Also, plenty of hated parents are still in their child's life, whereas they are not in this trope. It's also a common outcome of a ''severely'' BrokenPedestal. Contrast YoureNotMyFather, which, despite the title, is a stock phrase aimed at someone who is ''not'' a father but is acting like they are. Also contrast IAmNotMyFather and KidsPunishingParents, which might be one reason why a character might cut their parent out, but is not the only one.
