Going back and rewatching the scene at half speed, I'm not sure the fall is as unambiguous in the film as the examples here suggest. We see Irene move between Clare and John and put her hand out and grab at Clare's waist, but we never see a push. Right before this, Clare positions herself in front of the open window, and at the moment of the fall, we see John's momentum carry him forward into the open window.
