* AnachronicOrder: The present day scenes and flashbacks featuring the Backwater Shadowchasers are set during different time periods and are not told in any specific order. If the details given are any indication, the chronological order of the flashbacks seem to be: Tsukihime -> Kenshin, with Maria's and Rave's flashbacks possibly taking place close to each other, and Tsubasa's, Guren's Fayte's and Rayearth's taking place afterwards in unknown order.

In the town of Backwater, Nebraska, every person is either an Aware or a Shadowkind. Given this unique status, it is home to a permanent team of Shadowchasers. Not only does the team's unusual size make it stand out from the organization,(Eight Shadowchasers in Backwater for a town of 25,000 compared to the usual team of Four-to-Five for cities of millions like Las Vegas or New York City), most of the members are Shadowkind themselves and a rather eclectic group of Shadowkind at that. The members ranger from an eccentric half-breed human to a vampire to a reformed succubus and even a living spirit of a gaming console.
