Oh and if listing characters from Drowtales who aren\\\'t broken... I would nominate Chiri\\\'nide and Shan\\\'naal, they had their rough moments, but those rough moments were exceedingly minute when compared to all the other characters. (though if you go into the side story archive, Chiri\\\'nide did watch her mother and father get murdered, and in return she avenged their deaths herself by killing their murderer and being given the murderer\\\'s name and title, so I guess it could be argued that she is a pre-broken cutie as well).

I have to ask why both Ariel Val\'Sarghress and Faen\'Arae Val\'Sullisin\'rune from the Drowtales webcomic are not included in the Break the Cutie Webcomics page. Heck, even Chrys\'tel Vel\'Sharen from that webcomic might count.

EDIT: scratch that, I failed to notice Faen and Ariel are already mentioned (search button failure). At any rate, Chrys\\\'tel is still worth adding by virtue of the fact that she still suffered a worldview shattering encounter with her Aunt that involved multiple of her body parts getting frozen and thawed out in rapid succession and spending time in a torture chamber designed specifically for people who like her, had a demonic taint (though fortunately for her none of the torture devices were used on her). As well as slowly alienating all of her friends, her sister, and possibly even her mother.

Faen\'arae in particular is the most blatant example from that webcomic. She is that webcomic\'s most obvious example of a Moe character, but she is also a highly sensitive Empath. As such she is capable of sensing the emotions, and pain of other people. This is made even worse because she is able to sense the demonic nature of people who have been seeded with a Nether Seed, and given the high concentration of such Nether Seeds at the school where she spent a good portion of the first 20 years of her life, it is no wonder she freaked out one day ran away from the school and headed towards the surface world (her people live below the surface in the Underworld), and ended up living as a slave for some humans (she is a Drow), and having to suffer the pain and agony of other Elves getting their throats slit and slowly bleeding to death, all while she was left alone to feel this pain.
Ariel is a less obvious case, but she was raised by her adoptive foster sister (yes I know how that may sound redundant but it\'s really not in the context) from the time she was a baby, this foster sister had no idea how to raise a child properly, and thus abused Ariel consistently. She went so far as to maul Ariel\'s sick pet cat to death who had been locked in a room with Ariel with no food, and no way to relieve itself save the floor of the room right in front of Ariel. Ariel was then relinquished to her older adoptive brother\'s care who raised her from the age of 10 to the age of 15. During the time she was being raised by her brother, she became Faen\'arae\'s best friend and Faen\'arae became Ariel\'s only friend (at that time) and Ariel was forced to commit murder in cold blood. Though granted the boy she killed had tried to kill her first, though unsuccessfully. Ariel then had to lead an expedition to the surface in order to rescue her best friend, where she was promptly the victim of an attempted rape by someone who wasn\'t even the same species as her. All this happening before she turned 20 years old.
Chrys\'tel\'s reason for being included is not nearly as dramatic as either Ariel\'s or Faen\'s... but it amounts to all of her beliefs about the world being shaken to the core, inverted, crushed, swallowed and chewed up by a dragon, and then spit back out in a new composition that resembles nothing like what she originally believed. All while having to suffer getting her limbs frozen at the cellular level and losing all of her friends and even her twin sister one by one.
