El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time) is a Spanish TV series that works with an interesting suggestion: what if there were gates that led to past times, and there was a dedicated Ministry in charge of protecting these gates to prevent their misuse by others with an interest in changing history?

It is 1491. A Jewish rabbi, in order to prevent his expulsion and that of his family, offers to sell Queen Isabel a very important secret in exchange of protection: gates that can allow a person to go to another point in time, with just opening a door and stepping through. The Queen sets up a secret office that will protect these gates, but in the end the rabbi ends up being burned for being a witch.

It is 1596. Alonso de Entrerríos, a Spanish soldier, is in prison, about to be hanged, because he attacked his superior after the latter said that the cause of the massive loss of soldiers was the fault of a badly timed attack started by Alonso, when it is actually the superior's fault. A man offers Alonso the chance to avoid being hanged (replacing him with the superior) by joining a secret office, which he takes, but then he is surprised at seeing a strange watch on the stranger's wrist.

It is 1880. Amelia Folch is one of the first female university students in Spain, and this has caused her no little grief as most of her family and friends consider her a bit mad. During a class on Lope de Vega, someone hands her a note, and she follows the person: it is a woman she catches talking on a strange device that seems to be a phone. After asking her a few questions - and kissing her - the woman offers Amelia a job, and she accepts.

It is 2015. Julián Martínez is an emergency worker that has become a bit of a DeathSeeker ever since his wife died in a hit and run, and, as such, barely any of his partners want to work with him. During an answer to a fire, he enters the building against orders and finds three people dressed in ancient garb, but the roof comes down on him before he can get out. No one believes him when he reports on what he saw, as there was no one else in the building, and he loses his job. But then, a man and a woman approach him and tell him they believe in his story, taking him to an apparently normal building that hides something greater: the Ministry of Time.

El Ministerio del Tiempo is a Spanish TV series that works with an interesting suggestion: what if there were gates that led to past times, and there was a dedicated Ministry in charge of protecting these gates to prevent their misuse by others with an interest in changing history?

El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time) is a Spanish TV series that works with an interesting suggestion: what if there were gates that led to past times, and there was a dedicated Ministry in charge of protecting these gates to prevent their misuse by others with an interest in changing history?

The series was initially known as the expy to certain British time travel adventures though WordOfGod stated that the series doesn't involve cosmic travels nor the future. Instead it had another basis like TheAnubisGates.

The pilot episode had a warm reception among Spanish viewers thanks to its production values, humor and cultural references to the point that it was changed from its original Tuesday schedule to Monday night.

El Ministerio del Tiempo is a Spanish TV series that works with an interesting suggestion: what if there were gates that led to past times, and that there was a dedicated Ministry in charge of protecting these gates to prevent their misuse by others with an interest in changing history?

It is 2015. Julián Martínez is an emergency worker that has become a bit of a DeathSeeker ever since his wife died in a hit and run.

Julián, Amelia and Alonso become the newest team of the Ministry, taking charge of keeping control of the many, many temporal gates existing in Spain, and to prevent people, both in the past and the present, from using them to profit from the changes in history, among them legendary former agent Lola Mendieta, who was thought to have gone missing years ago, but appears to have sold the secret to the French...

!!This series has examples of:
* BadassBureaucrat: a staple of the series, since the characters are all civil servants.
* CastingGag: Queen Isabel (the one that creates the Ministry) is played by Michelle Jenner, as in Series/Isabel. Rodolfo Sancho, who plays Julián, was King Fernando in the same series.
* DeathSeeker: Julián became one after his wife's death. He manages to lose that after joining the Ministry.
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: Alonso comes from a time where patriotism, honor and respecting the given word were important matters. He is surprised to learn that Amelia is the team boss, but defend a woman that he feels is being disrespected.
* HistoricalDomainCharacter: given that this is based on the idea of traveling in time...
* In episode 1, Velázquez and El Empecinado. A gate even leads to the moment when he is painting the famous Las Meninas.
* ImMrFuturePopCultureReference: Julián, as the "youngest" in the team, tends to make many jokes of this kind.
** In episode 1, when he has to register in a 1808 inn, he gives his name as Curro Jiménez (the main character of another Spanish TV series, an outlaw that fought the invading Napoleonic armies).
* IndyPloy: lampshaded by the Special Missions subsecretary.
--> Salvador Martí: We are Spaniards. Improvise!
* MakeWrongWhatOnceWentRight: what the villains seek to do.
* NoPeriodsPeriod: Averted. Irene gives Amelia a tampon and mentions that traveling in time always throws off her period.
* OlderThanTheyLook: most characters, since they are from different ages, will joke about it.
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: the mission of the Ministry, whether it is caused by past-timers seeking the knowledge of the future or future-timers trying to change the past.
* ShoutOut: many.
** In chapter 1, there are mentions to Literature/Alatriste (people jokingly call Alonso this), and Franchise/Terminator.
