The comic takes place the 1930s and focuses on Ben Westford, a reporter for a tabliod magazine who also just happens to be a vampire. The job is actually a cover for investigating the supernatural ongoings in his hometown of Eris City. One day, an incident drags in a local college professor Stella (a.k.a Star) Storm into the mix. While initially disliking Ben (due to opposing tabloids in general), she realizes there's a much bigger world beyond the human scope and becomes an ally. Add in Ben's assistant and photographer, Naidashi Yoshimoto (or just Nai), a tengu that he adopted, and Pickles, a demon puppy that came out of a green gem. The four chronicle and confront the seedy supernatural underworld.

* BigBad: Ian Easton, the vampire that turned Ben and has started a cult with the goal of taking over the human world.

* BoomHeadshot: Stella manages to hits Rhonda in the face with fire in Issue 10, giving her a nasty burn scar.
* BreatherEpisode: The extra comics that usually follow a chapter. Likewise chapter 9 which is more of a comedy episode.

Bit justified though as she didn't know about the monsters since Star never told her, thus causing her to freak out. And seeing her sister wield fire didn't help matters. They do eventually patch things up after Reece explains why Star was hesitant to tell her in the first place.]]

* BiggerBad: [[spoiler: The end of Issue Ten reveals that Ian is working for someone himself, a female Egyptian Mummy, the older sister of the one seen earlier (and his murderer), who is trying to bring about an apocalyptic event.]]

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Linda practically spoils the whole stakeout Ben, Nai and Star were doing by brazenly calling out Ian's mooks who outnumber her three to one, which was dumb even if they weren't vampires. Granted she didn't know they were monsters but should've known better when Star was telling her to be quiet after she followed her.

** The male of the two mobster twins. After Ben saves his sister from getting bitten by Fern. He goes on and tries to shoot Ben despite the fact. Course being a vampire, Ben survives and naturally is annoyed by this. The sister is at least a little more gracious about it.

** Issue 4: [[spoiler: Stella unwittingly gives Ian's group a scroll that contains an spell he needs for his plans.]]
