* BadassNormal: The woman can hold her own against ''Anderson.'' Yes. She has fought, and survived, against the man whom Alucard feels is his equal. She'll fight superpowered Nazi vampires with nothing but her sword.

* AffablyEvil: To Integra and Seras [[spoiler:after his betrayal. He's relieved that Integra is willing to send Alucard after him so he can finally fulfill his lifelong obsession and exchanges words of encouragement with Seras before his last fight.]]

* AllForNothing: His laughter at Alucard's demise can only turn to bitter tears as he realizes that he had sacrificed his entire life for nothing whatsoever; he failed to kill Alucard, let alone best him, and the Major never even expected him to succeed.
* AlwaysSecondBest: To Alucard. During their [[spoiler: final confrontation, Alucard even rubs it in Walter's face by stating that if Anderson couldn't defeat him, then a "brat" like Walter never could. Of course, this blatantly implies that Walter wasn't even second best, but ''third'' best behind Anderson, who Alucard views as his true rival and WorthyOpponent.]]
* AntagonistInMourning: [[spoiler: Although he first exalts in Alucard's demise, he then breaks down crying, realizing none of it was worth it]]

* ChildSoldier: Walter was barely 14 years old when he fought against Millennium in WWII, cutting bloody swathes through Nazis and ghouls right alongside Hellsing's [[TheJuggernaut Juggernaut]], Alucard. And it's implied that he had been fighting vampires long beforehand. However, deconstructed in that he is psychologically vulnerable and physically outmatched by more experienced and powerful beings. The Captain easily overpowers him through sheer experience and physical might, and the Major sways him over to his side with promises of power and approval.

* EvilAllAlong: It's eventually revealed that Walter's been planning to betray the Hellsing organization ever since World War II.

* RunsInTheFamily: Pip's career path as a mercernary goes back for several generations and it appears most males come to the same conclusion Pip did, just like Pip's grandfather predicted.

* UnscrupulousHero: At the beginning, as a mercenary who enjoys killing for it. Sheds this at the end.

* CombatPragmatist: Pip's one for sure. He knows for a fact that his men don't stand a chance fighting close range, so he ultimately relies on Seras' MoreDakka, landmines, claymores and general trickery to win battles. He wipes out 80% of Zorin's forces during her strike. Shown earlier when he simply disguises himself as an enemy soldier and secure an extraction by going StraightToTheCommander and using the chaos to steal a helicopter.

* KnightInSourArmor: He says right out that he hates London, and he won't mourn it when it's gone - but he loves the ''people'' of London, and he won't let Millenium get away with massacring them.

* OfficerAndAGentleman: He's a bit crude, but he's a nice guy and a very competent leader.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: He says that being a mercenary, he says that money -- even just a few cents -- is his only real reason for fighting (until he meets Seras, that is) because fighting just because it's ''fun'' would be vile and no one would let him do it. Just like [[BadassFamily all the men in his family going back to his "grandfather's grandfather's grandfather"]].

* TheSmartGuy: His plan to counter the attack on Hellsing HQ demonstrates a three-layered perimeter defence that successfully holds off the enemy forces. Seeing as said enemy forces are Nazi vampires who would slaughter them all if they managed to come within close range, it demonstrates his experience and cunning with tactics. This is just ''one'' instance.

But with him being a lifelong Merc and her being an undead blood-sucker... well, things really wouldn't work for them. [[spoiler: Though they eventually become a "couple", of sorts, after Pip becomes her familiar.]]

* OfficialCouple: With Seras [[spoiler:after he becomes her familiar.]]

* BloodyMurder: Alucard practically puts his blood through gymnastics using it as a weapon

* CrazyConsumption: Out of all the vampires' in this series, Alucard ''really'' takes the cake with this one. So long as Integra orders him to kill, he'll do whatever he damn well pleases to his victims. Including tearing off their heads and letting the blood pour into his mouth. And using demon dogs to ''eat them alive''. Honestly, this guy acts more like a ''[[ImAHumanitarian cannibal]]'' than a vampire.

* TakingTheBullet: Most likely how his HealingFactor seems to work. His body taps into the collected souls of everyone who's blood he drank, transferring any wounds he's taken to them. [[spoiler: When Control Art Restriction System Level Zero is released, they all pour out of him into a massive army for him to command, but it also leaves him without his regenerative abilities.]]

** Not helped by his rage at the idea that [[ThePaladin Anderson]] would become a Monster with Helena's Nail to finally have enough power to kill him. Anderson only did this because Alucard had a clear, completely unfair advantage and was hiding behind a literal wall of his familiars. Given that Alucard has reacted with glee to the idea of fighting an equal before, it seems less like a respect for the human spirit and more like he was angry that someone more powerful than him had come into existence.

* {{Hypocrite}}: A bit when one examines his hatred of BetterToDieThanBeKilled. Alucard is of the opinion that those who kill themselves rather than die facing him are lower than dogs, yet considering the fact that most who fight and die against him [[AndIMustScream are absorbed and made a part of his body to serve only as fuel for his regeneration eternally suffering all the while]], dying by their own hand is actually the better option. Especially bad when one considers that [[spoiler:the reason he became a vampire was because he was afraid of death and chose to become a monster rather than be executed, when he could have killed himself to deny his captors the satisfaction. In effect, he chose an even more cowardly option than they do]].

** Most of all, the reason he views humanity is this was none other due to [[spoiler: Dr. Abraham Van Helsing. This man, lacking even Anderson's enhancements, beat Alucard ''at his mightiest'' with nothing more than occult knowledge and the battle was so one-sided, it not only put a permenant respect of humanity into him, but also some hidden fears of him.]] Additionally, when Alucard was having his final battle with Anderson, he reflects on how Anderson reminds him so much of [[spoiler: "those other men." This means that Alucard holds great respect not only for Dr. Van Hellsing, but to the party who accompanied him into the battle: Jonathon Harker, Lord Godalming, Quincey Morris (who died fighting him) and Dr. Seward (though he's oddly absent from the silhoutte groupshot.) It says plenty that these men were held in the same level as the good doctor and Anderson.]]

* SubmissiveBadass: To Integra.

* {{Bishonen}}: Kid Walter. He looks a bit like [[Manga/DeathNote L]], too.

* FreudianExcuse: He was sick and tired of [[AlwaysSecondBest always being second best]] to Alucard (who [[OvershadowedByAwesome overshadowed him]] without effort), and of having to [[TrashOfTheTitans clean up]] after his apathetic, womanizing boss. It's possible that he also had major issues from being a ChildSoldier during WWII, and was fed up with Arthur and Alucard being [[{{Jerkass}} unappreciative jerks]], as seen in ''The Dawn''. [[spoiler:No wonder he turned on them for the first person to show appreciation for his talents that came along.]]

* RealityEnsues: Possibly. Turns out sending a fourteen year old ChildSoldier out on a suicide mission with a HumanoidAbomination to save the world could very well have ended up having some very negative psychological effects on Walter.

* BadassGrandpa: He was in his old age when he defeated Alucard.
* BadassNormal: Helsing was a normal human who defeated Dracula at his best in an implied CurbStompBattle, and the reason Alucard thinks HumansAreSpecial.

* CurbStompBattle: It's unclear how, or how accurate it is, but in Alucard's dream he doesn't even looked winded. It's implied he had help (given he destroyed Alucard's castle) but that he was still the one to ram a stake into Alucard's heart is a miracle.
* FaceFramedInShadow: A rare heroic example, when he looms over Alucard just as he's about to drive the stake into the vampire's chest.

* NiceHat: It's van Helsing, of course he'd have one. [[spoiler:It would later become Alucard's.]]
* NoodleIncident: It's never explained or implied (despite the flashback) how Abraham [[spoiler:alongside Johnathon Harker, Lord Godalming, and Quincy Morris (although Dr. Seward is missing, for some reason)]] managed to defeat [[spoiler:and enslave]] Dracula. All that is stated is that Dracula went all out, Quincy died, Mina escaped, and Abraham managed to strike such fear and respect into the old Count that this single human haunted his nightmares for hundreds of years and made him weep blood. No matter how you cut it, this man is badass. Regardless of whether or not it was a team effort, it's clear that Helsing was the key figure.

* WorldsStrongestMan: He beat Alucard ''at his very best'' in a CurbStompBattle.

* BetterToDieThanBeKilled: Averted. Alucard is very much ''not'' of this opinion. No matter how much he respects his opponent, if he's going to die, he's going to die fighting with everything he's got. When an anonymous mook shot himself rather than fight, having seen every other mook in the room torn to pieces in front of his eyes, Alucard's visibly infuriated.

* HiddenDepths: Beyond the BunnyEarsLawyer, he was the one who ended up realizing a powerful truth about Alucard, something he told to Integra (and Walter who was also there.) He described to Integra his own views on immortal monsters like Alucard, giving the speech as shown on the main page. Given how many people view Alucard, both working with him and against him, it says alot how he was able to look past the layers of violence, especially since Integra also believes in it and given Alucard's behavior and thoughts (and extending to other immortals like the Captain of Millennium), Arthur appears to be right in viewing the immortal monsters as deep down being "frail, sobbing children."

* AdaptationNameChange: Eeeh, ''murky ground!'' His surname is recognized and written as Helsing, with only a single ''l'' - much like from the source material novel. However, the organization bearing his name, Hellsing, is written with ''two'' l's. This is actually a case of Kohta Hirano [[ShownTheirWork doing his research]]. A good deal of businesses and organizations established during the Victorian era and before underwent minor name changes throughout the Industrial Revolution, due to the advent of new printing technology making record-keeping significantly more streamlined. Though, most of said changes were the results of irreversible errors and mistakes, some ''were'' altered for registration purposes.

* BadassNormal: Helsing was a normal human who defeated Dracula at his best, in an implied CurbStompBattle and is the reason Alucard thinks HumansAreSpecial.

* CurbStompBattle: Not clear how but from Alucard's dream he didn't even looked winded when he was beating him to a pulp. It's implied he had help of maybe more than his cres given he destroyed Alucard's castle but that he was still the only one standing in front of him ramming a stake in his heart is a miracle.

* BottomlessMagazines: He won't reload until all the surrounding enemies are dead. When Crispin Freeman makes note of this in the commentary, Taliesin Jaffe calls them "Schrödinger's Magazine", in that they're never empty until you look inside them.

* SheIsTheKing: In the OVA, she holds the male title "Sir" instead of "Lady". Her title can be translated as Lady or Dame in the manga, because it's gender-neutral. The only characters who are known to address her as Sir are Maxwell and Anderson. Taliesin Jaffe's theory is that she holds the title of Sir is because she's a Grand Higharch of the Templars/Freemasons, and by rule there can't be a female Grand Higharch, so she would have to be recognized as a male knight in order to receive the title.

* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Debatable in the manga how much or how long Seras likes Pip before [[spoiler: the attack on Hellsing HQ]], but the reader doesn't see them get along or learn of their feelings till after Pip reveals his HiddenHeartOfGold. It's heavily implied in the OVA though, particularly OVA 7 CreativeClosingCredits. A PhotoMontage reveals the two fought like cats and dogs until Pip made an effort to be polite with her in Rio de Janeiro. From then on, they got along much better and seemed to grow more respectful. Considering [[TheGadfly Pip]] usually started/escalated fights by [[BerserkButton pushing her buttons]], it's likely [[TheHeart Seras]] didn't come around until he TookALevelInKindness toward her. At the very least, his nobler qualities seem to be what attract her, not the "bad boy" mercenary persona.

* {{Foil}}: He is a very interesting and striking example of one to the Major. Pip finds fighting for fun vile, while the Major just loves everything about war. Both are able to inspire undying loyalty from the troops under their command, but while the Major used his men as tools for his plans, Pip genuinely cares about the Wild Geese, and does everything he can to get them out of a situation alive. Both can give very rousing speeches, but Pip's can often be short and sweet, while the Major will just drone on and on. Heck, even in regards to how they treat vampires, the differences are pretty striking. The Major refused vampirism because of how proud he is of his "humanity" and didn't like the idea of "sharing his life with another", as he puts it. Pip [[spoiler: willingly lets Seras, the woman he loves, drink his blood, letting her become a true vampire, and is able to retain his free will even when he is her familiar.]]

* GuileHero: The defenses that he sets up against Millennium succeed in stopping them dead (no pun intended) in their tracks.

* HeyYou: Like Alucard and Integra before him, Pip refuses to call Seras by name, even after she corrects him. Only does so while giving her a RousingSpeech about avenging London, and after [[spoiler: successfully stealing a kiss]].

* HunterOfHisOwnKind: In the most brutal way possible. He seems to hate most other vampires nowadays, [[EvenEvilHasStandards especially those who kill]] ForTheEvulz. Overall, in Alucard's personal opinion, only true vampires like Seras and himself deserve to exist.

** DarkIsNotEvil: He ''functions'' as this through his loyalty to the Hellsing Organization and his willingness to fight beings even more evil than him.

* NominalHero: Only works for the good guys because Integra has his leash.

* PetTheDog: His conversation with the Queen of England show him to be quite the gentleman. He speaks with her in a soft, kindly tone and openly compliments her.

* RetiredMonster: It's an active retirement, but when alive he was a mass-murdering [[TheCaligula caligula]] (Vlad the Impaler). He still enjoys killing and has no internal conflict about doing so whatsoever.

* VillainProtagonist: Not the villain of the story and overall [[AntiVillain set on the side of good]] but some of the things Alucard does are absolutely monstrous, such as callously (or worse, excitedly) killing his helpless enemies in horrific ways and is implied to sexually assault Rip van Winkle as he drinks her blood.

* AnimalMotifs: Bats, of course, but also and especially dogs. Baskerville Hound aside, he refers even to ''himself'' as a dog - of which he's completely unashamed - and people tell him he's "domesticated" and "housebroken". He has dog-like teeth. He has a master to whom he's [[UndyingLoyalty totally loyal]]. He attacks on command. He likes to [[BloodKnight play]]. He licks things. He even grabs and catches things in his mouth and attacks by biting as often as shooting.
* AntiHero: A psychotic BloodKnight who lives to fight and kill, Alucard is at least pro-humanity and will fight off the greater threat of Millennium.

** But he's fully aware that he is a monster, reflecting on how he was a warmonger in his mortal life and carries deep regret over his decision tu become a vampire to spite God. Arthur Hellsing (Integra's father) correctly sums him up in the quote seen in the front page and Alucard's deepest desire is to be killed at the hands of a worthy human.

* EyesDoNotBelongThere: Eyes do ''not'' go in the chest! Or in shadowy tentacles! Or...any way Alucard uses them, really.

** His true form is also an example -- since all of the souls he's fed upon are now independent of his body, he's just as vulnerable to a stake through the heart as any other vampire.
