** While most of the Animated Canon characters are from either recent releases or beloved classics, there are some more obscure picks in there like WesternAnimation/RobinHood1973, WesternAnimation/TheSwordInTheStone, WesternAnimation/TheEmperorsNewGroove, WesternAnimation/TheGreatMouseDetective, WesternAnimation/Disney, and WesternAnimation/Bolt. In partucular, WesternAnimation/AtlantisTheLostEmpire, WesternAnimation/TreasurePlanet, and WesternAnimation/TheBlackCauldron; while Cult Classics, are notorious flops that almost never get referenced by Disney. On the live-action side, Film/TheRocketeer and Film/HocusPocus are similar cases of having a cult fandom but not being part of a huge franchise the same way that Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean and Franchise/TRON are. (And while WesternAnimation/ABugsLife is likewise a less-known part of Pixar's library, that's more understandable since there aren't many more Pixar films left to include!)

** In the same vein as the Muppets, Darkwing stuck out for being the only TV character in the game for some time until the [=DuckTales=] heroes came along. More than that, both sets of characters are explicitly WesternAnimation/TheDisneyAfternoon versions when you'd expect the game to draw on the current ones from WesternAnimation/DuckTales2017 instead. Additionally, another character from Darkwing Duck was later added in as well, and it was Megavolt, one of the show's villains.

** Most Disney crossovers tend to leave the TV shows out of having major representation, at most only acknowledging shows connected to the extended Mickey & Friends universe. So to see characters from original-IP shows like WesternAnimation/Gargoyles, WesternAnimation/KimPossible, and WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb added to the game is always a pleasant surprise.

City Watch example referenced Heist's unpopularity, but it didn't have its own example yet

Added DiffLines:

** The Heist mode was introduced as a fun real-time multiplayer game, but several aspects of it cause many players to skip it entirely or only play on private mode. Competitive players don't like that, unlike Port and Trials, it hasn't had a difficulty upgrade since Shocking mode, making it trivially easy for anyone with red or yellow heroes. Even people who don't care about that and just want the resources tend to get annoyed with how long it takes to complete, especially on Medium mode (and higher before the introduction of accomplices). Then there are the people who join the Heist only to sit around and do nothing. The ability for the host to kick out others was added to help with this, but still doesn't help if the person doing this is the host, and its rollout led to another problem of occasional hosts kicking active people out for unexplained reasons, sometimes after they had helped them reach the narrowest white circle.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Backlash against the differing Arena rewards at launch was so fierce that the developers gave everyone the same tier, at 500, and reimbursed the missing gems in installments.
** After complaints that the developers were not sufficiently addressing player feedback reached a fever pitch toward the end of 2019, the developers started the new year by promising to interact with the players more and listen to their feedback.
** Over time, the Friendship Campaign/Disk system began to garner complaints that unlocking and advancing Friendship Disks had become entirely too difficult and time-consuming and required too much grinding in order to even unlock them in the first place. In response, the v2.3 update gave the system a massive overhaul to make unlocking and maxing out Friendship Disks much quicker and less cumbersome:
*** Friendship levels and XP were jettisoned completely, with the campaigns and disks now being accessible as soon as you have unlocked both of the characters involved in a friendship rather than both characters having to be at a specific level or rarity and then having to grind Friendship XP to be able to progress through their campaign on top of that.
*** Friendship disks could now be unlocked as early as completing the first episode of their respective Friendship Campaigns and then be usable for the rest of them, alleviating the often frustrating difficulty of the campaigns. Completing campaign episodes now unlocks their star levels and extra memories.
*** Friendship missions to gain memories no longer required up to five heroes in order to run, only the two involved in the friendship (meaning no longer having to wait for other missions to complete in order to run another because one character is already busy with one). Missions also automatically restart (so long as you can stay on top of claiming the rewards from them), no longer require valuable badge bits to run, and will always be successful regardless of your characters' levels (though they will take a significantly shorter amount of time to complete the further leveled up they are).
*** A later patch introduced missions to gain special power-ups to give characters on Friendship Missions, further bringing down the often frustrating difficulty of the missions.
** Three and two star hero chips were removed after a certain point, now allowing all new characters to be unlocked more quickly.
** After they found many players were becoming soft-locked on character promotion due to reinfected areas that were too strong to beat and took too long to become beatable, they removed this feature entirely.

Loads And Loads Of Characters is no longer a trope

* BrokenBase: Are there now too many characters? Some don't mind there being so many characters in the game (especially since the characters span all eras of Disney rather than only the Revival Era or only characters from Cash Cow Franchises, plus you aren't necessarily required to level up all of them) and genuinely look forward to who will be added to the game next. Others find the large amount of characters to be a problem from a gameplay perspective since (especially if you're on an older server and/or a low-spending/free-to-play player) it makes divvying up resources between nearly/more than a hundred characters a hassle and invites a massive amount of PowerCreep (especially for older characters since newer characters are often extremely powerful), something not helped by how there seems to be no end for the character additions in sight.

* TierInducedScrappy: While most characters are still considered to be useful in some form or fashion in the main campaign regardless, when it comes to [=PvP=], some characters have at certain points been seen as more effective (or ineffective) than others:
** High: In general, many characters debut in the game in ridiculously powerful states with few existing characters who can reliably counter them, with later characters often being designed to counter them (or at least their more annoying abilities). That being said, a few characters stand out (or did at one point) among the rest:
*** When he debuted in the game, Olaf was considered to be frigging powerhouse. He has the ability to dodge attacks (multiple times), can recover his own health, and can revive with almost full health when [=KO'd=]. Most of his attacks have the chance to freeze opponents for even longer than Frozone's does, and his energy meter charges up scarily fast (including getting filled almost if not completely back up when reviving), meaning he may be able to use his special again right as his opponents are thawing out. All of this makes for a shockingly formidable opponent who is a nightmare to deal with in fights. PowerCreep has lowered his viability to an extent, but he is still a very good option for [=PvP=] teams (especially teams based around freezing).
*** The Mad Hatter is one of the best control-based characters in the game bar-none. While he's only mildly annoying at White through Green rank, at Blue Rank his trump card is unlocked: The unique ability to charm three enemies at once. If the Mad Hatter is protected well enough and long enough for him to use said attack, you will get to watch as the opposing team (or your team!) potentially completely destroys itself. On top of this, his Purple Skill makes him immune to all debuffs, so good luck trying to stall him long enough to take him down.
*** Ducky and Bunny have proven to be a headache for some players to deal with. Making up a single Tank unit, with sufficient upgrades the duo hits like a semi-truck and their Blue Skill can hit all opponents at once. On top of that, their purple skill enables them to heal a sizable chunk of HP with every attack that lands. Between their ridiculously massive damage output and their healing abilities, Ducky and Bunny make for a very annoying opponent. Your best bet for dealing with them is to bring in a character who can either debuff or disable them before they can use any of their strongest attacks or can take the damage they can deal.
*** Jafar has quickly shown himself to be extremely hard to fight against. Possessing a Blue Skill that exceeds the aforementioned Ducky and Bunny's in terms of damage output while also inflicting a status effect on top of it, as well as being able to be upgraded to the point of using the skill at the literal start of the match. He also posses an extremely potent charm move lasts for as long as he has energy, so any team that survives the initial storm can find themselves fighting one of the main things keeping them alive. He's so powerful that the devs planned to nerf him in two subsequent updates, but ultimately did very little to fix the problem. As of currently, he can only really be beaten if he can be slowed down long enough for Woody to use a stun skill that targets the backmost character, Using the same slow down to use your own Jafar's skill first but these counters can be cancelled out if the enemy is using the same sort of slows.
*** Much like Jafar and fellow Toy Story characters Ducky and Bunny, Bo Peep often gets complaints about being overpowered. On top of also having absurdly powerful green and blue skills (along with a purple skill that No Sells most projectiles on a more regular basis than Dash), her active skill is a continuous spin of her staff that stops all projectiles while also moving forward and damaging and knocking back all enemies she walks into until her energy meter is emptied...and since characters gain energy from damaging enemies (and Bo is typically hitting many enemies at once when using her active skill), this means that Bo is nigh-unstoppable and you've pretty much lost the battle already unless you can stop her solely with non-projectile attacks. And unlike characters with similarly powerful white skills like Zurg and Jack, Bo is (ironically) no GlassCannon and actually has the bulk to compensate for her immense attack power. Like with Olaf, PowerCreep has made Bo less reliable over time, but she's still considered one of the game's best characters overall.
*** Randall managed the impressive feat of topping even Jafar (who was already infamously OP as noted above) in the sheer amount of "overpowered" complaints, and once you've had to face him in a fight, it isn't hard to see where the complaints come from. As would be expected from him, most of Randall's moves and skills are based around his camouflage abilities, and when he's invisible he is untargetable and takes less damage overall. And he can be ungraded to be invisible at the start of every battle as early as his Green Skill. His Purple Skill also enables him to revive with a chunk of health while also invisible once per battle, and his ability to inflict the Scare status on enemies and deal extra damage to them puts those of Mike and Sulley's to shame. Combine all of this with his Red Skillthat increases his speed when invisible and makes him turn invisible whenever he takes a certain amount of damage in one hit and two very powerful Friendship DisksYzma's makes Randall's first few basic attacks deal True damage and eliminates buffs from the enemies he attacks while Gaston's grants Randall a health boost and invincibility for 7 seconds after he uses his White Skill, and you get a character who wins in pretty much every aspect no matter what mode he's used in. Randall turned the game's meta completely upside down due to how (when fully upgraded) he is able to solo a fully-upgraded team of six with little issue and basically turned the Arena into more of a "who-has-the-strongest-Randall" contest. It says a lot that a user on the game's subreddit noted for compiling tier-lists for all the characters in the game not only still ranked Randall as a top tier character a month after his release into the game but, when asked, also noted that they would have put Randall in his own tier above everyone else (not unlike Meta Knight in VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl) if they had wanted to. Attempts to nerf Randall in subsequent patches did little to dethrone him as king of the game's meta until Friendship Disks (Magica's Megavolt disk) and characters (such as Jumba and the Cheshire Cat) designed with the express purpose of countering Randall and other invisible enemies (but mostly Randall) debuted in the game, and even then he is still considered one of the best characters in the game bar-none. Even [=PerBlue=] themselves gave a nod to Randall's infamy by having one challenge require winning a certain number of battles without using him.
*** Maximus is infamous for being an utterly unstoppable brick wall with busted stats and abilities across the board. Not only does he have ludicrously high health and damage as-is (even compared to other tanks), his white and green skills both deal a ridiculous amount of damage (the latter also healing him in the process), enough to allow him to take down other tanks easily, and his blue and purple skills both allow him to dodge damage in some way, heavily boosting his tankiness, making him a ridiculously powerful tank with little in terms of counterplay. It says something that he's still considered the best tank in the game by far even months after his initial release, with the only notable counters being Ian's blue skill and another Maximus.
*** Upon his debut, the Cheshire Cat quickly became infamous for how utterly busted his damage output was. Not only do his white and green skills deal a ludicrous amount of damage (to the point where, despite being designated as a Control hero, the Cat actually deals far more damage than the designated Damage heroes), despite being relatively frail he can easily heal himself back to full health with his blue skill, and his red skill actually allows him to hurt anyone who attacks him by sapping their energy, meaning he's extremely difficult to kill too. All of this makes for a hero who can easily one-shot most of the cast one-on-one while taking very little damage in return, and by far one of the best heroes in the game period.
*** The Beast definitely qualifies as this as his White Skill allows him to rapidly attack while being unable to be KO'd (only brought down to one HP) while also healing himself with each critical hit (which happens to be every hit he deals.) While he's become less of a nuisance over time, he still all but requires a character who can slow him down before using his White Skill again (otherwise he'll simply chain uses of his White Skill again and again until time runs out or he wipes out your team).
*** One might be forgiven for thinking WesternAnimation/Mulan was the result of an experiment by [=PerBlue=] to see how much damage they could have a single character be able to deal without breaking the game that went horribly wrong. Her damage output is completely ridiculous as is (and her Green Skill scores an unavoidableat least, not without a fully upgraded Ian to use Reflect on them hit and stun on the furthest opponent at the start of every battle, making Mulan the bane of any backline characters), but Mulan has the bonus of being a CriticalHitClass character who gains a significant boost to her critical hit ratio whenever she has a shield (giving her good synergy with shield-based characters like Slinky and her own boyfriend Shang). Combine this with a White Skill that's already one of the most damaging attacks in the entire game (a fireworks barrage that can deal up to millions of points of damage per rocket without being a critical hit), and you end up with a near-unstoppable powerhouse that can bring even the strongest of teams to its knees (even Maximus can have a significant dent put into him) and for a time was one of, if not the most hated character in the entire game (even more so than Jafar, Ducky and Bunny, and even Randall ever were). It took until Ian and Fear were introduced (and brought the new "Reflect" status with them, making it possible for Mulan to KO herself with her own skills) that characters considered to be truly good counters to Mulan were introduced.
** Low:
*** While PowerCreep has caused most of the starter heroes (with the possible exceptions of most of the Incredibles) to be left in the dust as more characters are brought in, none have been as adversely affected as Yax, who is near-universally considered to be the worst character in the game, due to being good for healing all allies at once and not much else. His attacking ability is mediocre at best, he absolutely cannot take a hit, and many other characters that you unlock later can do the things that Yax can do much, much better. All this makes for an utterly awful character who isn't good at anything and even his one niche cannot salvage him completely. Once you have a better support hero like Violet, Joy, Miguel, or Mickey Mouse, you'll likely have no need whatsoever to go back to using Yax.
*** Felix seldom gets good results, either. Most of this is due to PowerCreep, as many characters have been released that do what he can do a lot better, but as is, he is not all that durable for a Tank hero and can easily be damaged (and thus [=KO'd=]) faster than he can heal himself. While he can grant his allies a sizable Skill Power boost in a pinch, overall, Felix just CantCatchUp in just about every other aspect. Updates eventually gave his stats and abilities significant boosts to bring him up to par with the later heroes - for instance, his active skill deals more damage and has a longer stun than it initially did- although he still finds himself outclassed by several other heroes.
*** PowerCreep has similarly not done Sulley and Boo any favors. While they were useful early on in the game's release, are great at inflicting the "Scare" status on enemies, and have a very useful Friendship Disc from Woody, as more Tank heroes have been released (including near-Game Breaking ones like Hercules and the aforementioned Ducky and Bunny), Sulley and Boo's flaws (such as subpar HP and most of their moves having a comparatively weaker damage output) soon overtook their advantages completely and they eventually came to be seen as an utter joke of a unit compared to even other lesser Tank heroes. Luckily, patch 1.12 made an effort to buff them to where they are once again just as useful as other Tank heroes, but it only improved them by a small margin, if at all.
*** Genie is noticeably lacking in phenomenal cosmic power in this game. While not entirely without use (with sufficient upgrades, Genie can instantly give allies a ton of energy with his White Skill and stall an enemy with his green one), his main problems are that he is almost as squishy as Yax and, although he can heal three allies at once with his white skill, he has no way to heal himself, which makes for a very bad combination that will typically lead to Genie being [=KO'd=] in a jiffy. His ability to actually damage enemies is rather mediocre, as well, with only his Green Skill able to deal any direct damage to enemies outside of his basic attack. In short, just like Yax, Genie is another MasterOfNone vastly outclassed by other support characters. That being said, Genie is an extremely common auxiliary character in Friendship Campaigns, so most players will tell you to give Genie enough resources so he can at least survive these, but as far as [=PvP=] goes, you're better off focusing on someone like Joy or Mickey. Genie was considered to be such a bad character that Patch 1.17 didn't so much as buff him as it did retool his moveset and skills completely in order to make him viable. While the buffs did finally give Genie something unique that he was actually good at (giving allies a speed boost if they are being healed over time while he is in the party, making him a great companion to the likes of Mickey Mouse and Timon and Pumbaa), it still didn't address his fatal flaw of having no way to heal himself, still making him a bit too situational in a lot of other circumstances to be 100% viable in comparison to someone like Kristoff (who debuted right before Genie's buffs and had already handily outclassed Genie in terms of his ability to support allies) or the aforementioned Joy and Mickey.
*** Rex is yet another character ruined by PowerCreep, and is now seen as another candidate for worst character in the game, let alone worst Tank class hero. Not only have other, far better characters essentially made him obsolete (with his only niche being dealing increased damage to shields), but as is, his ability to damage enemies has not been scaled to match that of more recent heroes and is thus absolutely pitiful compared to even other early characters. This was only highlighted more when other pre-Toy Story 4 characters like Woody and Jessie were buffed via Hero Refresh or being given their Red Skills. Eventually Rex did earn his Red Skill, turning him into a less ineffectual CriticalHitClass character, though it's still generally agreed that he needs an outright Hero Refresh in order to be truly useful again.
*** Most characters (including many of the ones listed above) get hit by PowerCreep and hit the low end of the spectrum over time as stronger and better heroes get added, but Basil was unlucky enough to get hit by this right out of the gate for reasons that came down entirely onto his overall design as a character rather than his ability to stack up to the current meta. He is a character based around inflicting the "Study" status upon characters (i.e. making them more vulnerable to normal damage for a period of time), but whereas most characters with this capability inflict this status on all characters at once, Basil can only do this to a few characters at a time, making him much less useful than other Study-based characters. Most of his skills are rather poorly designed as well: His White Skill targets the enemy with the least HP and Studies them for three seconds. In theory it was likely meant to be sort of a finishing move, but in play it just feels like wasted move that could have easily racked up damage on the enemy with the most HP instead, on top of the absolutely pitiful length of the Study and being useless if the targeted character is immune to normal damage (i.e. Brutes) or invincible. His Blue Skill has a ridiculously long cooldown time (a whopping fifteen seconds when most characters' other skill cooldowns don't last any longer than ten), ensuring that it'll get used maybe twice per wave at best. The coupe de grace is his Purple skill, which grants him energy whenever an enemy is studied (including by himself) and ensures that he will be stuck using his white skill over and over again and be unable to use his other skills (especially his Blue skill). All of this is bad enough on its own, but the prevalence of Bunsen & Beaker a couple months later would doom him to bottom tierthey counter him perfectly by being immune to studies for the first 10 seconds of each wave and the nature of Beaker's clones allow them to absorb Basil's White Skill with no damage done to Bunsen. His Friendship Disks make him marginally better, but not enough for players to not regard Basil as a terribly designed character who is in desperate need of a design overhaul. Soon enough, Basil did get a Hero Refresh...which not only did nothing to fix his poorly designed skills but made it easier for him to gain energy (and thus exacerbating what was already generally agreed to be his biggest flaw). It was at this point that the Great Mouse Detective crossed over into full-on MemeticLoser territory in the eyes of the playerbase.
** Both:
*** Jack Sparrow in his debut wasn't necessarily a bad character; he is relatively good at attacking and has a special that hits all opponents multiple times. The problem was that he did not have the bulk to compensate for it, resulting in everyone's favorite pirate captain being a GlassCannon, with an emphasis on the "glass" part, who would often be [=KO'd=] early on before he could even do anything. Luckily, patch 1.7.2 gave Jack a much needed buff to his stats along with good strategies that involve putting him on a team with fellow [=PotC=] character Barbossa, Rex, and Nick Wilde. While Jack's still not the best character in the game, he's at least not completely ineffectual and useless anymore; some even claim that he's now high-tier.
*** WesternAnimation/DonaldDuck[='s=] standing in the meta is a bit unclear. Some see him as blatantly inferior to many of the characters he debuted around (not the least of which includes infamous characters like Jafar and Randall) and that he is the most fragile character in the game since Zurg; being so squishy that it leaves him hardly any elbow room to use the few new things he can do (such as prevent debuffs from affecting his allies and instead turn them back against opponents or deal True damage with his Friendship Disk from Anger). Others claim that Donald is not as absolutely ineffectual as he might seem; he still has a decent damage output, especially if you can keep him aliveIn fact, it's been noted that with enough HP mods, you can have him essentially function as a Tank hero instead of a Control one. A later update tweaked some of Donald's skills, however, and they ended up proving to the playerbase that Donald was useful after all, especially with enough HP boosts.

to:

* TierInducedScrappy: While most characters are still considered to be useful in some form or fashion in the main campaign regardless, when it comes to [=PvP=], some characters have at certain points been seen as more effective (or ineffective) than others:
** High: In general, many characters debut in the game in ridiculously powerful states with few existing characters who can reliably counter them, with later characters often being designed to counter them (or at least their more annoying abilities). That being said, a few characters stand out (or did at one point) among the rest:
*** When he debuted in the game, Olaf was considered to be frigging powerhouse. He has the ability to dodge attacks (multiple times), can recover his
[[TierInducedScrappy/DisneyHeroesBattleMode Has its own health, and can revive with almost full health when [=KO'd=].

Most of this is due to PowerCreep, as many characters have been released that do what he can do a lot better, but as is, he is not all that durable for a Tank hero and can easily be damaged (and thus [=KO'd=]) faster than he can heal himself.

* MisbegottenMultiplayerMode: Heist Mode is regarded by much of the game's playerbase as an absolute joke due to a number of factors:
** The mode was widely considered broken at its launch, largely because there was no punishment for failing to contribute. Players would join a Heist and do nothing, becoming TheLoad and forcing their teammates to do all the work (or if there are enough people doing this, their teammate, singular). Things did get better once hosts were given the ability to kick players out, though there's still nothing stopping people from starting heists of their own and then promptly abandoning them in the hopes that other players will join the heist and get them their Heist coins.
** The mode is also infamous among the playerbase for being filled with players who don't or even outright refuse to cooperate with players and/or ignore their advice for playing the game. As a result, problem players often go from TheLoad straight to TheMillstone by pulling characters off of valuables just to clear an Ambush event and never putting them back afterwards, interrupting other characters' actions to clear Ambushes, or starting Thief fights the second the prompts show up when there are no other characters close by to help, often resulting in an almost immediate loss of a valuable. Heaven help the others if they choose to do that for the Hideout; even ignoring the fact that most players like to wait until all of the white circles are filled before attacking the Hideout, losing the Hideout means losing the Heist altogether, regardless of any other factors, meaning a player who fights the Hideout in a losing battle wastes everyone else's time and effort. And finally, there have been cases of Heist [=GMs=] kicking out all of the other players right before the Heist ends, which gives no benefit to themselves or the other players and is done for the sole purpose of screwing over other players. Because of all of these problems, most players recommend playing only private Heists with trusted members of your Guild in order to avoid Heists botched by uncooperative or unsportsmanlike players.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Lilo's two friendship disks are with Russell and Angel, but, curiously, not her co-star and canonical best friend Stitch. Granted, the fact that the one campaign involves Stitch's LoveInterest Angel suggests a significant presence from Stitch anyway, but a number of players still found not making one of Lilo's friendships with Stitch himself in first place a puzzling creative decision regardless.

Checking the trope page, leaving Fake difficulty removed, since the Mr. Incredible's HP part is covered by The Computer Is A Cheating Bastard (a sub trope), and the rest is misuse for complaining about characters being too strong to beat, regardless of the reasons behind it

Not ymmv, though written as an audience reaction. Will rewrite and add to main page if it fits the definition.

* FakeDifficulty: A frequent complaint among players is the overuse of Mr. Incredible as an enemy in many of the friend campaigns, especially since he seems to possess far more HP than a player at the same level could ever possibly achieve. Making matters worse is the LifeDrain he gains from his Blue skill that makes him speed up. Although not as widely complained about as Mr. Incredible, Shank gets similar complaints due to being a StoneWall who always blocks a percentage of any damage given to her and can also heal herself with her Blue Skill.
