* The best ''Hetalia'' author I've ever encountered. Her characterization is amazing; shows all sorts of sides to characters while keeping them IC, and has an amazing writing style. Her fics can focus just as much on the characters as they can focus on the Historical side; she can potray Historical events though characters almost the same way ''Hetalia'' itself does. Her fics are all around perfect.

** {{Tropers/FishCalledWaldo}}: She has also written ''Doctor Who'' and ''Harry Potter'' fanfics.

** Be warned, though, that she doesn't actually like England/America and her stories involving them often have hints [[RevengeFic (or more)]] of DieForOurShip for [[RonTheDeathEater England.]]
** That being said, she treats England's characterization very well in her works. Some of the [=UsUk=] moments she's included have been amoung the best this troper has read.

** YMMV on this - I would only rec their (especially Mithrilgil's) works to people who like DarkFic and the so-called [[DarkerAndEdgier "historical"]] approach that often eschews canon characterization. The stories are well-researched and technically well-written but these characters are not the same ones you can find in the Hetalia manga and anime.
** In their defense though, not all of their fics are DarkFic with YMMV!Debatable OOC-ness!characterization. A few of their more humorous works stick closer to canon characterizations of the countries like puella nerdii's [[http://puella-nerdii.livejournal.com/126908.html#cutid1 We Do Not Speak of Berlusconi at the Table]] or their joint work [[http://puella-nerdii.livejournal.com/70523.html Anthem]] or the totally hilarious [[http://mithrigil.livejournal.com/437204.html The International Awesome Pirate Weekend]]. So they do have the ability to write the characters with their Hetalia!canon!voices, they just don't necessarily do that for their more history-centric fics.

** {{Tropers/FishCalledWaldo}}: Haro also writes ''Series/DoctorWho'', ''Literature/HarryPotter'', ''InuYasha'', ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Gundam Seed]]''/''[[MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Destiny]]'', and a few other fandoms while Abarero writes ''Manga/OnePiece'', ''MacrossFrontier'', ''[=InuYasha=]'', ''Gundam Seed /Destiny'', ''DetectiveConan'', ''FullmetalAlchemist'', ''PrincessTutu'', ''GundamWing'' and a few others.

** {{Tropers/LittleSerge}}: I absolutely loved several of this author's fics, especially the ones centering around 1812 and the First World War, showing that underneath Canada's soft-spoken exterior is a person and nation who is really far more complex. The characters are generally well-written and in character (even if Canada seems a little angrier than usual - perfectly acceptable considering the time periods).

** dr_schreaber: ''[[http://sakuratsukikage.livejournal.com/36663.html Per Amore]]'' really is the best Germany/Italy fic out there.
** She ''is'' one of the best writers for America/England, especially when it comes to characterization. She's able to balance the darker tones of real history and Hetalia canon, building and expanding the characters without sacrificing their personalities in the process, avoiding the clichés of DarkerAndEdgier. I can't recommend her stories enough.
*** A very good example of such magnificent blending is showcased here: [[http://sakuratsukikage.livejournal.com/63855.html#cutid2 Blue Birds Over]]

** Also expect England getting a good dose of RonTheDeathEater and America being woobiefied out of his SuperStrength...

** This troper highly, highly recommends everything DYK anon has written (and s/he apparently has an LJ now?!) but "Abschiedslied" and "The Island" are definitely his/her best works. Both are very dark, but beautifully written, and really use Hetalia characterization in combination with actual history to great effect.

** OH MY GOD READ EVERYTHING HE'S EVER WRITTEN. GO DO IT NOW.

* This author is amazing on so many levels. His/her fanfics can range from drop-dead hilarious to deep and heart-wrenching in a half a second—but not in a bad way. S/he has a series going on, which so far has three fanfics in it—two of the three already recommended down below, and the third has just one chapter out as of this recommendation being written. My point is that s/he is an amazing author, and those who do not check out his/her fics will be missing out on something wonderful.

* She's an amazing author. Her fics tend to focus on America and his younger days (including several ADORABLE fics of his colonial days and two also excellent fics set around the time of the Revolutionary war), although she's been writing on more diverse subjects recently. Her grammar and spelling are generally excellent, but what really makes her praiseworthy is her understanding and ability to communicate what's going on in the country's heads and hearts. You can always understand (and usually sympathize with the reasons behind) why the characters act the way they do-and it's pretty much always in character-even when you want to grab them and scream 'NONONONO, don't do that!'. She also clearly does her research, and inserts little historical snippets unobtrusively and realistically (the ending of [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6393960/1/A_New_Guardian_and_Other_Stories A New Guardian and Other Stories]] [see the general fanfic recommendations page] is an excellent example of this; also worth noting is that she started writing the fic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6353177/1/Prussian_Training Prussian Training]] ''before'' the 2011 Bloodbath). All in all, her fics are amazing.

* Pairings: Doesn't really write romance, as far as I'm aware.
