* Can't find the source at the moment, but essentially confirmed in an interview with the game's director. This "crappy" port exists to not only help fill out the Switch's first year of releases, but also to serve as a demonstration of the console's out-of-the-box local multiplayer. It also makes sense for Nintendo to re-release one of the Wii U's KillerApps on a system where more people can play it (since the Wii U didn't do so well in sales and all).

[[AC: Melecie's Predictions]]

This... is gonna be fun. Assuming all "obligatory theme" tracks like desert and snow are filled by retro tracks, I think we've got...

*shell cup
**DS Figure-8 Circuit Shell Cup 1's track for odd-numbered titles had the latest unused track from Mushroom Cup 1. DS had SNES Mario Circuit 1 and 7 had [=N64=] Luigi Raceway, thus the next Mario Kart would have DS Figure-8 Circuit as GBA Peach Circuit and GCN Luigi Circuit have been used. This also counts as the obligatory non-Mario circuit.
**3DS Cheep Cheep Lagoon An introduction to underwater driving. This can't really be interchanged with U Water Park, as even-numbered games have a pattern where their Shell Cup 1 had the Mushroom Cup 2 track 2 games back, which would feature Water Park in the game after this.
**U Thwomp Ruins This could be interchanged with U Sweet Sweet Canyon, but I feel like this can double as an introduction to gliding and anti-gravity unlike the latter which only features gliding once.
**Wii Toad's Factory A harder track to cap off the Shell Cup and test the player on what they learned.

*banana cup
**SNES Koopa Beach 1 Obligatory beach track. Seems like we have been running out of beach tracks to use, so I feel like Koopa Beach 1 would return and a new beach track would appear.
**Wii Mario Circuit Obligatory Mario Circuit track. I chose Wii's because [=N64's=], GCN's, and GBA's were all used and I do not think we are getting two DS circuits in one game.
**GBA Boo Lake Obligatory ghost-themed track. Can probably be interchanged with U Twisted Mansion, any SNES Ghost Valley course or GBA Broken Pier at preference, I just think they're going to save as many SNES courses as they can and avoid using too many Wii U tracks now that we've 8 different games to pick tracks from.
**U Sunshine Airport Can probably be interchanged with Toad's Harbor, Shy Guy Falls, or Dolphin Shoals on preference.

*leaf cup
**GBA Sunset Wilds Obligatory desert track, can be interchanged with GBA Yoshi Desert or Wii Dry Dry Ruins, but I feel Sunset Wilds is more likely.
**SNES Vanilla Lake 2 Obligatory snow track. Can be interchanged by 1.
**N64 Wario Stadium The only remaining [=N64=] track, and as Nintendo seemed to have an obsession with [=N64=] tracks in the few previous games I don't think they'll save it for the next game.
**GCN Mushroom City GCN is also slowly running out of tracks, with 4 remaining (and Rainbow Road, for obvious reasons, and Wario Colosseum, due to [=N64=] Wario Stadium, unlikely to be in 9, so this and GCN Bowser's Castle left. Also, this serves as the obligatory traffic track.

*lightning cup
**U Cloudtop Cruise A challenging cloud course, which is not really mandatory, but I think they're going to add a lot of Wii U tracks, so can be interchanged with Electrodrome.
**DS Bowser's Castle Can be interchanged with GCN's. While we never had a Bowser's Castle apart from N64's and GBA's in a retro tracklist, if they do bring in one it's most likely either of them.
**3DS Maka Wuhu Lightning Cup 3 has a pattern where the Star Cup 4 track two games back is used. Wii had GCN DK Mountain, 7 DS Airship Fortress, and 8 Wii Grumble Volcano, so continuing the pattern puts [=3DS=] Maka Wuhu here. This also counts as the obligatory mountain track.
**GBA Rainbow Road Lightning Cup 4 has the Rainbow Road six games back. 7 had SNES's and 8 had [=N64=]'s, so continuing the pattern puts GBA's here.

...giving us a total of:
*2 tracks from SNES
*1 track from [=N64=]
*3 tracks from GBA
*1 track from GCN
*2 tracks from DS
*2 tracks from Wii
*2 tracks from [=3DS=]
*3 tracks from Wii U

WMG: The origin of Pink Gold Peach is from Wario Land
At the end of Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, the castle Captain Syrup was in blows up to reveal a giant statue of Princess Peach. We don't quite know what colour it actually is, due to the Gameboy only being able to produce whites and greys for colours. It does seemingly sparkle however. So what we see in Mario Kart as Pink Gold Peach is actually a miniature version of the statue at the end of Wario Land. How she came to be a miniature version of said statue I couldn't begin to fathom, but it seems like the perfect explanation for a character who appeared seemingly out of nowhere.

WMG: Toad created the Mario Kart tournaments.

Initially, the item boxes were just ? Blocks. However, with the funds from the first tournament, Toad was able to build Toad Factory, where the new item boxes were made specifically for kart races and introduced the next time around. Seeing how profitable these tournaments were, he decided to make two-person karts and double item-boxes, hoping to increase his profits. However, this turned out to be more expensive than it was worth, hardly turning a profit.

Toad goes back to single-person go-karts, and decides to go a different direction with the addition of motorbikes. He also decides to spend some time making his factory into a track for everyone to tour. However, people going through his factory began to worry Toad, as people crashed into boxes and got squished on the conveyor belts. He decides to shut the track down.

When he hears of Captain Toad's adventures across the universe, he gets an idea: anti-gravity. He begins working immediately, adding it to some old tracks in order to revive interest, and using it in new tracks. While he was hesitant, he eventually invited some other Nintendo characters and brought the double item-boxes back.

Also, Mario Party's Mini-game Island ended with a face-off against him in a racing mini-game.

WMG: Retro Tracks for Mario Kart 9/Switch
Since Retro Tracks have been a staple in the franchise since Mario Kart DS, it's all but confirmed that we will have another set of 16 retro tracks for the next Mario Kart game. Predictions can be posted here:

[[AC: Time Lord Victorious' predictions]]
Firstly, let's see how many tracks from each game will be brought back. To be safe, we'll use a total of 16 tracks, and we'll assume they are bringing back tracks that haven't been remade yet:
* SNES - 1
* N64 - 1 (considering there's only one track that hasn't been remade yet...)

* GCN - 2
* DS - 1
* Wii - 3
* 3DS - 3
* Wii U - 3

Now for the arrangement of the tracks and the tracks themselves:
* Shell Cup
** DS Figure-8 Circuit
** GBA Riverside Park
** Wii U Sweet Sweet Canyon
** Wii Toad's Factory
* Banana Cup
** 3DS Cheep Cheep Lagoon
** SNES Ghost Valley 3
** GCN Mushroom City
** Wii U Electrodrome
* Leaf Cup
** 3DS Mario Circuit
** N64 Wario Stadium
** Wii DK Summit
** GCN Bowser's Castle
* Lightning Cup
** Wii U Sunshine Airport
** Wii Dry Dry Ruins
** 3DS Maka Wuhu
** GBA Rainbow Road

WMG: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is merely intended as Filler while Nintendo works on the actual Mario Kart Switch game.
Not even would be dumb enough to make the only Mario Kart on their new system a crappy port of a game that everyone's already played years prior, and which spits in the face of anyone who did so. Deluxe is merely intended as cheap filler, as a cheap time-consumer while Nintendo works on the actual Switch game.
