If you rewatch the scene, you will see what was distracting Emerald and Mercury: it was Weiss and Hazel. They were therefore looking in a completely different direction to the location Yang was standing in. They had turn to Yang before they could react to her. They turned in response to Ruby's shout; by then, Yang was already level with Emerald and bearing down on Mercury.
