''[[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=1 ITT: We Are All Pokémon Trainers]]'', or WAAPT for short, is a {{Pokemon}} PlayByPostGame created by {{Tropers/gamerex27}} on February 7, 2011 where all of the participants are [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Pokémon Trainers]]. The plot starts off with a TalkingHeads bit about all the people randomly showing up in an airport headed to Sinnoh. Then Missingno shows up, turns Canalave City into a mountain of eggs, and Mewtwo shows up to [[TheWatcher tell the group that they need the help of Legendary Pokemon to defeat the Anomaly]]. Things just continue to get more insane from there.

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Tropes #-E]]

* OneHundredAndEight: The amount of Tears in the IK arc purposely added up to 108 to match Spiritomb, a Pokémon fully built around the concept of 108 in Buddhist mythology.
* ABirthdayNotABreak:
** DS and Mezzo's 20th and 16th birthdays, respectively, occur during the time they're stuck in the mindscapes.
** [=PEFeDOS=] during the PMD-R arc is awakened and begins her sadistic testing once again on Tagg's 21st birthday.
** It repeats the next year with Tagg ending up in Ransei 600 years in the past due to [[MakesSenseInContext concentrated April Fools shenanigans]] on his 22nd birthday. Herbert, also in the same situation, has his 16th birthday the next day.
** Straw gets attacked by Shadow!Crewe on his 18th birthday, which was purposely invoked by Aelia ForTheEvulz.
** Sarah was accidentally kidnapped, and subsequently held captive for several days, on her 17th Birthday alongside Ren's Treeko by an Illusion grunt.
** In a mild version of this, Ren has received bad and/or unsettling news for his birthday four years running.
* AbortedArc:
** This happens in general when players leave without tying up all their characters' loose ends.
** The Warriors sub-arc in Holon, due to the player responsible for managing it losing motivation.
** Miniarcs in general that end up going slower than the main RP can become this, if players become disinterested in it before its completion.
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: Tagg theorizes that the creation trio might do this when interacting with mortals, considering their eldritch natures.
* AGodAmI: Downplayed. Eon being a Latios is a species that are considered minor deities IRP, but he appears to have delusions of being on the same tier of power as legends like Groudon and Dialga, and demands that people worship him.
* AbsurdAltitude: During the Unown meeting in the interim between the first Sinnoh Arc and the Unova Arc, the group gets teleported into space, being saved from dying due to the Unown's power. They end up seeing the planet in its entirety before being teleported to the Sinjoh Ruins.
* AccidentalTruth: During his stint as [[EvilOverlord The Ghost Lord,]] Umbra creates a rumor that the one whp unites all of Ransei will unlock the ability to use and master all parts of the Auric Spectrum to throw everyone else off the tracks of his real plan. 600 years later, Umbra is shocked to meet Vierr, who can do exactly that - [[MasterOfNone though very much minus the master part.]]
* AchievementsInIgnorance: For a long time, Daisy's Zoroark, Blacky, was able to use the abilities of the Pokémon he transformed into, even though said transformation is really just an illusion. Blacky seems to have caught on to this as his Illusion ability now works the way it's supposed to work.
* AdaptationExpansion: The RP is mainly based on the universe of the main series games + spinoffs, but it also takes elements from the anime, [[PokemonSpecial manga,]] and even the TCG in the form of the Holon region, certain moves, and the existence of Delta Pokémon.
* AdultFear: Although Diane is not technically an adult, she is still horrified when Annie, her HeadPet Taillow, is almost killed by a giant Bouffalant.
** Aline and her friends getting lost in Hoenn caused a fair bit of this, with Sakura mentioning that her mother got sick out of worry.
* AerithAndBob: Both normal and plain unusual names are common. Ex. Mezzopiano Morendo and Jeff Firelight
* AllLoveIsUnrequited:
** Nudi the Gastrodon [[InterspeciesRomance falls in love]] with Bonnie the Weavile, who unfortunately for him doesn't reciprocate.
** Same thing with Hikari and Des
** And Jacob and Sakura.
** [[IncompatibleOrientation Bishop and Seth.]]
** Elise is heavily implied to have a crush on Straw.
** Meddler/Rebecca has a crush on Crewe, whose feelings for Meddler/Rebecca are purely platonic.
* TheAllegedCar: Tracer owns an old van that seems to operate mainly on the power of hope and prayer going by how rundown it is.
* AlmostKiss: At one point while trying to figure out her feelings for Wolf, DS almost kisses Wolf while [[DudeHesLikeInAComa he's asleep]].
* AllThereInTheManual: Plot points are often discussed in the chat room, Discussion Thread, and Spoiler Text. This includes many cases of WordOfGod.
* AnAssKickingChristmas:
** The fight against Noir and Nihilist Soul takes place on Christmas Eve.
** Darkest Night (An ''Arkham'' series based miniarc) also takes place on Christmas Eve.
* AndIMustScream:
** Cyrus' fate after the AU has ended. And to think [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=3503#87556 Giratina finds it funny]].
** Every being hypnotized into "silence", rendering him practically unable to do anything as it would make noise until the mind control wears off.
** Palkia's dialogue after being restored from her petrification makes it clear that she was conscious the whole time. She doesn't seem too bothered by it, though, apart from having found being a statue to be really boring]
* AndThenWhat: This trope is more or less what led Jane, Tagg, and Anom to become researchers. All three just didn't feel like doing nothing but battling for the rest of their lives.
* AngelUnaware: Some of the legendaries can take the form of normal Pokémon or even humans to observe and deal with mortals. Ho-oh for instance has a tendency to masquerade as a Pidgey.
* AnimalisticAbomination:
** ♨č▒⢫╠␣☣ł₤舸▟, or the Glitch Nidorino, is a representation of the fear of death that merely takes the appearance of the first being it encounters in the material world, in this case being Vinollo the Nidorino. Luckily unlike most other Glitches it's friendly if its mission isn't to beat the fear of death into you.
** The Invisible Shiny Bulbasaur that glitched up Kanto is another Glitch Pokémon.
** Tagg considers a fair number of legendaries to be this trope due to their more eldritch qualities.
** OLD MAN's familiar Weedle Prime.
* {{Animorphism}}:
** Upon entering one of the PMD universes, humans get forcibly transformed into Pokémon.
** A human wearing a human to Pokémon armband will get turned into the Pokémon they relate to most.
** Weremons tend to have involuntary transformations, but due to her enchanted Moon Stone Crewe can switch forms at will.
* AppropriatedAppelation: The fan-term "J-Team" ends up getting adopted by the group as their official name.
* ArcWelding: It's heavily implied - and speculated on by both Umbra and Tagg - that the Demon Mutagen used to create the monsters in the [[{{VideoGame/Okami}} Okamiquest]] sidearc had some connection to the creation of FEV in the {{VideoGame/Fallout}} sidearc due to the latter having very similar, if inferior, effects to the former, though the exact connection has never been revealed.
* ArcWords: A veritable multitude, as many characters have individual ones. For example:
** Pi: ''Take the mask, swear the oath, become something more.''
** Dune: "Criminal". Always capitalized.
** Tagg: "Destiny is never left to chance."
* AsLongAsItSoundsForeign: Sakura and Lyuri's last name, Riese was made because it looked Japanese. It does happen to be a German last name, though.
* AscendedExtra:
** Palkia, who went from just being another legendary to a main character in later arcs.
** Many Pokémon start out as just another member of the trainer's team, but then become more iconic, like Ammy.
** On the human side of things, Hikari qualifies due to initially being just a NPC, but she started appearing often and even participates in some of the stuff the main cast does.
* AscendedFanboy: A lot of J-Team members were originally fans of the group before joining.
* AtopAMountainOfCorpses:
** Red does the G rated version of this with 500 of Lanius' caught goons in [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370a74820100&page=3291#82254 this post.]]
** It happens again with Flonne and Anja in [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=13559#338962 this post.]]
* AttackAnimal: Cipher has a habit of using their mons like this on people.
* {{Attack Of The 50 Foot|Whatever}}...:
** Cowboy: When 'M possesed Clay.
** Hydreigon: This is what Scolipede sics on the Trainers and Napoleon's forces after the attack on N's Castle.
** Tortilla: This rampaged around Dewford Island with little explanation, then was recreated by XANADOS in Lumiose City.
** Espeon: April Fools Day 2013 turned DS into this.
* AwesomeBackpack[=/=]BagOfHolding: Most of the trainers pre-Unova have {{Hammerspace}} backpacks as a gift from Palkia. Sometimes, they use them as tents or sleeping bags.
* BadassCrew:
** The main group, aka the J-Team, regularly coming up on top versus a number of dangerous opponents and containing some of the most skilled trainers in the RP's universe.
** The PEFE Founders, particularly during their takedown of Pokefutures Inc.
** The Extras, a group of vigilantes fighting off Cipher with minimal resources.
* BadassFamily: As found out in the Conquest Arc, several of the J-Team members are related to each other, not counting those who are already siblings.
* BadassOnPaper: Given how battles can be tackled from various angles besides strength or smarts, some Pokémon can end up becoming this. You wouldn't believe ''Dintel'' faced Lelouch and raised LaResistance to stop his invasion of Hoenn until you actually [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=3273#81822 read it through]].
* BagOfSpilling: Tagg's Xatu takes his Unova badges shortly before the Unova-2 arc, forcing him to refight the Gym Leaders in order to get his badges back.
* BalefulPolymorph:
** The Pokemon Trainers all end up turning into Pokemon when they go to the PMD universe.
** During the OI, Fool (while possessed by Majora's Mask) turns three Pokémon poachers into shiny Pokémon.
** Vyvyan the Magma Grunt starts unknowingly transforming into a Rayquaza due to having to keep Depthcharge and Buggle (clones of Kyogre and Groudon) under control. He is later kidnapped by Team Ozone, who speed up the process of his transformation.
* BashBrothers: Gamer and Tagg, many, many times.
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind:
** The mindscape miniarc is chock full of these as the trainers take on their dark sides.
** When Zeal's [=RedEyes=] aspect attempts to use Jirachi to take control of time, Jacob ends up entering his mindscape to try and stop him.
* BiTheWay: A large portion of the cast, including:
** DS
** Mezzo
** Sunny
** Skye
** Diane
** Joseph ''used'' to identify as bi, [[StraightGay but primarily has an interest in guys.]]
** Sarah
** Rebecca/Meddler
* BigBad:
** Missingno, also called The Anomaly and He Who Must Not Be Numbered.
** 'M in the Unova arc.
** Ardos in the Ranger Regions.
** Napoleon in the Alternate Timeline.
*** [[ThanatosGambit DAMN IT, NAPOLEON!!!]]
** Annoski during the Keystone arc.
** [[VideoGame/{{Fallout 1}} The Master]] and [=PEFeDOS=] during PMD-R.
** AU!Alduin in [=RtAU=].
** The Ghost Lord in Conquest.
** Cipher for Unova-2, Holon, and Orre.
* BigBadDuumvirate: Scolipede and Artemis in the AU.
* BigCreepyCrawlies:
** Anom's entire team at the beginning until he branched out following the end of the AU arc..
** Ammy also happens to be a Bug type specialist.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** Jane and her horde of Legendaries in the third arc.
** Wolf and his Swoobat in the eleventh.
** Tagg and a bunch of the other trainers teleporting down to Kanto to help Tracer and his Pokemon fight off a massive murder of Murkrow and their Honchkrow bosses.
** Unite and Reshiram when they go first help with the evacuation of Goldenrod City, then stop an army at Rt. 32.
** DS, the Lake Trio and Palkia during the final battle of the AU arc.
** Lyuri showing up when Duke was having to fight Omega and Titan all on his own, allowing him to Mega Evolve and turn the tides.
* BigLabyrinthineBuilding: PEFE HQ is so big that its dome takes up a good portion of the island it's on, and stretches underground for at least a mile, and has Pokémon that are pretty much no different from wild mons elsewhere inside.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: The Cain-Davis family, of which Herbert and Psyche are probably the two most prominent members. Nearly every member of the extended family that's been shown onscreen is either evil, highly traumatised, just kind of a jerk, or some mixture of the three. The few decent ones almost always seem to end up [[KillTheCutie dead]] or [[BreakTheCutie broken]].
* BigWhat: In the first Sinnoh Arc when Cresselia reveals that she is Darkrai's daughter.
* BilingualDialogue: Human and Pokémon characters talking to one another would count as this most of the time, with the humans speaking either English or other languages and the mons speaking Monese.
* BittersweetEnding:
** The fates of some of the J-Team members that survived the Draconic Uprising in PMD-B match this. The PEFE Founders for instance end up dying of old age unable to change things back, but they do end up laying the seeds to create a timeline fork and manage to raise families of their own.
** The Fallout miniarc ends much like the original game, with the Super Mutants being defeated, but the Vault Dweller being cast out.
** Wolf-B ends up saving AU!DS' life through sending a message through the Adamant Orb... at the cost of his own life.
** The Orre arc ends with Cipher crushed (at least in Orre), but most of the Admins manage to escape justice (though not defeat), a lot of the J-Team members are left with issues, and Siren/Taylor ends up getting killed shortly after undergoing a Heel-Face Turn. On the other hand, Psyche does manage to conquer her own psychological issues...briefly.
* BlackSite: PEFE HQ, which is located on an island in the middle of the ocean where all sorts of science is performed, has no defined location, and has Psychic types and [=PEFEgons=] that prevent it from being found except by PEFE employees and those they bring with them. As a result only the most trusted are allowed to visit, though luckily the organization is fairly benign. Beforehand it was the property of Pokefutures Inc., who used it to perform unethical experiments, some of which were fought during the [=PEFExp=] miniarc.
* BlandNameProduct: For example, Twitter Is Chatter, Kingdom Hearts is Empire Souls, Etc. Sometimes overlaps with HoldYourHippogriffs. A more complete listing is available [[http://waapt.wiki.tropi.us/wiki/Brand_Names on the wiki.]]
* BloodierAndGorier: Unlike the canon series, the RP isn't exactly afraid to show the results of extreme violence when it does happen, though it never really goes into {{Gorn}}.
* BoardingParty:
** During the AU arc, a bunch of the J-Team's mons board one of Lanius' slave ships and manage to rescue the slaves aboard.
** A very well-organized one occurs in AU!Goldenrod when the Pokémon there have to try and counter the initial Draconic offensive, including Ariados-silk cable anchors and feline mons effortlessly climbing them up to the airships above the city.
* BossRush:
** XANADOS made copies of the Giant Tortilla, Annoski, Einroth, Edge, Gyru, Toxicroak, Fade, and [[spoiler:Jane]] for the J-Team members in Xanadu to fight.
* BrickJoke:
** When DS first meets Chase the Pidove, he mentions that his wing was injured by a [[CatsAreMean Purrloin]]. DS eventually catches said Purrloin.
** DS has BrainBleach in her backpack. This is referenced and used many times.
** Chase meets the flock of Pidove that left him behind in Nuvema town after joining the group.
** Briar Rose learns how to bring objects from the Dream World back with her to the real world, and intends to use this information to bring back some berries she had planted in the Dream World. Next time DS sends Briar Rose out of her ball, she has the berries with her.
* BriefAccentImitation: Jane donned a Southern Accent near the beginning. It went away after a while, though it still slips through on occasion.
* BroadStrokes: Since WAAPT evolved from a Forum Game with no real continuity, the defeats of Missingno and 'M are considered canon, but not everything that happened in the interim.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl:
** Herbert and Carol fit this trope to a T.
** Pi and Joseph fit this as well. Of course, this is Brooding Boy, Gentle Other Boy.
* ButtMonkey:
** Gamer is either this or a GaryStu at all times.
** Anom.
** Slouch has his moments.
* CallARabbitASmeerp: Zig-zagged. Most regular animals don't exist, and sometimes an animal is mentioned and the trainers won't know what that is. Other times, they refer to certain Pokémon as the animal they are based off of.
* CarnivoreConfusion: Yes, every Pokemon in the setting is perfectly sapient, and yes, the predatory ones will kill for their food. The prevailing view amongst predators when hunting is to mainly aim for [[AssholeVictim jerks]] and not to revel in the kill.
* CassandraTruth: Jane's mother doesn't believe that [[PalsWithJesus she's friends with Palkia.]]
* CentralTheme:
** An overarching one appears to be that people are people, even when they're not human. Humans and Pokémon are shown in many instances to be NotSoDifferent from one another in both positive and negative aspects.
** By arc:
*** Oblivia: ThePowerOfTrust.
*** AU Arc: ExpendableAlternateUniverse.
*** Mindscape Miniarc: Inner demons.
*** Infinity Keystone: The effects of racism and imperialism, as well as going alone.
*** PMD-R: Civilization continues on, as well as the past vs the future.
*** PEFE Exploration: The light and dark sides of science.
*** Conquest: War, and its effects on the populace. Also, what happens when several expansionist powers happen to share the same region.
*** Holon: Much like [=PEFExp=], though it deals far more heavily with the dark side of science.
*** Orre: Revenge and the consequences thereof, as well as dealing with the consequences of your actions in general.
*** Kalos: Recovery and the difficulties thereof.
*** Ranger-2: The aftershocks of recovery.
%%*** Hoenn-2:
%%*** Re: Glitch:
* CerebusRollercoaster: See SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness.
* CerebusSyndrome: Compared to most of the other arcs, the AU arc took a hard right on the SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness.
* CharacterMagneticTeam: The main group. It's justified in universe due to people with Attributes tending to attract one another.
* ChastityCouple:
** Most of the human couples in the RP do not partake in any sex or even the hint of sex, either due to asexuality or simply feeling uncomfortable with doing it at the current time.
** Umbra and Lina were known to have had sex while they were together, however.
* ChildSoldiers:
** Lanius' forces were mostly made up of mons in adolescence.
** On the heroes side, a lot of AU!Silent's Nidos would also count.
* CelestialBureaucracy: Arceus is normally buried under mounds of paperwork, limiting his direct involvement in the world at large.
* ChekhovsGun: These have been discovered and fired off so often that it's hard to list them all. Some examples include:
** The Adamant Orb that mysteriously appeared in Tagg's backpack being used to summon Dialga to help kill 'M.
** The mural in Mt. Layuda depicting Dialga turning on the other legendaries foreshadowing the AU arc.
* ChessWithDeath: The Spirit Games that get run by the afterlife allow the occasional shot at resurrection.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Some of the trainer's Pokémon have vanished with no explanation.
* CityNoir: Black City, with some elements of the WretchedHive.
* ClipItsWings: A common strategy for dealing with flying Pokémon in the RP is to freeze their wings, causing the mon in question to crash into the ground.
* CloudCuckoolander: The group has obtained several Pokémon like this, such as Goggles the Krookodile.
* TheCloudCuckoolanderWasRight: Goggles the Krookodile has had several moments of this.
* CombatTentacles: One Obscura power is the ability to create tentacle constructs.
* ComingOutStory: Most of the LGBT characters in the J-Team are perfectly open about it, but [[spoiler:Celeste and Sarah]] both struggled to admit to being trans.
* CompellingVoice: Hearts of Gold have the ability to manipulate others using their super empathy, signified in the RP by the use of gold colored text.
* TheConfidant: Nadia the Salamence's [[ChekhovsGun Salamence plushie]], Toothless, who helps her cope with her inability to fly. Goes on the way to become a CompanionCube.
* ConservationOfNinjitsu: Our heroes regularly end up blasting or beating their way past veritable hordes of Pokemon, but can be given a fair amount of trouble when fighting one on one.
* ContinuityLockout: The RP's heavy continuity can make it a bit difficult for newer people trying to get into the loop, especially during a plot-heavy arc, but the RP generally tries to be welcoming to people when they join.
* ContinuityNod:
** The events of the games are often referenced, especially by characters who were there to witness the events.
** The in-universe J-Team vs Capcom game {{Boss Rush}}es are big ones to characters that have long since departed.
** When explaining to Dune, Deziree, Lyuri, and Duke about Mew, Tagg references the time during the Hoenn arc when Gamer ended up striking Mew.
** After the strangeness of the last couple April Fools, people start treating them with wariness.
** Tagg tends to like visiting the spots of previous events for old time's sake.
** During the Hoenn-2 arc, numerous hotels still deny J-Team members service due to what happened four years ago.
* ConvectionSchmonvection:
** Inverted and Subverted at the same time; it is very cold in Snowpoint Temple, and everyone reacts to it.
** Played straight when Tagg and Gamer go through the gauntlet of a Pokemon-themed version of SuperMarioBros, due to Palkia having a hangover. Both Tagg and Musashi the Samurott lampshade it.
** Definitely subverted with Heat Shield, which kills things through sheer heat.
** Subverted in a volcano module in PEFE, the group needing a Safeguard to be protected from the heat and Tagg mentioning this trope.
* CoolAirship:
** The Alakagross civilization had quite a few, which the dragons in the AU base their airships on.
** Team Glacier has an airship piloted by Shadow.
** The J-Team in general acquires an abandoned damaged Illusion Project airship and makes it their own, which becomes even cooler once it's upgraded at PEFE HQ.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: The judgments handed out by the Cubone tribe during Tangent, Tagg, Tracer, and their Pokemon's "Trial by Bonemerang". Examples include having to give all the kids in the tribe a ride (Tagg's Garchomp) and being unable to use Yache Berries for a month. (Gaia, Tagg's Torterra.)
* CountryMatters: Kyrie is rather fond of this word, especially in regards to [[ArchEnemy Paula]].
* CreatorCameo: In order to convey the correct amount of surprise in [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=18585#464601 this]] post, Jacob's author made a gif of himself doing Jacob's expressions.
* CreepyDoll: The Shadow plushie, which keeps showing up no matter how Forte and the real Shadow try to get rid of it.
* CulturalPosturing:
** "Civilized" mons in general within PMD-B tend to look down on "ferals", those mons who decided to continue living as their ancestors did, considering them little more than beasts.
** Cubone from different regions tend to do this to one another, such as members of the Sinnoh and Kanto tribes considering each other savages due to the presence or lack thereof of Trial by Bonemerang.
* CurbStompBattle: Tons, mostly delivered by the heroes. Some examples include:
** Pretty much every time the group goes up against [[{{Mooks}} the local Grunts or Peons.]]
** Nudi's first battle with Sonny, Tracer's Honchkrow, with him on the receiving end.
** Rex has hinted that his battles against Clair and Blue were this for him, with him on the receiving end.
** 49 losing to Winona.
** Pallad alone against Lance's entire team, in his favor.
** Shadow!Duke against Herbert AND his entire team is a particularly brutal one.
* CuteAndPsycho:
** Fool has some violent tendencies as a result of her upbringing in a Simipour troop, though they've abated due to being more used to the modern world.
** Kyrie is quite cute outwardly, and is childishly enthusiastic about a number of things, especially music. She is also mentally ill and incredibly violent.
* CuteCrittersActChildlike: A lot of the more adorable mons are like this.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: They did in the case of the main opponents Tagg and some of the others faced off against during the [=PEFExp=] miniarc, cybernetic Pokémon that had been lobotomized into fighting machines by Pokefutures.
* DarkerAndEdgier:
** WAAPT in general deals with heavy subjects such as racism, imperialism, and gender identity, and villains like Cipher are far more explicitly playing for keeps.
** The alternate timeline is much darker than the OU, with first Napoleon cutting a bloody swath across Unova and the Seven Jerk Dragons in [=RtAU=] attempting what amounts to PG-rated genocide on the human race.
** Tagg's solo adventures tend to have a darker undercurrent than the main RP since he tends to fight groups like the Unity and Cipher who are far more ruthless than run of the mill villains.
** The Conquest Arc is also fairly dark in some aspects due to the BlackAndGreyMorality involved.
** The Orre arc was the darkest arc the RP has seen since the AU, with quite a few deaths, a mass killing, trauma for nearly everyone involved, and the full ruthlessness of Cipher falling on the heads of a J-Team unprepared to handle it.
* DeaderThanDead:
** Missingno and 'M end up being destroyed in every verse due to the OU J-Team defeating them.
** What happens to Napoleon in the AU after the souls of the Midori Room mons maul his soul, tearing it to shreds. Though Snowball does end up using said shreds to create Icelus, Napoleon himself is gone.
* DeathIsCheap: When Gamer's Serperior was killed by David, he came back to life as a Duskull. Also, Daisy's Charizard is killed by a madman behind the madness in Canalave City. It then re-appears the next day as a Gastly.
* DeathWorld:
** Quest Island, which is filled with dangerous Pokémon like Tyranitar and Skarmory, as well as having a easily awakened volcano. The Cubone tribe patrols in other regions are done by ''Marowak'', and infant and child mortality is at a very high rate.
** Other examples include post-Distortion Sinnoh in the AU, and both the AU and OT Giant Chasm.
* DemonicPossession:
** Assumed to be done by Missingno in an attack on Canalave in the original Sinnoh Arc. Turns out it was just a Gastly, though. Prior to the first PMD Arc, though, the real Missingno pulls this on Palkia.
** It also happened ''a lot'' during the Unova arc. The victims included Steven Stone, Iris, Clay, Alder, and Jane.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: "Emergency Exit: Only To Be Used In Emergencies".
* DependingOnTheWriter: The characterizations between the various legendary Pokémon and other [=NPCs=] may vary depending on who is currently writing for them.
* DestructiveSavior: The J-Team tended to cause mass property damage in its battle against evil, until getting banned from hotels in Hoenn forced them to be a bit more tactful.
* DeusExMachina:
** Justified and Invoked in the first and second Arc.
** Happens again in the third, but this time is only HandWaved. Dialga shows up with its legs tied together by Regirock, [[ItMakesSenseInContext who had gone out to get adamantium for Regice.]]
** Satella, Eve's Cleffa, bails her and her friends out from a Manectric attack by using Metronome to teleport them all away, though it resulted in them getting lost. Turns into a DiabolusExMachina when the same thing happens when they're reunited with some members of the team and ends up making them get lost for a few more days.
* DieChairDie: Palkia makes a comeback after Missingno's first defeat in order to punch the living daylights out of a bunch of pillars.
* DiscoveringYourOwnDeadBody: When Tagg visits the PMD-B timeline he comes across the skeleton of his multiversal counterpart, entombed for 600 years after he died of old age. He chooses not to attempt attaining his memories because he figures it might be too traumatic.
* DisneyDeath:
** Happens to Cynthia near the end of the PMD arc, and to Jane, Wolf and Pentigan during the battle against 'M and Team Plasma at the Pokémon League.
** DS is seemingly killed by Primal Dialga in a flashback, but unbeknownst to everyone, Dialga was able to resist Cyrus' orders and instead sent DS to the dimension in which the legendaries had been imprisoned.
** Straw has experienced this enough times that he is pretty much unfazed by it.
* DieOrFly: Auric and Obscuric abilities tend to be learned very quickly by those stuck in life and death situations.
* {{Doorstopper}}: As of June 4, 2015 the main RP thread is about 18,281 pages and counting, and text-only versions of single forum pages on the main thread alone can be in the range of 5-8 pages. A conservative estimate of the amount of printed pages would be about 129,000 pages and counting.
* DontGoInTheWoods: Tagg lives next door to an area known as the Sea of Trees, which happens to be based on Aokigahara, the infamous suicide forest, and possesses a similar reputation. It's infested with hostile Ghost types and the souls of those who have died in the forest.
* DraggedOffToHell:
** Umbra had the ability to banish people to the Distortion World back when he was the Ghost Lord of Spectra.
** Tagg gets rid of the Sinnoh Family of Blood branch by having Groudon take them... somewhere else.
* TheDragonslayer: Inka somehow gets this fame after curbstomping Lance's haxxest Dragonites (you know the ones) in {{backstory}}. However, by the time of the Draconic Uprising in the AU timeline, she is forced to [[RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething live up]] to the title.
* TheDreaded: A number of the Trainers, including Luke, Tracer, and Tagg, gain this status during the AU arc after curb stomping their way past hordes of Scolemis grunts.
* {{Dramedy}}: The story is mostly humorous, though it can take some dark turns.
* DreamLand: The Pokemon Dream World, a collective unconsciousness made from every Pokémon there ever was.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: Seems to happen quite a bit. DS lampshades it.
* DressingAsTheEnemy:
** The trainers do this to infiltrate the Altru Tower in Almia.
** Tagg and the Vault Dweller end up doing it in PMD-B Angela in order to infiltrate the Cathedral.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: Upon finding a treasure room which turned out to be Larva and Metentis' summer house, Brudy was abruptly eaten by Larva the Cofagrigus after Metentis the Dusclops told her she couldn't have any servants.
* DyingDeclarationOfLove: Mira to Artemis in the AU arc, after the former is fatally injured after receiving a stab wound meant for the latter.
* DysfunctionJunction: A lot of the trainers have serious issues of some kind. Some examples include:
** Tagg, who has social issues, PTSD as a result of his experiences during the AU arc if not long before, and has admitted to DS that he only really feels comfortable InHarmsWay.
** Lyuri, whose parents died in a cave-in thanks to an Earthquake caused by Riku the Sandslash and were separated for several years. [[FromBadToWorse And then Orre happened]]. In the AU Lyuri is the last member of her family since Sakura ended up dying too, leaving her a BrokenBird. This does not apply to her sister, Sakura, though, as even though she shares the backstory, she doesn't have any lasting issues other than feeling guilt over the death of her parents.
** Herbert, whose father is a Team Galactic commander who was still a better parent to him than his mother, who acted as if he didn't exist.
** Jacob, who was orphaned when his parents were murdered and had his girlfriend killed by a Scizor. He also happens to be a bit unstable.
** The Amarin family, consisting of Alli, a girl who seems relatively normal, [[StepfordSmiler but hides the trauma of losing her mother when she was just eight years old]]; Eskay/[[spoiler:Sarah]], her older brother/[[spoiler:sister]] who saw the aforementioned death firsthand as well as almost dying the same way himself six years later, along with having accidentally murdered a Cipher Peon in a fit of rage despite having promised to never kill anyone ever, resulting in full-blown PTSD (which is only amplified by his empathic powers); and Ivy/Ellen, the dead mother in question who came back as an amnesiac Delta Golett and only regained her memory by witnessing the aforementioned attempted murder of her son.
** Wolf, who was 'M's thrall for nearly ten years prior to the beginning of the RP, though he's managed to get past that.
** Psyche, whose father was abusive and disowned her after she got mauled by Scrafty, leading to her CynicismCatalyst.
** Alyssa, ''another'' PTSD victim whose parents were killed by a fire, leaving her orphaned and lost in the wilderness with no social skills, along with leaving her with a haunting phobia of fire.
** Crewe, who apart from being actually a Sneasel in human form, has a lot of issues regarding so many of her mons leaving or dying on her as well as possible PTSD from both that getting shadowed and nearly killing Straw in Orre.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The earliest arcs (Sinnoh through Unova) are far different from the RP today, due to it being originally a forum game with no real continuity that evolved into an RP. WordOfGod says that was due to Missingno and 'M's mere existence making the world of WAAPT a far stranger place than it is in future arcs in-universe.
* EarnYourHappyEnding:
** The AU arc. Its plot reaches numerous [[CrapsackWorld dark]] and [[AnyoneCanDie overwhelming]] moments before its ultimate (and satisfying) resolution.
** Sakura lost her parents and had her sister go missing, she spent a good four years looking for her and feeling very guilty about everything that happened, she eventually finds her, they're in good terms with each other, and she even got a boyfriend soon after, while she does occasionally have more problems, they're either minor ones or don't take as much time to be solved.
* EarthIsABattlefield: Not a single region on the planet manages to escape war during the Draconic Uprising in the AU.
* EasilyForgiven:
** The only members of the J-Team that seem particularly bothered about Umbra's past as an EvilOverlord are Herbert and Sakura. It helps that it took place 600 years ago and Umbra isn't the same person he was back then.
** Likewise, the only members of the J-Team who don't quickly forgive Tagg for slaughtering dozens of Cipher Peons are Herbert, Mezzo, and Sarah. And the only member of the team who still holds a grudge against Lyuri for her crimes as Alexia is Herbert. [[NoSympathyForGrudgeholders Sensing a trend here?]]
* EldritchAbomination:
** The Anomaly aka Missingno and 'M, biological supercomputers whose mere presence warps reality.
** The imprisoned being found in the deepest recesses of the Blacklight Caverns in the Orre Badlands in Dune's backstory, which he only barely escaped from, at the cost of his mind being scarred and incapable of being touched by any kind of telepathy. Known as the "Criminal", due to the runes in hundreds of languages stating the word around its prison.
** "The Duke" and "The Prince", two possessing spirit things, the first in Pi's head, the second in the head of the villain Mortimer.
* EldritchLocation:
** The Distortion World, like in Platinum.
** The dimension where the heroes took on Missingno for the first and last times.
** Glitch City, 'M's home dimension.
** Some of the Mindscapes
* {{Elseworld}}: Many, but the two most often seen are the AU created from Cyrus' time tampering, and the Another!Verse (Based on The World Ends With You's Another Day mode), a LighterAndSofter version of WAAPT.
* EnemyWithin: The boss of each trainer's mindscape during the Mindscape Miniarc tends to be their inner dark side.
* EnsembleCast: While certain characters can gain more prominence than others depending on the arc, the RP lacks a defined main character.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment:
** All three of the Scolemis generals have these moments to show exactly what kinds of mons they are, in particular Lelouch's case.
** Minty, Rex's Sewaddle, goes from BitCharacter to AscendedExtra this way.
** Zack, Lyuri's Floatzel, had one of these after the Bubble Shield incident with Riku.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: When Gamer is temporarily Gender Bent in the 2nd April Fools day event, he/she is flirted with from everything, from an [[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIIIMorrowind Ash Creature]] to a [[Series/DoctorWho Weeping Angel.]]
* EvilIsBigger: Upon a census of the current villains, it was discovered that on average they were at least three inches taller than the average J-Team member.
* ExcitedTitleTwoPartEpisodeName: Some of the J-Team show episodes have a format like this. Examples include "Assault! Storming The Sky Fortress!" and "Splash! Attack of the 50 Foot Vaporeon!"
* ExpendableAlternateUniverse: Lelouch during the AU takes this view when he finds out its true nature, and tries to have Primal Dialga destroy it so that he can have his sister back.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes F-J]]
* FamousLastWords:
** "Hey.....there really is a tunnel....with a pinprick of light. They were right after all." PMD-B Gamer/Joshua
** "''Heh... At least... I never let them know... Who my true master... Was...''" Ninetails
* FamilyUnfriendlyViolence:
** Tagg's at the time newly evolved Hydreigon viciously mauling a Pokemon Pincher in revenge.
** The entire PEFE flashback where Tagg, Tracer, and Silent had to defend themselves from a bunch of Swablu and Altaria poachers in Hoenn and end up setting their Pokemon on them.
** AU!Fool horribly mauling a trainer and his Pokemon by ordering her Pokemon to ''tear him to shreds''.
** Maekrite ''willingly'' submits to a (relatively public) torture session when Silent gets hurt in the AU.
** Aelia and Kyrie end up getting nasty scars and losing an eye, respectively, fighting the J-Team.
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath:
** Yanmega's ultimate fate, getting eviscerated by Zoroark so badly that all Anom could find was a bit of carapace.
** Scolipede's Seismitoad's [[KarmicDeath death]] by Stunfisk school electrocution.
** Napoleon's forces killing off Mezzo's mons during the assault on Black City.
** Stitch the Lapras dies from getting his neck blown wide open during the Battle of Castelia.
** Biscuits the Crobat gets immolated by a Flygon during the Battle of Castelia.
** Clover the Alakazam dies in the AU from Tagg's Hydreigon ripping his throat out during the battle at N's Castle.
** Tagg describes watching a Aggron managing to [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe rip a Tyranitar in half]] on one of his research trips.
** The Lieutenant dies from taking an Earthquake to the head from Emperor!Archeops in Tracer's body and ends up starting to liquefy like his counterpart from ''VideoGame/{{Fallout}}'' before getting telekinetically hurled into a vaporizing forcefield by Ana.
** Jacob ends up stabbing a Scizor with a sword after it kills his girlfriend in a flashback. Complete with the sound of the exoskeleton shattering!
** Ivy/Ellen Amarin's death involved getting stabbed by a Toxicroak, and bleeding out along with the deadly poison right in front of her own son. Eskay almost receives the same fate, but is quickly saved by Ellen herself, BackFromTheDead as Femata the Delta Golurk.
** Ninetails dies from Tagg disemboweling her after Ammy and Herbert slice off all of her tails.
** Deimos receives the nasty fate of being ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice by Sarah in a blind rage.
** Odin gets [[JustDesserts eaten alive by Ilya]] after she's freed from her mind control.
* FamedInStory: In the PMD-B timeline, 600 years after the events of the AU arc, certain events of the Scolemis War are still venerated centuries later. Examples include:
** A museum in Vermillion having the very same washing machine used as a space tunnel in Tracer's house.
** A museum in Opelucid containing the skull of Kaijudreigon's main head on display.
* FantasticRacism:
** The Litwick and Elgyem members of the Celestial Tower do not get along.
** Delta Pokémon are often seen as freaks by non-mutated mons.
** Due to the Seven Jerk Dragons's part in trying to usurp the legendaries and more or less genociding humanity in the PMD-B timeline, Dragon types in general are often treated as second class citizens outside of Hoenn, which is more or less persona non grata due to other mons seeing it as merely a continuation of the Seven Jerk Dragons's rule due to a quirk of the mon bombs rendering most transfigured humans Dragon types.
** Faithful the Salamence was originally prejudiced against non-dragons.
** Cubone line members in general tend to be wary of non-Cubone, referring to them as "fiends" due to the fact that most other species prey on them.
** Axew and Deino line members in the wild will kill one another on sight, leading to Tagg's Hydreigon having a prejudice against Vektor the Delta Fraxure, as well as Axew line members in general.
** Gyru the Bronzong despises all organic mons as well as humans, considering them beneath him.
** The Ghouls of PMD-B Angela tend to dislike all non-Ghost types.
** In the PMD-B timeline and within the Return to AU arc, the draconic forces heavily discriminate(d) against non-dragons in their ranks and in general, with the goal of exalting themselves above humans and other mons in general as the rulers of a mon-only world.
* FantasyConflictCounterpart:
** Angela (An analogue of Southern California) once took water from up north in an analogue to the California Water Wars of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
** Lina has participated in analogues of the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs and World War I, and one of Tagg's great-grandfathers was a veteran of the latter conflict.
** Victini was used as a nuke in the WAAPT analogue to World War II, with some shrine Xatu in Ever Grande also hinting towards the conflict.
** The purge of the Obscurics in Sinnoh and other regions is an analogue to the Japanese displacement of the Emishi and Ainu peoples.
* FantasyGunControl: Averted. While rarely seen outside law enforcement and criminals, firearms do exist in this universe.
* FireForgedFriends:
** The group as a whole would also count as their friendship deepened through their mutual experiences fighting evil.
** Cinder and Lake in the AU go this way, as they realize they share having gone through many of the events that marked their lives with their Trainer, they just happen to see it differently. Somewhat lampshaded when they remember their challenges of ''Whitney''.
** Tagg and Herbert start being more friendly towards one another as they travel through Ransei with Ammy, though this was unfortunately undone in the Orre arc.
* FisherKingdom: Type 2. The two PMD universes will turn any human who enters them into a Pokémon of some kind.
* FiveManBand: In the beginning it worked like this, but after the group got a lot more members it became closer to TheTeam. The breakdown pre-Oblivia worked like this:
** Anom and Jane switched between TheHero and TheLancer depending on the situation.
** Daisy and Gamer were HerCodenameWasMarySue.
** Tagg and Pentigan shared a role as TheSmartGuy, since they tended to know the most about the world at large.
** Luke, DS, Crewe, Wolf, and Fool all inhabited SixthRanger status due to not being part of the group who fought David and Missingno for the first time.
** [[SelfDeprecation Slouch]] was TheLoad.
** Meddler was the TagalongKid, being the youngest in the group before Forte and later Fortis showed up during the OI and IK Arcs respectively.
* FixedRelativeStrength: While as a whole the group is made up of powerful trainers, with even the weaker members often having at least one league under their belt, some are indeed just leagues (pun not intended) ahead of others.
* FollowTheLeader: Has already spawned a {{snowclone}}.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** Too many examples to count. Often comes in the form of someone TemptingFate.
** A sweeter form of it though with the BreatherArc foreshadowings during the AU.
* FourLinesAllWaiting: Aside from the main plot of an arc or arcs, there can also be numerous subplots, including ones taking place far from the region the bulk of the J-Team happens to be in at the time.
* FreakyFridayFlip:
** Happened three times from Sinnoh to Unova-1, first with Jane and Palkia, the second time with DS and Artemis and the third with Daisy and Pink. A weird variation of this also seemed to happen between Jane and Entei.
** Happens yet again with Anom and Wolf, due to a Manaphy. Unlike the other examples, it's played as a more serious major plot point rather than a brief joke, and lasted for pretty much the whole Oblivia arc.
** This later happened in Kalos when a particularly "playful" Obscuric being decided to swap Mezzo and Eskay's minds. This ended up causing a small amount of chaos, especially when the fix turned out to be a kiss.
** Deziree, Psyche, and Pentigan end up switching bodies for a brief period during the Fiore portion of Ranger-2.
* FreeRangeChildren: Pretty much all of the characters that are or were minors starting out would count as this. Bonus points go to Amber and Remy for not even being in the double digits when they started.
* FriendOrIdolDecision: During the finale of the Orre arc, Tagg finds himself having to choose between killing Tokarev, or rescuing DS, who is in danger of falling to her death into a pool of lava. He chooses to save DS, in the process realizing how much his desire for revenge against Cipher had consumed him as he actually had to think about whether to save one of his closest friends or not.
* FunWithAcronyms:
** '''Generic Announcer Guy''' ends up being shortened to '''GAG''', '''Mysterious Old Man''' is shortened to '''MOM''', and "The Minigame Idiot" becomes "TMI".
** JustForFun/ThePokedexExtendedFanonEdition also gets three or four (b)ackronyms during their cameo, such as ''PEFE Eclectic Fighting Exhibition'', which is also a RecursiveAcronym.
** ''[[VideoGame/{{Portal}} PEFeDOS]]'': PEFE Division of Observation and Sanitization.
* {{Geek}}: Due to the [[MostTropersAreYoungNerds demographics of the playerbase]], most of the J-Team is comprised of geeks and nerds of all kinds.
* GenderBender:
** This happened far more often than it needed to inside Twist Mountain. Wolf and Pentigan still suffered from this after leaving the mountain for a few days before eventually being returned to normal.
** Pentigan's amulet has this function. At one point during the OI arc, he ended up accidentally losing it and leaving himself, Anom and Fool stuck as the opposite genders.
* GenderIsNoObject: Males and females are treated exactly the same IRP, save for Lanius' misogynistic forces in the AU arc.
* GenreRoulette: Themes can change from arc to arc. Compare the DarkerAndEdgier AU with the OI arc directly after it for example.
* GentleGiant: Many large and imposing Pokémon are like this.
* GodModeSue: [[invoked]] Einroth is an in-universe parody of such characters.
* GondorCallsForAid: Tangent and Tagg's Xatu manage to gather a large amount of peoplemons that the J-Team has helped in order to help prevent Cipher from taking Gateon Port at the climax of the Orre arc.
* GoryDiscretionShot: We don't see Tagg murdering dozens of Cipher Peons as a threat toward the Admins of Cipher and as revenge for what the organization did to him about six years before the start of the RP during the Orre arc plus what they did during the arc, but we do see its aftermath.
* GossipEvolution:
** Happens when the wild Pokémon around the Orange Islands talk about Algira after she becomes a wanted mon for eating some of the bug Pokémon on the islands. Algira goes from just another predator to a monstrous demon hellbent on devouring every Bug Pokemon on the islands.
** Happens again when Latias begins searching for Pentigan's lost GenderBender amulet so he, Anom and Fool can be returned to normal. This eventually leads to the wild Pokémon searching for a non-existant Soul Dew because they think Latias will reward them with a lifetime's supply of Oran Berries if they can help her find it.
* GreaterScopeVillain:
** Cipher serves as one for the entire RP in general, often acting through proxies instead of fighting the J-Team directly, having a hand in the backstories of several characters, and even created 'M which antagonized the J-Team during the Unova arc. For Orre, they end up becoming the BigBad of the arc.
** OLD MAN's nemesis, the Magikarp Salesman, a powerful demon who doesn't really concern himself with the J-Team's antics at all.
** The Seven Jerk Dragons serve as this for the PMD-R arc. While they don't make a direct appearance, their actions are directly responsible for the state of PMD-B when J-Team members visit it.
* GrimUpNorth:
** AU Sinnoh, post-Distortion.
** Even in the OU, the Sinnoh North is a cold and foreboding place.
** Tagg and the others end up traveling even farther north in order to defeat Annoski at the Cathedral.
** Nixtorm and Spectra are two of the northernmost countries in Ransei, and the homes of the main antagonists, Wolf's ancestor Yusei and the Ghost Lord respectively.
* GroinAttack:
** One of many things the Seismitoad jailer inflicts upon Anom. Not played for laughs, obviously.
** Jay did this to Eskay while trying to escape from the group.
** Lyuri did this to Vrang as retribution for him ordering his Pokémon to use Thunder Wave on her, Sakura helped and Des approved.
** In another example that is not played for laughs, Odin does this to Ren with a cattle prod during an interrogation.
* HalfHumanHybrid:
** Anyone who manages to transform into a Pokemon has their DNA slightly changed to become part Pokémon once they turn back. It has not been directly confirmed but it is likely the same for any Pokémon that transforms into a human.
** April Fools 2013 had this happen to Sakura and Lyuri, mirroring the Pokémon [=RéBURST=] transformations, they became an Arcanine and a Lucario, respectively.
* HalloweenEpisode: [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=4271 It begins here]] as several trainers are invited to [[Anime/PokemonTheFirstMovie New Island's Castle]] for a party. Weird stuff begins to happen when Basket (Tangent's Tropius) unleashes a metaphysical agent that [[TheVirus turns anyone in contact into a]] [[MythologyGag Charizard ’M]] and gives them [[HiveMind instant mental messaging]]. Chaos ensues as the hivemind [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=4290#107235 compels the infectees]] to spread the virus by force. Random highlights include:
** Anom and others pranking Gym Leaders with a RealityWarping phone.
** Aqua the Vaporeon being sad that she is no longer a Water-type Pokémon.
** Ori and Pentigan battling over the sprinkler system to spread either more virus or a cure.
** Woolly going into a sort of CaffeineBulletTime to defeat some Charizards.
** Tangent and Silent using their new forms [[ForSCIENCE for scientific testing]]
** ''Gyru'', a mechanical Pokémon with a robotic superiority complex, is turned thus becoming an organic, inferior being (to add salt to the wound, it has to ''eat'' to be cured).
* HardLight: Moves like Reflect and Barrier can be made to work like this. [[BadassBookworm Sol]] uses them to redirect light, reroute fluids and attacks, and shelter Trainers during battle. Auric constructs work in a similar manner.
* HarmlessFreezing:
** This trope is in effect most of the time, DS [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] it several times.
** Subverted when Ghetsis orders Kyurem to freeze everyone to death.
** Also subverted when Jane gets frozen. She gets melted out, but she ends up with a cold.
* HaveYouSeenMyGod:
** Arceus temporarily resigns from his position after the 'M ordeal. OLD MAN and Weedle Prime are put in charge for the interim.
** In the alternate timeline, the Nidoran colony not registering sighting of their god, Ho-Oh, for a long time is one of the reasons behind Inka convincing Silent to militarize the colony.
* HeadPet:
** Sunny the Umbreon makes a nice hat. And he can block mind-reading too!
** Turns into a RunningGag with Silent's mons as most of them have traded the position or openly fought over it.
** Annie, Diane's Taillow companion, will only touch the actual ground if she's unconscious; otherwise, her chosen nest is the nearest person's hair.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower:
** Hearts of Gold have super empathy, a CompellingVoice, and the ability to use an EmotionBomb.
** Magic Guard renders Selene the Clefable immune to poison darts.
** Safeguard can guard against toxic gases and temperature extremes as well as status moves.
** The often overlooked move Round was used at Tagg's Vanilluxe's suggestion to disorient a Soulless T-Rex in AU!Sinnoh.
* HeroicBSOD: Several characters have gone through this in the past.
* HeroInsurance: Averted, the trainers end up getting banned from a number of Hoennese hotels due to their destructive antics, or to be more exact, their Pokemon's antics.
* HeroicSacrifice: During the final battle against 'M, Anom (who had his DNA become unstable after the events at Twist mountain) tricks 'M into absorbing him, which destroys 'M's anti-legendary shield and allows the legendary Pokémon to join the battle and finish of 'M once and for all. Anom ended up DeaderThanDead, until the legendary Pokémon figured out how to [[BackFromTheDead bring him back after a week]].
* HeroWithBadPublicity:
** The legendaries accidentally destroying the Sky Fortress didn't sit well with its wild Pokemon population.
** The main group gets this so badly at one point that Pokepan hotels start denying them service, starting with Hoenn.
* HumanlikeAnimalAging: Zigzagged, while most species of Pokémon can live at least as long as humans, and others live shorter or even longer lives (With ghosts and inorganic mons being immune to death by old age), Pokémon generally physically and mentally mature at an accelerated rate compared to humans.
* HumanityEnsues:
** Audilith was turned human as a result of the Glitch Area in Twist Mountain. She was not very fond of it, deciding she'd rather not be human again.
** A common thing to happen to Pokemon on April Fools Day.
* HumanoidAbomination: The Magikarp Salesman, who's actually a powerful demon and the ArchEnemy of OLD MAN.
* IdenticalStranger: Wolf and N look almost exactly alike. When they briefly met in Almia, Wolf didn't notice the resemblance at first. He was a bit creeped out by it once it was pointed out.
* IfYoureSoEvilEatThisKitten: Mezzo challenged A to kill a Patrat during the AU arc. A refused to go through with it.
* IHaveManyNames:
** Missingno, also known as The Cinnabar Anomaly, The Anomaly, He Who Must Not Be Numbered, It, The Unnumbered One.
** AU!Alduin, the World Eater, Kingsbane, and God of Destruction, much like his [[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim namesake.]]
** Lugia, also known as the Great Dragon, the Guardian of the Sea, the Leviathan, Singer in Darkness, He of the Silver Wings, Soulstorm, the Fulcrum, the White Wanderer, the Living Moonlight, the Prince of the Sea, and The Titan of the Abyss.
** Dialga, also known as the Archwyrm, the Chronosaur, Father Time, King over the Mountain, Master of the Fates, Doom, and Lord of Time.
** Palkia, also known as Epoch, the Spatiosaur, Mother Earth, Queen Regnant of the Eyes, Maîtresse sur les routes[[labelnote:*]]Mistress of the Roads[[/labelnote]], and Birth.
** Arceus, referred to as the Alpha and the Many Armed One, among other names.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: Attempted several times, but the only time it actually worked was during the battle against Kyurem.
* ImagineSpot:
** Hilariously used when Every is going to take the Jade Orb from Team Glacier and he ponders about handing it over [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=5273#131821 to trustable people, like (Nihilistic!)Tagg or (Punisher!)DS]].
** Another had by Lucius after Crow asks him if his Fighting-types would be up for helping Gogie get over his fear of them.
** Another had by Crow during the Orre Arc, imagining that Titan {{Heel Face Turn}}ed and fixed a lot of problems the J-Team was going through
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Jane tries [[GrievousHarmWithABody using her Gallade as a melee weapon]] at one point. Also, during a flashback to DS' journey through Sinnoh, she uses a hair dryer to knock a member of Team Galactic unconscious.
* ImpromptuTracheotomy: One of the Mincinno in Rommel's invasion force during the AU arc gets stabbed through the neck by Vinollo the Nidorino during the Battle of Goldenrod.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath:
** Teresa and Jacob, after the latter was hit by a wild Pokémon's Toxic. He does end up getting cured though.
** AU!Tagg has one of these in the PMD-B timeline, which likely influenced his decision to entomb himself in his vault with the Adamant Orb.
* InfantImmortality: Averted, kids can get seriously hurt and in some cases have even died IRP. Examples include:
** Forte ends up getting his arm broken by an Armortomb and in the AU is killed by a Bisharp.
** Fortis dying in the AU and getting reincarnated as a Drifloon.
** When Kat and Rising Star visit the Route 9 Tribe's graveyard, the grave of a young Cubone can be seen.
** Tagg offhandedly mentions that the mortality rate for young Cubone on Quest Island is extremely high.
** Lanius' forces strung up children on crosses as well.
* InnocuouslyImportantEpisode: The events of Twist Mountain are mostly just a series of [[MindScrew mind screws]], but it does set up a few plot points. Including one that ends up being the key to taking down 'M's anti-legendary shield.
* InteractiveNarrator: Several of the [=RPers=] seem to have these. This becomes more evident in the more [[BreakingTheFourthWall meta]] arcs.
* InterdimensionalTravelDevice: The Griseous Orb has this power, either by itself, or in tandem with the Cubone's Time Tunnels and/or the other Orbs for more fine tuned travel.
* IntangibleTheft: During the OI arc Swindle the Emolga manages to steal the psychological manifestation of Tagg's cynicism from his own mindscape, [[NiceJobBreakingItHero allowing Nihilist!Tagg to go on a rampage until said aspect is returned.]]
* IntergenerationalFriendship:
** Meddler (13) and Wolf (21).
** Fortis (11) and Skyla (Likely somewhere in her 20s)
** Dune (21) and Ren (30). Des (22) as well. Really any of Ren's closer friends.
* InternalReveal: Umbra being the Ghost Lord is this for other characters, but especially Ammy.
* InSeriesNickname: The group of trainers eventually ends up being called "The J-Team" by fans that they've amassed due to Jane seeming like the leader to outsiders, even if it lacks a true leader.
* InsistentTerminology:
** The word '''house''' is always pot holed to make it look blue while in the Glitch Building. [[MindScrew Nobody knows why.]]
** Sol, much to her chagrin, sometimes has to [[http://tangent128.name/depot/veniasilente/puntest/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=3737#p3737 remind people]] she's a ''psychic cat'' Pokémon.
** Finn the Garchomp insists that people call him a mole when they call him a dragon.
* InterspeciesAdoption: Three times with Gogie, first when he found Akim'bleer's egg, second when Chirin wanted to be trained by him, and third, when Morrigan wanted him to be Dawg's sort-of-father.
* InterspeciesRomance:
** Luke and Reshiram. It doesn't work at first, but they change their minds quickly and end up together anyway. Which is later countered with Jane and Zekrom. Until they break up once the two Tao Dragons recognize their feelings for one another.
** Algira, Silent's Masquerain, having a crush on Tagg, much to his chagrin. She falls for Helios, Tagg's Volcarona, when she gets over him, though they do share Egg Groups.
** Implied for Clover and Glaze (Kim's Lopunny and Minun).
** Sierra and Vyvyan, after Vyvyan's transformation into a Rayquaza. At least he does get to keep one of the Pokémon-to-human armbands so he can turn back and forth between his Rayquaza and human forms as he wishes.
** Umbra with Ammy, a Volcarona who uses an armband to remain in human form most of the time.
** Lyuri and Duke, a Lucario, in a similar fashion to Umbra and Ammy above.
** Kisune and Ren. With Kitsune, a larger than average Ninetales, being in love with Ren. Ren reciprocates her feelings when she wears the Borked Armband for a couple of days.
** Seth, a Scizor, and Regina, a Gardevoir, who are also [[FriendlyRival Friendly Rivals.]]
* ItMakesSenseInContext: Some of the more Laconical explanations of the arcs can get... weird.
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: Just ask Maekrite. GotVolunteered to attach to a Trainer despite his mother raising him for having a full, wild life? Check. Having to leave behind his mate before they had the chance to share a breeding season? Check. Can return home for a visit once every six months if he's lucky? Check. Can barely see her during those visits? Check. Having to take up the same mantle in an ''alternate'' timeline despite extensive ScreeningOfTheCall? ''Check''. Sanctioned by ''Ho-Oh'' to do the same things OnlyMoreSo - and essentially ''for life''? '''''Check'''''.
* IWillFindYou: Wolf and DS make this promise to each other just before Dialga alters the timeline.
* {{Jerkass}}: Some of the Pokémon are total jerks. Examples of which include:
** Courtney, Tracer's Unfezant, who tends to be a mostly unpleasant individual.
** Fade, Every's former Drifblim, who gets pleasure out of mean-spirited pranks in order to feed.
** Gyru, Every's former Bronzong, who happens to be an inorganic supremacist on top of that.
** Zack, Lyuri's Floatzel, constantly bullying Riku, even talking about the cave-in he accidentally did out loud when he was asked about it, and just being a Jerkass in general, he does get some payback from his antics sometimes though, he has shown to have a HiddenHeartOfGold or close to it when he helped Riku out of his short BSOD after a car crash, but is still a prick most of the time.
** Luana's Marowak, who once called Limna (A Blaziken/Feraligatr chimera) a freak among other actions.
** Eon, one of the Seven Jerk Dragons, definitely earns the title by being a arrogant, racist tool.
* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: The basis of the entire mindscape miniarc, which involved a good portion of the group exploring eachother's mental worlds after Crewe is revealed to be a Sneasel transfigured into a human by a Mew.
* JunglePrincess: Fool was raised in Pinwheel Forest by Simipour.
* JustAKid: Often levied at our heroes from both friend and foe, even though a number of them happen to be adults.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes K-O]]
* KeepingSecretsSucks:
** At the end of the Unova arc, Anom is entrusted with a Manaphy egg by Cynthia, and has to make sure it safely makes it back to Oblivia. Anom is strictly told not to tell anyone. However, this trope doesn't come into play until the Oblivia arc when Anom ends up being Heart Swapped with Wolf, and the Pokémon Pinchers capture and escape with the Manaphy, leaving Anom and Wolf stuck in each other's bodies.
** They initially try to keep it a secret and pretend to be each other, but things get complicated fast. Eventually, the tension within the group gets so bad, the secret gets shattered.
* KillEmAll:
** Dialga getting mad and destroying an entire Team Rocket base to a man.
** Helios vs Lanius' Praetorian Guard. He immolates them all with Heat Shield.
** Tagg wiping out an entire convoy of Cipher Peons as a message.
* LampshadeHanging: Happens once in a while. DS in particular seems to be fond of doing this.
* LanguageDrift: In PMD-B, quite a few names end up suffering from language drift, such as Goldenrod becoming "Golrod".
* LanguageOfMagic:
** The Unown warp reality by spelling out words with their bodies.
** The [[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim Thu'um]] works through saying Words of Power in order to warp reality.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Both Jane and Luke are afflicted by this in the PMD arc. Luckily, Gamer and Tagg are GenreSavvy enough to know how to fix it.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: There might as well not even be one with the amount of examples exhibited within the RP.
* LeftHanging: The PMD-R arc abruptly ended by leaking into Kanjoh-2 due to most of the playerbase losing motivation, though there have been attempts to properly fill the gaps.
* LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn: Tagg's iPhokex is alive and plays various tracks, expanding from just the Pokémon games to encompass just about everything. It has even become a plot point at times.
* LethalHarmlessPowers: Tagg's Xatu can dispatch opponents by simply teleporting them high up and not bringing them back, [[GravityIsAHarshMistress letting gravity do the rest.]]
* LeyLine: The Aura Nexuses mentioned below in PlaceOfPower are connected by this system.
* LibationForTheDead: On Father's Day during the Hoenn-2 arc, Jason visits his father's grave in Fall City, Fiore and pours a sour bourbon mix on and around the tombstone after taking a swig himself.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Anom and Jane have this relationship.
* LivingLieDetector: Aurics and other types of empath are capable of telling when someone's lying to them by sensing their emotions.
* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: The RP has about 30 primary [=PCs=], not counting secondary [=PCs=], their mons, or the [=NPCs=].
* LongLived:
** Dragon types are often capable of making at least a century.
** Volcarona can live for at least a millennium.
* LoveTriangle:
** Between Umbra, Ammy, and Lina. Umbra ultimately ends up with Ammy.
** Between Crewe, Straw, and Jab. Crewe chooses Straw.
** Between Carol, Sam and Herbert as well. Sam bowed out and hooked up with Tesse.
* LukeIAmYourFather: And Virizion sees Keldeo as her son. [[HappilyAdopted This is understandable.]]
* LukeYouAreMyFather: Cresselia is Darkrai's daughter... or at least she claimed to be. Seeing as a book in a library in the Dream World refers to Darkrai as Cresselia's ''brother'', this may not be true.
* MagicalComputer: It could be argued that Super Nerd's Hoodie Computer is this, as it seems to be able to do anything within the laws of cyberspace.
* {{Magitek}}: While not outright stated, the armbands are implied to be from an unknown ancient civilization.
* MayflyDecemberFriendship: Tagg (Normal human lifespan) and Umbra (immortal), and pretty much all of Umbra's human friends for that matter save for Lina who's also immortal.
* MeaningfulEcho: When Chase as a Pidove rescues Artemis from a Scolipede, he comments: "She may be a jerk, but she's still my team mate!" Later on, after both have evolved and Chase TookALevelInJerkass, Artemis ends up saving him from a Beartic. Afterwards she comments "You may have been a jerk, but you're still my team mate."
* MegaCorp:
** The PEFE (the Fanon Pokédex organization) appears to be like this, Type 2 ("smaller, centralized [...] in something... dangerous"). Whether they are benign or not is to debate, considering its superiors hijack ''fangirls'' in a container to use them in experiments with Shinx. Then again those being ''fangirls'', make of that what you will. This was due to the fact that they ended up taking over the assets of an actual Mega Corp, Pokefutures, Inc.
** The Angela region is apparently run by these.
* MeleeATrois:
** The climax of the AU ends up being the Resistance vs Scolemis vs Napoleon's forces.
** In Almer it ends up being Teams Taxonomy and Earthbound vs Emperor!Archeops forces vs his assassins. (The issue being complicated because the Emperor had swapped minds with Tracer.)
** Conquest deals with Illusio and allies vs Nixtorm vs Spectra.
** In the early Recovery Saga it's the Illusion Project vs Team Neo-Galactic vs the J-Team, while afterwards it's Neo-Illusion vs Neo-Flare vs the J-Team.
* MentalWorld: The various mindscapes that the trainers visit inside the mindscape miniarc.
* MilitariesAreUseless:
** In the AU the Pokepanese military in Kanto more or less held in Vermilion and let Lanius' forces run roughshod over Celadon and Saffron after they attacked, though this changed once Lt. Surge came back and rallied them into fighting back.
** They also proved mostly useless in the initial portion of the [=RtAU=] arc, though this was because the dragons were using LostTechnology they were ill prepared for, and monification created mass chaos. After that, however, quite a few ended up making the backbone of guerrilla movements.
* MindRape: In WAAPT it's mainly of the psychic assault variety, with the result of an unrestrained assault being brain death.
* MindScrew:
** [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=123#3058 The first Glitch Area in Canalave]]. To elaborate: Jane's and Gamer's pokemon are genderbent, Mewtwo is in a woman's one-piece bathing suit and reading the instruction manual to [[VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl Pokemon Platinum]], Gamer has turned into a Snivy, Jane and Palkia have [[FreakyFridayFlip switched bodies]], and the Regis are all wearing hats for those who are curious, start here.]]
** [[GainaxEnding The ending]] to Goggles' backstory. Did any of it actually happen, or was it just Goggles' daydream? What was up with the Maractus? And who was doing the voiceover at the end?
** Twist Mountain in the first Unova Arc was another Glitch Area with similar results.
** Pentigan's battle with J.
** [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=15122#378038 Lanie's battle against Drasna]] where the latter sends out Noivern... only for Noivern to proclaim [[Memes/MegaMan it's Air Man and they can't beat him]], [[BreakingTheFourthWall with the "I Can't Defeat Air Man" playing in-universe]]. Cue Hue and Lanie's [[FlatWhat confusion]].
** April Fools in general, due to several odd things happening on the day, then reverting back to normal the next.
* ModeLock:
** If an armbanded human is caught while in Pokémon form, the Vow takes precedence and the human is forced to stay as a mon unless they're released. (The armband can be taken off, but they won't shift back to their original form.) However, putting on a Pokémon to human armband can work around that restriction.
** The mon bombs used by the Seven Jerk Dragons work under similar principles, including the Pokémon to human armband loophole.
* MonsterOfTheWeek:
** Fool getting [[DemonicPossession possessed by evil]] somehow.
** The giant tortilla monster that everyone in Dewford ended up fighting.
* MoodWhiplash:
** Tagg's adventures during the OI arc had elements of this as he was doing a VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine themed adventure while dealing with the aftermath of his actions during the AU arc.
** Umbra's humorous dream where he's a pimp and Ammy and Lina are two of his [[DoubleEntendre "workers"]] turns into a nightmare where Duolis shows up and reams him for first pimping them out, and then for his past as the Ghost Lord of Spectra.
* MultinationalTeam:
** There is at least one person from every main series region to date inside the group as of Gen VI, save for Anom, Daisy, and Kim, who were born in Oblivia, Orre, and Almia respectively. Other exceptions include Umbra who was born on Shadedrake Island off Hoenn, and Lina who was born in Dragnor, Ransei.
** Silent's research wing at Goldenrod, at least, appears to [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=2784#69594 employ interns of varied lands]].
* TheMultiverse: Besides the world our heroes inhabit, the universe of VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeon, and the [[DarkerAndEdgier alternate universe]] created by Cyrus, there exists:
** The Other!Universe, a LighterAndSofter version of WAAPT.
** PMD-B, a branch of the AU 600 years in the future where the dragons rebelled and most of humanity ended up being transformed into Pokemon.
** The [[RealLife real world]] is mentioned by Palkia at one point.
** Various universes based on different videogames, either with or without the presence of Pokemon.
** One universe where the weather is like that of [[ASongOfIceAndFire Westeros.]]
** A universe where increased oxygen levels created {{Kaiju}}-sized seafaring Pokemon.
** The universe where Canon!Rex hails from, which is most likely based on the canon events of the main series Pokemon games.
* {{Mundanger}}:
** Team Skyclaw goes to solve the mystery of some disappearing mons in PMD-A, only to find out that the reason is not some monster, and certainly not the seemingly obvious Gulpin and Swalot family they meet, but some rogue mons.
** Also within PMD-A, DS nearly got killed after discovering a fake rescue team that was going around eating "civilized" mons, basically making them the equivalent of cannibalistic serial killers.
* MundaneUtility:
** The Adamant Orb in this continuity grants time control powers on top of its canon abilities of powering up and summoning Dialga. What does Tagg tend to most often use it for? Getting a full night's sleep in only a few minutes by exploiting its YearInsideHourOutside time dilation effect as well as getting rid of jet lag by resetting his circadian rhythm.
** The usage of the {{Hammerspace}} backpacks as tents and sleeping bags due to their infinite volume.
** Pianis uses Sparkplug the Frost Rotom as a refrigerator.
** During a party for the proto J-Team in Unova, Heatran's back is used as a grill.
* MySkullRunnethOver: Everyone's reaction to having memories from both timelines in the AU arc.
* MythologyGag:
** Pentigan's original Trainer Title, MYSTERYMAN, was the title of Eusine in Crystal.
** When deciding a name for their Exploration Team, Crochet [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=6148#153696 mentions]] both Team Go-Getters and Team Poképals from the PMD anime specials.
* NatureIsNotNice:
** [[DiscussedTrope Discussed]] by Tagg and Fool when they share their mutual experiences as a field researcher and someone who was RaisedByAnimals and is often invoked in both of their thoughts about the subject.
** When Helios rescues Algira in the alternate timeline, by knocking the Swellow hunting her and her friends into a lake, they chatter happily while the Swellow is suggested to be being eaten in the background. Helios invokes the trope by name.
** Kirk learns this firsthand when he ends up in Kalos and gets his meal stolen by a Hydreigon, who mocks him about being a weak "pet" unfit for wild life.
* NeglectfulPrecursors: Multiple:
** Hundreds of millenia before the rise of humanity, the dominant species were the Metagross and Alakazam, who created rival civilizations. Following their activation of the Mt. Pyre supervolcano, which the weather trio sacrificed their lives to prevent from fully erupting, the legendaries wiped both civilizations from the face of the earth for their arrogance. Many artifacts and ruins still remain, and Chrome and Grodus, Lina and Nico's Metagross, happen to be survivors of the original Metagross civilization.
** The Celestials and the Moon Tribe, twin Latii civilizations based on those of the same names from {{Okami}}. The former were wiped out under currently unknown circumstances, the latter by Yami and Orochi in an attempt to obtain the Lunar Pendant. At least the Moon Tribe has some of its technology lying around.
** The Shadowlanders, who existed concurrently with the Metagross as small-name rivals until an attack on the latter where Slateport now stands led to the defeat of their leader and subsequent dissolution, though a few remnants still stuck around.
* NewEden: During the course of Team Earthbound, Nova, and other's adventures in PMD-B, they find that many of the old cities have gotten a new coating of green. Azalea for instance was completely swallowed by Ilex Forest.
* NiceMeanAndInbetween:
** Ammy (Nice), Herbert (Mean), Tagg (Inbetween)
** Sakura (Nice), Lyuri (Mean), Hikari (Inbetween)
** Zeal is a one man example with him representing nice, Red Eyes mean, and Zach the inbetween.
* NoBloodTies: The Druddigon of Dragonspiral Tower and Leavanny of Pinwheel Forest raise their hatchlings communally in creches. As a result most of them never know who their parents are.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown:
** Tagg nearly does this to two Cipher Peons in Almia before the police pull him off them.
** Fool ends up beating a poacher to death this way during the OI arc.
** Psyche in her backstory ended up getting mauled by Scrafty so badly that she was rendered mute, deaf in one ear, and was forced to wear a leg brace.
** Diane ends up beating Vedfolnir (A cyborg Staraptor) to a virtual pulp with a Close Combat.
** In their final confrontation in the Orre arc, Odin beats Chrome so hard with his PoweredArmor that the latter's armor plating actually cracks.
* NotAllowedToGrowUp: Averted, the human and Pokémon characters alike have aged throughout the course of the RP due to it being done in semi-real time, with birthdays being acknowledged.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** DS unknowingly made a few comments that inspired the ImpossibleThief Emolga to steal Tagg's cynical side. As a result, Nihilist!Tagg was unleashed, and some of the trainers had to fight for their lives while DS went off to find the Emolga and get Tagg's cynical side back so he could be returned to normal.
** Tagg ends up starting the Keystone arc by taking Annoski's Keystone to the spot it needs to be for him to revive.
** During PMD-B Tagg's group allowing the last two Super Mutants to get away doomed Necropolis by having the Master send his army to destroy the place in reprisal.
* NightmareSequence:
** Fool goes through a rather freaky one during the AU Arc in which she sees herself (The one she identifies as "[[EnemyWithin Sol]]") ''using the corpses of Pokemon that she murdered as marionette puppets''. A ShoutOut to a very similar scene in WesternAnimation/{{Felidae}}.
** Happens to Sakura not too long after her debut, she mentions that it happens frequently, but they stopped once she found Lyuri.
** Straw goes through these at least somewhat often, such as being stabbed by Jab and dreaming Crewe died and he was only finding this out when he was married to Elise.
** Tagg has one following the Orre arc after drinking himself unconscious at Kat's wedding.
** Sarah has had frequent nightmares since her trauma in Holon, but a particularly interesting variation occurred when she experienced Sakura and Blitz's trip into her Mindscape through the eyes of the aspect that was actively trying to kill them.
* NoDeadBodyPoops: Averted in the case of a hunted Rapidash, and is actually discussed at an earlier point.
* NoodleIncident: Several of these have been brought up, and some of the things that are mentioned to happen off-screen also qualify for this trope.
* NotQuiteBackToNormal:
** After returning to their human forms after defeating Missingno, the trainers discovered they still had the ability to understand Pokémon speech.
** Some of them do it intentionally by using the armbands just because of said ability.
** Lyuri still has the ability to use Aura after being turned into a Lucario hybrid, despite being turned back to normal, and before her, Kim and Lily after being turned into a Riolu and Mienfoo respectively.
* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: The AU arc caused some radical changes in the RP both in-universe and in the meta, to the point that it's referred to as the Upheaval Saga.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: You'd think that two Go-Rock Squad Admins would be easy for our heroes to defeat. ''You thought wrong.'' The two of them gave our heroes quite a run for their money before Casval and Pentigan's actions helped turn the tide by temporarily fixing Gordor's pipe organ Power Styler and breaking their control over their hordes of Tyranitar and Metagross, as well as their secondary instruments getting stolen by Librarian's Hitmonchan.
* OffScreenTeleportation:
** The group fly off to Sandgem town to ask Professor Rowan some questions, but after the others have already left, Daisy remembers that she doesn't have a flying Pokemon with her. When the others arrive at the lab, Daisy suddenly shows up with no explaination of how she got there. No one seems to notice.
** Frequently happens when a character is inactive thanks to the player being busy or something along these lines.
* OhCrapThereAreFanficsOfUs: It happened first around the GC Arc when the J-Team found out about the fanbase they'd amassed due to slaying Missingno and 'M, and it still happens occasionally when newer members learn about the fanbase.
* OhMyGods: "Oh [[OlympusMons Arceus]]" is a common exclamation.
* OneNationUnderCopyright: The Angela region is more or less ruled by corporations.
* OneWingedAngel: Pretty much every evil aspect faced by the J-Team during the mindscape miniarc has one or more of these.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: About 80% of the cast goes by a nickname of some sort, either due to personal preference or to protect their identities.
* OurMagesAreDifferent: Aurics in the RP have aspects of:
** Artists: Being a skilled Auric is often determined by the creativity of the user.
** Athletes: Their powers improve through training.
** Mutants: Kim and Lily got their powers via being transformed by human to Pokémon armbands
** Race: Their powers are mostly based on genetics.
* OutDamnedSpot:
** Fool has a moment like this after she regains her memories and is mentally confronted with the murders of people and Pokemon that she was directly responsible for.
** Helios has his own, except with soot after [[KillItWithFire incinerating Lanius' Praetorian Guard with the technique that he and Tagg accidently invented during the GC.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes P-Z]]
* PaintingTheMedium:
** Whenever there's a FreakyFridayFlip, players tend to switch their avatars to that of the normal player of that character.
** The use of music IRP to affect the mood of posts.
** The Terrifying Presence Auric power is signified by the use of eviltext IRP.
** Heart of Gold super empathy is signified by the use of gold text.
** Thoughts, whether telepathic or otherwise, are often signified by the use of italics.
** Brackets are used to signify Monese, except in the PMD universes where everyone speaks it, save for PMD-B when the brackets come back for interaction with humans.
** Glitchmons tend to use an intentionally glitchy font when speaking.
* PalsWithJesus: The group is, as a whole, good friends with [[PhysicalGod Palkia]] and other legendary Pokémon due to inadvertent events in the past.
* PaperThinDisguise: Lenore (Fool's Hydreigon) and Ammy use these to get their own Trainer's Licenses - they wore fake moustaches and trenchcoats. Lenore's case is more notable, because while Ammy was wearing a Pokemon-to-Human armband, Lenore wore the disguise ''as a Hydreigon''.
* PenName: "[=MidnightSun197=]", a writer of romantic in-universe fanfic, is actually Sunny, Mezzo's Umbreon.
* PensieveFlashback: Psychics can use their powers to allow people and Pokémon within a certain radius to see the memories of themselves and others as observers. Aura can be kneaded into the projection to get around the difficulties most Dark types have with this.
* PeoplePuppets:
** During the first Unova arc some Cofagrigus use their Mummy ability to control some of the trainer's mons.
** Zrone declaring [[spoiler:that Tagg is his Traitor]] and having a horde of Psychic type mons take control of his body.
* PlaceOfPower: The Aura Nexuses around the world, which give increased powers to those in the Auric Quartet (Aura, Psychic Powers, Ghost Obscura, Dark Obscura).
* PlatonicLifePartners: Anom and Jane are very close, but have no romantic attraction towards each other.
* PityTheKidnapper:
** What happens when [[CloudCuckoolander Meme]] is imprisoned in the AU arc.
** Also what happens to the poor, poor, [[TakeThat MAFIAA]]-serving mons tasked with taking Dintel to more or less the in-universe version of Hell. It ends up with them ''kicking him out of there''.
* PointOfDivergence: For the major universes we have the following:
** AU: Umbra getting sealed in an orb when he was the Ghost Lord, Hoenn getting flooded, Sinnoh suffering the Distortion, and Anom's Scolipede and Artemis taking over Unova.
** PMD-B: The dragons succeeding in turning 99% of humanity into Pokémon.
** Otherverse: The earliest known important divergence is Grings Kodai using Azalea instead of Crown City for his Celebi plot.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Caitlin's Sigilyph notices Alder's eyes glowing briefly while he speaks to Caitlin, who is starting to lose control of her psychic powers because of 'M. Realizing that Alder may be controlled by 'M, Sigilyph tries to warn Caitlin's other Pokémon. Unfortunately, said Sigilyph happens to be TheUnintelligible.
* PortalNetwork: The Entralink in this verse is capable of facilitating multidimensional travel with its counterparts in other universes, though it can be unreliable in this regard.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: DS invokes this in order to use the Lustrous Orb to revive the petrified Palkia during the AU arc.
* ThePowerOfLove: It's heavily implied that Wolf's feelings for DS are what allowed him to come back to life.
* PronounTrouble: Virizion. Usually people just go with whatever gendered pronoun gets used first, but so far Virizion is the only one who everyone has pronoun trouble with, eventually sparking a debate between Anom and Jane.
* PreventTheWar:
** The main point of the Abbyfall quest in PMD-B was to prevent the Bay region of Hoenn from exploding into war once again.
** Tagg's group in PMD-B hands over the letter stating the Hoennese royal family's claim to the Pokepanese throne to the Hoennese emperor in order to head off any wars of regional supremacy by powers who would view it as a threat.
* {{Psychometry}}: Aurics can use the residual Aura on objects to get memories or to find a target's Aura trail, though it doesn't work once enough time has passed.
* TheQuisling: In the [=RtAU=] arc, Vallok gets some draconic humons to betray their species in return for better treatment, including Benjamin's old classmate Reggie, who now goes by [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Julkriid.]]
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: The J-Team would count as this, having [[CaptainObvious a bunch Of Pokemon Trainers,]] an ex-spy, [[JustForFun/ThePokedexExtendedFanonEdition some researchers]], an ex-NPC, a MarySue[=/=]GaryStu pair, [[RaisedByWolves a girl raised by Pokemon]], an ex-Ranger, a former member of Team Plasma, and a delivery girl, two immortals, a telepath, as well as some other oddities.
* ResurrectiveImmortality: The weather trio will respawn on the off-chance they're killed, though it make take anywhere from merely months to centuries for them to come back.
* RaisedByWolves: Fool was raised by Simipour in Pinwheel Forest.
* ReadyForLovemaking: At some point and while their adopted daughter is busy somewhere else, Harriet the female Honchkrow tidies the nest and leaves just the ''right'' amount of space besides her for Copahue the male Fearow to fit in.
* RealTime: For the most part, a day IRL equals a day IRP, which means that characters age as the RP goes on. For example, Tagg aging from 19 to 22 from 2011 to 2013.
* RealityEnsues: Despite the more outlandish aspects of the RP, realism can indeed rear its head:
** The PEFE Founders took down the corrupt corporation Pokéfutures Inc., who also happened to be the lynchpin of Angela's economy. This resulted in the Angelan economy going into freefall, and had the Founders not took the deal to take all their assets they would've all ended up in prison.
** Raise loads of sapient beings for use in competition and basically reject most for one or two perfect mons like in the games? Be prepared for a lot of issues regarding self-worth amongst the rejected, if they don't outright hate your guts.
** Verax may have done a HeelFaceTurn, but that doesn't mean the J-Team members who he's tried to kill before are going to like having him around, and most don't.
** Daisy and Pentigan got together due to their adventures fighting Glitch Pokémon, but once that was over, they found that apart from a shared horrific experience they didn't really have anything else in common and broke up.
** The J-Team causing property damage to the places they stayed at caused many hotels to ban them from staying there.
** Psychological issues take time to fix and may never fully go away.
** During the Hoenn arc Tagg decides to have his mons destroy a perfectly legal Neo-Magma machine to stop them from destroying a beach and is forced to retreat by them calling the cops as that's vandalism.
* RedSkyTakeWarning: When Dialga begins changing the timeline.
* ReferenceOverdosed: In spades.
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated:
** Even though DS was seemingly killed in a flashback during the AU arc, it turns out she was merely imprisoned in the dimension where most of the legendary Pokémon had been imprisoned.
** Also somewhat played with when DS and the Lake Trio discover that Palkia was basically [[TakenForGranite petrified]] all along.
** Straw is believed to have died when a ship sinks in the Whirl Islands, but it turns out that he was very much alive.
* ResearchInc: The type of MegaCorp the PEFE happens to be, focused mainly on the betterment of Pokémon and humans alike.
* {{Retcon}}: There have been several of these, not always done on purpose.
* RetGone: Ribbons the Gothitelle, and several other Pokémon that were born because of the trainers vanish when the timeline was altered. However, Helios and Limna managed to avoid this fate thanks to the power of the Adamant Orb making them time paradoxes.
* RhymesOnADime:
** Fool's Espeon, Zecora
** All of the Sages in the Sprout Tower.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge:
** Performed on [[ThePokemonStory David]] by Gamer, Tagg, and Jane. In their defense, he had it coming.
** Tagg ends up doing a one man version during the Orre arc.
* RoomFullOfCrazy: The castle where King Jellicent and his family live.
* RulesLawyer: The dragons decide to turn humans into Pokémon because if they tried to simply outright slaughter them the legendaries would eliminate them like they did the Alakagross due to the rules of the Vow dictating conduct between humans and Pokémon.
* RunningGag:
** [[Film/TheStarWarsHolidaySpecial STIR WHIP STIR WHIP WHIP WHIP STIR YAAAAH!]]
** Anom doing something to a Gym Leader. Typically something so annoying that even the nice ones snap.
** "Oh Hai, (insert name here)!"
** Wolf isn't quite used to [[strike:his]] her new body yet, and frequently falls over.
** [[ThatPoorCat Off-screen cat noises.]]
** Tagg's Zweilous and later Hydreigon wanting to eat someone or something.
** People forgetting about Slouch.
** MGMT (Fool's Eelektross) being referred to as an overpowered jukebox.
** AU!Chase telling the Resistance something involving hard work, and a random crowd of Resistance members responding with [[FlatJoy "Yay"]].
** Any delays in Pentigan responding to posts when there isn't anyone else around is caused by rogue agents of Scolipede. Even when not in the AU arc.
** Forte being described as whiny.
** Maggie getting her pants burned off in some fashion.
** Doopliss trolling Straw and/or Crewe.
** Straw dying and coming back to life.
** Ever having to do some sort of odd job.
** Vierr's weird dreams at the start of Ranger-2.
** Once Crewe gains the ability to teleport, "-there is now a Sneasel here-" becomes one.
** The WAAPT chatroom has some of these as well:
*** When in doubt, blame Cyrus
*** DAMN IT, NAPOLEON
*** DAMMIT, X
*** Eskay getting disconnected, then saying "Dammit iPod" upon return
*** Oran Berries fix everything.
*** [Someone] x [Someone else] OTP!
*** Anom turning into another person.
*** Silent['s mon] kicks a random pebble.
*** Every setting an anonymous login on fire, only for it to turn out to be another player, especially Star.
*** Chatroom Gamer is OP!
*** When Crewe gets tired, expect bagels. Lots of bagels.
*** STRAYLOOOOOOOR (or STRAYLOR OTP), regarding the Straw x Taylor ship and its abrupt sinking.
* SandInMyEyes: Before she began opening up to the rest of the group, DS had at least two instances of this. There has probably been other instances of this trope from some of the other characters as well.
* TheSavageSouth: Quest Island of the greater Sevii Islands chain is a sparsely inhabited, [[DeathWorld unforgiving place]] filled with dangerous Pokmeon such as Tyranitar and Skarmory.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:
** Unite the Rufflet abandons Luke, thinking that he'll never evolve into a Braviary while on his team. [[HeroicBSOD Luke doesn't take this well.]]
** Jane abandons the group after having to put up with an endless barrage of R-Rated material thanks to 'M.
* SharedUniverse: JustForFun/ThePokedexExtendedFanonEdition, is semi-canon to this universe. (Meaning that PEFE articles are effective canon unless they prove inconvenient.)
* ShipTease: A lot of it.
** Wolf falls in love with DS, but she doesn't know that and only considers him as a friend at first. Later, Wolf confesses his feelings for DS and kisses her (after turning into a girl). They eventually get together after Wolf changes back.
** Rebecca the Serperior so far has two suitors; Goggles the Krookodile and Blacky the Zoroark. Though her true suitor ends up being Antoine the Scrafty.
** Apparently, Pentigan was in love with Susan the Lopunny, Jane, ''and'' Daisy.
** [[LesYay Mira the Mienshao and Artemis the Liepard.]] In-universe.
** Wulfric the Lucario and Woolly the Ampharos. Until she eventually decided that she loved Unite instead.
** Tagg's Vanilluxe and Audilith (Tagg's Gigalith).
** Reshiram and Zekrom... Or at least it would, if [[@/CalamityJane Jane]] [[ShipperOnDeck got her way.]] She eventually did.
** And, [[FunnyMoments lest we forget]], Bonnie and Nudi. In-Universe
** Herbert and Carol, along with Herbert and Sarah, Herbert and Crewe, and many more.
* ShoutOut: [[{{ShoutOut/WeAreAllPokemonTrainers}} Has its own page.]]
* ShowWithinAShow:
** [[{{JustForFun/ValiantKnightSkarmory}} Valiant Knight Skarmory!]]
** There's also a show based off of the J-Team's adventures, but since it ended up causing a bit of trouble for the J-Team by revealing or in some cases, coming close to revealing certain things about some of the J-Team members that would make them targets. For this reason, DS is currently working on the concept for a reboot of the show, having reimagined her friends and adventures to fit into a fantasy setting.
* ShutUpHannibal:
** [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=11501#287505 Lina's reaction]] to Yusei's reasons for conquering Ransei.
** Tagg does his own to Tokarev after he does an AsLongAsThereIsEvil speech, responding that people like the J-Team will always be around to stop people like him.
* SiblingTeam:
** The Morendos
** Eskay and Alli Amarin
** Lyuri and Sakura
** Psyche's brothers.
* SleepCute:
** Wolf and DS have done this on several occasions. Other characters and several of the Pokémon also do this sometimes.
** Anom seems to have a bad habit of doing this by complete accident, and then having a rather awkward awakening. So far this has happened with [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=1008#25189 Fool]] [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=1012#25278 (Waking up)]], [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=2759#68960 Star]], and [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=3708#92684 DS]].
* SliceOfLife: When a major StoryArc is not currently in progress, posts can fall under this category.
** Posts concerning Slouch rarely have any relevance to the plot whatsoever, and most often consist of Slouch and his Pokémon doing everyday things and talking amongst themselves.
* SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness: Zig Zagged. The story for the most part is rather humorous, but some of the events described are anything but.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple:At the beginning, the only girl was TheChick, [[MarySue Daisy]]. Then [[TheHeroine Jane]] [[AffirmativeActionGirl came along]]. Later on, [[PhysicalGod Palkia]] was revealed to be female, and it just snowballed from there. It's gotten to the point where there are slightly more female main characters than male ones (not counting gender-bent ones).
* SociallyAwkwardHero: Most of the main cast, to varying degrees. Sakura is notable due to being this is in the past, but when she's introduced in the RP, she's actually very sociable.
* SomebodySetUpUsTheBomb: Happens to Pent, Sam and Tesse not [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=12410#310244 once]], but [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370A74820100&page=12543#313573 twice]]! By the same villain!
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay:
** After Wolf and Anom switch bodies, Jane attempts one, asking Anom-in-Wolf's Body a question Anom would know the answer to, but is disappointed when he doesn't give her the answer she was hoping for.
** Before that, Pentigan attempted one of these by asking a question Wolf would know the answer to. When Anom nearly fails to answer the question correctly, Pentigan threatens to [[DisproportionateRetribution send out his Victini to attack him.]] He is [[WhatTheHellHero called out on it.]]
* SpannerInTheWorks: A Sandshrew so cute and childish as Dintel can't ''possibly'' be a threat to Lelouch's taking over Hoenn, right? [[LiteralMinded RIGHT???]]
* SpeaksFluentAnimal:
** The main cast at the time after the end of the PMD arc keeps the ability to understand Pokémon after being transformed back into humans.
** Wolf gains this skill after [[strike:his]] her ordeal in the glitchy Twist Mountain, and Crewe picks it up in the Dream World.
** Fool can understand Pokemon due to being [[RaisedByWolves raised by Simipour.]]
** Other characters that join later on gain the skill by wearing the [[TransformationTrinket human-to-Pokémon armband]] for a little while or taking a trip to one of the two PMD universes.
* SpiderSwarm:
** Jane and Fool end up fighting a swarm of Ariados while searching for [[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} Troll Orbs.]]
** A swarm of Ariados nearly killed Every in his backstory, leading to a lifelong fear of the species.
* SpontaneousWeaponCreation: One ability of Aura in this continuity is to make HardLight weapon constructs, similar to how Lucario use Bone Club in the Pokémon anime. Tagg, however, is incapable of creating anything but chains without using his [[{{Spellblade}} dagger.]]
* StealthHiBye: 'Dark' Super Nerd seems to always do this, with poor old regular Super Nerd waking up with no clue of where he's been.
* StoryArc: Each story is based around arcs that are based around greater sagas, not counting the numerous individual character arcs:
** J-Team Assemble Saga: The assemblage of the J-Team and its codification as a concept, consisting of the Sinnoh, PMD-1, Unova-1, Ranger, and Gold Conference Arcs.
** Upheaval Saga: The AU Arc.
** Aftershock Saga: Dealing with the aftermath of the AU and consisting of the OI, Hoenn, and Infinity Keystone and Kanjoh-1 arcs.
** Paths Saga: The PMD-R and Kanjoh-2 arcs, taking place partially concurrently.
** Cipher Saga: The J-Team's fight against Cipher, consisting of the Unova-2, Holonquest, and Orre arcs.
** Recovery Saga: The J-Team dealing with the aftermath of Orre, consisting of the Kalos, Ranger-2, and Hoenn-2 arcs.
* SuitUpOfDestiny: Silent as he is sent by the Nidoran Colony to {{Set Right What|OnceWentWrong}} [[AlternateUniverse Is Going Wrong]].
* SummoningRitual:
** Many items related to legendaries also serve as summoning charms.
** Tagg and Pentigan have both used rituals in order to summon Lugia and Arceus.
* {{Superhero}}: The Auric Avenger, Gaia, Shingeko and the Blue Emperor, who are Lucius, Alice, Sakura and Jason, respectively.
** {{Sidekick}}: Helmaroc and Faith are this for the Auric Avenger, as is Blitz for Shingeko.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Jane ends up getting possessed by 'M at the climax of the Unova arc.
* SuperpowerfulGenetics: Auric powers are normally conferred by genetics, though they can skip generations, as was the case with [[MuggleBornOfMages Dune.]]
* SuperWeight:
** Type -1: Lone Unown, most baby mons.
** Type 0: Most humans
** Type 1: BadassNormal humans
** Type 2: Most humans on the Auric spectrum, first stage mons
** Type 3: Advanced level humans on the Auric spectrum, most fully evolved mons
** Type 4: "Lower tier" legendaries (Mew and expies, Latii, etc), Psuedo legendaries, Glitch Nido
** Type 5: Non-creation trio box legends (Weather trio, tao trio, etc.), Mewtwo, Deoxys, The Ghost Lord, Annoski (i.e. Auric spectrum freaks of nature), 'M
** Type 6: The creation trio, Unown hordes, Arceus, Missingno
** Type 7: Narrators.
* SweetHomeAlabama: Jane's hometown, Lavaridge Town, has some aspects of this.
* TakeOverTheWorld: Both Artemis the Liepard and Anom's Scolipede plan to do this, succeeding in the Alternate Timeline.
* TakenForGranite: Palkia, during the AU arc, until she was restored to normal with the Lustrous Orb.
* TakeThat: 49 named his annoying Chatot, Pauly Shore.
* TakeThatKiss: Crewe ends up giving one of these to [[spoiler:Herbert]] of all people.
* TakingTheBullet: When Napoleon tries to stab Artemis, Mira takes the hit instead and is fatally injured.
* TheTeam: The main group becomes this after it reaches eighteen members.
* TemptingFate: The trainers tend to do this at times.
* ThatPoorCat: Has happened a few times, with the cat in question each time being Artemis, DS' Purrloin. This continues to happen even after she evolves into Liepard. Not always played for laughs as it sometimes occurs when Artemis is hit by an attack from another Pokémon during a battle.
* TheGoodKing: Of all of the Warlords in Ransei, Sabaku is the only one that always puts the safety and livelihood of his people ahead of any kind of desire for power or conquest. He even submits himself to civilian authority, and asks for permission from the leaders of Terrera's guilds before he officially declares war on the Nixtorm-Valora Alliance.
* TheyreCalledPersonalIssuesForAReason:
** Gogie doesn't particularly want to talk about his time with Jay, what happened with Biton around Christmas time or what happened with Skoll and Morrigan.
** Dune tries to keep the topic away from his family whenever possible.
** Tagg doesn't like talking about what happened to him in the Under, the Adamant Orb's true power, the battle of Cellafron in the AU, or what happened to AU!DS and Wolf in the PMD-B timeline.
* ThouShaltNotKill: While killing is something the J-Team tends to avoid if they can help it, overall the J-Team has no real "no kill" rule, subverting it. For example:
** No one really balked at the concept of killing the Glitches, which were sapient (albeit evil) beings in the earliest arcs.
** Tagg and his mons are fully willing to kill their opponents if deemed necessary since they tend to fight the most scummy humans and mons out to kill them, as best exemplified during the AU and PMD-R arcs.
** Mezzo and company in their Dream World adventures have killed their main villains such as Magolor and Queen Sectonia.
* ThreeAmigos: Gamer, Tagg, and Jane, during the earlier arcs.
* TimeAbyss:
** Many of the legendaries are immeasurably old, but this isn't touched on very often.
** Chrome the Metagross would count, being at the very least 100,000 years old and being able to reminisce about seeing cavemen making fire.
* TitleDrop: Very, very often.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl:
** Jane and Daisy, respectively.
** Pentigan and Wolf after they're gender-bent.
** Also Lyuri and Sakura, respectively
* TogetherInDeath: Tagg ends up burying AU!Wolf next to AU!DS after the former dies in the PMD-B timeline.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** Lake and Nadia becoming EX Pokémon.
** Teala the Druddigon takes one after taking Oslwa training.
** Stratus defeating a holographic Mewtwo about as powerful as the real one.
** Sakura progressively gets better as the RP goes on, as do some of her mons like Dylan and Seth. Sakura takes a particularly big level in Orre once she steals Verax's gun just before he was able to shoot her dead and held him at gunpoint until his Hydreigon bailed him out. This is only minimally dampened when it's later revealed he still could have easily killed her. [[spoiler:It culminates in her becoming a successful ninja superhero.]]
* TorchesAndPitchforks: Happens a couple of times, though fortunately not to the main characters - ''[[DestructiveSavior yet]]''. Examples include the execs of a gaming company when [[RealLifeWritesThePlot they cancel a release of]] [[Videogame/MegaManLegends Giga Golurk Legends]].
* TournamentArc: The Gold Conference arc, in which the trainers introduced up to Unova-1 battled one another and others in order to win a prize.
* TranslationConvention: It's implied in some instances that the player characters aren't always speaking English, not to mention the use of brackets to represent the use of Monese.
* TransformationTrinket: Two armbands that allow Pokémon to turn into humans and one that allows humans to turn into Pokémon.
* TrueCompanions: The main group.
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: Toxicroak, Fade, and Gyru build a machine with the intent of gaining control of the Fourth Wall itself. During this, even the chatrooms are affected.
* TwinThreesomeFantasy: Mezzo has one between herself, Every, and PEFE!Every, his doppelganger.
* TwoGirlsAndAGuy:
** Duke, Lyuri and Sakura in Unova-2, thanks to the former being human at the time and the third member of the girl trio, Hikari, being away for most of the arc.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl:
** Tagg, Gamer, and Jane in the earliest arcs.
** Sam, Herbert and Carol, whenever the three of them are together.
** Amanita, Pianis, and Onion make another such trio.
** Tagg, Herbert, and Ammy form one in Ransei.
* UnderTheMistletoe:
** During the group's stay in Crewe's home for the holidays, Myra gets a piece of mistletoe, and hangs it over Alyssa and Jeff. Eventually, other people end up under it, such as Sakura and Rawst. When Crewe and Straw ended up under it, Crewe ended up kissing Doopliss, in human form.
** Similar shenanigans happened when several members attended a Christmas at Ren's family's manor in Johto.
* UndergroundCity: [[VideoGame/PokemonColosseum The Under,]] which is even more expansive than in-game.
* UnusualEuphemism: Several characters use "muk" as a curse word.
* UrbanWarfare: Showcased in the battles of Celadon and Goldenrod during the AU arc.
* VillainousLegacy: The Seven Jerk Dragons transformation of most of the human population of the PMD-B timeline is directly responsible for the state of that universe when the J-Team visits it. Specifically, Bahahkun's descendant Maleficent had designs on starting a whole new dragon war, which were cut short when she died.
* VillainousValor: Despite being knowingly outnumbered and outmatched Melinda's mons, and her Chandelure in particular, chose to fight against the J-Team anyway after her car got forced off the road after being chased for capturing DS and Mirage.
* VirtualSoundtrack: Players often use music to set the mood of the scene they're doing for better atmosphere.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Crewe and Vierr constantly make sharp jabs at each other (the former quite literally), yet they still seem to consider each other friends.
* VoicesAreMental: Played straight when Jane and Palkia, and DS and Artemis switch bodies. Averted when Wolf and Anom switch bodies.
* WeAreEverywhere: Tagg actually says this almost verbatim to refer to the PEFE's very long reach throughout the regions.
* WeaponOfChoice:
** Due to how their adventures can sometimes go, many of the trainers can fight with things besides Pokémon that they're well known for using:
*** When not using her Pokemon. Fool has a [[FryingPanOfDoom Frying Pan]]. And as of the GC arc, an [[ShockAndAwe Electro]][[WhipItGood whip]].
*** Tagg has his trusty [[KnifeNut dagger]], as well as a sharpened [[ShovelStrike e-tool.]]
*** AU!Gamer has his tranq rifle. For once, InstantSedation is [[JustifiedTrope justified]], due to the darts being filled with Sleep Powder.
*** Ren has his canes so he can engage in CaneFu.
*** Mezzo has an [[ParasolOfPain umbrella.]]
*** Crewe has a slingshot. It keeps ending up broken or stolen, and keeps being replaced.
*** Kyrie has a [[BatterUp baseball bat]], to reference Bad Girl from ''VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes''. It even gets set on fire in battle (though accidentally).
* WarArc:
** The AU arc has the backdrop of the Scolemis dictatorship and the Resistance fighting one another, only for it to take a direct role when they have their generals invade Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn directly and have the J-Team fight them there during the latter portion of the arc. Later on following Napoleon's rebellion, it turns into a MeleeATrois between him, the Resistance, and the Scolemis loyalists.
** The Conquest Arc takes place in the middle of a war between Spectra and its allies/conquered states, Nixtorm and its allies and, Illusio and its allies.
** Return to AU has as its setting a massive world war with various disparate resistance movements fighting against the forces of the Seven Jerk Dragons hellbent on taking over the world and placing themselves above humanity and other mons.
* WarIsHell: The Pokepan invasion, particularly the invasion of Kanto, exhibits this trope ''very'' well.
* WeirdnessMagnet: The group admits to being one of these.
** 'I defeated Missingno [X Amount of] times and all I got was this lousy T-shirt'
* WelcomedToTheMasquerade: Every prospective member or ally of the J-Team ends up being welcomed into the odd world of WAAPT at some point.
* WhamEpisode:
** During the Orre arc:
*** Alexia turning out to be a blackmailed Lyuri.
*** Alexiel turning out to be Allen in disguise.
* WhamLine:
** Jane is dead
** Luke... Chose Cyndaquil.
** But a solemn morning when her parents read: "Solana Malkewitz, officially dead"
** I can't help him like this, and I'm not letting my son die the same way I did!
** Thanks for saving my boyfriend.
** [[spoiler:You ''are'' the Lunar Pendant.]]
** Sakura...I'm dead."
** [[spoiler:Mel is... dead.]]
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: There were a few of these, including the random disappearances and reappearances by Mewtwo, the fate of Pink the Audino's parents and what happened to the Azure Flute, but these have since been answered in later story arcs.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Gamer got this quite often in earlier arcs.
** Des gets chewed out by Sakura after he attacks Lake.
** Tagg gets chewed out by nearly the entire J-Team team after he slaughters a whole bunch of Cipher Peons out of revenge.
** Crewe gives the J-Team members that participated in the Fiore Illusion HQ raid this after they cause one of their airships to crash, injuring Straw.
* WholePlotReference: A lot of miniarcs have been based off of the plot of different videogames.
* WindowsOfTheSoul: Des can interpret what somebody's been through just by looking in someone's eyes.
* WithAFriendAndAStranger: The Auric Avenger's team was initially this with Gaia as the friend and Shingeko as the stranger.
* WombLevel: 'M's organic core takes over the Grey Ruins and makes things all fleshy.
* WorldHalfFull: Tagg points out that while the universe of PMD-B isn't perfect, it certainly isn't a total lost cause.
* WorldOfWeirdness: The world of WAAPT is in a word, strange, but most people go about their regular lives.
* YankTheDogsChain: The PMD-B timeline can be viewed as this at first, since the AU managed to rid itself of its biggest problems only to have dragons turn most of everyone into Pokémon and mostly rid the Earth of human civilization.
* YinYangBomb:
** Vierr, who has Auric and Psychic abilities as well as both Dark and Ghost Obscura, although he is not at all experienced with any of the four.
** More competently, are Nightmare and Spirit, a pair of Delta Stantler with Psychic/Dark and Fighting/Ghost typings respectively.
* YouAreNotAlone: There are a lot of these moments.
* YouCantFightFate: The cave painting in Oblivia foretells Dialga's betrayal of the Legendaries that begins the AU arc, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain:
** It's implied during Portales' backstory that the homeworld of the Elgyem species somehow got destroyed or otherwise rendered uninhabitable, meaning that the Elgyem and Beheeyem that managed to make it to Earth may be the LastOfTheirKind.
** Fool, Michelle, and Roderich were permanently banished after the former two ended up killing the Simipour they were supposed to be forcibly mated with due to troop hierarchy.
** This also happened to former Scolemis soldiers who defected from Dragonspiral Tower in the AU, including Mira.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair:
** Anom, Luke, Fool, and Mezzo all have blue hair. Wolf and Gamer have green. Sakura and Maggie have pink. Anom mentions having brown hair in the story, though. This is either artistic liscense or simply a {{Retcon}}.
** Played with in Gamer's example, as he actually dyes his hair that color. As does Sakura.
* YourCheatingHeart: Ammy ends up cheating on Umbra with Vlad, due to confusion regarding her feelings, resulting in an egg. They do end up back together though.
* YourPrincessIsInAnotherCastle: The group rescues Gamer, but just as they are leaving Ein shows up to stop them.

* OneHundredAndEight: The amount of Tears in the IK arc purposely added up to 108 to match Spiritomb, a Pokémon fully built around the concept of 108 in Buddhist mythology.
WeAreAllPokemonTrainers/Tropes0ToE
* ABirthdayNotABreak:
WeAreAllPokemonTrainers/TropesFToO
* AbortedArc:
* AllLoveIsUnrequited:
* AnAssKickingChristmas:
** The fight against Noir and Nihilist Soul takes place on Christmas Eve.
** Darkest Night (An ''Arkham'' series based miniarc) also takes place on Christmas Eve.
* AndIMustScream:
* AnimalisticAbomination:
* {{Animorphism}}:
* AscendedExtra:
* AtopAMountainOfCorpses:
* {{Attack Of The 50 Foot|Whatever}}...:
* BadassCrew:
* BalefulPolymorph:
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind:
* BigBad:
* BigCreepyCrawlies:
** Anom's entire team at the beginning until he branched out following the end of the AU arc..
** Ammy also happens to be a Bug type specialist.
* BigDamnHeroes:
* BittersweetEnding:
* BoardingParty:
* BossRush:
** XANADOS made copies of the Giant Tortilla, Annoski, Einroth, Edge, Gyru, Toxicroak, Fade, and [[spoiler:Jane]] for the J-Team members in Xanadu to fight.
* BrickJoke:
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl:
** Herbert and Carol fit this trope to a T.
** Pi and Joseph fit this as well. Of course, this is Brooding Boy, Gentle Other Boy.
* ButtMonkey:
* CentralTheme:
* CerebusRollercoaster: See SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness.
* CerebusSyndrome: Compared to most of the other arcs, the AU arc took a hard right on the SlidingScaleOfSillinessVersusSeriousness.
* CharacterMagneticTeam: The main group. It's justified in universe due to people with Attributes tending to attract one another.
* ChastityCouple:
** Most of the human couples in the RP do not partake in any sex or even the hint of sex, either due to asexuality or simply feeling uncomfortable with doing it at the current time.
** Umbra and Lina were known to have had sex while they were together, however.
* ChildSoldiers:
* ContinuityNod:
* ConvectionSchmonvection:
* CoolAirship:
* CulturalPosturing:
* CuteAndPsycho:
* DarkerAndEdgier:
* DeaderThanDead:
* DeathWorld:
* DemonicPossession:
* DeusExMachina:
* DisneyDeath:
* DraggedOffToHell:
* DressingAsTheEnemy:
* EarnYourHappyEnding:
* EasilyForgiven:
* EldritchAbomination:
* EldritchLocation:
* EstablishingCharacterMoment:

[[folder:Tropes F-J]]
* FamousLastWords:
** "Hey.....there really is a tunnel....with a pinprick of light. They were right after all." PMD-B Gamer/Joshua
** "''Heh... At least... I never let them know... Who my true master... Was...''" Ninetails
* FamilyUnfriendlyViolence:
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath:
* FantasticRacism:
* FantasyConflictCounterpart:
* FireForgedFriends:
* FollowTheLeader: Has already spawned a {{snowclone}}.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
* FreakyFridayFlip:
* FunWithAcronyms:
* GenderBender:
* GossipEvolution:
* GreaterScopeVillain:
* GrimUpNorth:
* GroinAttack:
* HalfHumanHybrid:
* HarmlessFreezing:
** This trope is in effect most of the time, DS [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] it several times.
** Subverted when Ghetsis orders Kyurem to freeze everyone to death.
** Also subverted when Jane gets frozen. She gets melted out, but she ends up with a cold.
* HaveYouSeenMyGod:
* HeadPet:
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower:
* HeroWithBadPublicity:
* HumanityEnsues:
* IHaveManyNames:
* ImagineSpot:
* IncurableCoughOfDeath:
* IntergenerationalFriendship:
* InsistentTerminology:
* InterspeciesRomance:

* KeepingSecretsSucks:
* KillEmAll:
* LanguageOfMagic:
* LongLived:
** Dragon types are often capable of making at least a century.
** Volcarona can live for at least a millennium.
* LoveTriangle:
* MegaCorp:
* MeleeATrois:
* MilitariesAreUseless:
* MindScrew:
* ModeLock:
* MonsterOfTheWeek:
** Fool getting [[DemonicPossession possessed by evil]] somehow.
** The giant tortilla monster that everyone in Dewford ended up fighting.
* MoodWhiplash:
* MultinationalTeam:
* {{Mundanger}}:
* MundaneUtility:
* MythologyGag:
* NatureIsNotNice:
* NeglectfulPrecursors: Multiple:
* NiceMeanAndInbetween:
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown:
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
* NightmareSequence:
* NotQuiteBackToNormal:
* OffScreenTeleportation:
* OutDamnedSpot:

* PaintingTheMedium:
* PeoplePuppets:
* PityTheKidnapper:
* PreventTheWar:
* ReferenceOverdosed: In spades.
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated:
* RhymesOnADime:
** Fool's Espeon, Zecora
** All of the Sages in the Sprout Tower.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge:
* RunningGag:
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:
* ShowWithinAShow:
* ShutUpHannibal:
* SiblingTeam:
** The Morendos
** Eskay and Alli Amarin
** Lyuri and Sakura
** Psyche's brothers.
* SleepCute:
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay:
* SpeaksFluentAnimal:
* SpiderSwarm:
* SummoningRitual:
* SuperWeight:
* TheyreCalledPersonalIssuesForAReason:
* TimeAbyss:
** Many of the legendaries are immeasurably old, but this isn't touched on very often.
** Chrome the Metagross would count, being at the very least 100,000 years old and being able to reminisce about seeing cavemen making fire.
* TitleDrop: Very, very often.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl:
* TookALevelInBadass:
* TrueCompanions: The main group.
* TwoGirlsAndAGuy:
** Duke, Lyuri and Sakura in Unova-2, thanks to the former being human at the time and the third member of the girl trio, Hikari, being away for most of the arc.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl:
** Tagg, Gamer, and Jane in the earliest arcs.
** Sam, Herbert and Carol, whenever the three of them are together.
** Amanita, Pianis, and Onion make another such trio.
** Tagg, Herbert, and Ammy form one in Ransei.
* UnderTheMistletoe:
* WeaponOfChoice:
* WarArc:
* WhamEpisode:
** During the Orre arc:
*** Alexia turning out to be a blackmailed Lyuri.
*** Alexiel turning out to be Allen in disguise.
* WhamLine:
* WhatTheHellHero:
* YinYangBomb:
* YouCantGoHomeAgain:
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair:
