Yep, that's the one. Thanks for that, I don't think I ever would have found that myself.
When I was younger, I remember watching a show that was somewhat similar to survivor, but with some rules differences. It involved two team being dropped onto an island, and having to survive the conditions using what materials they were allowed and their wits.
Significant details that might help to narrow it down include;
-Instead of a final winner being chosen by a collection of contestants who had been voted out, whoever found the treasure on the island was the winner. The final two ended up in a race as they deciphered the map clues which led them through a treasure hunt until one of them (I believe it was a guy) beat the runner up (I remember her being female) by a margin of something like a few minutes. I have a mental image of him throwing dubloons in her direction saying she could have a few for being a worthy opponent.
-The rules stated that no modern conveniences or luxuries were allowed, with a few exceptions. Nobody was searched prior to arriving, but if found to be in possession of contraband and the other team found out, they were entitled to come to the offending player's camp and steal any item they chose. I remember one time this happened that the team stole a tarp to improve their camp, even though they could have stolen a map piece which led to the final prize.
-There was one challenge which provided a reward that included tools and some wooden planks. The team decided to turn this into a toilet seat for their female members, but then it turned out that in a later challenge they needed a ladder to climb a ridge or a tree, and the wooden planks were intended to survive this purpose. I remember this causing some consternation among the tribe members.
I really enjoyed this show and would love to go back and rewatch it as I found it superior to Survivor, but I can't remember what it was called. If anyone can help me with this, I'd really appreciate it.
