* Some writers seem to think that the biggest appeal of Spider-Man is that things constantly go wrong for him. As a result, we get countless stories of Peter suffering humiliation, lack of money, sickly aunt, girl trouble and just all around unpleasantness, to the point that reading the stories can actually get a little depressing. Note that after John Romita Sr started working on the title with Creator/StanLee, the book became much LighterAndSofter than it had been recently, a move which led most fans to label it as the golden age of Spider-Man.

* Scott Summers aka ComicBook/Cyclops has gone though more shit and mockery and ligtmate hatred than any of the long standing X-Men despite being TheLeader of the team for longest time. Scott's popularity takes a meteoric plunge in the Marvel universe when he kills Professor X while under the influence of the Phoenix Force, it's also worth noting Scott's was still in control of his actions and Phoinex Force hadn't completely taken him over, so it's a mix of helplessness and actual malice on Scott's part.

** Deadpool himself is one too. Everyone hates him, He has awful luck with women and is subjected to all sorts of Slapstick.Oh and also , ya know being living Stage 4 and all
* The life of Remy Lebeau alias ComicBook/Gambit (X-Men) starts by not being Remy LeBeau - he was kidnapped as a baby because of a prophecy and will never know his real parents. He was brought up as a thief, never having a chance to a normal life and we don't know about normal education. He was regularly targeted by the Assassins Guild and other bad people because he was designated a successor to his "adoptive" father, the head of the Thieves Guild. Then he had to marry his best childhood friend out of political reasons, only to be ordered to a duel by her evil brother which he couldn't refuse without banishment. He took the duel, killed the brother and... was banished. Later it is revealed that his wife even planned all that and was very happy about it, no matter making his life hell for years and trying to kill him. His powers are burning him out, so he gets a power limiter, only the price for that is leading people somewhere where these people kill a whole folk - the Morlocks- without knowing. He saves one kid who will become a mass murderer later. When he tries to steal paintings, he meets Storm who is made into a kid and stumbles into danger. Later he joins the X-Men but is never really a part of it, always an outsider among the outsiders. He falls in love with the only women never able to touch (Rogue) who plays on- and- off with him, dumping him regularly for other people (Joseph, Fantomex, etc.) leaving him to die in Antarctica. Now he is a character that hardly appears at all, only to have his love life telepathically broadcasted by Rogue, who he can now touch but who dumped him yet again. On top of all of that, he has spent the majority of hero-life wearing a pink breast plate, what made him ambivalent among X-Men fans.

* Hellion of the Comicbook/AcademyX. His parents disinherit him for an incident which he didn't even start (and generally had a low opinion of him even before he manifested his powers). He loses his girlfriend shortly after M-Day (his own fault), and many of his friends are killed during Stryker's attacks, including one of his best friends and teammate. He does the right thing when Emma Frost tries to rig a contest to take out Comicbook/X 23, and just gets punished for his trouble. He's been gutted by Deathstrike, the Leper Queen turned him into a walking bomb with the Legacy Virus, Nimrods destroyed his hands (which have somehow never been healed despite the presence of powerful mutant healers like Elixir and Triage) while helping defend San Francisco from Bastion. He's punished for doing the only thing he could to stop Karima — at her own request no less — and treated like a monster by every senior X-Man despite them all having done far, far worse. Then his second girlfriend rebuffs him when he reaches out to her for help coping with what he's going through, and she coldly lies to his face about not caring about him anymore to break it off. Then he gets dumped into Spidey's remedial class because he's viewed as untrustworthy and likely to undergo a FaceHeelTurn. Most recently, he's revealed as one of the mutants who has somehow been overlooked by Storm and her team sheltering in Limbo, infected with the M-Pox, and nearly gets himself killed when he decides to single-handedly attack Attilan reasoning he's dying anyway (fortunately Synapse manages to shut down his powers and saves his life). Pretty much any time he turns up, you can pretty much expect something bad to happen to him.
** For that matter, the New X-Men. Almost their entire generation was wiped out during the Decimation. Forty of their depowered number were murdered in a bus bomb set by the Purifiers, while others were killed when Stryker attacked the Xavier school in the chaos afterwards. Despite their frequently Hangingd combat experience, they're still often treated as raw newbies by the experienced X-Men. If they're even remembered at all. These days they rarely even appear as wallpaper despite their immense popularity, and when they are brought out of the background, it's usually to kill one of them off for shock value (usually Elixir, who, thanks to his powers, has suffered this several times!).
---> Surge: There's nothing you can teach us, "Prof".... We already know how to die.
