''[[https://www.wattpad.com/story/246889116-the-green-eyed%27s-tale-a-changed-story The Green-Eyed's Tale]]'' is a Videogame/Changed fanfic by Chrispy, published on Website/Wattpad, which tries to put aside the transformation fetish aspect of the original game to provide a solid story. The story began in November 09, 2020 and was finished in December 07, 2020.
The story takes the focus on an amnesiac boy called Haru and his struggles to get to the bottom of the situation, or better said, facility he's currently in. The story is told in a journal format, each page being catalogued as an "Entry" of varying lengths, occasionally with drawings attached made by the protagonist, a group of 10 entries being called an "Arc"
The more the story progresses, Haru obtains new allies, abilities and objects to defend himself, all with the purpose of obtaining answers to his [[DrivingQuestion driving questions]], and the more Main/RolePlayingGame characteristics it gains.
----
!! ''The Green Eyed's Tale'' contains examples of:
* EleventhHourSuperpower: Two words: [[spoiler:Kyuin]] and [[spoiler:Kismet]].
* AccidentalMisnaming: Haru accidentally calls Yuin as "Vacky" (his vacuum companion at the beginning of the story) in one conversation of Arc 3.
* ArchEnemy: The Wolf King to Haru. [[spoiler:The White Knight to Kenny, FridgeBrilliance that one is a (black) king and the other is a (white) knight.]]
* ArcNumber: Three. 3 Latex Beast groups, 3 protagonists, 3 [[spoiler:Doctors]], 3 [[spoiler:human friends]], 3 [[spoiler:Humans that came from the warehouse, making Haru the Third One]]... All of these are coincidental, but a frightening amount of plot elements come in three nonetheless.
* ArcWords: Much to the original game, changed. The story's focus is seeing how Haru [[CharacterDevelopment develops]] from a scared and powerless fellow to a [[TookALevelInBadass guy who runs around and kills beasts with a hammer]], not to mention how he manages to change several creatures' mind, mostly in the sense of making them not want to kill him.
** In a sense, "Stuck in this infested facility.", the words Haru uses to begin some of his entries.
* AuthorAppeal: Yuin.
* BigDamnHeroes: Kenny becomes one in Arc 7.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Entry ¿ can qualify as one.
** Special mention to the "stubby foxes" in the ventilation shaft. There's not much that can be said about them, ''that's just how random it is.''
* BuffySpeak: Haru (and thereby the author) has a field day with the Intravenous Poles, calling them ''"metal [[PrecisionFStrike fucking]] stands with wheels"'' every single time possible.
* ChekhovsGun: To name a few:
** The upgrades Haru obtains in the story are useless in most scenarios [[ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman except for two]]: The Latex Gloves he gains in Arc 1 [[spoiler: Allow him to snap out of the Wolf King's bonds/mind control by retracting the ones restraining the arms back to his body]], and the Receiver Ears he gains after revisiting the Elder One [[spoiler: Allow him to communicate with some Yufengs to help him escape after being trapped in a cramped room on Arc 3. Unluckily for him,]] [[spoiler: [[FaceHeelTurn the Yufengs are helping somebody else.]]]]
** The hammer thrown to a door in rage by [[spoiler: The First One]] in his first encounter with Haru is ignored for the rest of the battle. Haru comes back to pick it up and use it as a weapon later on.
** The syringe and sketch of the Snow Leopard in the vent shaft. [[spoiler: Turns out the beast inside of the syringe is Mizuko's [[UsefulNotes/FurryFandom fursona]] and the drawing to be a piece of the Snow Leopard's concept art that was left behind, also made by Mizuko.]]
** Colin and Puro, protagonists of the original game, are [[PutOnABus missing for most of the story because "Colin fell sick and Puro is taking care of him."]] [[spoiler:When they appear on the story, they've been fallen under control by the HISEV: The unnamed virus from the original game that Colin was a possible carrier of.]]
* CoolShades: [[spoiler:The First One]] sports these in his second encounter with Haru and continues to wear them for the rest of the story.
* CriticalResearchFailure: Haru tells Yuin that [[spoiler:her Roomba disguise was a vacuum cleaner when Roombas are supposed be ''sweeping robots'', Yuin facepalmed herself for this.]]
** PlayedForDrama in the final fight: [[spoiler:The [[GreaterScopeVillain Clusterhive]] immunizes himself to Haru's blood thanks to a sample from Colin, ''except that he doesn't'', he only became immune to Haru's Main/SuperGenderBender counterpart Maron's blood, allowing Haru to use his blood to win the final battle with ease.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: Zigzagged. The Yufengs and the Elder One (Dark Latex Beasts) are friendly to Haru for most of the story, but the Dark Latex Wolves aren't. [[spoiler: Not even Puro. Speaking of which, the Clusterhive and its minions are described as made of a transparent sheer-black liquid, the only different color in their body being a pink/white glowing core.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Haru loves to make sarcastic remarks, specially when it comes to how weird of a situation he's currently in.
--> "Wow. Transfurmative. You're using a coined lame pun name seriously."
* ADogNamedDog: The Tiger Shark, the Snow Leopard and the Squid Dog to name a few.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:The person working as the Tiger Shark's host ran into his body so she could be assimilated because of believing that "Her life will be better as part of him.", whatever caused it is unknown, as the Tiger Shark says ''she doesn't want him to be talking about it'']].
* EasilyForgiven: Haru forgives almost every creature that apologizes for attacking him without thinking it twice. [[spoiler: This gets to absurd levels with the final boss, who tried to boil the whole facility and everything inside of it and corrupted every single one of the latex beasts, not to mention that they tried to ''blackmail Haru by threatening to kill Yuin if he didn't bring him the bag containing his blood.'' Both Yuin and Kenny [[WhatTheHellHero calling him out for it.]]]]
* {{Main/Expy}}
** [[spoiler:The First One]] is ''quite'' similar to a spoiler character from the videogame Videogame/GhostTrick, [[WholeCostumeReference wearing the same shades as they do]] and (Ghost Trick spoilers) [[spoiler:having very similar motives for going berserk, as both have the love of their life taken away from them and become inhuman creatures]]. WordOfGod says that he gave him the spoiler character's shades to reference the similar backstories.
** [[spoiler:Haru's father]] looks quite similar to Dexter from WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory.
** Haru shares names with [[TheNamesTheSame Haru]] from Anime/TheCatReturns, a girl who gets caught in a FisherKingdom of cats and the longer she stays on that world, the more she becomes a cat.
* ICallItVera: Haru calls his hammer as Da Hammer (and in his inventory screen as DA HAMMER)
* FirstLawOfGenderBending: Averted. [[spoiler:In the two times Haru became Maron, the world complotted against to transform him back to human.]]
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Weren't it for the RuleOfThree...
** Haru and his furry friends: Haru is Melancholic, Yuin is Phlegmatic and Kenny is Chloleric.
** [[spoiler:Haru and his human friends play it straight: Kennedy is Sanguine, Carlos is Chloleric, Millie is Phlegmatic and Haru is once again Melancholic (although CharacterDevelopment would position him as Sanguine or Phlegmatic.]]
** [[spoiler:The Three Founding Doctors: Dr. K is Melancholic, Matthew Smith is Phlegmatic and Mizuko is Sanguine.]]
* GenderBlenderName: For an actual japanese, Haru is a girl's name. [[spoiler:It turns out that his real name is Harold, "Haru" being a nickname given by his japanese mother for easier spelling [[FridgeLogic (Which makes you wonder why she would give him such a nickname.)]]]]
* HiddenDepths: Some characters reveal theirs at some point, also doubles as part of their CharacterDevelopment.
** Haru, who begins the adventure as quite fearful, but under stress learns to be TheLeader.
** [[spoiler:The First One]], who is hyped up to be a ruthless murderer, begins as a Jerkass DeadpanSnarker, but all he wants is [[spoiler:to see his dead fiancé again, and when he begins to tag along with Haru and Yuin, begins to see a new light on the Latex Beasts he once hated with a passion and develops true care for his teammates.]]
** [[spoiler:Mizuko]] [[spoiler:is implied to be very... weird, to put it in a non-squicky way.]]
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Haru [[WinsByDoingAbsolutelyNothing (indirectly)]][[note]] He technically did something, that being defeating the Squid Dog holding the Tiger Shark captive before the Wolf King arrived.[[/note]] gets the Wolf King and Tiger Shark to fight and weaken each other before landing the final blow on the Wolf King and earning the Tiger Shark's trust as he cannot fight against him.
* {{Megane}}: [[spoiler:Haru's father.]]
* {{Meganekko}}: [[spoiler:Mizuko Kaminari. It doesn't help that she's japanese.]]
* MeaningfulAppearance: [[spoiler:Mizuko has the same kind of curly spiral on her hair as Maron. Turns out Maron is her fursona.]]
* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: When Haru falls unconscious in one of the arcs, Kenny writes entries in his journal.
--> Little heads up: [[WhamLine It ain't Haru who's writing this.]]
* OneSteveLimit: Averted with the characters of [[spoiler:The First One (Ken Jones)]] and [[spoiler:Kennedy Corwick]], as Haru calls them both by the nickname of [[spoiler:Kenny]].
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Whenever Haru gets angry such as when he ''[[NoHoldsBarrelBeatdown kills]]'' the Snow Leopard in the ventilation shaft and showing absolutely ''zero regrets'' for so anywhere in the story.
** When Kenny looks visibly glum and gives Haru a GetAHoldOfYourselfMan speech.
** [[TheStoic The Doctor]] after Haru constantly replies to every single one of his attempts to get him back on track after [[spoiler:getting depressed for becoming Maron]], he outright ''cusses'' at him:
--> The Doctor slammed his desk. "JUST DO SOMETHING, [[PrecisionFStrike SCUMBAG]]!"
* PrecisionFStrike: Even though the story (but mainly Kenny) ''[[ClusterFBomb loves]]'' to use the word fuck (and swearing overall), there are times where it suits the situation.
* PreviousPlayerCharacterCameo: Colin and Puro [[PutOnABus are nowhere to be seen for most of the story]] until the very end. [[spoiler:And they're the GreaterScopeVillain's pawns.]]
* RuleOfThree: See ArcNumber above.
* ShoutOut: There are plenty.
** Haru mentions Videogame/AmongUs and compares [[TheMole The Impostors]] (parasitistic shapeshifting aliens) to the parasitistic shapeshifting furries that antagonize him.
** The stubby foxes "Dancing to the song that plays for the entirety of the Videogame/Helltaker videogame".
** Several to WebVideo/BadCreepypasta:
*** The maintenance employees' names are Jacob, Matt and Toby, the three crewmembers of Bad Creepypasta, not only that, but the ''author stealth-advertises the channel in the Cast Roll chapter.''
*** Haru likes to say "Of course he does", a line oftenly said by Toby. Also worth mentioning that Haru is british just like the Bad Creepypasta crew.
*** [[spoiler:Gemma Steinn from the epilogue shares names with Gemma, the TokenFemale member of the Bad Creepypasta crew.]]
** [[spoiler: The First One]] to Videogame/GhostTrick, see {{Expy}} above.
** The character appearing in [[spoiler: Entry ¿]] is from another of Chrispy's series called ''Scarlet Rain.''
** Several to Manga/MyHeroAcademia. WordOfGod even mentions in a comment that Haru's hair comes from a scrapped MHA FanCharacter.
** Haru is depicted with a glowing blue eye in the Da Hammer item slot, much like certain [[MemeticMutation memetic]] [[Videogame/Undertale]] character...
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: First, Haru fights against the [[DarkIsNotEvil Dark Latex Beasts]], then the Light Latex Beasts, then the Colored Latex Beasts and finally [[spoiler:[[GreaterScopeVillain a virus that has taken control of the whole facility's samples]]]].
* SpotOfTea: Zigzagged, [[spoiler: Haru and his father]] alternate between drinking tea and coffee.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: [[spoiler:The First One hates the Latex Beasts, as he puts it: "THEY'RE ALL PARASITES! THEY LEECH ONTO YOU, THEY FEED THEMSELVES WITH YOUR ESSENCE, THEN THEY DISPOSE OF YOU WHEN THEY GET THE CHANCE!", ''and the story doesn't prove him wrong.'']]
** [[spoiler:The yufengs betrayed Haru only to get the Snow Leopard's love.]]
** [[spoiler:The White Knight absorbed his owner, The First One's fiancé, initiating his FantasticRacism and The Riot.]]
** [[spoiler:The pictures in the warehouse tell the tale of the writers friend, who fell to the same fate as The First One's fiancé with a Colored Latex Beast.]]
** [[spoiler:And to make matters worse, '''Yuin''' of all people try to do this to Haru to try stop him from leaving the facility!]]
* SuddenGameplayChange: It began with Haru getting a 10-slot inventory then escalated into ''RPG fights'' near the end of the story.
* SuperGenderBender: [[spoiler: A few entries after Haru stabs himself with a strange syringe in Arc 3 and being told that [[TemptingFate he had nothing to worry about as the syringe wasn't pulled]], he gets transformed into a female latex beast cat dubbed as Maron, which grants him the basic abilities of latex beasts.]]
* ThatCameOutWrong: Some sentences are called out for sounding dirty by some of the characters:
--> '''Kenny:''' "...I suppose I'm the only who smells this because I'm a fox, but he's choking on adrenaline right now! He's not getting banged, he's banging someone else!"
--> '''Yuin:''' "That sounds... dirty."
* TookALevelInBadass: Haru after he gets the hammer.
** Special mention to [[spoiler:Puro and Colin. although Puro ''did'' defeat K in combat and Colin managed to fight back against latex beasts in the original game, HISEV!Colin cannot be compared.
* YouKeepUsingThatWord: The author called IV (Intravenous) Tubes as UV '''''(Ultraviolet)''''' tubes. This was later fixed.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Nobody knows of the [[spoiler:Clusterhive]]'s whereabouts past the final entry.

* EleventhHourSuperpower: Two words: [[spoiler:Kyuin]] and [[spoiler:Kismet]].
* AuthorAppeal: Yuin.
* {{Main/Expy}}
* {{Megane}}: [[spoiler:Haru's father.]]
* {{Meganekko}}: [[spoiler:Mizuko Kaminari. It doesn't help that she's japanese.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
* RuleOfThree: See ArcNumber above.
* ShoutOut: There are plenty.
--> '''Yuin:''' "That sounds... dirty."
