This was a short children's story my music teacher told the class back in the early-mid 2000s (No idea how old the story is, though). I could never remember the title, but I remember the story well enough.
It was about a man who I believe was the leader, if not the outright king, of a land filled with color and music, where everyone was happy. But somehow the leader ends up in another land that is completely grey with signs that outright way "No music," "No Color," that sort of thing.
Then he gets into trouble with the ruler of this town after tapping his foot and humming a song and ends up in a cage with a woman who the grey leader wanted to marry. They somehow escape and meet the lady who runs the kitchen who is very confused and somehow turned dinner into breakfast (Yes, this is a plot point).
I forget most of what happens in the middle, but I know there is a group of characters named "Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, and Do." You know, the musical scale thing? Well, Mi gets imprisoned and his voice stolen and placed into a secret room where musical objects are stored.
So the colorful leader says to the man guarding Mi (The guard is also mute), "You give Mi's voice back right now! And if you do, I'll get you yours." The guard leads the colorful leader to the music room, and the story ends with the grey leader accidentally marrying the kitchen lady who was disguised as the other lady, while the colorful leader, the musical scale characters, and the other lady escape back to the musical kingdom.
