* EvilIsSexy:
** Kevin Crocker, as played by [[http://wpmedia.arts.nationalpost.com/2012/05/gross.jpg%3Fw%3D620 Paul Gross]]. Oof. Subverted a bit in that he isn't exactly evil, just... well, he's always on his own side and not exactly the most moral of folks.
** Alicia (Saul's protegée). TheBaroness and DarkActionGirl with a supermodel's looks to boot.

* IdiotPlot: The episode "Blood Work" is full of such holes, as Jake acts surprised when Leslie tells him she's undercover even though Hood showed Jake the file (did he think she'd just suddenly become a druggie?) and then Leslie provides an alibi for Taylor by saying she'd been watching him all day... except if that were the case, wouldn't she have known about Taylor kidnapping and torturing Jake? Even if she chose not to blow her cover by rescuing him, she shouldn't have been surprised to see his marked up face.

* SpecialEffectsFailure: A couple of times in season five in particular, the usage of a green screen during some stunts is very obvious, and pay close attention to when Jake is talking on his iPhone - you can tell it's on the home screen or actually locked (you can see the white "slide to unlock" bar, if it were in call mode, there would be a red "hang up/end call" button instead).

* BaldOfEvil: Big Charlie the biker, although he's got short hair again as of season five.

* EarWorm: The theme song. You might find yourself singing "Oh yeah-ee-yeah-ee-yeah-ee-yeah" for a while after you've seen a few episodes.

* AwesomeMusic: This show has it in spades, from the theme song (Great Big Sea's "Oh, Yeah") to the songs used in the episodes.

* LoveItOrHateIt: People usually decide it's either a funny, interesting and escapist show, or an over-acted unfunny mess.

** Now, er, sunk, due to [[spoiler:it being blown up in the season three finale]].
*** [[spoiler:Perhaps not since Des has been able to covertly secure the remains of Jake's [=GTO=] in order to have them repaired to working condition.]]
*** [[spoiler: Malachy has it restored to perfection by the time Jake returns in season five.]]

* RetroactiveRecognition: Why is [[Film/PacificRim Hercules Hansen]] dressed as a biker and trying to kill Jake? Guess losing Chuck must have hit him harder than we thought.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Tinny. As mentioned below, she was a right little arse in the beginning, but once she started training to become a cop, she became a lot more mature and responsible.
* TheScrappy: Tinny (to some - also qualified initially as {{the load}}). Has grown/dealt marijuana (which could have landed Jake/Malachy in ''serious'' trouble if she'd been caught), is a completely manipulative witch to Mal, Rose and Jake in the beginning (who are all honestly trying to help), blatantly uses Des, finally gets a chance to go to England and [[spoiler:seems to have just thrown it away]], etc.
** Subverted a bit in that she actually ''did'' go to England, she [[spoiler:just couldn't crack it and came back.]]
*** She also got very {{tsundere}} over Des' relationship with Chandra, eventually culminating in his [[spoiler:breaking up with her]], and is showing hints of {{yandere}}-ness. Thankfully, she's been RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap as of season four.
** Des as well. He can come across as a bit creepy (he absolutely worships Jake and even wore his pants for a while), and his habit of inappropriate babbling (while other characters look on uncomfortably) can be grating to some.
** Sloan. She's been getting a lot of hate from fans lately who feel she's taking over the show. She came out of nowhere, was revealed to be [[spoiler:Jake's daughter - although it turns out she was simply conning him]], is gorgeous, smart, sarcastic... One reviewer commented that the show seemed to be becoming "Republic of Sloan". There are also complaints that she seems to be the ReplacementScrappy to Tinny, as she shares a lot of similarities to Tinny in the early seasons. [[spoiler:Fans were also unhappy as to how her arc ended - see AssPull above.]]

* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Des.
* TheWoobie: Pretty much all the main characters have had moments like this.

* ComeForTheXStayForTheY: Come for the rare portrayal of Newfoundlanders as something other than toothless idiots, and stay for the surprisingly good writing and character dynamics.

* RetroactiveRecognition: Why is [[PacificRim Hercules Hansen]] dressed as a biker and trying to kill Jake? Guess losing Chuck must have hit him harder than we thought.

** Leslie breaking down after [[spoiler:she ends things with Callum.]]
** [[spoiler:Jake and Rose racing to get Malachy (who's been shot) to the hospital. Even the weather is grim and dismal. The moment after Malachy gasps that he loves Rose (and always will) is just ''heartbreaking''. Rose looks absolutely terrified and begs Jake to hurry. Thank ''God'' Malachy got better.]]
** The end of season five has the entire Doyle family [[spoiler: broke thanks to Sloan robbing them]], and Jake [[spoiler: digging possibly dead Leslie out of a grave, and subsequently arrested for killing one of her exes]]. All while "Say Something" one of the most heartbreaking songs of the year, plays in the background.
** In season six, Sloan admitting [[spoiler:that she's been conning the Doyles and that she isn't actually Jake's daughter.]]

* FanDumb: Oh ''so much'' after the announcement that the show would be ending. Some fans went on huge diatribes against the [=CBC=] for "cancelling" the show and even blaming Prime Minister Stephen Harper... Even though Allan Hawco released a statement saying that it had been ''his'' idea to end the show (due to realizing he was running out of ideas and wanting to let the show go out before it went stale).

** Sloan. She's been getting a lot of hate from fans lately who feel she's taking over the show. She came out of nowhere, was revealed to be [[spoiler:Jake's daughter]], is gorgeous, smart, sarcastic... One reviewer commented that the show seemed to be becoming "Republic of Sloan". There are also complaints that she seems to be the DistaffCounterpoint to Tinny, as she shares a lot of similarities to Tinny in the early seasons.
