Condensed the "values dissonance" example to one bullet point.

* ValuesDissonance: Stan/Loretta is heavily implied to be {{Transsexual}} and although she [[FairForItsDay lacks many of the offensive stereotypes associated with transwomen,]] [[QueerPeopleAreFunny the fact that her being transgender is largely played for laughs,]] [[DudeNotFunny especially when she laments about being unable to have a child]] would not fly today considering the greater awareness of transgender people.

The fact that [[Music/TheBeatles ex-Beatle]] Music/GeorgeHarrison came forth after the studio canned the film, set up an entire production company, paid the Pythons a few million pounds, and let them do whatever they wanted. Why? Because he was a huge Python fan and wanted to see their next movie.

Brian is not a hero. That\'s the point.

* BrokenBase: People are split as to whether this or ''Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail'' is the better movie (most would agree that ''[[Film/MontyPythonsTheMeaningOfLife Meaning of Life]]'' falls just shy of that honor). All three are considered good movies, however.

** This is a film that still remains controversial. Some people assume it's a parody of Jesus, who is actually just a very minor character in the film. Others claim the film mocks Christianity, while it can also be interpreted as mocking religion or blindly fanatical followers in general, for that matter. In a sense it also spoofs the typically heavy handed and deadly serious Bible epics. Some very devout religious people condemn the film for being blasphemous without having seen it. Some religious people who did watch it act as if this movie doesn't mock Jesus, Christianity or religion at all, which is again not totally true either. There are several very outrageous heretical scenes that could easily offend people who take their faith too seriously, but religious people with a sense of humour can enjoy the film just fine. The movie is also more than just a shocking comedy. It raises excellent points about blindly following leaders, misinterpreting so-called signs and messages and not thinking for yourself.

* DesignatedHero: Brian to a tee. He does next to nothing that could be considered noble, often being bossed around by his mother, the Romans or anyone else with authority. He only joined the People's Front of Judea because he fancied Judith and his status as Messiah and liberator of the Jews was all an accident that got blown out of proportion. His mother's most famous line could not be more true.

** Subverted, however, when "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" starts up, which is such a happily optimistic song that it somehow manages to make the crucifixion of the main character and a whole load of other people really cheery.

* {{Woolseyism}}: The Swedish sub somehow manages to make the "Romanes eunt domum" scene even funnier by having the Centurion translate Brian's original botched Latin as "The Romanians go to the house [[note]]slang for "go to the bathroom"[[/note]]".

** [[DullSurprise "...you lucky bastard!"]]

** Soooo could it be called a [[IncrediblyLamePun Big Lipped Alien Moment]]?
** Some have speculated that it may be a reference to the {{conspiracy theor|y}}ies regarding [=UFOs=] popping up in the backgrounds of paintings of Christ. Given the amazing amount of research done it's plausible, but doesn't seem to be the case.
** I thought this was a reference to some of the weirder stuff the Mormons believe in.
** My personal interpretation is that the "Star of David" seen flying across the sky in the opening of the film is actually the alien ship.

Complaining About Shows You Dont Watch is now only about the In Universe usage. Its usage as an Audience Reaction is being removed, as well as usage in criticism on work pages, which is inappropriate regardless.

* ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch: Anyone who protested the film over mocking Jesus.
** A few ministers said that Brian was supposed to be Jesus. They had come into the theater late and missed the first fifteen minutes, which establish that Jesus exists in this universe as a separate person from Brian.
** Even if Brian ''was'' Jesus, the charge that they were mocking him doesn't really stick -- Brian is the OnlySaneMan.
* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: A meta example. When several members of the various clergies in Britain started targeting the film, John Cleese and Michael Palin went on air to be interviewed and to debate regarding the controversy. When two smug priests begin bashing the film [[ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch over things that don't happen]], both Cleese and Palin [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl8acXl3qVs&channel=lowcoststart tear into them]]. This is particularly notable in that ''[[BewareTheNiceOnes Palin]]'' is doing the verbal smackdown, as Cleese noted years later.
