I actually think the old names are the awful ones. \\\"Denim\\\" should sum my feelings on the matter nicely. I can\\\'t take a pair of jeans seriously as a main character.
As for the rest, \\\"Xenobia\\\" is pronounced the same as Zenobia, same with \\\"Xytegenia\\\" and Zytegenia, and Catiua and Kachua. The new spellings just read better. Warren\\\'s surname didn\\\'t need changing, but I don\\\'t think the translator would do so lightly.
As for the names being the same across multiple games, this is the Let Us Cling Together page. The main Ogre Battle page will not be changed to reflect the new names.
