* AffablyEvil: mixed with a dash of HiddenDepths and PetTheDog. The reason Grimm is doing this at all is because the stories he knows have been censored and otherwise {{Bowdlerized}} into fluff with aesops and scenarios that do not make sense when you think them through.

* ChristmasEpisode/ YetAnotherChristmasCarol: Grimm takes on "Literature/AChristmasCarol", then goes on to trash Santa's workshop and hijack his sleigh in order to grimmify all of Dickensian London.

* GrotesqueCute: The game's visual aesthetic. Behold puppet Satan!

* PetTheDog: While Grimm is not all that pleasant, he's also shown several times to like the protagonists of the stories he reads. In Cinderella, for example, his issue stems from the father, step-mother and siblings not being properly punished despite the neglect and abuse the foist on a girl who in the version he reads, can only cry until her wishes are granted. His altered take on the same story has him make Cinderella not only smarten up but punish the people who made her life worse after her mother passed.
** In Iron John, as opposed to being simply grateful and nothing else, when the titular John's Curse is lifted, he recognizes that the prince's father and the princess' father are only trying to use him because he is a war hero, and makes the prince his heir to properly reward him. This is after he spent most of the rest of the altered story disparaging the prince and using him for his own ends.

* SpoofAesop: The ultimate result of much of Grimm's interference is such gems like "[[BlackAndGreyMorality you can't get rid of cruelty in your own generation, so why bother?]]" and "[[CatsAreMean Felines are cruel and vicious creatures who only help others out of the knowledge that they'll come off better in the long term]]". To show just how bad the SugarBowl is before Grimm comes along, these actually make more sense then the [[BrokenAesop previous]] [[HardTruthAesop ones]].

* AnAesop: Grimm delivers one of these at the end of each darkened fairy tale, they range from normal, to [[SpaceWhaleAesop outlandish]], to (unsurprisingly) rather disturbing.

** He's just as often rooting for the protagonists as he is hoping they get theirs, and as a result, he In general makes the characters much smarter and quick to call each other out for their nonsense. Especially so with female protagonists, such as Cinderella and Mulan.

Originally released as weekly episodes on [=GameTap=] from July 2008 to April 2009, the whole series was made available on UsefulNotes/{{Steam}} in January 2014.

A ComicBook adaptation by Creator/IDWPublishing has Grimm, having successfully Grimmified the fairy tale world, moving on to various ComicBook settings, starting with a CaptainErsatz-filled superhero universe in "[[CrisisCrossover Crisis on Earth 57]]".

** The fifth issue gives Grimm a clear ''ComicBook/{{Bone}}'' to pick, as he plans to reunite [[CaptainErsatz Captain Ersatzes]] of the three {{Cartoon Creature}} brothers just to have them quickly offed in what he views as a "brilliant" ending.

* ThePigpen: Grimm is a filthy, filthy little man. He weaponizes it in his crusade to make everything dark, and him just being near darkened people makes them vomit from the smell.

* SurprisinglyGoodForeignLanguage: In Episode 3 of Season 3, Grimm tackles the tale of Fa Mulan. During the whole episode, he speaks in perfect Mandarin Chinese.

* CrapsackWorld: Grimm's motivation is to transform the MarySuetopia of the fairy tale world into this.

* FridgeLogic: In-universe. Grimm sometimes points out some of the less logical things in the stories he visits

* BringMyBrownPants: Grimm notes that the titular character in ''A Boy Who Learns What Fear Is'' found out that fear and surprise have one common element: BOTH CAN MAKE YOU MESS YOUR PANTS UNEXPECTEDLY!

* SpoofAesop: The ultimate result of much of Grimm's interference is such gems like "[[BlackAndGreyMorality you can't get rid of cruelty in your own generation, so why bother?]]" and "[[CatsAreMean Felines are cruel and vicious creatures who only help others out of the knowledge that they'll come off better in the long term]]". * TheCorrupter: This dwarf corrupts both the land and the people of every story he visits, such as turning the friendly woodsman into an [[AxeCrazy axe-swinging]] madman who chases the uncorrupted to chop at them. Grimm goes after everyone, hero or villain.

* EvilerThanThou: Grimm is this to several of the villains he encounters. At one point he even berates ''Satan'' for having a half-assed plan.

* GroundPound: Butt Stomping is an important part of the gameplay. Not only does it allow you to darken things out of your reach, but also stun cleaners. You could squish them too, but you have to turn them dark first and by then they are harmless.

* HideYourChildren: Averted. They seem to be the official [[ButtMonkey Butt Monkies]] of the game.
* HumansAreBastards: After he's done, everyone in the story will live and breathe this. If there is any way to spin an action into a selfish act of violence, Grimm will point it out and then make the story reflect his interpretation.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Grimm often expresses a contempt for (characters he perceives to be) [[KarmaHoudini Karma Houdinis]] in spite of himself getting away with mass corruption, pollution, murder, and other grisly things within the story worlds.

* LoonyFan: Grimm is a [[AnthropomorphicPersonification Death]] fanatic.

* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Typically the lowest form of cleaners and as such, are easily blackened.

** Even in the Puss in Boots story, after the {{Grimmification}}, he says the AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs {{Meme}}. In that episode, he also notes [[Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail the repression of peasants and the violence inherent in the system]]. Finally, the bunny warrens get turned into the lagomorph version of [[Film/{{Alien}} an Alien nest]].

* SurprisinglyGoodForeignLanguage: In Episode 3 of Season 3, Grimm tackles the tale of Mulan. During the whole episode, he speaks in perfect Mandarin Chinese.

** However, this quickly gets subverted in later episodes, where he obviously does ''not'' like getting hit and sent flying. Perhaps it was fun at first but the luster wore off quickly.

* WalkingWasteland: Grimm brings decay and crapulence to those stories he chooses to rewrite.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Grimm's goals include delivering retribution to {{Karma Houdini}}s and granting some folks who were victimized like Cinderella and Mulan some closure (with brutal revenge against their oppressors) but he commits a great deal of morally and ethically questionable acts to do so.
* WombLevel: As to be expected, one of the second to last scene in Little Red Riding hood takes place inside the Big Bad Wolf.
