* ButtMonkey: If the tone gets lighthearted, most of the humors would be about some kind of misfortune befalling on Umi, and her short temper flaring up as a result. Mokona is often an offender of this.
* BystanderSyndrome: She really doesn't see why she should be dragged into Cephiro's problems. In the anime she sticks by this for quite a while, and her sword's first evolution happens once she buries this attitude for good.

Lafarga is the Captain of Emeraude's personal guard, [[spoiler:a position he took up after Lantis left Cephiro]]. He is Cephiro's most skilled swordsman. Even though he doesn't use any magic, he's still a deadly foe when Zagato hypnotizes him and sends him to stop the Magic Knights from acquiring the final Mashin.

Lantis appears in the second half of the story, when the Magic Knights return to Cephiro. He is Cephiro's only Cail (a swordsman who excels at magic) and the former captain of Princess Emeraude's personal guard. He left the country before the events of the first half, and is under a cloud of suspicion for being Zagato's younger brother and living in Autozam before his return. During his time there, he grew very close to Eagle Vision, the President's son. He returned to Cephiro [[spoiler:almost immediately after the death of Zagato and Emeraude]] and doesn't say much about why.

* FairyCompanion: To Lantis.

The legendary beings that will don with the Magic Knights to help them fulfill their duty and save Cephiro [[spoiler:by killing the Pillar]]. Earning their trust will require a test of their willpower and mental fortitude. Their souls reside in a pocket dimension after deeming the Magic Knights worthy, and they can communicate with them via telepathy.

* AMechByAnyOtherName: "Rune God" or "Mashin" apparently translate into mecha for Cephirans.

* RapunzelHair: Her hair reaches down to her hips.

* RapunzelHair: It goes down past her hips.

* RapunzelHair: It's almost as long as she is tall.

As such, in order to be the same age and grade as Hikaru and Fuu, Umi would have to been born on March 3rd the following year.[[/labelnote]]

* TheGlassesComeOff: When inside her Mashin. Lampshaded when Umi asks her if she can see well and Fuu says that yes, she can. (Presumably, Windam is correcting its own display so she can see or somesuch.)

* ShesAManInJapan: Eagle Vision is depicted as female in the Latin American dub as a way to avoid HoYay with Lantis and Geo Metro. The result is a RomanticTwoGirlFriendship with Hikaru.

* AscendedExtra: She was merely a StarterVillain in the original manga who dies after her second battle against the Magic Knights. The anime largely expands her role, featuring her as a recurring antagonist, being also included in the second season. The games also gave her a bigger role in the story.
