It actually means "partner", but not necessarily in a sexual way, so he wasn't far off the mark. The real humor is in the fact Yami (in the original Japanese and [[GratuitousJapanese far too many fanfics]]) refers to Yugi as this.

* EverythingsBetterWithPenguins:
** Subverted at the end of episode 46; when 4Kids is discussing how to take care of the cast now that the series [[spoiler:has been "cancelled,"]] Crump suggests "Death by Penguins!" Noah goes on to remark "Hm... all of these are very good ideas, very good ideas indeed, except for yours, Crump, that was dumb and so are you."
** In Episode 49, we get to see Crump in person, and it turns out that he is, in fact, a human-sized penguin wearing a tuxedo. Crump loves penguins in ''every'' way possible, and when he was a kid he practically worshiped penguins. He professes to Tea that he [[BestialityIsDepraved loooves penguins!]] [[SubvertedTrope Platonically.]] ''[[DoubleSubversion And]]'' [[DoubleSubversion physically!]]

* AluminumChristmasTrees:
** ''Who's That Mokémon?'' parodies the classic "Who's That Pokémon?" EyeCatch from ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'', but what you may not know is that the show itself did this several times, sometimes even showcasing ''human'' characters that looked weird enough to be 'mon. (Of course, most of these were removed by the 4Kids dub, probably in the name of making the Eyecatches more one-to-one with [[MerchandiseDriven the Merch]].)
** Team 4Kids being the Big Five seems like just another iteration of the RunningGag against one of the Internet's favourite punching bags, but in fact, [[TakeThatUs 4Kids did it to themselves first]] as [[{{Tuckerization}} their names were inspired by various people in the company]].

Highlights include Mai turning evil because she got pissed at being treated like a one-note breast joke and constantly being insulted as a terrible duelist despite her off-screen dueling record, Rafael being a NoNonsenseNemesis who actually plays the card game as intended despite Yami Yugi's insistence that it's only an excuse to make jokes, and Rex and Weevil getting beat up because people no longer found reference jokes funny (before the Orichalcos retconned their personalities, they were essentially ''WesternAnimation/BeavisAndButthead''). But the ultimate example is the Abridged take on the Dartz's BreakingSpeech. At first, he taunts Yami Yugi with memories of his time as Pharaoh like his canon counterpart, but he then reveals he doesn't even need to bring up his past, because his present life as an UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist who treats his friends like dirt is enough evidence of humanity's wickedness. It's a reminder to the fans that all this time, they've laughed off his actions or even cheered him on for [[PoliticallyIncorrectHero saying things that would be repulsive in real life]], with the implicit excuse that this was supposed to be a GagSeries [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome where nothing had any real consequences anyway]].
