I think it is because he is so divisive and people love to edit war over the dirty commies/right wing capitalist nutters[[hottip:*:delete as per applicable political views]]. My suggestion would be to sandbox something utterly neutral, without leaning one way or t\'other) and ask the mods if it can be put on the page and then a lock applied. I\'m not sure they\'ll agree, but if you do the legwork upfront they are more likely to look favourably on it.
