* StrongEnemiesLowRewards: In the UsefulNotes/PlayStation3 re-release named ''Tales of Graces f'', it's possible to defeat the Rockgagong (a powerful late-game OptionalBoss) earlier than intended using a GameBreaker setup for Hubert, but doing so will not net you any experience points whatsoever. In fact, back in the original UsefulNotes/NintendoWii version, it was possible to gain experience points from the Rockgagong ''repeatedly'' to overlevel your party members, which became so broken that [[ObviousRulePatch it was understandably patched out in the PS3 release]]. Subverted in that pulling the same trick on the [=PS3=] version will net you a [[BraggingRightsReward PlayStation Network Trophy]], but that's it.

This is a step up from the original version, where such an attack was an [[OneHitKill instant kill]].

* DifficultySpike: The Ghardia Shaft is absurdly difficult compared to what came before, especially playing on higher difficulty levels. You go from "confident and decisive victories" in the area immediately prior to "wiped within fifteen seconds by the very first random encounter."

* LimitedSpecialCollectorsUltimateEdition: The European Day One Edition came with some rather nice and shiny bonuses[[note]]a DVD containing an interview with Hideo Baba, the OST, an artbook and a code for the TalesOfDestiny costumes[[/note]] to make up for the late release.

** One item you can craft is called the Deicide Blade. It looks like a cross between a sword and a chainsaw, and said that it has killed a God. This is a reference to the first [[VideoGame/MakaiToshiSaGa SaGa]] game, where due to a slight programming bug, you could kill the final boss instantly with a chainsaw.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: A young boy named Fiery Joe who thinks that getting smacked by his siblings is sometimes "kinda fun."

* BackFromTheDead: It seems that Sophie does this at the beginning of the adult arc. [[spoiler: In reality, she just distributed her particles to Asbel, Cheria and Hubert, and then reassembled herself later]]. It's also implied that [[spoiler: Hubert and Cheria were either dead or very nearly dead after Lambda's attack, and that Sophie's particle dispersion brought them both back from the brink of death.]]

* {{Trope 2000}}: The devices in the Zhonecage that generate random effects are named in this style, as Random Effect Generator 3000.

** You can see the drums from VideoGame/TaikoDrumMaster in the [[spoiler:Katz' Korner]].

* AdultFear: Lady Kerri (Hubert and Asbel's mom). Let's see: Your kids love you but are either afraid ([[ShrinkingViolet Hubert]]) or slightly resentful ([[HotBlooded Asbel]]) of your husband. Your husband isn't helping matters any due to him generally being emotionally constipated mixed with a short temper triggered by Asbel almost daily, so in short she's the OnlySaneMan. One day, you '''have to''' then ship of one of your children to '''another country''' and explain it to his older brother but before you can said oldest runs of somewhere. You then get news that both of your sons were almost killed but can only see one of them since the other has already been sent away. Your child then decides to run away from home and disappears for 7 years. Your husband then dies causing your sons to come back home. Only when they get back, they are at each others throats, the youngest son hates you and the oldest is exiled from the village. It's really surprising she didn't go into an AngstComa.

** An early skit in ''Lineage and Legacies'' has Asbel looking over prospective candidates for marriage. Two profiles he read are "[[VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss Anise Tatlin]]" and "[[VideoGame/TalesOfDestiny Nanaly Fletcher]]".

** The mission to Bathus Citadel is to retrieve a componant made of Derris Ore. A potential reference to [[VidoeGame/TalesOfSymphonia Derris Kharlon]].

* BeautyBrainsandBrawn: TeamMom Cheria for Beauty, DitzyGenius Pascal for Brains and PintsizedPowerhouse Sophie for Brawn.

An UpdatedRerelease for the UsefulNotes/{{PS3}} called ''Tales of Graces ƒ'' was released in December 2010 (later released in America in March 2012 and in Europe in August). The game includes the usual array of upgrades like new skits, scenes, abilities and [[LimitBreak Mystic Artes]]. By far the biggest addition is an epilogue story called "Lineage and Legacies", which adds [[spoiler:Richard]] as a fully-playable character. The party also gains an Overlimit-like ability called "Accelerate Mode," which grants unique powers to each character and gives them access to a powerful FinishingMove. Definitely worth grabbing a few siblings or friends to do multiplayer with.
