Nothing."]] And you realize the people who are there aren't all just frozen and they're...alive and they're '''aware''' and there are billions of them, and you realize all the times when you played Chrono Trigger, '''you''' put them there...
** And that doesn't even factor in the brown pants moment when they try to turn on the computer [[spoiler: "Last Accessed: 105313 years, 3 months, 10 days. Not Found. Not Found. Not Found. Not Found..."]]. * whimper*
* [[http://ficbitches.livejournal.com/14411.html Chocobo Nights]] is just it's own level of horrifying. I've linked to a review of the fic, which has actually become funny after so many readings. The actual fic itself is much more disturbing.
** On the other hand, it's not as bad as the [[http://ficbitches.livejournal.com/6829.html Totoro Hentai Fic]], which, to my complete and utter horror, manages to describe the actual act with enough detail that I can imagine it. * shudders* (Incidentally, this link also leads to a review, which quotes bits and pieces. Which is mildly better than an MST, because that way you don't have to read the entire thing.)
* Any fanfiction touched on by the sporking duo famous for [[Fanfic/NagaEyes Snakes on a Sora]] and [[BodyHorror Penis Hydra Kooshball]] will probably have at least some element of this.
* The RegularShow fan story [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7224527/1/Regular_Addictions Regular Addictions]] involves Benson going on a drug-and-alcohol binge because he is unhappy with his current life and wants to end it all. Since he's a gumball machine (lacking organs and what not), he realizes it leads to nowhere. What's one of the first things he does in his bout of insanity? [[spoiler: He decides to kill Veronica, his ex-girlfriend who is said to have dumped him callously, while saying the lyrics of a song he wrote for her with a dark tone]]. As if that weren't bad enough, [[spoiler: [[ItGotWorse Mordecai had to keep it secret after Benson told him about what happened lest any other event could worsen the situation]]]].
* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5065029/1/Eddward# Eddward]], EdEddNEddy fanfic in which Edd murders and tortures all other kids. [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5085379/1/Johnny The sequel]] is even worse having less murder, but more torture, rape, madness and Lovecraftian tones.

* There is a [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8070574/1/Smirk fanfiction]] based on ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' with Amon sexually assaulting Korra in vivid detail and even successfully drawing parallels to [[WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender Aang's]] encounter with [[EldritchAbomination Koh]]!

** Some of the alternate endings and sequels don't make things any better.

Starting from a noble pirate on his Honeymoon, diving down deep into depression, to the point of starting a war to aleviate boredom, and then after a brief HopeSpot, Hook goes completely mad and starts trying to kill his wife. [[spoiler:And then there's the fact that Tinkerbell is Peter Pan's mother, and in order to survive childbirth they had to use the magic flower from Tangled. Now think about how Peter must have been concieved.]]

* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7033789/1/VOCALOID_Forever This VOCALOID fanfic]], in chapter 6, involves Rin waking up in the middle of the night, walking down the hall, seeing eyes at the end of the hallway, and being "attacked" by it. If you read it carefully, it could be implied that whatever the thing was was attempting to rape her. [[spoiler:However, it's revealed at the end of the chapter that the monster was actually "Caiden" and he wasn't trying to scare her.]] Still, even when you know this, you'll still see it at the end of every hall you walk down at night.

* PokemonChannel is a cute game, right? [[{{TemptingFate}} Nothing based on it could be that bad, right?]]Well, ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to a little gem known as [[http://warriorkloneomon.deviantart.com/art/Pokemon-Dead-Channel-185310792 Pokemon Dead Channel,]] which shows NightmareFuel and {{Gorn}} in their some of their highest and most scarring forms. Here's a nice little description of a Magikarp, and it's not much worse than most of the other discriptions in the story:

* ''FanFic/HogwartsExposed!'' Several examples:
** When Claudia [[spoiler: has sex with Matt. Although she's of age, she is permanently stuck in a ''ten-year-old'' body, which means that the entire thing reads like a guy having sex with a child.]] Add the facts that [[spoiler: Matt claims to have ''[[UnfortunateImplications always been sexually attracted to her,]]'' and the fact that a ten-year-old female's body doesn't even produce lubricant...meaning that not only is the sex creepy, but probably ''way'' more painful than it would be if her physical body matched her actual age.]]
** The description of [[spoiler: Jamie giving a blowjob to Alex.]] The way it's worded, it's like some horrific torture for her.
** The Hermione/Neville scene in Chapter 12 is already deeply unpleasant, but even more so when you [[FridgeHorror consider the subtext]].

Although the gore is mild, the disturbing plot line certainly makes up for it. Everybody blames one another, and at first it's all just he-said she-said and pointing fingers, but then the bloodbath starts.]] The fic is based around the idea that there are seven killers on the loose, each named after the color of the mask they wear, lead by the infamous, shadowy Black and trying to kill off enough nations to completely reform the world order. Japan, Italy, and Germany are the [[AmateurSleuth ones on the hunt for the truth]]. [[spoiler:I'm not going to list everything that happens, but some of the highlights are America masquerading as Canada masquerading as America killing several characters and crushing Japan's fingers as payment for letting his other captives- including Canada-as-America-as-Canada- free, China murdering New Russia on the orders of the killer Yellow and then going bonkers over it, several cities being completely decimated to weaken their nations, America manipulating Canada into killing a boatload of people, including Alaska and Hawai'i- whose death scenes are both cut right away from, although Hawai'i's is over ''Facebook'', for crying out loud- and... well... the entire thing really.]] YMMV as to whether this is truly ''terrifying'', but it's sure not the usual fluffy Hetalia stuff.
* The fic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7421159/1/Revenge Revenge]] for the {{Princess and the Frog}} fandom in which Facilier returns and well..wants revenge. The first chapter isn't horrifying really, just a short thing about his downfall. But then comes the second chapter..[[spoiler: Facilier seems to have fallen for Tiana, he tries to enlist Mama Odies help, she refuses and Facilier has his shadow stab hers to death. Disappointed, he then turns Lois [[BrainwashedAndCrazy into his slave]], has him brutally maul Naveen, dragging the nearly lifeless corpse back to Facilier's Voodoo Emporium. Facilier messes Naveen up a bit more, then hangs him by his short intestine. He then announces he's taking over New Orleans. The citizens don't kindly to this, and Facilier sends Louis on them, mauling and killing people in the process. The deaths seemed rushed, yes but the author has plans for more,including Facilier stitching Naveen together(which may or may not include a song that a certain [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic fandom]] might recognize), and a special [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil ''treat'']] in store for Tiana and Charlotte.]] Of course, like most examples here YMMV.
* This [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4781586/1/Beyond_the_Looking_Glass Gundam Wing]]fic based loosely on the Fatal Frame games, though unfinished, YMMV but I found the death descriptions particularily horrifying.

* The description of Azkaban in MethodsOfRationality--especially the woman who accidentally killed someone, immediately went insane with remorse, and then is forced to relive the moment of the murder over and over by the Dementors. Also, the scenes where Harry is walking around protected by the [[spoiler:True Patronus]], giving momentary relief to the prisoners in the cells he passes, but forced to keep walking and leave them again to the Dementors, and hearing their screams to stay. The in-story Aesop is that Azkaban is simply evil, and afterwards Harry concludes that because the nominally democratic magical government allows Azkaban to exist and in fact runs it, he is under no obligation to obey the wishes of the majority.
* An {{Invader Zim}} fanfic called [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5475867/1/Dark_Harvest Dark Harvest]]by Swing-21. Even the name screams Nightmare Fuel. A fanfic rated M for a very, very good reason. Starts out creepy, ends up with a horrifying TwistEnding... of [[spoiler:Dib actually kidnapping Sara, and the poor reader learns that HE is the one that is stealing organs to keep Zim alive, who had apparently lost his own.]] Zim [[spoiler:isn't stealing organs this time... ALSO, the mental image of Keef, loyal to Zim and...ahem..."donating" his organs, covered in blood and stitches]] gave me the chills. DarkerAndEdgier, anyone?
** Oh, that fic...there's also GIR who is now in ''permanent'' duty-mode--and if you've ever seen the episode where Zim attempted that, you now have a pretty good idea of how creepy he is. [[UpToEleven Now add the fact that in the fic, he can only communicte through shrill, blood-curdling shrieks.]] And then there's the realization that [[spoiler:Dib murdered his own sister to give her organs to Zim, and people NeverFoundTheBody.]] And ''ye gods, the final line...''

* The AvatarTheLastAirbender fanfic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3759272/1/The_Chong_Sheng_Trilogy_War The Chong Sheng Trilogy]]. First installment, ''War'', ends with [[spoiler: Ba Sing Se being carpet bombed to rubble ''while the characters are trapped underground listening to it and freaking out''.]] The second installment, [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4252182/1/The_Chong_Sheng_Trilogy_Peace ''Peace'']], involves among other things [[spoiler: Katara witnessing Jet's torture and murder at the hands of the Rhinos, and subsequently going on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge ... ''using their own blood to literally rip them apart'']], a side-story involving some original characters [[spoiler: where a troubled soldier tortures his own father by slowly removing his skin in small patches and giving him an occasional hit of opium ''just to keep him conscious through it'']], and lastly, [[spoiler: Zuko confronting and killing Ozai, who has lost his mind entirely to the point that he thinks he's fighting ''Iroh'' instead.]] Also, one of the aforementioned original characters [[spoiler: is a borderline pedophile, and very heavily implied to be sexing it up with Azula.]] Wonderful fic, but ''holy crow'' it's some of the most disturbing stuff I've ever read in my life.

* I have been a writer for FanFiction.net for ages, and often read many of the more deranged stories, simply because I always had a bit of a morbid curiosity. Anyway, I do remember once coming about a ZombieApocalyspe story, set in the Hamtaro universe of all places. It was definitely scarier as a teen, now, maybe not so much. But it does make one wonder if the story was just an odd mashup or someone who really hates anime hamsters.

** Chapter 9 deserves a special mention. [[spoiler:Sokka discovers an old shrine in the swamp, and insists on taking the coins, saying they'll be of more use to them than some spirit. This results in '''terrifying''' visions; instead of simply vanishing, the image of Katara's mother turns around and ''decays'', and sets Katara on fire saying "Would you rather have died instead?" Katara then drowns herself, hallucinating swimming down into a bottomless pool in a failed effort to put out the flames. Sokka, meanwhile, sees Yue, who accuses him much more aggressively of not only not protecting her, but ''sacrificing'' her, and shoves him down into the water, with him unable to break free. Aang sees an Air Nomad girl who condemns him for leaving his people to die, and he finds himself covered in blood that only grows thicker and spreads further when he tries to wash it off. He's pretty much about to go crazy until, by chance, his hand brushes against the burning hot coin pouch, and he desperately throws it into the water. He winds up at the big tree, with the others' bodies floating next to him.]] So much for sleeping this week.
** Second place goes to the chapter whose events culminate in Zhao's successful (permanent) murder of the Moon Spirit. Naturally, the moon is responsible for a lot of things that keep the world in balance, but along with all the ones you'd expect (most of which destroy many livelihoods), there's another, more directly damaging loss: female fertility. Everybody in the world lives the rest of their lives helplessly watching all of humanity slowly die out.
*** You forgot the part where '''''Koh actually succeeds in stealing Aang's face and then laughs at him with his own voice as he toys with Aang's body.'''''
* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5785522/1/bVisio_b_bVestri_b_Character_Battle_VIII_Fanfiction Visio Vestri]], a MegaCrossover Fanfic which depicts the GameFAQs Character Battle of 2010 as a contest where 128 videogame characters must scale [[{{Persona3}} Tartarus]] and face [[YourWorstNightmare their worse nightmares]]. It is actually a nice fanfic, but [[CallOfDuty Captain Price's]] death is disturbing. [[spoiler:After the Reaper blasts him with [[LightIsNotGood a spell of blinding light]], his body RIPS APART and he LAUGHS as this happens.]]
* You all know Blaine from ''Glee''? YMMV on him as a character, but most would agree he's not the first character you would think of as a serial killer. Except for some reason Glee fandom [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation LOVES]] making him one, as well as... [[ImAHumanitarian other things]]. One fic in particular gave me nightmares. [[http://candybal.livejournal.com/712.html Under Your Skin]] by candybal. What starts out as a seemingly sweet date night between Kurt and Blaine ends up with [[spoiler: Blaine graphically torturing Kurt to death, including tying him up with barbed wire, giving him a Chelsea grin with piano wire, severing several fingers, and removing one of his eyes with a spoon.]] The ending does a fade to black right before it's heavily implied that Blaine is about to [[spoiler: rape a dying Kurt through his now hollowed out eye socket.]] The worst part about this ending? [[spoiler: Because of the drugs Blaine finally gave Kurt to make the process less painful, Kurt is so high that he's somewhat ENJOYING it.]] Blaine's happy, childlike, and generally loving attitude throughout the whole thing makes this somehow even more terrifying.
* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3224332/1/Counts_of_Blood Counts of Blood]] is a good ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' that crosses over with the ''Muppets'', of all things, but it's portrayal of Count von Count is ''terrifying''. For starters, [[spoiler: he apparently cut up a mathemetician into over a hundred pieces and put them in small boxes,]] and early on in the story, [[spoiler:''removes the feet of the poor sap who took the pills he needs to curb his violent tendencies'']] Dear Lord, I never thought I'd be afraid of ''friggin [[SesameStreet Count von Count]]''...!

** "Walking Through Nightmares" deserves a special mention. It's ''brutally'' cynical, taking all the tropes associated with cheery medical recovery and slashing them apart. The patient goes out to see some kids? Almost dies from a cold after getting sneezed on by a little girl. The patient's friends come in to joke with him? Over-excitement causes an asthma attack that requires he be put into a ''medically-induced coma''. It also contains brief-but-unsettling violence and an exceptionally creepy subplot about chemical agents testing.
* Holy crap, this {{Digimon}} fanfic. The things this dude does get more and more squicky than the last. Go ahead. [[{{ShmuckBait}} Do it.]] [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6092284/1/From_the_Shadows_Tormented_Soul I DARE you]].

* The Harry Potter fiction, poetically titled Squick [[{{Squick}} why yes, that word...]], which involves Lucius Malfoy and Draco, as Lucius [[spoiler: With his son bound in a basement of sorts, proceeds to take a crank drill to his sons head, slowly drill a hole as Draco screams in pain. And though it says by the time he reached the brain, Draco was dead, the fact that he happily rapes his son in the head and uses his feces as lubricant while all of this is serenaded by the sound of [[{{Squick}} "squick squick squick"]] doesn't make it a whole lot easier to accept or stomach.]]

** I think nearly anything found on [[http://www.toplessrobot.com/search.php?tag=Fan%20Fiction&blog_id=132 FFF--Fan Fiction Friday]] can be considered in this trope.

* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7126756/1/The_Never_Never_Land The Never Never Land]] A Harry Potter fanfic where [=McGonagall=] takes in the grand-daughter of an old friend. It turns out the grandmother had possibly gone mad and created a series of potions to freeze the girl at ten. It's implied that the girl has also [[spoiler: been kept locked up in the house for years with only granny and a house elf for company and was probably abused emotionally as well]]. Also, the kid is one hell of a Creepy Child. She talks like a robot and needs precise directions. When the grandmother kicked it [[spoiler: she spent about four days in the house with the dead body, going about her business]]. The author promises {{Body Horror}} in later chapters.
* Never, ''ever'' Google Image Search for "[[{{Pokemon}} Realistic Gengar]]" late at night. Seriously, ''don't''. [[hottip:*:This is technically fan ''art'', but it still counts.]]
* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5044501/ Our little Doll]], a ''Literature/{{Coraline}}'' fanfic, where the Other Mother ''rapes'' Coraline. We don't get the actual rape, but the preparation is shown in graphic detail (Coraline being bound and having her clothes ripped off her body by Other Mother). And then it is revealed Other Mother can '''take control''' of Coraline, forcing her to come [[ItGotWorse again and again]]...
** The worst thing is that unlike, say, AgonyInPink, this one is totally In-Charachter, and retains the feel of the original: when you read it, you feel something like this '''could''' happen in the setting.

* Ladies and Gentlemen, [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1080791/Mangogirl Mangogirl]] the single most messed up, AxeCrazy, disgusting pervert of a Lemonfic writer who ever lived. Each and every one of them is vomit and nightmare inducing it's own unique way, but the cream of the crop must be ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3828434/1/New_Beginnings New Begginings]]'', which features James from ''SilentHill2'' screaming "PUNISH ME FOR MY SIIIIIIINNNNNS!" while Pyramidhead rapes him to death.
** Summing it up a bit more succintly: You ever hear of "[[MemeticMutation Squad Broken]]"? The story that managed to make ''{{Warhammer 40000}}'' fans feel uncomfortable? ''Hers.''
** I don't know, some of the lines just push it into funny territory. Example in this stunning case of {{Metaphorgotten}}:

* ComicsNix. If you don't know who that is, just google that name...[[ShmuckBait if you dare]]!
** For everyone who finds his [[{{Squick}} stories]] to be Nightmare Fuel, there are those who find them to be prime examples of [[TrollFic intentionally]] [[SoBadItsGood bad]] and utterly [[CrowningMomentOfFunny hilarious]] parodies. Plus, the guy somehow manages to go BeyondTheImpossible in [[RougeAnglesOfSatin typos]], [[AnatomicallyImpossibleSex inaccuracies]] and [[RefugeInVulgarity disgusting insanity]], while still peppering in correctly-spelled and used terms that most REAL badfic writers wouldn't know.
* The ''Literature/{{Twilight}}'' fanfic ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4567400/1/Seven Seven]]'' by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/967557/Estora Estora]] made my skin crawl.

* ''Fanfic/NagaEyes''. Sora and the Vorephile!Naga Riku who lives to rape and eat passers-by.
* The entirety of "[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4633752/1/He_Had_No_Fingers He had no fingers]]", a sort of CosmicHorror ''{{Naruto}}'' fic, starting with Naruto's body and spirit getting warped beyond recognition by the kyuubi until... well, the title is indicative. "Highlight" right at the beginning: [[spoiler:Naruto's belly opening up and DEVOURING Kakashi (and Naruto then feeding the bits to passing strays).]] And that's basically the mildest thing in the whole fic.
** I was particularly horrified by [[spoiler:the part where one of the Kyuubi's minions (for lack of a better word) entice the village ''including men, women and children, to commit murder/suicide'']]. Hell, the whole thing is one Nightmare Fuel moment after another. H.P. Lovecraft and Junji Ito would be proud.
* The aptly named horror fic ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4868294/1/Nightmares Nightmares]]''. This is a fanfic of ''TheBraveLittleToaster'', a movie already known for Nightmare Fuel. To clarify, the story is a series of first-person vignettes, detailing the horrific dreams of the other four main characters during Toaster's NightmareSequence. It starts out only slightly unsettling, but gradually builds up, accumulating in the truly horrifying Chapter 4. '''Never, ever, under any cicumstances,''' should you attempt to read this story late at night.
* ''Clown''. Chapter four especially. Read it, [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5652689/1/Clown I dare you!]] It should be noted that the author himself put a content warning at the beginning.
* This ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'' fic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5415162/1/bBlood_b_Is_bThicker_b Blood Is Thicker]], one of the few vampire fics that really stands out, with dread starting only a few paragraphs in. The BigBad is [[spoiler:Lloyd's grandmother]], Maetala, a CompleteMonster of a caliber that left me constantly asking the author variations of "Where is [[{{Hellsing}} Alucard]] when you need him?!" After turning Lloyd into a vampire, she twists and manipulates him into giving up what little humanity he has still retained [[spoiler:encouraging him to eat a boar alive is probably the ''least'' horrifying thing she does all fic long]], and the results leave Lloyd, a canonical {{Determinator}} a ''psychological wreck'' and makes it ''horrifically believable.'' The result was a ten chapter long nightmare that only allowed me to sigh in relief for the last sixth of the final chapter.
* Nothing in the ''{{Bleach}}'' fic "Blue Eyed Lover" is particularly HO Nightmare Fuel to me, except the Author Comments. The nut that wrote this believed he was writing an epic for the ages (even when he revealed in his last "chapter" that he, the account owner, was getting the script from his cousin, or some such bull) and treated any criticism, regardless of how justified it was (and it was VERY justified) as flaming or troll attempts. Sometime in early March he said he got over seventy emails that all said the fic sucked. Granted, this is true, but the fact remains that this guy thought he could write an epic fic when he stated in a response to my review that he had ROLLED DICE to determine who would Hollowfy.
* Most of the fanfics in the literature section of Gurochan. I dare you to go over there and read their works. One warning: [[NightmareFuel YOU WILL NOT SLEEP TONIGHT]].
* You wouldn't think HONF and ''Anime/LuckyStar'' could go together...until you read ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5246822/1/Ahoge Ahoge]]''. Tsukasa is (arguably) taken down to extreme [[TheDitz ditz]] levels when she thinks Konata's IdiotHair could grow into a plant... This is either [[TookALevelInBadass badass]] or just plain CharacterDerailment. The last chapter is an especially horrifying as Sojiro Izumi takes revenge on the entire Hiiragi family [[spoiler:through ColdBloodedTorture. A, umm, ''nail gun'' is involved at one point]]. You probably won't look at Tsukasa the same way again.

* Much of the ''Evangelion'' fic ''FanFic/AndIfThatDontWork'' qualifies, but really the standout if when the acid-dripping spider angel managed to turn [[spoiler:the entry plug of Unit 02]] into a vat of acid and the resultant fate of [[spoiler:the pilot]].
** This is even worse considering her fate is blatant AuthorAppeal; ''none'' of the characters view it to be a bad thing for more than a few sentences and even [[spoiler:Asuka herself]] considers it an improvement.

* The Viridian Forest chapter of the DarkerAndEdgier Pokemon fanfic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5367085/1/The_Sun_Soul "The Sun Soul."]] You'll never think a weedle is cute and wimpy ''ever again''.
* DarkerAndEdgier {{Redwall}} fanfic ''Vengeance Quest'' is brilliant, but terrifying. The violence was one thing, but I was most creeped out by Guardcaptain Kiern's attit mude: he's pretty sure the actions of his sadistic co-workers are morally wrong, ''[[WellIntentionedExtremist and lets them happen anyway]].'' There's a scene where Captain Veneno rapes a prisoner in order to force her husband to spill the info they need, in front of Kiern, who's getting progressively more uncomfortable, but still doesn't do anything to stop him because there's no other way they'll get the information. Later on he talks to BigBad Nightdeath Longclaws about it, essentially asking to be persuaded that it was okay to do this. Brrrr.

* HighOctaneNightmareFuel/YuYuGiDigiMoon

* ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4512759/1/bGeass_b_no_bnaku_b_bkoro_b_bni_b_when_bgeass_b_cries_out Geass no naku koro ni when geass cries out]]'' is by far one of the MOST disturbing, unsettling fanfics I have ever read. Read it if you dare. People get crushed to death, people itch their skin and peel it RIGHT OFF.....and then rip their windpipes out.....I will not sleep tonight.
* Most of [[XMeetsY X meets]] [[AndIMustScream I have no mouth and I must scream]] fanfics deserve a place here forever, especially [[KatawaShoujo Katawa Shoujo]] crossover "With apologies to Harlan Elliston" - http://ks.renai.us/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=5538. There is something.. chilling while reading constant mind/body rapes about girls from a somewhat hearhwarming visual novel. Abandon all hope those who still have it.
* ''[[FanFic/TiberiumWars Tiberium Wars]]'' is ''loaded'' with this, most often dealing with [[ChurchMilitant the Brotherhood of Nod]]. Among the highlights:

* And by the same author, ''[[FanFic/{{Forward}} Forward]]'', a ''{{Firefly}}'' fic that doesn't skimp on the NightmareFuel from the series. In the first story arc alone, you have [[spoiler:River and Jayne]] being graphically [[spoiler:tortured by Niska.]] Then later on, you get more graphic brutality with [[spoiler:the Reavers assaulting an Alliance ship.]]

*** To put the Inducer threat in perspective, the Academy would ordinarily try to hunt them down with their security staff of Blanks, who are immune to psychics. However, since they're running a bit of a shortage on Blanks (having lost at least five to the ''Serenity'' crew...), they hired an entire company of mercenary troops, including hundreds of infantry and ''[[MoreDakka gunship support]]'' to take out a single Inducer [[spoiler:who by the way is ''nine years old'']].
*** And its justified. The mercenaries were needed because [[spoiler:the Inducer had an entire village under her control, and she apparently had them massacre a nearby Blue Sun lab, and also had one of the villagers kill a priest who had figured out what was going on and then had the man commit suicide.]] The mercenaries in question went in with orders to kill ''everyone'' because that was the only way to be sure.
*** Note that all of the above is what happens when the Inducer is trying to be subtle and controlled. In "Hunt", [[spoiler:River]] gets a full blast of an enraged Inducer's mental manipulation; the resulting MindRape scene is horrifying, as [[spoiler:Kathryn]] proceeds to mentally crush [[spoiler:River]] and shreds any attempts she makes to even think on her own.
*** There is one bit of hope, though: If you're skilled enough at controlling your emotions (like [[spoiler: Zoe learned to be during the war]]) you ''can'' retain some semblance of sanity while an Inducer is attacking you. Don't expect to get out the other end without being scarred, though.
** Mal: ''"I need a hacksaw."''

* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7310671/1/Little_Whore_liked_it This little "gem"]], whose author has already been mentioned in the FashionVictimVillain page. Graces us with [[ThoseWackyNazis Josef Mengele]] torturing [[TheLandBeforeTime Ducky]] sexually. YMMV, though, as it is also very, very {{Narm}}tastic.
* An Axis Powers Hetalia fanfiction called ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5399721/1/Awakening Awakening]] has Canada and America being taken as prisoners of war by the Germans. They are then sent to Auschwitz and experimented on by Dr. Mengele. These are some of the more horrifying scenes from this fanfiction.
** Canada [[spoiler:has blue dye injected into his eyes]], while America is [[spoiler: dissected alive and infected with tuberculosis and typhus.]]
** YMMV on this. I found it more depressing than actually scary, but either way it ''will'' lead to bad dreams.
* Technically fanart, but [[http://fav.me/d38cdui this]] DA submission of [[AxisPowersHetalia Germany]] being tortured definitely fits the bill. Word of advice, it is a million times worse than the description sounds. It is so much worse. Don't look at this if you value your sanity.

* Any ''[[RanmaOneHalf Ranma 1/2]]'' fanfiction where manly man Ranma ''gets in touch'' with his feminine side, to the extent of thinking of himself as female, having a boyfriend, getting pregnant, having kids and becoming of a "mother" mentality, the slow loss of identity in a fashion that typically seems disturbingly similar to TheVirus being made all the creepier by the fact that the authors seem to think of it as a Good Thing, some even implying (if not claiming} that [[MoralDissonance being female is inherently superior to being male and so Ranma should be grateful he can make the transition]]. Reading this makes you feel like Ranma is getting mind-raped into something that may look like his female form, but [[LossOfIdentity there's absolutely nothing inside that remotely resembles him anymore]]... I've seen a fic where it worked on that exact plot point, and other than the magic spell and it was not being presented as a good thing by everyone else, there was no visible difference between it and almost every other "feminine side" fic.
** Further fueling the terrifying nature of this common theme for fanfics, Ranma is '''not''' a transgender person except under the most loose physically orientated definitions of the term. Ranma was born male, his self-image is male, he was quite comfortable with being male and he canonically wants to be ''all male'' again. He has absolutely no interest in being a woman, hates it, finds it alternatively terrifying, humiliating and embarrasing. He's strong enough to use it to his advantage (and it ''causes'' more problems than it can help with), but that's neccessity, not out of desire to be even partially a woman.
* A lot of ''TheDarkKnight'' fanfic, though capable of being really well written, gives me the jibblies. There's worse things than simply watching the Joker do something unbelievably disturbing and that's reading about it narrated in the first person, without that whole PG-13 thing in play, and with the sadistic pleasure he takes in it very, very clear. Not to mention all sorts of possible {{Squick}} but that's in play in any fandom. I can no longer ''look'' at Gary Oldman without being infinitely disturbed...
** I ''write'' some of those disturbing [[TheDarkKnight Dark Knight]] Joker fanfics. No, not [[FoeYay those]] [[VictimFallsForRapist ones]]. ''[[ColdBloodedTorture Those]]'' ones. TheJoker is a sadistic, cruel monster, and he's just not written right if he doesn't act like he is. My most disturbing fic, in my opinion, is an M-rated TakeThat to all the Joker[=/=]MarySue VictimFallsForRapist fics that inexperienced "Romance" authors write (ironically, rape in fanfiction is one of my big Nightmare Fuel triggers, especially if the rapist is already a CompleteMonster). And actually, it's a HUGE compliment amongst those of us who do write Dark Knight fanfiction if you tell us that our Joker's portrayal and/or actions in a fic scared you. It's what we aim for, really...

* Old, old [[Series/DoctorWho Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane]] fanfic in which SJ awakens from a nightmare, in which she and the Doctor [[spoiler:have suffocated in the TARDIS control room.]] At which point he comforts her, pecks her on the forehead, and [[spoiler:carries her through the closed doors of the TARDIS, holding her so that she can't see the two dead bodies on the control room floor.]] Couldn't sleep for three nights after reading that one.

* [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1229211/07Matt This Fanfiction.net user]] used to parody/corrupt ''SpongeBob'' episodes through textual form, not only putting in ''tons'' of sexual content, but also, ''tons'' of sometimes nightmare-inducing, gory violence. A particular example of the gory violence stands out in the [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3421927/1/SpongeBob_SexPants_2_Karate_Choppers_Parody second "episode"]] of the series, parodying ''Karate Choppers'' (in this user's version, SpongeBob and Sandy fight each other [[spoiler:through sex (by the way-- lots of long, and borderline {{NSFW}} information coming up): In the part that parodies the beginning scene in the original episode where a paranoid [=SpongeBob=] attacks randomly, thinking Sandy is sneaking up on him, he ''rapes'' Gary, and then ''orgasms'' whilst the raping, causing Gary to explode not like a bomb-- but in a suddenly ''realistic'' sense. An entire paragraph nearly consists only of chillingly horrifying detail about the aftermath of the explosion (hint: semen everywhere). Squick, Squick, SQUICK!!!!!!!!!]]

* ''All the Roads We Have To Walk'' starting in [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1908501/29/All_the_Roads_We_Have_To_Walk chapter 29]] with mist you can't see through and invisible heartless it continues to ramp up the terrifying factor ever chapter with darkness mirror mazes horrible grotesques and live burials all the way to its macabre conclusion/crescendo where the disturbing castle setting collapses what ends up making it scary though is the implication that some of the mad scientist's experiments might me running lose and Sora's observations to the contrary is just his own denial as there are invisible heartless lurking about...
** Somehow the run-on sentence makes this example that much creepier. Almost like the above editor [[ParanoiaFuel had to rush to write it down]] [[OhCrap before]].
* Such as "''KingOfTheHill'': Episode One[[ColonCancer :]] Peggy's Revenge". Don't want to look there, but seriously, the plot sounds messed up. Plus, "episode one" could imply that the writer has, or will make, another episode.
* [[TotalDramaComeback Bridgette's nightmare.]] Dear lord, Bridgette's nightmare. How do I put this sequence that begins chapter 24? Hhm, let's see. It begins with a blood-stained Bridgette huddling in the corner of the shack, crying in pure fear after having just witnessed [[spoiler:Geoff's murder.]] Suddenly, she hears snapping twigs and the creek of a door. She also sees Ezekiel's toque. Is it him here to comfort Bridgette and get her away from the camp grounds [[spoiler:just like Geoff tried to do?]] Nope. Its a cleaver weilding Eva, back from a killing spree of everyone on camp. Long story short: she's next!

* There's [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1120881/THE_PETE_PETERSON_EXPERIENCE a writer]] on ff.net whose volume of work consists almost entirely of extremely gory, badly-written, but extremely disturbing short stories in multple categories in which a character randomly dies gruesomely, most of them titled "(Name Of Character) Dies a Horrible Death". Interestingly, the extreme badness of the writing makes the stories even more nightmare-inducing, seeing as the language is abrupt and casual and stilted, as though a kid was writing them without putting any serious thought into it or feeling as though there was anything serious about the stories. Just take a minute to think about what kind of person would write like that....
** His page is also unnerving, reading somewhere between ApocalypticLog, RoomFullOfCrazy, and SanitySlippage.

* ''LatiasJourney'' contains some utterly ''horrifying'' imagery. The tamest? A full on bloodbath at Wing Fortress where Pokémon babies are being ripped apart and eaten.
** Not to mention the main villain, Deoxys. Let's just say he redefines the term CompleteMonster.When you see his actions in their entirety,you'll worry about the author's mental state for creating a villain like this.

Plus, the guy somehow manages to go BeyondTheImpossible in [[RougeAnglesOfSatin typos]], [[AnatomicallyImpossibleSex inaccuracies]] and [[RefugeInVulgarity disgusting insanity]], while still peppering in correctly-spelled and used terms that most REAL badfic writers wouldn't know.

* You all know Blaine from ''Glee''? [[YourMileageMayVary YMMV]] on him as a character, but most would agree he's not the first character you would think of as a serial killer. Except for some reason Glee fandom [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation LOVES]] making him one, as well as... [[ImAHumanitarian other things]]. One fic in particular gave me nightmares. [[http://candybal.livejournal.com/712.html Under Your Skin]] by candybal. What starts out as a seemingly sweet date night between Kurt and Blaine ends up with [[spoiler: Blaine graphically torturing Kurt to death, including tying him up with barbed wire, giving him a Chelsea grin with piano wire, severing several fingers, and removing one of his eyes with a spoon.]] The ending does a fade to black right before it's heavily implied that Blaine is about to [[spoiler: rape a dying Kurt through his now hollowed out eye socket.]] The worst part about this ending? [[spoiler: Because of the drugs Blaine finally gave Kurt to make the process less painful, Kurt is so high that he's somewhat ENJOYING it.]] Blaine's happy, childlike, and generally loving attitude throughout the whole thing makes this somehow even more terrifying.

* The fic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7421159/1/Revenge Revenge]] for the {{Princess and the Frog}} fandom in which Facilier returns and well..wants revenge. The first chapter isn't horrifying really, just a short thing about his downfall. But then comes the second chapter..[[spoiler: Facilier seems to have fallen for Tiana, he tries to enlist Mama Odies help, she refuses and Facilier has his shadow stab hers to death. Disappointed, he then turns Lois [[BrainwashedAndCrazy into his slave]], has him brutally maul Naveen, dragging the nearly lifeless corpse back to Facilier's Voodoo Emporium. Facilier messes Naveen up a bit more, then hangs him by his short intestine. He then announces he's taking over New Orleans. The citizens don't kindly to this, and Facilier sends Louis on them, mauling and killing people in the process. The deaths seemed rushed, yes but the author has plans for more,including Facilier stitching Naveen together(which may or may not include a song that a certain [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic fandom]] might recognize), and a special [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil ''treat'']] in store for Tiana and Charlotte.]] Of course, like most examples here [[YourMileageMayVary YMMV]].
* This [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4781586/1/Beyond_the_Looking_Glass Gundam Wing]]fic based loosely on the Fatal Frame games, though unfinished, [[YourMilageMayVary YMMV]] but I found the death descriptions particularily horrifying.

While the entire story is very well-written and absolutely terrifying, here are some choice moments:

It's a series of one shots depicting a rather [[HighOctaneNightmareFuel different]] ending to what we're expected from episodes and moments in the show. For example, [[spoiler:Katara, in her little undercover mission to save Haru from the Earthbending Prison, is captured and sentenced to the barrocks for the men to [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil play with]].]] Then, [[spoiler:Remember when Zhao said he wouldn't kill the Avatar, but keep him alive, but just barely?]]. Honestly, it's a Darker and Edger retelling of most of the series, and once you read them, you'll be glad the Series had the endings that it DID.

* Just about anything Ann-Kathrin Kniggendorf (otherwise known as [=AKK=]) wrote for ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfTheGalaxyRangers''. [[http://www.annkniggendorf.de/gr/fanfic/thelie.html "The Lie"]] has a brutal rape depiction that can shock even the most veteran reader, and acts as a crushing inversion of DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale. It says something when the poor hero views having his soul ripped out afterwards as a relief! Her pre-series Supertrooper works are all the more chilling when you hear the violence and death described with clinical precision. [[http://www.annkniggendorf.de/gr/fanfic/walkingthroughnightmares.html Walking Through Nightmares]] depicts severe asthma, lung damage, and the inability to breathe in graphic detail. And then there's [[http://www.annkniggendorf.de/gr/fanfic/raumjaeger.html Raumjaeger]]. Oh, shit. The classic idea of "what if Nazi Germany won" played for all the HighOctaneNightmareFuel you can imagine and then some. You will ''not'' be sleeping well after it, especially after little details like the human-skin lampshade. Worse is that Ann-Kathrin, like half of the fandom's writers, is German and English isn't her first language. The show itself? A ''kids cartoon'' from TheEighties.

* Fanfic/ImperfectMetamorphosis' [[WhamEpisode Chapter 31]]. This story is already dark, taking many {{Touhou}} ideas and twisting them just enough to inspire terror and awe. And then you reach this chapter, and the slowly dawning dream from the last four chapters breaks and you realise that [[EldritchAbomination Yuuka]] [[CompleteMonster Kazami]] (already an insane supplier of HighOctaneNightmareFuel scenes) has [[spoiler: [[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou broken through the fourth wall]] ]] with the simple words:

* PokemonChannel is a cute game, right? [[{{TemptingFate}} Nothing based on it could be that bad, right?]]Well, ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to a little gem known as [[http://warriorkloneomon.deviantart.com/art/Pokemon-Dead-Channel-185310792 Pokemon Dead Channel,]] which shows HighOctaneNightmareFuel and {{Gorn}} in their some of their highest and most scarring forms. Here's a nice little description of a Magikarp, and it's not much worse than most of the other discriptions in the story:

** Also worth noting is this little fact that was found out though stalking the author's DeviantART profile: ''She was thirteen at the time of writing it.'' Yeah, someone that young who's able to come up with things [[{{Gorn}} like]] [[{{HighOctaneNightmareFuel}} this.]]

* ''TheShapeOfTheNightmareToCome''. Long story short - perfect example how to make {{Warhammer40000}} even more packed with HighOctaneNightmareFuel than it already was. Just few examples:

The worst part is that it actually has pretty decent writing, grammar, and punctuation. [[FridgeHorror Who on earth would turn their writing talents to this monstrosity?]] (This fanfic actually gained notoriety in the Tenchi fanfic-author community, including a prominent Tenchi fanfic-reviewer of the time creating a new category just for this fic.... [[TakeThat represented with the kanji character for "death."]])

* ''ThePokemonStory''. All of it.
** What's more terrifying than this story? There's a good chance it wasn't a troll fic. That's right, there could be someone THAT messed up. Sweet dreams.

* The ''SailorMoon'' Fanfic, ''[[FanFic/ChibiUsasSeventhBirthday ChibiUsa's Seventh Birthday]]''. The whole thing is Nightmare Fuel. Especially when Makoto [[spoiler:Climbs into [=ChibiUsa=] with all four limbs.]] If you know what I mean.

* ''AgonyInPink''.

* An AxisPowersHetalia fic called "FanFic/{{Debt}}". A rundown of the events that happen:
** China chops off America's arms and England's legs (England without anesthetic)
** China rapes America while calling him a slutty whore.
** China makes America have sex with England.
** He then proceeds to make the two clean up the house with their tongues while dressed in Maid outfits. America has to be on his toes at all times because a needle is in his high heel, to puncture his foot if he goes on his heels.
** China rapes them again.
** China dresses them as dogs and rapes them some more.
** He tears out their eyes and has sex with England through his eye socket.
** America and England roll on the ground, sobbing pathetically.
*** And that's just the ''first chapter''. In the third, America and England try to escape. Since you know it's doomed to failure, it's hard to read. China discovers this, and makes them have sex with dogs (shudder) and slices out their tongues.
*** The next few chapters introduce Hong Kong (undoubtedly serving as a HopeSpot, seeing as he's worlds nicer than China). The seventh chapter is probably the scariest since the first few: America and England start to get used to being armless, legless, eyeless, toungueless, raped messes: China mentions other countries after the World's Conference (France is very quiet due to England being gone, Canada taking over America's attitude). But he doesn't say that. He says that the other countries didn't even notice they were gone. Sheesh.

** The same authors give us ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7836581/1/Dissection Dissection,]]'' which one reviewer described as 'FanFic/{{Cupcakes}}, but with more rape.' The [[{{PWP}} 'plot']] consists of Japan preforming vivisection on England. Unlike China in the above fanfic, he doesn't dislike England at all. In fact, he tells England that he's doing this ''because he likes him.'' The fic ends with a [[NauseaFuel lovely]] description of [[spoiler: Japan removing England's cranium and ''[[{{Squick}} proceeding to fuck out his brain.]]]]''
* Another Axis Powers Hetalia fanfiction called ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5399721/1/Awakening Awakening]] has Canada and America being taken as prisoners of war by the Germans. They are then sent to Auschwitz and experimented on by Dr. Mengele. These are some of the more horrifying scenes from this fanfiction.

** Kim [[spoiler: being forced by her "friends" to strip, being called a baby when she doesn't want a male partner in her morning exercises (because he'd look up her shorts and his hands would be on her thighs), and generally told that if she doesn't become a nudist, the girls won't be her friends. Kim is ''eleven.'' And she ''cries about her treatment, but no one ever helps her.'']] This is all sexual abuse and assault, and it is very creepy and triggering.
** Probably the worst part of all of this is that the author apparently ''sees nothing wrong with any of this, nor do his fans.''
*** A bit of Fridge Horror as to what kind of fans a fic like that attracts.
** The worst part about ''FanFic/HogwartsExposed'' is that all of the characters' sickening perversions are treated as ''absolutely righteous and good''. Kim's fate especially is ''extremely'' disturbing; she at first comes off as a sweet, shy, nervous girl who needs a good friend to guide her through Hogwarts. Catlin, Jamie, and Emily take advantage of that need to force her into nudism–what they do to her at some points is indefensible sexual assault, such as stripping her clothes off her and forcing her to do exercises with the aforementioned boy. That's not the worst part–the worst part is that she ''is [[YouWillBeAssimilated eventually]] [[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashed]] and [[MindRape abused]] into [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie joining their side]]''. Anyone who tries to help her is branded as a "[[MoralGuardian prude]]", ObstructiveBureaucrat, or ''[[{{Irony}} child abuser.]]'' Good luck ''not'' wanting to call in a [[CoolPlane Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low]] to reduce Harry's daughters into tiny, tiny pieces. And let's not even get started on poor Ron...
*** Oh, Ron...''Ohhhh, Ron.'' Ron eventually marries a woman who, as it turns out, has the same twisted ideals as Caitlin, Jamie, and Emily. Clearly uncomfortable with this, he begs her to put some clothes, but she (along with ''everyone else in the fanfic'') accuses him of being a controlling, abusive husband. He is constantly being painted as an evil and abusive man, when actually, ''he'' is the victim in this! And then [[spoiler: they have a son...and mommy teaches him to do the exact same thing she and Harry/Hermione's adopted daughters do. Ron tries to speak up on behalf of his son, tries to help, but as usual, he is faced with accusations of being abusive. [[AdultFear So now all Ron can do is live in a home where he is abused by his wife, watching her subject their son to what is technically sexual abuse, and he can do nothing to stop it, nor will anyone help him.]]]]
