** Deliberately invoked by "Exhausted," the last track of the debut album. Dave ended the song with a slow fadeout over a repetitive riff intending for the riff to keep going in the listener's head.
* EpicRiff: The talk box intro of "Generator". "Everlong". "All My Life". "Stacked Actors". "Hey, Johnny Park!". "Rope" and the ever popular "Best Of You".

** It should be noted, however, that the Nirvana B Side "Marigold" was a Grohl composition that featured him on vocals, Grohl had already written and demoed most of the first album songs in 1992, and he had also released a self-released cassette album called Pocketwatch by Late!. However, these would have been of minimal interest beyond the most obsessive member, but if Nirvana had stayed, it's possible Grohl might have broken out on his own anyway, given his various abilities.
* BrokenBase: After the band refused to let their songs be featured on ''Series/{{Glee}}'', their fandom experienced mild turmoil over whether or not it was a good thing.

** Whilst they sell many records and play arenas in their native US, their popularity there is nothing compared to that in the UK, where in recent years they have sold out massive outdoor shows in minutes, months in advance. By Dave's own admission, the UK treats them like they are "the biggest band in the world", and while he can walk around cities like Los Angeles largely unrecognized, he gets mobbed on the streets in the UK.
** This also applies to the song 'Wheels' according to Dave who has mentioned on several occasions that apparently Germany is the only country where they can play the song with the crowd singing along. While most American crowds tend to be bored and most Asian crowds not to be bothered with it.
** Their reputation in America has a tendency to be "That one band the drummer of {{Music/Nirvana}} made." with a certain group of people. This isn't to say that a lot of people know them on their own, but several people basically think of them this way.
