The "Lighter and Softer" part. To me, if anything, Season 3 actually feels much darker than Season 1 and 2.
I might just be incredibly biased because of Cisco, but while Savitar looks like a WOW raid boss, Season 3 just somehow feels much more hopeless than the others - Fewer short funny moments in between, for example. Unless I just don't recognize them because it's not Cisco with his humor and excitability from S1/2 who provides them.
