** Mostly with Music/{{Mushroomhead}} fans. There's one particularly notorious incident while Slipknot were supporting Music/CoalChamber on their 1999 ''Livin' La Vida Loco'' tour, where they went out to perform in Cleveland, and a bunch of Mushroomhead fans were waiting for them. Said fans proceeded to throw things at the band, including a padlock right at Paul Grey's face. The band - plus members of Amen and Music/MachineHead, who were also on the bill - got into it with those fans physically as soon as the set was over, until the cops broke it up. Adding fuel to the fire was Mushroomhead vocalist Jeff Hatrix, who admitted he helped orchestrate the incident. All that being said, ever since the death of Paul Grey, this feud has simmered down.

** ''Jay.'' ''Weinberg.'' He's either the kick in the ass that the band needed after years of increasingly poor performances from Joey, or he's a hack playing way above his ability level who got in solely because of his connections and whose energy and theatricality can't make up for his grossly inconsistent playing. People have warmed up to him over time, however, between the revelations about why Joey left (which also explained his steadily declining performances) and Jay's own massive improvements as a drummer and development of a style that is faithful to Joey's, but has his own touch, rather than just trying to copy Joey in every way. Especially from Music/AgainstMe fans, as Laura Jane Grace responded to rumors about him joining by sarcastically wishing the band good luck, and indicating he was hard to work with.

* AcceptableTargets: Music/MachineGunKelly [[https://consequence.net/2021/09/machine-gun-kelly-slipknot-feud-timeline-corey-taylor/ became Public Enemy No. 1]] among the Maggots in 2021 with a thinly-veiled crack about being "50 years old wearing a weird fucking mask" and a public claim that Corey recorded a "fucking terrible" verse for his album that he turned down, although Corey responded with emails indicating that he simply turned down the spot. Following this, aside from the online backlash, recordings of MGK's shows featured instances of mass booing, heckling, objects being thrown at him, and even him getting into physical altercations. There are also multiple fan recordings of Slipknot shows containing a ''massive'' "fuck MGK!" audience chant.

* WinTheCrowd: Jay Weinberg was initially widely disliked by the fanbase; while plenty of it had to do with "not Joey", quite a bit of it was also aimed at his performances on ''The Gray Chapter'' (which were generally regarded as a particularly weak link in an already weak album) and his extremely inconsistent and often sloppy live performances. As the years went on, Jay made serious and noticeable improvements to his playing, especially his ability to sustain kick rolls and stay clean on higher tempos, while his cultivation of a playing style that was recognizably his own instead of trying to emulate Joey's most obvious stylistic hallmarks made his performance on ''We Are Not Your Kind'' one that was infinitely better received.

* LighterAndSofter: All Hope Is Gone is this, according to Slipknot-standards, at least. It's undoubtedly their most mainstream-sounding album to date. It's also their first album to include tracks without any screaming vocals, including the ballads 'Snuff' and 'Till we Die', which are definitely way softer than any of their previous work.

** It's an AscendedMeme now. Corey Taylor's current wife, as of March 2021, has "the one who has to hear what Corey Taylor thinks the most" in her Twitter bio.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: The treatment Alessandro and Jay are getting from the band. The band ''aren't'' too happy with the two being replacements of Paul or Joey, Crahan in particular saying [[BrutalHonesty bluntly in an interview "This is Slipknot, fuck both of those guys. ... They'll never be in the band. Never."]] Ouch. It has ''however'' been pointed out that the reason the band (Corey and Crahan ''especially'') are hard on the two is because it's part of a quote/unquote "hazing" to see how they can handle being in the band before actually confirming them as true members. Considering [[ToughActToFollow who Jay and Alessandro are replacing]], it's understandable the band doesn't want to immediately give them Joey and Paul's numbers, being #1 and #2. In the end, they were given letters instead of numbers to solve this problem.

* AwardSnub: The 2003 Grammy awards nominated both Slipknot and Stone Sour in the Best Metal Performance category for "My Plague" and "Get Inside" respectively, giving Taylor and Root a 2/5 chance of taking home an award. Music/{{Korn}} won that night (Slipknot won three years later for "Before I Forget" while Stone Sour is one of the most nominated bands without a win in the category's history).

** Over the shift away from their nu-metal beginnings. On that topic, is ''.5: The Gray Chapter'' NuMetal, or no?
** Jordison's departure from the band and Grey's death also broke the fanbase quite a bit. Jordison and Grey wrote a good chunk of the band's best material and some are worried that the rest of the band won't be able to match up to their song writing.

** The album ''Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.'' The band themselves basically ignores its existence, now considering it a demo album while at the time they considered it a full debut album, and have re-recorded or reworked most of the songs, but it, along with early Slipknot in general, has a small but dedicated fanbase, some of whom actually consider it better than what came after.
** The band's reputation suffered this again following Chris Fehn was fired from the band and began to sue them over royalty disputes (alongside Donnie Steele, who was a touring member for the band following Paul Gray's passing), making fans wonder if the band has been falling apart ''due'' to the aforementioned passing of Paul. OF course, those who've followed from the beginning might be very well aware that Slipknot have been having numerous fights within itself for years now even before Subliminal Verses; and the passing of Paul could've been what's started to knock the house of cards down.

* FaceOfTheBand:
** Jordison, Wilson, and Taylor mostly...which is sort of {{iron|y}}ic given their schtick.
** With Jordison out, Taylor, Wilson, Root, and Crahan fit this role now.

* HarsherInHindsight: Clown admitted that one of the reasons he dislikes the name ''All Hope Is Gone'' was because it was unintentional {{foreshadowing}} of bassist Paul Gray's drug and depression-induced suicide two years after it was released.
** The music video for "Before I Forget," which features unmasked ([[TheUnreveal but obscured]]) members playing near their masks hung up. Paul Gray and Joey Jordison's masks are hung up together, unintentionally foreshadowing them being the first two members to pass away, in 2010 and 2021 respectively.

* HiddenDepths: Corey Taylor once made a credible appearance as a guest on ''Series/{{QI}}'', proving to be both knowledgable and possessed of an excellent, dry wit.

** The hidden track "Porn and Weed" on ''Slipknot'', in which [[spoiler:the band is recording themselves watching a scat porn video]], including [[NauseaFuel at least one member throwing up]]. This may also [[CrossesTheLineTwice Cross the Line Twice]] for some, especially due to some of the comments the guys make.

** The [[http://www.nme.com/news/slipknot/51244 live press conference]] held by the remaining eight members of the band the day after Gray's death. Listening to Jordison, Taylor, Crahan, and Wilson hold back tears as they spoke of how much they loved their fallen brother was insanely hard. Worse yet was when Thomson, upon being passed the mic, [[HeroicBSOD stared at the table in utter silence for a few moments before passing the microphone on down]].
** An episode of [=NY Ink=] had Taylor getting a tattoo in memory of Gray and he spends the entire time bawling his eyes out to his wife about how much he missed his friend and wishes he was still here, all while his wife tells him Paul's always been with him.
** Joey's removal from the band. Many felt it was a KickTheDog moment for the band kicking out their drummer and mixed with the fact Joey was turning MusicIsPolitics, but becomes more depressing, if it a heartwarming that Joey's true reasoning behind his removal was due to the fact he suffers from transverse myelitis, which is causing him to lose usage of his legs and the band taking the heat of his removal to protect his secret.

** Particularly Jordison. It was eventually revealed he was fired for suspicion of substance abuse, but in reality he was sick with a neurological condition called transverse myelitis, which affects the spinal cord.

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: "Dogfish Rising". Clearly the result of boredom while recording ''[[CanonDiscontinuity Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.]]'' Half the band switches instruments, and clearly whoever is playing bass isn't as good at it as Paul was.
