Added DiffLines:

** "So Good Right Now" is an upbeat, Motown-style number with lyrics talking about the singer desperately cutting themselves down to try and make a doomed relationship last longer. The ''first lyrics'' are even "I've got this doom and gloom in my mind".
** "What a Time To Be Alive" sounds very lively despite the lyrics talking about the trauma caused by the UsefulNotes/Covid19 pandemic, including the stark line "seems the vulture's getting too full to fly".

* EmoMusic: One of the most contentious topics you'll hear discussed about the band, as the page intro would tell you. Your understanding of emo likely informs whether or not you think emo was a footnote in FOB's story or a defining aspect. In the mid-00s, Fall Out Boy were seen by some as the poster children for "emo pop", described as a style mixing the gloominess and hardcore punk elements of emo with catchy pop punk. That being said, a lot of bands including Fall Out Boy were lumped into that categorization and mocked to the point where that categorization would be considered a smear rather than an accurate assessment of their genre. As mentioned in the note on top of the page, Fall Out Boy took influence from early emo acts such as Music/{{Jawbreaker}} and Braid (The title of "Grand Theft Autumn" is a direct reference to a Braid song of the same name), but the band started swerving from that path by the release of ''Infinity on High'', even as soon as ''From Under The Cork Tree'' if you're feeling charitable. The early emo influence fell out in favor of general pop rock with a particular emphasis on the ''pop'' and [[GenreRoulette experimentation in other genres]] by way of incorporating elements of hip-hop, electronic music, and others. Even with the early emo influences, Fall Out Boy never considered themselves an emo band and often rejected being lumped in with the other bands that got put into the category around the mid-00s, even calling the tendency out lyrically on Thriller[[note]]Make us poster boys for your scene, but we are not making an acceptance speech[[/note]] and the entirety of "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race".

In 2013, the band confirmed the end of their hiatus as they finished recording their fifth album, ''Save Rock and Roll''; their sixth, ''American Beauty/American Psycho'', was released in 2015. After a cryptic trailer release stunt in Chicago-area movie theaters that went horribly wrong when they didn't air at the time the band advertised, fans eventually discovered what was next: the band's seventh album ''M A N I A''. Originally planned to release in late 2017, the album was instead delayed to early 2018, as the band felt it was being "rushed" and wanted to make something they felt more comfortable with releasing.

Fall Out Boy (or FOB for short) are an American rock band, formed in 2001 in Illinois. The band consists of Patrick Stump (vocals, rhythm guitar), Joe Trohman (lead guitar), Pete Wentz (bassist, lyricist), and Andy Hurley (drums). Fall Out Boy are a pop-punk band from Illinois, home of Screeching Weasel, Naked Raygun, Alkaline Trio, the Music/SmokingPopes, and [[TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers Cheap]] [[Music/CheapTrick Trick]]. Whether or not they've belonged to the "Music/{{emo}}" genre depends on your definition of "{{emo}}" and that's quite a controversial label to go around slapping upon things these days, so we'll leave it up to you.[[note]]They might not define themselves as such by any definition of the word and the influence they took from early emo acts like Braid are all but gone from "Folie A Deux" onward, but since when has that ever stopped anybody from trying?[[/note]]

The band consists of Patrick Stump (vocals, rhythm guitar), Joe Trohman (lead guitar), Pete Wentz (bassist, lyricist), and Andy Hurley (drums).

The band is well known for songs such as "Dance, Dance," "Sugar, We're Going Down," "This Ain't a Scene, it's an Arms Race," "I Don't Care", "Thnks fr th Mmrs", "America's Suitehearts", and "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light 'Em Up)". They have currently released seven albums and have had better than a dozen singles total.

They have numerous music videos, including one where they pretended to be vampire hunters that went on for about seven minutes (A Little Less Film/SixteenCandles, A Little More "Touch Me"), one with Turk from ''Series/{{Scrubs}}'' along with ridiculous amount of Michael Jackson references (for their cover of "Beat It"), and eleven videos for one album mashed together into one movie with Elton John as God and Tommy Lee as the Devil (The Young Blood Chronicles). Other notable deeds the band has committed include one of them impregnating Ashlee Simpson ''and'' a model, wearing remarkably tight trousers, almost getting a Guinness World Record for playing a live concert on all seven continents in a certain amount of time, getting a Guinness World Record for doing the most press interviews within a 24 hour time span, being loved by [[Music/{{Blink 182}} Mark]] [[TropeCodifier Hoppus]], getting on ''Series/TopOfThePops'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RdF9_uFFNw with a song]] with a past history of homosexual subtext, and having some really strange lyrics. They also have a comic called ''ComicBook/FallOutToyWorks'', a {{Cyberpunk}} love story with [[GainaxEnding one big mind screw of an ending]]. As is to be expected from them.

They have nothing to do with the mascot of the ''VideoGame/{{Fallout}}'' game series, Vault Boy, and are named after [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons Radioactive Man's faithful sidekick]]. They're often grouped together with Music/PanicAtTheDisco, Music/TheAcademyIs, Music/GymClassHeroes, and Music/CobraStarship, due to being TrueCompanions, collaborating with each other on stuff (music or otherwise) often, and being signed to Creator/FueledByRamen (and to Pete's own vanity label, Decaydance Records, now known as [=DCD2=]). If Manga/OnePiece, Manga/{{Naruto}}, and Manga/{{Bleach}} were the "Big Three" [[ShonenDemographic Shonen Manga]] in the mid-2000s and early 2010s, then their rock music equivalents would be Fall Out Boy, Music/PanicAtTheDisco, and Music/MyChemicalRomance.[[note]]In some circles, these three bands were referred to as "the Holy {{Emo}} Trinity", but use of the terminology is more common among younger bandom fans on Tumblr, Twitter, and the like. While the three bands were crucially important back when fandom hadn't fully jumped ship to social media, there was no specific term for all three of them[[/note]]

The band was on hiatus, ([[InsistentTerminology not a breakup]], no matter what your friend tells you they've read on the internet that isn't directly from the band). During the hiatus, Patrick started a solo musical effort, Pete started a dancehall band turned EDM act called the Black Cards, and Joe and Andy wrapped up work with rock supergroup The Damned Things (also featuring members of Music/{{Anthrax}} and Every Time I Die). Andy was also the drummer for Enabler for several years, and Joe started a new band called With Knives (where he [[HiddenDepths does lead vocals]]). Joe and Andy would later return to The Damned Things in 2019 to make a new record and do touring, while Andy helped form Sect in 2015 and would later take part in Racetraitor's own reunion in 2016, and is still active with both acts.

As of February 4, 2013, Fall Out Boy stated the end of their hiatus as they finished their recording of their newest album, ''Save Rock and Roll'', which came out April 16th, bumped up from its initial May release. They then allowed fans to hear the whole album a week early on their [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPa0TZwXH4pJQG1MjDHGX49lhY5jN1LWi YouTube]] and [[https://soundcloud.com/falloutboy/sets/save-rock-and-roll Soundcloud]]. They've released a series of often bizarre and disturbing music videos for each song on the record called ''The Youngblood Chronicles'' and released an old-school punk/hardcore EP, ''PAX AM DAYS'', produced by Ryan Adams. In the summer of 2014, they hit the road as co-headliners with Music/{{Paramore}} for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVWowXll98A Monumentour]], considered one of the most highly anticipated rock tours of that year.

In late 2014, they announced their sixth studio album, ''American Beauty/American Psycho'', which was released on January 20, 2015. After a cryptic trailer release stunt in Chicago area movie theaters that went horribly wrong when they didn't air at the time the band advertised, fans eventually discovered what was next for Fall Out Boy: their next album ''M A N I A'' with the first single ''Young and Menace'' bumped up to release on Patrick Stump's birthday (how nice of them!). Originally planned to release on September 15, 2017, the album was instead delayed to January 19, 2018, announced by Patrick on August 3, 2017. And not a moment too soon, as the band felt the album was being "rushed" and wanted to make something they felt more comfortable with releasing. The album released on the new date with no issues, with Fall Out Boy confirming the album's completion and the tracklist on November 6, 2017. Fall Out Boy also released "Llamania" in February 2018, featuring three MANIA demos, as a thank you to fans for their patience during the delay.

Keeping the gratitude train going, Fall Out Boy released the Lake Effect Kid EP on August 23, 2018. The album serves as a partial throwback, featuring a studio version of B-side "Lake Effect Kid", a love letter to Chicago called "City in a Garden", and a return to working with Sean O'Keefe, who was last credit as a producer on FOB material for the 2004 My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue. The EP also featured "Super Fade", a song evocative of "Young and Menace". They finally released the mysterious MANIA Experience, a interactive art exhibit based on the album to fans in Chicago to coincide with their biggest headlining show to date at Wrigley Field.

During the hiatus, Patrick this time, Stump started a solo musical effort, Pete Wentz started a dancehall band turned EDM band-turned-EDM act called the Black Cards, and Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley wrapped up work with rock supergroup The Damned Things (also featuring members of Music/{{Anthrax}} and Every Time I Die).

As of February 4, In 2013, Fall Out Boy stated the band confirmed the end of their hiatus as they finished their recording of their newest fifth album, ''Save Rock and Roll'', which came out April 16th, bumped up from its initial May release. They then allowed fans to hear the whole album a week early on Roll''; their [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPa0TZwXH4pJQG1MjDHGX49lhY5jN1LWi YouTube]] and [[https://soundcloud.com/falloutboy/sets/save-rock-and-roll Soundcloud]].

In late 2014, they announced their sixth studio album,
sixth, ''American Beauty/American Psycho'', which was released on January 20, in 2015. After a cryptic trailer release stunt in Chicago area Chicago-area movie theaters that went horribly wrong when they didn't air at the time the band advertised, fans eventually discovered what was next for Fall Out Boy: their next next: the band's seventh album ''M A N I A'' with the first single ''Young and Menace'' bumped up to release on Patrick Stump's birthday (how nice of them!). A''. Originally planned to release on September 15, in late 2017, the album was instead delayed to January 19, early 2018, announced by Patrick on August 3, 2017. And not a moment too soon, as the band felt the album it was being "rushed" and wanted to make something they felt more comfortable with releasing. The album released on releasing.

Other notable deeds
the new date with no issues, with Fall Out Boy confirming band has committed include almost getting a Guinness World Record for playing a live concert on all seven continents in a certain amount of time and actually getting a Guinness World Record for doing the album's completion and the tracklist on November 6, 2017. Fall Out Boy most press interviews within a 24-hour time span. They also released "Llamania" in February 2018, featuring three MANIA demos, as have a thank you to fans for their patience during the delay.

Keeping the gratitude train going, Fall Out Boy released the Lake Effect Kid EP on August 23, 2018. The album serves as a partial throwback, featuring a studio version of B-side "Lake Effect Kid", a love letter to Chicago
comic called "City in ''ComicBook/FallOutToyWorks'', a Garden", and a return to working {{Cyberpunk}} love story with Sean O'Keefe, who was last credit [[GainaxEnding one big mind screw of an ending]] -- as a producer on FOB material for the 2004 My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side is to My Tongue. The EP also featured "Super Fade", a song evocative of "Young and Menace". They finally released the mysterious MANIA Experience, a interactive art exhibit based on the album to fans in Chicago to coincide with their biggest headlining show to date at Wrigley Field.

* DeathByMusicVideo: Happens in "Carpal Tunnel of Love". The band, in ''WebAnimation/HappyTreeFriends'' character forms, enters the diner Cuddles and Giggles are in. When Lumpy, panicking, gets into Handy's tow truck and drives away, he ends up somehow getting the cable stuck into the diner's ceiling fan. This leads to a wall being ripped out of the diner, right into Fall Out Boy, killing the lot of them. They're last seen as a quartet of severed heads rolling along the street with the diner wall right behind them.

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: All of them can be pretty out there sometimes, Andy in particular.
* FauxYay: Pete Wentz and his labelmates, such as simulating oral sex on Brendon Urie, kissing Patrick on the neck during live shows, and being just affectionate towards guys. Possibly not so faux after all, as he claims to be bisexual but "[[ButNotTooBi isn't a fan of penises]]".

Starting around the last tour they did before hiatus, due to health concerns, he dropped upwards of ''seventy pounds''. His solo effort, ''Soul Punk'', had him looking alarmingly slender, but after the hiatus he looks to have evened out quite nicely.
** FormerlyFit: As of 2019, he seems to be back to the weight he was pre-hiatus. While he previously struggled with body image issues, those don't appear to have come back.

* HeterosexualLifePartners: Pete and Patrick.

Pete probably gives the less cares about shipping than the actual band, what with him deliberately being a ShipTease but... just ask the band questions about things that don't involve shipping and fanfic in general. * ThoseTwoGuys: Joe and Andy. Slightly less so after the hiatus, though Pete and Patrick still gain most of the attention.
* TrueCompanions: The whole band is this to some extent, but it wasn't until after the hiatus that this became much more evident. The hiatus was partially due to not wanting their friendship to burn out to years of constant touring and making sure that Pete got to spend actual quality time with his son while he was still an infant. They still kept in touch during the hiatus and Andy and Joe even worked together in The Damned Things.
