official (whose name is Tsuji Kota), and her first argument- that he promised- falls flat, since he also falls back on the "It was only a verbal promise" bit, but this time, Anzu cites Japanese law in favor of it. Tsuji, while doing a Gendo Ikari-like pose, claims that he did all he could, apparently forcing Anzu to concede.

Momo gives orders to students regarding the various supplies, and Yuzu's a bit impressed that Momo's not crying, irritating Momo. Momo reiterates her belief that now is the time to do what she can and believe in the president.

Anzu and Ami meet with another official, who says that by changing their mind now, they'd lose face, but Ami insists that it would go against the nation's encouragement of tankery. Anzu insists that they can't accept this, but the official says his and MEXT's hands are tied. Ami then proposes a "pivot turn."

Miho then travels home (for those who don't know, she lives in the city and prefecture of Kumamoto, which is some distance from Ibaraki) and waits at the gates of her home until her sister, who's walking a dog, arrives, welcoming her home and saying she can come back without worrying. Maho tells Shiho that she has a friend from school over, and Shiho doesn't even bother to look. Miho hands Maho the document, and while Maho leaves, Miho looks around her old room. Maho returns, and Miho's surprised to see their mother's signature on it, showing that apparently, Maho forged it. As Miho rides back in a tank, she recalls her childhood with Maho, such as riding a tank together, Maho giving her a "winner" stick, and falling off the tank together. It's a touching montage of scenes that nicely show that the sisters do, in fact, care for each other.

After getting a visit from Ami, Shiho tells Tsuji that they also need to train amateurs in order to raise up pros, and she wants Black Forest to beat Oarai. When Tsuji tries to dismiss Oarai's victory as luck, Shiho slams her glass down on the table and says that there's no luck in tankery, only skill (quite characteristic of someone who favors Training from Hell), forcefully enough to intimidate Tsuji, and asks him what would make him accept them. Anzu then makes him agree that winning against the University Team will let him reopen Oarai, giving him a signed form so that he can't weasel his way out of it this time.

At the Shimada estate, Shiho receives congratulations from Chiyo Shimada, her fellow tankery instructor, and reveals that she decided to come here to let her know about the plan.

Elsewhere, some girls are doing a tankery match, and praise the "ninja-like" tankery skills of the Shimada heiress, who turns out to be the girl from earlier. Alice reveals that she has a show recording, but reassures her subordinates that nothing is wrong. She then gets a phone call from her mother, asking her to destroy the name of the Nishizumi style, apparently going down the same road as manyOCs in GuP fanfics with a vendetta against the Nishizumi style. Alice agrees, but on one condition- that her mother sponsor the Boko museum, knowing that if things continue as they are, it will close down. Her mother agrees, although the wording makes it sound a bit ambivalent, and Alice thanks her, promising to save Boko.

Back at Oarai's new school, Momo hauls a cart full of stuff that's almost twice as tall and several times as heavy as she is... which proceeds to fall on her. She emerges from the pile to see Anzu, and breaks down in tears and hugs her. Yuzu holds a special announcement (with Momo crying in the background, something Rabbit Team notices), summoning everyone from the tankery team. With almost everyone there, Mako goes to get Mallard Team, appealing to Sodoko's sense of duty as head of the morals committee. With everyone assembled, the student council announces a match with the University Strengthened Team (prompting an Oh Crap! reaction from Miho and Yukari, the two who know the team's strength), and promises that if they win, they'll take back the school. Caesar's understandably a bit skeptical (possibly in light of how the Student Council kept this from them the first time), while Noriko's more hopeful, but Anzu says that it's true, even if it will be a tough batttle. Everyone cheers, even the lethargic Mako, and Yukari tries to get Miho to cheer up.

Momo once again gets discouraged after hearing that Alice and her team won against adults. Miho recognizes the commander as the girl she saw before, and she's introduced as Alice Shimada, meaning that the fight is between the Nishizumi and Shimada styles (of course, as has been the case since Little Army, Miho is not and never has been an orthodox Nishizumi style practitioner). Everyone has another Oh Crap! reaction when Miho reveals that they're fielding 30 tanks, and Momo loses all hope. Miho agrees that things seem hopeless, but doesn't think it's impossible.

Of course, that's until things go From Bad to Worse and Tsuji announces that it's an annihilation match, since that's supposedly the norm in pro leagues, and the only alternative he offers is withdrawal. The night before the match, Anzu admits that she's putting a lot of pressure on Miho, and considers withdrawing, but Miho won't hear it, since even if things are tough, that's always been the case for them, they have their comrades. Yet another montage of pre-battle relaxation follows, from playing video games (Hippo Team), to training (Anteater Team), to ironing uniforms (Mallard Team), to watching movies (Rabbit Team), to looking through parts (Leopon Team). Of course, as they say this, Oarai's former opponents are on the way.

Next Installment: The largest scale tankery match yet begins.

Oh so that is why I cannot see my comment. Sad to hear that your ending the liveblog but I understand your reasons why. Besides, the translators are kinda lagging behind on doing the Gu P manga for a while. Anyway, I just said on that unseen comment that the dates you said are Saori(June 22) and Mako(September 1) birth dates and not date of issuance of their Tank driving license. The date August 10 is for issuance date of Amateur Radio Operator license of Saori different from the tank driving license seen in the scene.

The one that Ami and Anzu talked to was the director of Japan Senshado Federation, Shichiro Kodama. His name, Tsuji Kota, and Chiyo Shimada are on the document of agreement shown by Anzu.

Jamibu,

Thanks for the directors name and the information on the dates. It might have been nice if someone mentioned Tsujis name at some point, since he went from being someone who appeared in a single scene of the anime to being the villain of sorts and the reason for over 75 percent of the film.

I also thank you for taking the time to comment again, and being a regular commentator- not many people seem to comment on liveblogs these days.
