* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: Done in one strip, where the family's [=iFruit=], while in Sleep Mode, has lascivious dreams about "Ms. Franchise/TombRaider". Since Amend is JustForFun/OneOfUs (and even did a strip where Lara Croft showed up in Jason's dreams), this was presumably done on purpose for the benefit of readers who didn't know Croft by name, only as "that big-breasted chick from the video games".

** In 1996, Amend created a Slug-Man video game credited to Jason Fox, and posted it on his website. It was a re-skinned version of ''Glypha III'', a ''VideoGame/{{Joust}}'' clone for the UsefulNotes/AppleMacintosh.

natter.

** Possible fridge brilliance, it's a computer, it was dreaming specifically about the software itself rather than the main character.

* CreatorBacklash: Bill Amend used to maintain a very elaborate website for [=FoxTrot=], featuring the strip, personal newsletters, merchandise, and even an e-mail portal so fans could have "[=@foxtrot.com=]" addresses. He eventually found this overwhelming and expensive and cut his web presence down to the bone so that only the strip would be featured online for a number of years.

Names The Same is not a trope anymore

* NamesTheSame: '''Jason''' and '''Paige''' shares their name with a certain musician named '''Jason Paige''', who regularly works with Creator/{{Nintendo}} of America and performed the Anime/{{Pokemon}} anime's English theme song and the cover of Steriogram's Walkie Talkie Man on VideoGame/EliteBeatAgents, among other things.

Moving to YMMV. Examples more fit Values Dissonance and Unintentional Period Piece.

* SocietyMarchesOn:
** It's a RunningGag that Andy becomes a GranolaGirl who serves vegetarian meals to her family, much to their consternation because her meat dishes are ''much'' better. With vegetarian meals having entered the mainstream, complete with blogs and entire magazines, Andy would have had more opportunities to become a better cook.
** One series of strips in TheEighties had Jason trying to buy Valentine's cards but the only brands available are ''{{ComicStrip/Garfield}}'', ''{{ComicStrip/Peanuts}}'', and ''[[WesternAnimation/MuppetBabies1984 Muppet Babies]]''. He later calls them "queer" to Peter, a ''very'' off-color and archaic term for the LGBTQ+ community around that time that would probably see the strip in hot water if used in TheNewTens.

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The strip gets most of its humor from jokes about technology and pop culture, so it can get pretty easy to date some strips.
** A 1990 StoryArc featured the family getting a compact UsefulNotes/AppleMacintosh, which looks to be based on the Macintosh Classic.
** A January 1993 strip had Jason dreaming that he found a Macintosh Quadra 950 with 64 megabytes of RAM and a 230-megabyte hard drive as a Christmas gift he forgot to open. Even just a decade later, RAM and storage capacity both were starting to be measured in the gigabytes, to say nothing of what we have another decade or two beyond, like solid-state drives and storage starting to be measured in terabytes.
** One strip from late in the '90s had Jason dress up like an iMac for Halloween; when Peter asks why that would be scary, [[FauxHorrific he's terrified]] when Jason explains "I have no floppy drive!" Floppy drives are almost extinct in modern computers nowadays, floppy disks themselves having long since been supplanted by [=CDs=], [=DVDs=], thumb drives, cloud storage, and even just downloading.
** Several strips around 1999 have Jason showing enthusiasm for ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'', which would [[HypeBacklash become unthinkable]] except for an ironic value after the film came out.
** In an interesting contrast, [[http://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2010/10/31 this 2010 strip]] has Jason dressing up as Creator/GeorgeLucas for Halloween, failing to convince Paige or Peter that it's horrifying because Lucas plans to [[UpdatedRerelease rerelease]] all the ''Franchise/StarWars'' films in [[UsefulNotes/ThreeDMovie 3D]]. The project would be shelved with only ''The Phantom Menace'' being converted to 3D two years later after Lucas sold the property to Creator/{{Disney}}, who decided to focus on [[Film/TheForceAwakens making new movies]] instead of updating the existing ones.
** A [[https://foxtrot.com/2010/03/21/sorry-flash/ March 2010 strip]] jokes about Apple excluding UsefulNotes/AdobeFlash from their devices by having Creator/SteveJobs give the same pitch about the iPad being "the future of comics" to ComicBook/{{Superman}}, ComicBook/SpiderMan, and ComicBook/TheIncredibleHulk, only to then tell ComicBook/TheFlash he's out of luck. Backlash against Flash would quickly reach a head five years later, with Mozilla Firefox moving to actively block the plugin owing to Adobe's typical slow response time to exploits, and at the end of 2020 Flash would be discontinued entirely.
** At the start of another camping arc, Peter freaks out over how desolate the campsite is, saying "This is America! There has to at least be a Blockbuster here!" This was close to when Blockbuster was at its peak, having expanded to nearly 10,000 locations worldwide. As of 2021, only ''one'' Blockbuster is still in business.

* TechnologyMarchesOn: The earliest strips (before the iFruit) showed the family using early Apple computers and Roger admitting he had absolutely ''no idea'' how to use a computer, period, and ignoring it when one was actually added into his office. Nowadays, people will probably view that as TooDumbToLive, but in the 80s, that's not as stupid as you might think - some middle-aged people in the 80s never actually ''did'' use home computers, and not all industries pretty much ''required'' them. This was before Roger went from BumblingDad to flat out TooDumbToLive.
