* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: Season 2 (US) brings us Kent, who is ''clearly'' homophobic, even saying in the diary room (early on) that he thinks the homosexual lifestyle is sinful. He's also placed in the house with Bunky, who is openly gay. You'd expect these two to be at each other's throats, right? Well, those two actually became best friends in the house, Kent even let Bunky sleep in the head of household room with him!

Well, those two actually became best friends in the house, Kent even let Bunky sleep in the head of household room with him!

* FridgeBrilliance: The head of household competitions in the American Big Brother actually have a bit of this. Strategically, you ''don't'' want to win Head of Household because it puts a target on your back as you reveal your targets and sometimes your alliance to the house; and you're often seen as "getting them out" even when all you did as Head of Household was nominate them for eviction, very easily someone can flip the votes around with you having nothing to do with it. Head of Household only votes in the event of a tie. So naturally, people try to avoid this until much later in the game, but the competitions are designed so that somebody ''has'' to win, and it's not uncommon to ahve someone win by default. A common strategy is to throw it to your own alliance members.
** There's also some FridgeBrilliance for the final veto challenge in 12. It was actually set up like most multiple choice tests where you can eventually narrow it down to two possible choices. This was what allowed Hayden to win it, since he still had that skill of removing the blatantly-incorrect choices due to being a college student, whereas the other people in the challenge were a hotel sales manager, oil company worker, and insurance agent who had ''long'' finished school, or hadn't even gone to college.

* HoYay: Ragan (gay) and Matt (straight) in US S12. They're almost always together to the point where people think they're in an alliance, and Matt even referred to Ragan as "a good showmance partner". When Matt was put on the block, Ragan began to weep uncontrollably.
** A few contestants even thought that the "secret relationship" Annie implied existed was between Ragan and Matt and that they had been dating before entering the BB House.
** Week 1 when the Sabatour revealed that two house guest have a connection too each other Brenden right away thought that Matt and Ragan could be gay for each other.

** With Brendon out of the house, Rachel became less of an emotional bitch, cried less, and fan acknowledged this, so you could make a case she was rescused. However, it wasn't as much that she became more likeable, but that the other people left in the house aside from Jordan were disliked even more.

to:

** With Rachel from the US version, arguably. In Season 12, she got a bad rep for being something of a loose cannon, and just barely made it into the jury house. By Season 13, however, she seemed to have matured a bit (which showed especially after her fiancee Brendon out of was evicted ''twice''), and even earned a spot in the house, Final 3, outlasting her previous performance on the show by a mile. If she makes it into the Final 2. As well as improving her own game, she seemed to win over some people who disliked or even ''loathed'' her during S12.

* WhatAnIdiot: Brendon in Season 13. The reason they were evicted in their original season is their Russel Hantz-like social game where they made enemies of just about everyone in the house and being good in competitions put targets on their backs the size of Alaska. Instead of cleaning up their act this time however, they act pretty much the same way they did last year, just allied with Jeff and Jordan this time upon finding they had common ground. After Daniele flipped on their initial alliance, Brendon told her that if he or Rachel makes it to the finals they will win, which is the ''exact opposite'' type of thinking you want to encourage--if you want someone to keep you in the house, you want them to think you ''aren't'' a threat to them and won't beat them if you make it to the end with them. * CrowningMomentOfAwesome: The first season of the British show was rather boring with nobody giving a damn, right up until the moment that one of the contestants was caught cheating. The subsequent grilling by the other contestants was declared up among the greatest TV moments ever, and every series since has been an increasingly pathetic (and spectacularly unsuccessful) attempt to recreate such glory.
** Season eight of the US version, when Evel Dick ([[XtremeKoolLetterz yes, that's how it's spelled]]) banged pots and pans at two in the morning in the other house guests' rooms ''so he would go home instead of his daughter''. [[spoiler:Despite this, he went on to win, with Daniele getting second place.]]
** Season 11 US: The dumb blonde Jordan goes up to the MMA bully Russell, gets in his face and yells, "SHUT UP RUSSELL! I AM NOT AFRAID OF YOU AND I SWEAR I WILL BEAT YOU UP!" Did I mention she's yelling at a MMA fighter?
** Regardless of what you think about Kaysar Ridha and his game playing skills, his first HOH win during season six was perhaps the biggest CMOA the show has ever seen. Not only did he get his biggest competition out of the house, Eric "Cappy" Littman, who had eliminated Kaysar's friend Michael the previous week through exploiting the false rumor that he was a sexual predator, Kaysar also coerced two of Cappy's fair weather allies James and Sarah into joining Kaysar's new alliance(dubbed, "The Sovereign Six", as opposed to the cult like "Friendship" alliance that Cappy was the leader of). Not only that, but he set up his nominations in a way that made it impossible for James to ever appear trustworthy to the other players if he didn't comply to Kaysar's demands. Finally, he verbally owned Cappy's secret partner, Maggie, with the following exchange:
-->'''Maggie''': "You sealed my fate."
-->'''Kaysar''': "No, I sealed your partner's fate."
*** But, Maggie ends up winning the next HoH, eliminates Kaysar (TWICE), wipes out his Alliance, then wins the Game. He should've eliminated her & kept the hot headded "Cappy" around.
*** That argument only works in hindsight, since Kaysar had no way of knowing how badly Howie would screw up the nominations in Week 5. Also, Maggie didn't come into her own as a cult leader until after Cappy left. When he was around, he pretty much filled the role as leader of the Nerd Herd, and was also a bigger challenge threat than Maggie.
** From Big Brother Australia, Merlin's eviction: as Merlin walked along the eviction runway, he stuck black tape over his mouth and held up a sign he had hidden in his clothes from the start of the season saying “FREE TH REFUGEES” (the letter E had fallen off). He ignored host Gretel Killeen, sat down on the couch, and refused to speak to her for the remainder of the half-hour live show, somewhat screwing the live eviction audience and live broadcast.
** Also, [[CampGay Ragan's]] TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to [[TheScrappy Rachel]], in the recent season.
*** Ragan is the reincarnation of Oscar Wilde.

* HateDumb: Towards Shelly Moore. After she betrayed Jeff and Jordan and realized she had no chance of winning with those two in the house, she promptly dropped to the lowest rated houseguest ever. ** Daniele in US Season ''13''. In ''8'', she was good at Veto and HOH competitions but otherwise got on peoples's nerves with her {{Wangst}} and inability to make any moves that her dad didn't tell her to do, as well as thoughts that because she and her dad were ratings, was having rules slanted towards them. In season ''13'', she begun to put herself in a great spot, but then decided to make moves and was not afraid of the consequences of angering the dominant and most tight-knit alliance like most players in the game are. (Which was part of what made 12 considered a poor season.) Her dad doesn't entirely approve; mostly because she made her moves too early.

Also not in her favor is that besides her manipulations and lies she's done very little herself, and her seeming being an [[UngratefulBastard Ungrateful Bitch]] to Jeff and Jordan, voting to evict Jeff despite the two of them being her closest friends and allies, and Jordan in a past competition giving her a phone call from home so she could talk to her daughter. ** Season 12 (Along with 2 and 10) is perhaps one of the best ways to demonstrate what the US BigBrother is actually like; the producers didn't really try to slant the season that much and they didn't show off that many twists that affected the game (Sans the Diamond Power of Veto, which was a small-scale coup'de'tat[[hottip:*:The Coup'de'tat was a power that allowed a person to remove the nominees and replace them with their own nominees. (Although it ''did'' screw over Kathy) However most people were rather...dull game players because they were booksmart and not really streetsmart. The Brigade shows a BoringButPractical strategy. There were also a couple players who, if they were in another season, probably would have controlled the house but wound up on the wrong side of a four (later three) man alliance or didn't play too long. Heck, Ragan could've controlled the game; his main shortcoming was that he spent too long hiding behind house drama and didn't start playing hard until it was too late when the alliances were tighter.
** Season 13 is considered better than 12 so far, but it's one of the most poorly edited seasons due to the Brenchel-centric editing during the first few. Then the ''obvious'' safety ropes in the form of Pandora's Box and repeating competitions from ''even the first season'' so that Rachel and Jordan would win. ** From the american series, Amber would cry over just about ''anything''. In Season 13, Rachel comes pretty close to Amber in terms of constantly throwing pity parties and crying, while Brendon would just try to calm her down. Other criers from the American series include Daniele (8), Shelia (9), April (6), Chima and Lydia (11), and Ragan (12). (Zig-zagged with Bunky; who had a reputation for crying a lot but his crying was more happy crying.)
See also RealityShowGenreBlindness.
** The newbies had a golden opportunity to vote out Rachel, instead, Kalia decided to TRUST Rachel & Jeff, even though Rachel said 'to her FACE' that she'd target Danielle, followed by Lawon asking to be evicted, thinking he could beat whoever came back. "Win-nothing" Lawon, against either Dominic or Brendon, allowing the veterans to retake a majority. To be fair, Lawon ''asked'' to be voted out and there was no way for them to have known it'd be a challenge. And also to be fair, exchanging Rachel for Brendon would have been a better hoice.
** Marcellas is the earliest and most ''famous'' example of this trope. In Big Brother 3, the power of veto could not be used on oneself, however at the end, it became the ''Golden'' power of Veto which ''could'' be used on yourself. Marcellas is nominated, wins the veto, but ''does not use it'' and is then evicted. When Julie Chen interviewed him, she even bonked him on the head with a piece of paper and said, "What were you thinking?"

* SpotlightStealingSquad: For the edited episodes of Season 13, 50% of the screentime was spent showing Brendon and Rachel. 40% was spent showing Jeff and Jordan. 5% was spent showing us Daniele and Dominic. The other 5% was divvied up amongst the remaining seven houseguests, with Porsche and Lawon hit hardest. (Dick technically doesn't count seeing as he walked within the first week.) Once Dominic was evicted, Kalia joined Daniele in gaining 5% of the screentime. When Brendon was evicted, we finally got to see a couple houseguests...but alas, all good things had to come to an end because a twist and series of idiotic moves saved him. (Kalia, Adam, Porsche, and Shelly could just walk right on out of the house and the editors and viewers wouldn't even notice.)
** The veterans in ''general''. It almost seems like they ''intentionally'' cast a bunch of people who play a BoringButPractical game so they wouldn't rob the editors golden boys any screentime.

* PanderingToTheBase: Season 13 of the american version, which featured the unnecessary return of six fan favourites (two of them being [[TheWesley weslies]]) with ''obvious'' slantings and bailouts when things weren't going their way. The live feeds would be almost perpetually turned towards them, and the edited shows would be about 90% Brendon&Rachel or Jeff&Jordan, leaving the audience saying, "Who?" when the first four people were evicted.

** This troper would say the rot began in Season 2, when it went from a faithful remake of the original to being like every other American reality show on television. Why must every reality show be a glorified game show (or glorify vanity) anyway?

** The newbies had a golden opportunity to vote out Rachel, instead, Kalia decided to TRUST Rachel & Jeff, even though Rachel said 'to her FACE' that she'd target Danielle, followed by Lawon asking to be evicted, thinking he could beat whoever came back. "Win-nothing" Lawon, against either Dominic or Brendon, allowing the veterans to retake a majority.

** Surprisingly averted with Jordan - despite literally being ''carried'' in ''both'' seasons she's on, everyone claims that she is a better competitor for having won a luxury competition and only one head of household, to Kalia's two head of households, Porsche's one head of household and one veto (As well as how many competitions she finished in the top three with), and Adam's two vetoes.
* WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings: Thanks to people making ''huge'' efforts to slant the game in their favour in the first season, they put in limitations on how the audience can effect the game. In particular, people have botted the site so that Ronnie and later Jeff or Jordan would get the Coup de'Tat in season 11. CBS put in restrictions on how many votes can go, and then later on randomized the positions on the site so that if you clicked the same place twice, you wouldn't click on the same houseguest you clicked on previously. In the recent America's Vote, you have to have an account with the site and can only vote ten times.

*** Season 13 in general was either one of the best seasons ever when Rachel [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap realized being a complete jerk won't win her the game]] and got what she claimed to have deserved. Or you were suspicious at how Rachel seemed to get every single twist directly or indirectly benefitting from it, shaking your head at the {{Flanderization}} of the game into a game about competitions.

** Daniele in US Season ''13''. In ''8'', she was good at veto competitions but otherwise got on peoples's nerves with her {{Wangst}} and inability to make any moves that her dad didn't tell her to do, as well as thoughts that because she and her dad were ratings, was having rules slanted towards them.

*** To be fair, her father's horrible behavior in Season 8 probably contributed to her not being able to think straight, and I don't remember any explicit scenes from the feeds where he "told her what to do". It was pretty much a mutual partnership.

***That argument only works in hindsight, since Kaysar had no way of knowing how badly Howie would screw up the nominations in Week 5. Also, Maggie didn't come into her own as a cult leader until after Cappy left. When he was around, he pretty much filled the role as leader of the Nerd Herd, and was also a bigger challenge threat than Maggie.
