* TheNicknamer: Some classic examples here, mostly courtesy of Sue White and Guy Secretan. Alan gets likened to [[StarWars C3PO]], while Martin is aptly described as "the love child of Wayne Sleep and Godzilla" or "The King of the Elf-people."

** Sue White ''is'' this trope. The scene in which she makes a clay statue of Dr. Mac and considers differently sized genitalia is but one shining example. She even steals some of his genetic material [[ADateWithRosiePalms while he's comatose]] to try to impregnate herself with his child.

* ADateWithRosiePalms:
** Implied a lot with Guy, and one episodes he tells Martin to "go have a wank in the cupboard. Go on, have a [[UnusualEuphemism hand shandy]], I won't tell anyone." only for him to yell about three seconds later as Martin is walking off, "Martin's having a wank in the cupboard!"

** In one sequence Joanna turns on a vibrating bed and throws herself crotch first onto it.

* ChristmasCake: Joanna is in total denial that she's past her prime, but goes to ridiculous length to keep her actual age a secret, which is why Martin is forbidden to tell anyone they're related.

* BumblingSidekick: Martin.
* {{Buttmonkey}}: Karen and Martin in their respective departments.
** Caroline also qualifies several times.
* BuxomIsBetter: Naughty Rachel. Harriet as well.
** Rachel weighs hers in one episode. Apparently she wants to know how much they would cost to post.
** Caroline makes herself a pair of huge boobs out of bubblebath foam, but then changes her mind.

* ShesGotLegs: Sue and Joanna, in almost every episode.

* AluminiumChristmasTrees: While Sue White is toying with Guy she says that being called Mr is "one above" being called Doctor. Although medics can use the title Doctor after qualifying the exception is members of the Royal College of Surgeons, whose male members are given the title Mr. Becoming a surgeon in the UK is considered one of the hardest career choices in medicine.

* CaptionContest: Statham wins an online caption competition in series two. The joy he gets from this annoys Joanna so she decides to return him to his miserable self and [[spoiler: he murders her dwarf cousin.]]

*** In the second series he wins an online CaptionContest and is really pleased with this (arguably this is the single best thing to happen to him throughout the whole show). Joanna hates how happy he is and decides to give him a real scare, [[spoiler: by having her dwarf cousin hide under his desk and pretend to be a goblin. Statham is really scared and ends up accidentally murdering her cousin; so they now have to cope with the guilt of covering it up and eventually flee the law.]]

* {{Corpsing}}: At the start of series two, during Mac's coma dream, Sue White is walking around in a giant ham suit (because it's Sue) and gets into the lift with everybody else. The lift closes and the audience can hear a zip and Sue saying "Would anybody like some ... ham?" In the bonus DVD material it's shown that the reason only the audio is there is because none of the other actors could do the scene with a straight face.
** When Karen shouts at the HR department for taking advantage of her because she "hasn't got any breasts" the actress playing Karen covers her face.

* LukeIAmYourFather: It is revealed that one of the reasons [[spoiler:Martin can still practice medicine despite being pretty bad is because he is Joanna's unwanted son. Taken UpToEleven during the series one finale with Joanna discovering Guy is her son ''after having sex with him.'']]

* KillEmAll: Not quite, but the finale manages to "take care of" [[spoiler:Angela, Joanna and Dr. Statham]].

* IncestIsRelative: Exploited with hilarity... [[spoiler:and caught on tape. The consequences are dire.]]
* IncrediblyLamePun: Alan is so fond of these it hurts.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Martin.

* MayDecemberRomance: At one point, a mentally-deteriorating Joanna inexplicably wakes up in bed with a 16-year-old schoolboy. (Hilariously, both the boy and his mum seem totally okay with it, the mum even bringing Joanna [[SpotOfTea a cup of tea]] when she comes to wake up her son for school.)

* IAteWhat: Guy steals Sue's lunch one day as she gets a special meal all to herself, only to learn that it's umbilical cord sushi and he leaves to throw up.

* {{Calvinball}}: It's called ''Guyball'' ([[ItIsPronouncedTroPAY pronounced]] ''Gee''-ball) and it is played with a basket upon the head.

* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: Guy's fond of using this one.

''Green Wing'' was a British [[MedicalDrama "medical" drama]] that ran from 2004-2006, and was a mixture of [[PuttingTheMedicInComedic comedy]], bizarre {{soap opera}} and pure absurdity that would make ''Series/{{Scrubs}}'' blush.

* {{Eat The Evidence}}: When Dr. Statham decides to invade the operating theatre.

* {{Even The Guys Want Him}}: Lyndon.

* {{The Fun in Funeral}}: Sue wears a bunny costume to [[spoiler:Angela's]] funeral and Martin shares his thoughts and feelings through the medium of interpretive dance.

* HarpOfFemininity: Angela plays one to Grade 7, while her more [[{{Tomboy}} tomboyish]] housemate Caroline struggles to get a sound out of her flute:

* {{Mistaken For Gay}}: In the special, while Joanna and Alan are hiding out in the caravan park, a man thinks Alan's gay because of "the shorts and 'tache", Joanna doesn't correct him and so the man promptly invites Alan on a walk by the river.

* {{Paper Thin Disguise}}: When Guy is banned from visiting Mac's hospital room he wraps a black sheet round his head and pretends to be a crazy old Greek woman, Caroline is completely oblivious. She catches on after he's left, though.

* {{Stalker With A Test Tube}}: Sue who eventually [[spoiler:gives birth to a lion.]]

** Martin and his father, though neither of them ever realise this.
* StuffBlowingUp: Surprisingly little of this happens, however Alan and Joanna's stolen camper van does explode in the middle of nowhere after Alan tries to change it over from petroleum to fermented vodka and cow shit.

* [[TeamMom Team Mum]]: Harriet, sort of. She does help Caroline get a pen top out of her nose.
* {{Terrible Interviewees Montage}}: When Caroline is looking for a new flatmate.

* CrazyCatLady: Sue White inexplicably has a few scenes in Season 1 riding a camel. She often barks like a dog and once says she will only answer Alan's questions, "In the language of a crow!"

** '''Boyce''' - in a relationship with Kim from HR, yet has a love/hate relationship with Alan. (He flirts with Rachel at times.)

** The show loves this trope. Karen gets her hair stuck in a printer, Guy sticks his hand in a toaster, etc.

* YourCheatingHeart: During Season 2, Harriet reveals her husband is apparently thinking of leaving her for Rosy "pin-legs, slitty-eyes" Kendall. Harriet was having an affair with Lyndon but eventually broke it off because of how guilty she felt towards her unborn child.

* {{Kick The Dog}}: One example is when Guy reads Martin's exam results for him and tells him he's passed with merit. Martin is ecstatic and the room breaks out into a mini-party/celebration, with hugs, booze and face-licking, before Martin goes off on his merry way. Only after he's left does Guy reveal he was "joking", and that Martin failed the whole lot.

* AccidentalPervert: Martin accidentally walks in on Rachel weighing her boobs with a set of scales. His attempts to appear innocuous and disinterested only dig him deeper into the hole.
** He accidentally becomes a pimp in Season 2.

* MeaningfulName: When Sue impregnates herself with Mac's sperm, she names her baby Simba. [[Disney/TheLionKing Besides the obvious reference]], it means "lion," referring to how she calls Mac's hair the lion's mane. However, it get even ''more'' meaningful [[spoiler:as she gives birth to a lion]].

* GayBravado: [[BiTheWay Boyce]] does a lot of this in the company of Dr. Alan Statham. It's initially to {{troll}} him, but the two develop a genuine fondness for each other that might well be romantic. They get a [[spoiler:Big Damn Kiss]] in the series 2 finale.

* BlackAndNerdy: Hospital IT consultant Lyndon Jones, also the show's only token black guy. He is very intelligent and doesn't fall into the stereotypical nerd archetype as he's also a ChickMagnet.

* FunnyBackgroundEvent: When Dr.Statham goes into the Chinese takeaway there is a sign on the counter saying "NO CHEQUE'S" (sic). Later, after he's been in there some time annoying everyone, it's been replaced by a hand-written one saying "NO POMPOU'S TWAT'S".

* FunnyForeigner: Kim's unintelligible Turkish sex slave Murat. He manages to speak enough English to compare Karen to "Queen". Not an actual queen, but Brian May from Music/{{Queen}}.
