* PropRecycling: All games share the most of their VideoGameSettings and visual style with the original ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBros1'' The latter two games, ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBros2'' and ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'' ''heavily'' recycle visual and musical assets from ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosWii''. Of particular note, ''2'' recycles ''almost all'' of its visual and musical assets from ''Wii'', with only the bone and gold enemy variants and three bonus world map themes not being recycled.

Null edit to also mention 3D World and Captain Toad, both of which retained elements from the NSMB subseries

The NSMB games are part of the greater platformer Mario series, which still got new installments with Odyssey, both Maker games (and these featured a game style based on NSMBU), and Run (this one also retaining the NSMBU style). So this doesn't count (in addition, the fact NSMBU got DLC and later a re-release means that the sub-series never really left off)

* FranchiseKiller: Despite both games getting a positive response from critics, fan backlash towards both ''New Super Mario Bros. 2'' and ''New Super Mario Bros. U'', notably with the lack of originality and recycled assets & music, killed this subseries off for good, resulting in no new entries being made for it since (except {{DLC}}s and {{Updated Rerelease}}s). Following the release of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosWonder'', which has very little connection to ''New Super Mario Bros.'', it seems that any chance of the subseries getting another brand new entry is unlikely.

Moving from the individual game's page.

* TheMerch: Many modern Mario merchandise is branded with the games' aesthetics.

This is only related to NSMBU instead of being series-wide so moving to the game's page.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: [[http://youtu.be/6wTFy-pJFMI This]] trailer for ''New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe'' shows Mario making playable appearances in ''New Super Luigi U'' levels alongside his bro. In the final game, Mario is still disallowed from appearing in ''NSLU'' content, as he was in the original release.

Fan Nickname is now YMMV.

* FanNickname: The Gold and Blue Toads in ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosWii'' have been given the names Wolley and Yvan, respectively (pronounced "Wally" and "Ivan").
