* HotBlooded: Jiron has this in ''freaking spades''. [[JustBugsMe/SuperRobotWars Some]] [[WMG/SuperRobotWars speculators]] believe the universe will implode if Jiron gets anywhere near ''TengenToppaGurrenLagann''. If he's this BadAss just running on ''gasoline'', imagine what he'd do with Spiral Power.

In the hands of anybody else, this would be a particularly gritty tale of desert justice and class warfare, but with YoshiyukiTomino at the helm during his post-[[SpaceRunawayIdeon Ideon]] emotional peak, the 50-episode series turns into an over-the-top HumongousMecha romp dripping with too much humor for a lesser (or darker) mecha anime to properly handle. Heck, even it can't handle the comedy lightly, often [[NoFourthWall breaking the Fourth Wall]] alongside the Three-Day Rule to poke fun at the cliches of its SuperRobot predecessors. Compare ''OvermanKingGainer''.

* TransformingMecha: Sure, the combining Walker Machines have to shift a few parts around when assuming robot form, but when your BATTLESHIP does this, things start getting CrazyAwesome. See also ''{{Macross}}'' and its brethren.

** Manga/GetterRobo -> Getter G is about the only other clear prior example in mecha anime as a whole. GreatMazinger doesn't count because it AND its pilot are cases of SoLastSeason.

* BreakingTheFourthWall: The show never goes so far as NoFourthWall on a ''regular'' basis - it'd be impossible to get a serious story going that way. For the movie, dialogue was rewritten specifically to throw lampshades around.

(The reason being, a lot of the mecha designs were handled by SpaceRunawayIdeon alumni.) * [[ClarkesThirdLaw Clarke's Third Law]]: ClarkesThirdLaw: While the Civilians aren't primitive barbarians by any means, the Innocent do things that are way above their pragmatic worldview - and more important, look ''fantastic''.

** Walker Gallier plays this straight... but the pilot of the Gally Wheel (waist and below) can see the action, and switches from pilot to gunner.

** Hahaha! Because it's an ''[[MediumAwareness anime]]''!There are some minor changes throughout. Cotoset, and not Hoora, piloting the Xabungle in its first appearance sticks out, and Timp being directly responsible for Kyaring's death (which happened before the Sandrats met/joined the Iron Gear) are some of the bigger ones. Mostly dialogue changes otherwise.

* LimitedWardrobe: Almost all the main characters. Somewhat justified for Jiron and the Sand Rats, as they seem to have boarded the Iron Gear with only the clothes on their backs, and given the show's setting this is understandably the norm.

** [[spoiler: Xabungle Graffiti throws a wrench into this, by suggesting that she might stick with Arthur.]] * LimitedWardrobe: Almost all the main characters. Somewhat Unusually for the genre, it's actually justified for - Jiron and the Sand Rats, as they Sandrats seem to have boarded the Iron Gear with only the clothes on their backs, and given the show's setting this is understandably appears to be pretty normal in the norm.setting.

** As is the Walker Gallier, apparently - see Homage. * LoveTriangle: Rag and Elchi both have a thing for Jiron. Jiron himself doesn't show a preference until about halfway though the show, when [[spoiler: Elchi gets brainwashed. THEN he starts trying to talk her out of it with love, eventually getting through to her for long enough to run a reversal procedure. When she loses her sight, he decides to live with her.]]

* MadeOfIron: All the Civilians, like you wouldn't believe. Explicitly created that way by the Innocent, so they could survive in the harsh Zora landscape.

* MadeOfIron: All the Civilians, like you wouldn't believe. Explicitly created that way by the Innocent, so they could survive in the harsh Zora landscape.landscape, which apparently includes extreme climates and ''radiation''.

* MadeOfIron: All ** Some of the Civilians, like you wouldn't believe. Explicitly created that way by other names seem to be [[PunnyName puns]] of some kind or another. Bulme, for example, might come from "Bullseye" and using the Innocent, so they could survive in the harsh Zora landscape.Japanese for "eye" (= "me").

* NoWaterProofingInTheFuture: Played straight, as Zora is mostly desert and everyone uses ''Walker'' Machines (which are barely more waterproofed than a modern car).
