* UncertainAudience: Even Nintendo seemed really unsure of who the game was for, or even what the game was supposed to be. It's somewhere between a rhythm game (the most obvious assumption), a composition software (a big aspect that got played up was using the Wii to replace traditional musical instruments), and a teaching tool or gateway to proper instruments (it's flooded with musical facts and the presentation and songlist is clearly aimed at a young audience). For rhythm game fans, it's too freeform to offer a challenge and doesn't have any good songs, for an erstwhile composer, it's imprecise and the presentation makes it impossible to use seriously, and while younger audiences might get a kick out of it for a bit, the control scheme is too far removed from the actual instruments for the game to really function as a teaching tool beyond the most basic level.

* TaintedByThePreview: Regardless of how people look at the game, ''Wii Music'' will always be associated with Nintendo's infamous E3 2008 showing of said game where [[ThisIsGoingToBeHuge they tried to push the game as the Wii's "killer app"]], alienating fans who were hoping to see a new ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' or ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'' game. On top of that, the presentation for this game was about as cringe-worthy as it came, featuring a very off-beat rendition of the Mario theme song played by presenters who were playing their enjoyment up ''way'' too much. [[OldShame Satoru Iwata eventually issued a public apology a few days after the conference]], explaining that Nintendo was trying to experiment with their conference presentations.

* OvershadowedByControversy: {{Narm}}: The infamous E3 reveal for this game wasn't meant to be taken seriously to begin with, but when you're putting presenters in suits and ties pretending to jam out...to the ''Mario theme song'' of all things, and said playback of it is completely off-sync and botched, you better believe everyone promptly laughed them out of the room.

Never Live It Down is for characters, They Wasted A Perfectly Good Plot is renamed and a stretch of the definition

* NeverLiveItDown: The game's showcase at E3 2008 remains one of the most infamous cases of Nintendo, or any gaming company being tone-deaf.

* [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot They Wasted A Perfectly Good Game Idea]]: Imagine how much better the game could've been if instead of using mostly public domain music, it was a collection of various Nintendo tracks.

Only applies to characters.

* TheScrappy: This has become the most hated game on the Wii, even more so than ''VideoGame/WiiFit''.
** It also did not help that ''EGM'' had given the game a very high rating, despite everyone else giving lower scores.
** As well as the "big game" of the Nintendo's E3 2008 conference. Audiences were less than impressed by the presentation.

Complaining About Shows You Dont Watch is now only about the In Universe usage. Its usage as an Audience Reaction is being removed, as well as usage in criticism on work pages, which is inappropriate regardless.
