On a rewatch of the first season and Rei was NOT subtle.

* ''Anime/SailorMoon'': Rei is a subtle example in the first season of the 90s anime, towards [[LoserProtagonist Usagi]] and [[ShrinkingViolet Ami]]. Rei constantly goaded Ami into snubbing Usagi along with her. And in an episode where Ami shyly suggests that Usagi might be suited for the role of leader, Rei pinches her leg, forcing Ami to reconsider. She mellows out throughout subsequent seasons, becoming more respectful of the two.
